A review of the Master Grade YMS-15 Gyan from the original 1979 anime series Mobile Suit Gundam.
    Intro - 00:00
    Build: 0:49
    Appearance: 3:40
    Articulation: 5:58
    Gimmicks: 8:50
    Final Verdict: 11:15
This Gyan was a pretty solid MG Gunpla! The light up beam saber was a really nice addition. Highly recommended if you're into the original Gundam anime, or Zeon suits.
Heads up, this is probably the last Gunpla review for a while. I did order the P-Bandai MG F90, so there is another kit on the way though.
Anyway - Production notes - time.
    - I was a little down when making this review. I enjoy making these and all, but really the whole point these videos was to improve my video production skills, and I feel I hit a wall with that about 6-7 videos back. Still, I made some minor improvements with this video.
    - I think I nailed the footage. I realized I had been lowering the contrast too much in recent reviews, causing the shadows to be cranked up to much, thus there'd be noticeable grain and a flicker. For this review, I decided to NOT mess with the contrast in the edit. I kept my camera on the lowest possible contrast setting, but didn't touch the footage in post outside of a bump to saturation. It looks so much better! I've noticed this tends to be how I improve. I go way too far in one direction, then realize it's too much, pull back a little to find a nice middle ground.
    - I went out of my way to nail the white balance here. For some reason, even though I have all of my lights set to 5,000K, and my camera set to 5,000K, things were just too warm. I specifically got a shot of a white sheet of paper, and used it for white balance in the edit. While there was only a minor difference compared to relying on the camera's 5,000K setting, it's still an improvement.
    - Speaking of lights, my Polaroid 350 finally gave it up. It was a piece of junk since day 1, so not really a surprise. It always had issues with battery power, and flickering, usually needing a good smack to get working, but now it finally stopped working completely. Thankfully, it was during the last 2-3 shots, so it didn't noticeably affect the footage, but still, I need to buy a new LED before I make any new videos. Also, I'd like to take the Polaroid to a ditch somewhere and go Office Space on it lol
    - This is one of the first time I used sped-up footage. It's the montage of him falling backwards. It wasn't that hard to record, so I think I'm gonna try to get more inserts like that in the future.
    - The audio isn't great here. While I did beef up the background music to a nice medium level, the commentary is pretty poor. For some reason, I had this really breathy, strained tone to my voice when recording this one. I really wanted to redo it, but just didn't want to take the time. The EQ helps a little, but it's still far from perfect. My mic (Rode video mic Pro) pics up A TON of mouth sounds. Everyone tells me to back away from the mic, use a pop filter, ect, and I am! It's just the mic is very directional, and made for on-location, camera mounted, documentary style stuff, not at a desk in a quiet room. I need a dedicated mic for podcasting. I'm thinking it will be my next purchase.
    - I really like the title card for this video. I decided to match the colors of the background and the suit, so everything would blend in better. Sure enough, there's a tool in Photoshop that lets you import an image, then apply it's white balance and color temperature to other layers. I tried it, and, while not a major difference, it really helps! I know many people don't care for the title cards, but I always learn new Photoshop skills when making them, so... deal with them lol. Next, I'd like to try focus stacking, to get everything in a deep focus! That might imply a larger scale.
    - Leaving this one for last, because it's a bit of a downer. While I do enjoy making these, again the whole point was to step up my video production skills, and I just haven’t seen any major progress in the last few months. Plus my videos are pretty dry. I decided to watch a few other reviews (for the 1st time since the Rrobbert184 days lol) to see what others were doing and it affirmed everything. They're just more interesting. So, I think it might be time to move on.
I'm unsure if this really is the last video but I'm making a point to not think about or plan on making another video. If a cool kit pops up then maybe I could make another video idk. I pre-ordered that MG F90, so maybe my opinion will change once that arrives.
    - Spoiler- I did 3 more lol
Regardless, thanks for watching over these 3-4 years! I’ve really enjoyed it! Best of luck on your next build! 😊

Quit being so hard on yourself man, I really enjoy your reviews. Sure, I enjoy watching Jobby and MechaGaikotsu from time to time but I will always, without a shadow of a doubt, come back to your more professional video style. Keep doing what you do, I like it a lot.

I'm a little late but I really love your reviews and their structure. It's easy to tell that you put a lot of work into making it all neat and easy to understand, plus thr focus on more esoteric kits than the usual reviewer fare is really interesting. I also like the number system, and especially the focused nature of it. Other reviewers tend to jump around in no particular order, but yours work through the kit one aspect at a time.
If you hang up the hat I totally get it, but I feel like you fill an important niche in the review community, and hope you stick around.

I wish Bandai would finally reprint this MS. It's so hard to get for a fair price.
However.. I'm so glad you cover so much of these older suits. Production quality is always top notch. This alone is probably the single best newer English review on the entire platform that really helps to make an informed decision for buying this kit.

Like others have stated, I don't think you need to level criticism at your style compared to other reviewers. I think the consistency of your review format makes it a lot easier for the viewer to navigate it than any other gunpla reviewer on the site. You have a focused approach, which is more than can be said for some of the other reviewers on the platform, and you touch on older kits that often get overlooked due to others trying to keep up with every new release instead.
Hope to see you return to making these sometime!

I think there aren't that many details and part separation under the armor is simply because it is relatively skinnier than Zaku II and Gelgoog, so by adding too many parts on a 1/100 large model kit, I can see it might fall apart like the early days RG did...
