I stopped learning how to draw for almost 2 years 😢 And I stopped watching your videos But I decided to get back on track wish me luck 😊 Thank you 🙏🏻 professor 👨🏫
It’s true. I had to slow down a bit to ensure shadows and lights are placed in the proper locations. The quality improved immensely when I did. Marc’s videos have taught me a lot in a short time.
I agree with the seeing simple shapes it blew my mind when I figured it out. I learned it from a really nice art teacher from a community college and it was one of the greatest techniques I ever learned. I stopped focusing on those tiny details and focused on form and mass instead it seriously helped me learn anatomy.
marc, a genuine big fat thank you for your ever so dedication to the helping of artists, IT MEANS. SO. MUCH. i speak not only as an individual but for every single person you've inspired. i hope you never stop posting, which ofc is impossible, but rn, im comfy and happy knowing i have an art teacher like you to back me up fr
currently stuck on a drawing because the shading is kicking my ass. I'm gonna keep these in mind and start over from scratch because I'm honestly not happy with how its coming along
Simplify light and shadows into shapes Selectively look at references 1) values - use Full range of it , Use black and white for the extremeties and Mostly the middle part 2) Shadows Cast shadow - when an object is blicking light from reaching another object . They have the shape of the object nlicking the light Umbrella light - when something big is blcoking light , anything beliw will be in shadow Simplify the shapes Proximity shadows/Ambient occlusion - no specific shape . When Two close objects are close nough together, will block light from each other . Closer the ibjects , daeker the shadow .
This is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve watched all your other shaking videos are really good. I have yet to figure out how to get it to look like you’re shaving style.
This is really becoming one of my favorite channels, period. I recently got back into art after taking a break for a few months (I was never really that good to begin with) and I've been following your videos and art school programmes since I started after a friend recommended it. I'm not good by any means, but I'll get there, it takes time after all. Love your videos! They're entertaining and educational :3
Présentement au travail donc je ne peux pas regarder, mais c'est clair que j'ai cliqué sur la notification direct et que j'ai mis un thumbs up - c'est toujours de la qualité et toujours super utile. Merci!!!
How is it you ALWAYS CATCH ME when I have had the EXACT revelation of what you are teaching? I rediscovered this technique last week and BAM! Here you are. And as always, filling in a few blanks and adding more things I wasn't aware of. Thank you AGAIN MARC!!!!
Remind me a lot of the AO maps and the depth buffer in video games, also marc, I learned shading and volumes in the same way, I am natively a 3D artist
Awesome vid mark, however on the note of using every value…I’ve heard tips to choose your value range as it changes according to the local color of what we’re painting
I always recommend splitting the process in different steps- shading first this way as to only focus on volumes, then colors where you can darken and brighten your original values now that they are correct relative to the rest. Kinda hard to explain quickly but this might do it th-cam.com/video/3OQeRLwipi4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nlebBv-E4phjeXkq :)
My biggest trouble with shading right now comes from shading pieces or subjects with ambient lighting setups, the type you see on an overcast day where there is no direct light source and the light seems to come from everywhere, so the tonal changes are extremely subtle
Thanks a lot for the video Marc! Though I've seen classes and different videos on the topic (several from you as well), these are always good reminders and have a few new tidbits to practice on. I do have a question if you come to read this.. how long does it usually take you to do a piece like this one? or some of the other videos? It's hard to appreciate the effort and time that goes into it when it's a quick timelapse of 10 minutes.
@@YTartschool Thank you so much for the quick reply! I love your work, and hope to someday get near to such a level (starting by doing the full art program of course!). Though I realize speed varies with bandwith, skill, practice and experience, it's still a good point of reference!
Hi Mark! I love your lessons very mush but can you please answer my question? How the sharp edge of your brush always points the exactly right direction? I have your advanced brushes and strugle with the angle so much because they always point upwards. I have the 2024 version of photoshop
Another beautiful lesson & illustration! Does anyone know how to check values on the iPad version of Photoshop? I’m a peasant without access to a proper mac / desktop :(
Uh I am confused, is he using an Alphalock layer, when he shades? I just recently started using them and almost everytime I forget them. Gonna apply those practises and simplifications cuz Shading took me most of the time more than a Week when the rest of the piece is taking me like 2-3 days.
Sorry for my ignorance but I need some advice. I would like to work as a character artist/concept artist or in any case in that field for animated films or videogames. But is it necessary for me to know how to use 3D? Thanks in advance
Ah yes shading, the part I run away from my responsibilities and pretend I'm taking a break instead being scared lol
you still running?

I honestly think the quality of marcs videos two to three years ago were better.

50 minutes late for class, but never too late for getting better

Shading and brush work is one of my main problems. Thanks for the new class !!

Yippieee shading video! Thanks marcc
Came back to see the intro couple of years ago. Still stuck here and i love it :)
Please do how to color form grayscale to color. I dont know how to separate base colors by layers, particularly small details
Banger alert, gonna enjoy this one!!

This is very useful art videos I learned a lot but I might buy the art class so I can improve my art skills.
A week late to class, and I suddenly miss the video that I needed to see the most to progress my drawing skills smh.
Please say " Oh! Hi.",I love it!!!
Hello Marc, just had a quick question, any tips for drawing/painting in heavy shading styles while still maintaining clean linework?

Thanks for your video like always !
woah prime Mark is returning
I think you forgot to shade the shadows accurately, basically make it softer if the shadow is away from starting point.
You got even better nice
thanks for the help as always master
Love this video. Awesome detail.
sos un demente jajaj, detalla los detalles ♥
Hey Marc can u pls make video on how to make splash art like riot games or leagues of legend
Pls pls pls pls pls 😢😢❤❤❤❤❤
I've never been happier to pay anything than I am paying the class fee.
Hey Mark, please make videos on metal and other material shading. i hate going elsewhere.
🤐
I wonder if Mark will ever post 3D modeling tutorials on his yt since he was a pro 3D artist
Marc, did you do a video demo for your brush pack? how, when and why. So many brush packs out there and confusing. Thanks
it took only 15 sec for Marc to describe my attemp at 3d shading, i feels attacked
7:37 nice hair highlight trick :3 :3 :3
One question once you’re line work is complete should her flat layer be filled with a mid tone gray? Then, on the next layer start to shading?
Yo what happened to your video on how to shade different materials? It was a really good one

I've only ever used traditional media, can digital shading methods be applied in the same or similar ways?

can i ask how do you keep 2 part overlap each other look separate with shading

When i try to get the brushes for clip studio it tells me "File format not supported" i don't know what to do :,(
What tablet he use?? And program? I use IbisP
Early for Marc Brunet class?! REAL?!
Can anyone help me with getting the free brushes for CSP? I tried downloading the .abr file, but it only imported one brush.

Anyone know if the advanced brushes work in Procreate?

Honestly my main problem with shading is my brushes. Ive been practicing shading but the brushes always make it look off. Any help is appreciated.
A good smudge brush will always make things 10000% easier (the only one I use is part of the free brush pack I always mention!)
@@YTartschool i work on Ibispaint so i dont know what the equivalent to ur brush is on it 🥲

Is the subscription yearly or life time?
lifetime :) students also get all future updates and additions for free- thx for even considering it!
@@YTartschool thanks for dedicating some of your time to reply 🙏
how much time would you say you spend on shading for the overall piece? Is it most of the time spent? A small portion?
about 70% of most paintings
Which android tablet can I use ? Galaxy tab ?
So what is this on, clip studio paint?
how do you color your shadows?
What brush is used for shading like this?
