    It's a good job it wasn't raining as it so often does here in the UK, that's why I think all chargers need to be either undercover with solar panels on the roofs of the shelters or underground parking.

    After taking delivery of my VW ID.3 in May 22 I also tried out public chargers to gain familiarity. This included Tesla (available for non Tesla the week I took delivery of my VW), Ionity, Podpoint and Shell recharge. A month later I jumped in the deep end with my first long drive to Zurich and then onto Pisa!

    ICE owners would never believe me but honestly a lot of the time my Model Y is charging too quick! By the time you've walked into the services, used the toilet, got a coffee and walked back to the car, its nagging me to get a move on! I genuinely enjoy the excuse to stop for a break.

    i rented the mg4 for 4 days,absolutly briliant car,the best i ever driven,and the best part is they put the charging port on the tesla side,so i could use the tesla chargers who were pretty much the only option i had,and i did drive it constantly those 4 days

    MG4 SE basic owner here (likewise from VW Tig): 13000miles / 13 months in - no issues major todate (mainly from home on EDF at 4.5p Kwh), but the older non-tesla's supercharging hubs open to all (not tried V4 todate) - seem to work fine. Luckily my LKA defaults to OFF - but agree that it is ridiculous - it loves to steer me into coming traffic - so haven't used it for a year

      They have improved the front camera software and LKA is vastly improved

    You have to support the weight of the cable as it's trying to connect - I have the same issues with my identical car. Once it connects you can step away but the heavier cables are too heavy for the connector in the car!

    Hold the CCS plug into the car charge port until the charge starts ... sometimes the issue is that the control pins (in the Type 2 part of the connector) don't make a proper connection, and holding the connector up helps to avoid that.
    And Gretna Green has 2x Gridserve, 4x Ionity and 16x (I think) Applegreen connections

    This is what I've found when using Tesla chargers with my MG4 Trophy and sometimes other brands of chargers. If you do you prepayment thing and plug in the car as normal, look on the screen in the car under that battery section and you'll see an option that says "start charging." The Tesla charger was waiting for this command to be sent but because the guy has not pressed the start charging in the car, it's just canceled the charge. It does not happen every time but that is what his issue was.

    As I've said before. I have had the same problem since 1st April at the Tesla chargers at Banbury. Tesla helpline says they no longer accept MG5EV due to it's software. MG EV blog says there is a free software update from MG. All the MG agents near me say there isn't. It's annoying because Banbury is well stocked for chargers asvyou have documented but Tesla is 30p per kwh cheaper.

    • @Joeb4iley
      @Joeb4iley ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You have to activate the charger on the app before plugging it into the car. You need to give the app a few seconds to switch the charger on remotely. If you plug in and try to activate it, it will already assume you want tap and pay and the stall should appear as in use on the app. It's a little confusing at first as it's backwards to pretty much every other charger.

      @@Joeb4iley thanks, I presume that is the Tesla app..

    • @Joeb4iley
      @Joeb4iley ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@solentbum yes, you need to add a form of payment in the app before using it but it's normally reliable. Most of my experience with it comes from Norway and Sweden when I've had hire cars for work, it makes payment and charging overseas really easy. Lots more open chargers overseas.

    I have had my MG4 Trophy for two weeks now ( no long journeys yet - longest journey so far 60 mile round trip), as slightly newer model than Richard’s it has the rear screen wiper ( and I guess slight updated software), good value car ( especially with 0% finance deal from MG), it has a lot of kit for the price, in a week off for a circa 250 mile round trip so will see how easy to charge on route!

      @AdrianNelson1507 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @gordonmcmillan4709 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AdrianNelson1507 Best guess would be that if the card number / holder had a subscription it would be charged at the cheaper rate, but that's only a guess. My Supercharging today was 38p / kWh

    • @EverydayLife621
      @EverydayLife621 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AdrianNelson1507 Nope: you'd pay the contactless rate, because the system has no way or knowing that you have a subscription - maybe one day non-tesla owners will work seamlessly just like proper tesla cars do in-that just just plug in, and it knows where the payment is directed to? - but I cant see tesla allowing this as they have nothing to gain.

      It wouldn’t be the infotainment version. Is the CCU that needs upgrading.
      I took mine in for the latest upgrades the other day and they upgraded pretty much every known module on the car and that is making a massive difference in performance terms, fixing many compatibility issues and software niggles etc. Some dealers (like mine) just simply know that it’s best for the car to be the most up to date overall. Unfortunately MG requires this do be done as a warranty repair so there must be some complaint linked to it. My dealer did a good job.

      I've got the Trophy and LKA on mine seems ok, I don't know if it's anything to do with the software version but it doesn't kick in on mine until about 38MPH and drops out around 32MPH so when you are navigating around slower traffic etc it's just disabled.
