This has given me faith again about humanity at the disheartening eve of The Golden Age 2025.
My favorite performance of this Sarabande. Interestingly, she adds no ornaments in the first part, just lets the music speak for itself. Her tempos are well-chosen, and she takes time to breathe at appropriate points. She does not impose herself on the music, we hear all the details; she captures the true Bachian spirit in this great music. Hers is the most humble of performances.

J'aime enormement cette artiste. Tout l'amour, la tendresse, le feu interieur qu'elle met dans son interpretation, c'est magique. Je crois qu'elle me rappelle ma professeure de piano qui m'a appris cette approche de la musique. ❤️
La limpidité de son jeu , l'élégance de son phrasé font de Nocolayeva une très grande artiste .Bach bien sur ,mais aussi Mozart , et les russes bien entendu. Elle égalait les grands pianistes de son époque mais n'eut pas une notoriété pourtant largement méritée...
Just to mention one felicity: her seemingly infallible choice of very effective tempi in these dances (as in her concertos with Sondeckis) draws me right into the heart of the music. That takes musical intuition, of course, but also deep understanding of Bach on her part. Many thanks for posting this.
Yes.The Sarabande is the slowest I have ever heard on recordings. It changes the piece into something quite wonderful. This also confirms Schiff's advice to piano students to experiment with the suites and discover the depths of Bach.
Ce qui m'emeut et m'impressionne, c'est qu'elle imite le clavecin. (C'est rare, voire unique). Elle sert la grandeur de la musique dans ce qu'elle a de plus grand, la purete, l'inventivite. Elle est par consequent une tres tres grande interprete. La gigue, si puissante, en est la preuve. Rien ne lui echappe, caractere, ornements, controle du son et leviers harmoniques. (Un exemple a suivre!!!!) En bref, une beaute fantastique, une ouverture sur le vaste univers physique et immateriel!
Her Bach sings and sings and sings. Such wonderful resonance without muddying the counterpoint, truly magisterial.
