I wanted to say, that you're very good at teaching. Your videos are not too long and manage to convey crucial informations. Last time I've watched one of your videos and already learned two things I had no idea about. I was mindblown at the moment.
your study of WLOP at the end iss very good, even that you tried to keep the colors muted it still looks rather stylized, which isnt bad, just comes to show how our sense of values and saturation differ from artist to artist
WLOP is one of my favorite artists, and you are my favorite art instructor, so you have no idea how excited I am to see this video. The specific thing that I love about his art is the story telling in it. It is rarely just "pretty girl is pretty" but usually there is a narrative in it - particularly if you know his writing and recognize the characters from there. The high rez stuff serves as sort of an epilogue for them. Would love to see a study on some old school fantasy artists, but not sure how much there is about them. Folks like Elmore, Easley, or Franzetta. They don't really do digital work though. A personal favorite of mine who does digital but no one really knows is Christopher Hastings.
Thank you so much! I love WLOP and when I studied his art in detail as you did, it was a surprise to see how the details were painted. I'm very obsessive with that part in my paintings and the detailing take me so long that at the end, I feel tired and bored and don't finish, which is really sad. So it was a real master class and eye opener for me to see WLOP's process, and how is not necessary to paint every single thing, but better dominate lighting, color and composition. And yes! I would love to watch a series about this with other artists. The ones that made me love digital painting were Linda Bergkvist and Melanie Delon. Linda is no longer active in the art world (as far as I know), but she inspired so many people to enter into this, that it would be nice to see a disection of her artwork too. So as Melanie's, of course :D
Amazing analysis vid Marc! WLOP has such great control over focal points, I'm always amazed by his ability to convey clear ideas through rather rough and messy brushstrokes. It's something I try to achieve when sketching and working on concepts. Thanks for the breakdowns!
I love really it plays into a concept I've found from another artist who does creature designs. The face generally is always the focal point, all the work there, the rest is rougher, and when done the brain automatically fills in the rest and boom! Done. I love how his linework is almost non existent as it's all just suggestion and the rest is painted.
Great video! I would have loved if there was a demonstration on how WLOP's does metalic elements by playing with contrasts, lighting and shadowing, which is to me the most appealing aspect of his art, his signature.
i love this kind of content, Dude. Learning artist's stuffs and share to us, especially for newcomers like me is very helpful. I felt like I was being guided on how to study it. So I know what points to pay attention to. Thank you...
I've studied him for so long and i learned new stuff this vid. Thanks so much man. As for the next study: im begging for a samdoesart vid. Either him or Kan Liu. Both draw water magnificently and yet so simply.
Heaps of people have already said it, but please do Guweiz! He's my favourite artist, and I've tried to study his work in the past but never been able to replicate the style. Also love WLOP, and I think you did a great job breaking it down and replicating a similar style.
Have you ever thought about studying and doing a video about the work of comic book artists who work digitally like Pepe Larraz, Dan Mora, or Jorge Jimenez? I don't know if its your style or if comics interest you, but but i think it would be super cool. They're all absolutely amazing artists and they have very appealing styles.
Wlops art is amazing! I remember asking about how he studied & when he showed his early work to and the leap to what we see now I thought wow! there is hope for me yet lol! Loved this video you should do Stanley Lau (Artgerm) at some point.
Kwanchai Moriya is a fantastic artist very well known for his work in the board game industry. Very interesting color use and he has pieces in apparently very different styles due to the requirements of his work. Thanks for all these years of content Marc!
I been following Marc and WLOP equally the same time, plus Sakimichan who have very VERY high levels of skill in their paintings, but WLOP is on a completely. completely different stratosphere.
Id love for you to cover Jiyu Kaze's work. He often goes unnoticed because he deletes his work from time to time. But his rendering is beyond anything ive witnessed from anyone. His Elsa painting from like 8 years ago which can be still found online is stunning. He posted his process too for the piece and its ridiculous.
First of all, VERY AWESOME. I like the style very much but didn't think of it that way, now I can visualize more practical ways to aply their tricks for painting. Thanks a lot!
Thanks Marc, I understand his style a little bit now. Although, i mainly draw anime illustrations, it's still a good lesson for me just to add on some knowledge from the greats.
