Rohana Wijeweera was a Sri Lankan Marxist-Leninist revolutionary and the founder of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP, People's Liberation Front). #Rohana Wijeweera Born into a poor, rural communist family in southern Sri Lanka, Rohana Wijeweera rose to become a charismatic and powerful political figure.
Rohana Wijeweera studied in the Soviet Union at Lumumba University but was expelled for his revolutionary activities and criticism of the Soviet system. Upon returning to Sri Lanka, he formed the JVP on May 14, 1965, after breaking away from the Communist Party of Sri Lanka. Rohana Wijeweera assassinated on 13 November 1989 in Colombo.
