Why haven't I heard of this extraordinary pianist?. Russia has certainty created probably the best and most numerous pianists who interpreted Bach to the level of Heaven. As soneone once said:. Mozart is listened to by the angels. But God listens to Bach
She was very closely associated with Shostakovich, and premiered his 24 Preludes and Fugues, which were dedicated to her. He was inspired to write them after hearing her play the Bach 48 in a piano competition in (?) Prague.

Thank you so much for posting. I had the great pleasure of meeting this extraordinary woman as well as attending her recital and master classes in France back in 1986.
@paulparoma you must be so great at piano and so accomplished to have such an astounding and detailed criticism of gould! oh nvm you're just a pip squeak on TH-cam 😂
Обожаю! Впервые слышу в исполнении Николаевой, и как же оно отличается от [любимого мной] исполнения Марты Аргерих! У музыки Баха есть свойство прекрасно уживаться с разными исполнениями.
Tatyana Nikolayeva is my favorite Bach interpreter. I used to have LP with these recordings and have been looking for them on youtube a long time. Thank you for uploading. If you have anything else played by Nikolayeva, Bach or anything else, please upload. She is one of the best ever, but due to lack of exposure in West very underappreciated.
i heard one of her recordings a few weeks ago and i was instantly hooked. dont know if something is wrong with me but her performance is just so much more impactful or meaningful? intentional. i cant put my finger on it, but it grabs my attention.
She plays Bach as though his music was from the Romantic period, her constant pedaling mushes the counterpoint so that you can’t even discern the voices….when this happens, _it is not Bach’s voice!!_ The polyphony is supposed to be clear as crystal, each voice a melody, a nearly impossible feat on the giant resonance of a grand piano….it gets entirely lost, so how is this a great “interpretation”??? The reason some silly people don’t like Glenn Gould’s playing is because he understands all of this and somehow gets around the resonance with technique….you can hear every complexity, _everything,_ and if people had studied Bach on the organ or harpsichord they would get it!
@@voraciousreader3341 I love them both, for Gould's surgical clarity and Nikolayeva's romantic phrasing. After all, Bach would not have known the modern piano with pedals, only proving the greatness of Bach to survive many interpretations on many different instruments. It's all good.
@@voraciousreader3341 I'm curious as to the difference between Tatyana's rendition and what you think is the correct approach. Would like to compare both. In the hope of finding Bach in the answer to the question "which is more and which is less like Bach". I always thought her renditions remind me more of the organ than what Gould did. But I'm a layman, so I'm never certain and always eager to learn. Perhaps you are someone who could add something of value. If only you had a different approach.

При всем моём уважении к ней, Баха исполняет, как нечто среднее между Шопеном и Бетховеном, с налётом Моцарта. И очень много правой педали. После Гульда слушать ее Баха тяжко.
Ugh….she uses the _sustain pedal!!!_ Bach isn’t Chopin, the resonance of a grand piano is enough to mush the counterpoint into oatmeal! Why are great pianists driven to play Bach’s gorgeous architecture as though he wrote it in the Romantic period???

Не только его, но и Шопена! Ее интерпретации Шопена прекрасны, изящны и чувственны!

No. There are some. Bunin for example. Others as well. But Tatyana is great nevertheless 💋