Please do a GUWEIZ study too if you have not done yet.. I can't tell you how much useful what it is you are doing breaking down successful artists' works from an eye of an experienced and seasoned artist translating it for us noobs :). I really really love Demizu Posuka's art style. They are the Promised Neverland's manga artist, and thought not exactly mainstream especially in the western sphere, I find their compositions and control over dynamic angles and poses very very cool. Would love it if you did a study on them next time.
I think his art style is really common among Chinese artists. They tend to start with a BW drawing , really rough and fuzzy. Then they add a little bit of color and from there on they render the most important parts, while having faces and skin usually be super soft. A truly interesting and cool style.
I hope you do more video like this. Huang guang jian next please, his art is so awesome and I think he is a little underrated artist Also serafleur, her artsyle is very beautiful
I am happy beyond words that you tried your hand and a deep-dive in WLOP's creative process. Your respect for his work is well-communicated with the cinematic subwoofer thunder, describing each one of his art's support-beams... 😁 There are two artists I would like you to consider big-braining, Marc-Sensei: Shal. E, whose work is similar but different than WLOP's and AKIHITO YOSHITOMI, whose work basically feels like you found a 1980s manga, tucked-away in an antique shop, looked around so no one sees you in the act and took a whiff off the OG inked paper that probably has some lead in it.
This video is really usefull to people like me, have problems with the light and contrast, i will take the course when i have money to pay it 🥰 I really wanted a video showing how meola do her illustrations and the effects, please 💞💞
Yup, I’ve been here since your speed painting uploads when you were cubebrush, I remember clearly I wanted to learn from you how to make something look like it’s glowing. I believe this was around 2015
His art style is insane looking up close it is really not that detailed with random strokes but once you look at a distance you can see the whole picture
Would you be willing to do a video on tatsuki fujimoto's art? I'm not sure if manga artists are something this video series is meant for but his art is absolutely gorgeous and difficult to break down. I would absolutely love a tutorial on his art.
Patiently waiting for Hungryclicker style/workflow analysis.....😃 Great video as always, Marc! Thank you, I always go back to your videos every time I tackle difficulty on my art journey, you save so many lives with your art tutorial
Yep. I love WLOP's art style so much. His characters remind me of those Korean RPG games like Blade and Soul. 😍 And while I enjoy seeing different art styles, when it comes to my own, I always go for 2D anime art style. So a Rinotuna study would be a veeery helpful video too. 😍

You should definitely try out making a study of Bo Chen next!!!
Thank you Marc, very informative to have a seasoned professional analyze his style!
I really really love Demizu Posuka's art style. They are the Promised Neverland's manga artist, and thought not exactly mainstream especially in the western sphere, I find their compositions and control over dynamic angles and poses very very cool. Would love it if you did a study on them next time.
Tysm, ngl I learned a ton with just a single vid. I hope Serafluer will also be mention on the next content.
I think his art style is really common among Chinese artists. They tend to start with a BW drawing , really rough and fuzzy. Then they add a little bit of color and from there on they render the most important parts, while having faces and skin usually be super soft. A truly interesting and cool style.
I hope you do more video like this.
Huang guang jian next please, his art is so awesome and I think he is a little underrated artist
Also serafleur, her artsyle is very beautiful
This video is really usefull to people like me, have problems with the light and contrast, i will take the course when i have money to pay it 🥰
I really wanted a video showing how meola do her illustrations and the effects, please 💞💞
Yup, I’ve been here since your speed painting uploads when you were cubebrush, I remember clearly I wanted to learn from you how to make something look like it’s glowing. I believe this was around 2015
That's awesome! Thanks for the support for nearly a decade! 😳
Amazing video! I'll suggest LinesSensei as next! In his channel he explain in detail his work process
Marc can you do a series on environment art and buildings? 🥰🥰🥰
His art style is insane looking up close it is really not that detailed with random strokes but once you look at a distance you can see the whole picture
My tips for using C olor D odge:
Paint the "CD" layer black first and adjust the layer's fill on photoshop
Wlop was the first ever artist I knew of .... Cuz I was drawn to it since so many years
Would you be willing to do a video on tatsuki fujimoto's art? I'm not sure if manga artists are something this video series is meant for but his art is absolutely gorgeous and difficult to break down. I would absolutely love a tutorial on his art.
Stanley Lau aka Artgerm would be an awesome one for study time
His colors are fantastic.
I love muted colors.
(As I hardly wear colors myself).
Patiently waiting for Hungryclicker style/workflow analysis.....😃
Great video as always, Marc!
