A review of the P Bandai exclusive RE/100 Shokew from the 1993 anime series Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. Watch Victory Gundam! It’s great!

- Production notes for future me to wonder why/how I was this bad at video production -
- This video was the most scatter brained I’ve been. Thought I was my A-game at the time, but ended up being my C+ game lol. Also got sick around the 75% mark too. So, in no particular order…
- Script - Really tried to change my ‘voice’ up. IE I tried to remove at lot of my crutch words. Stuff like ‘ya know’ and ‘lastly’ and ‘finally’ and ‘still.’ Just trying to vary things up.
- Script - Made a ton of mistakes the first go around, enough to have me go back after already recording the audio just to fix them. A few still made it in, like the black section on the ankle isn't actually a navy blue piece, it's a black piece. Though I don't think it'd be much different if the piece was navy blue as both are too dark for black paint to stand out anyway. Still, need to be better about catching those.
- Audio - I noticed in the previous review (EG RX-78-2 [US]) that my tone had become brighter. I really like it! But then again, I regularly see people that enjoy the more ASMR aspect of these videos. So, after reworking the script to fix those errors, I decide to rerecord the audio a few times. Really happy with how it panned out, though I still have some fine tuning to do.
- Audio - I think I’m ready for new music, but instead of crossing that bridge now, I figured I’d just turn it way down for the time being. I’d like to move to using multiple songs per video, maybe changing them for each of the 4 categories. Something to look into. Might not work though, as I don’t put ad-breaks into these videos to provide good changing points. We’ll see. Not the ads, as you if you sat through the pre-roll, then you shouldn’t have to suffer through any more lol
- Footage - Took about 3 nights to capture the footage. I think I’ve really gotten it down to a schedule. 1 for standing shots, 1 for close ups, and 1-2 for slider shots.
- Footage -I really couldn’t capture as much footage as I’d like because my computer only has a 124gb SSD to work with, and really only about 30gb of space available for working. Buying a new computer soon. Gonna start in 4K!
- Footage - Getting really happy with the set and slider set up. I do stabilize the slider footage after the fact though. This means that none of it is exactly 1:1 locked down (despite the slider itself being locked down), so crossfading between them isn’t 100%. I need to mess with the stabilizer effect in Premiere and try to standardize it’s zoom/smoothness.
- Footage - All stills were done with the Canon RF 100mm L, and they look AMAZING imo. Really happy with that (expensive) purchase.
- Computer - I made the stupid decision to update Adobe Premiere before working on this video. I should’ve known better, as it usually requires a good week to get working again. Still, I’m getting a new computer because at this point this laptop is the only bottleneck. It’s gotten me through some good times, but it’s time to step it up.
- Computer - Bought a 1tb NVMe drive in the hopes of replacing that 124gb SSD, but couldn’t get Windows to boot from it… I instead have it dangling from a USB Type-C port. Decided to try placing all the footage on there instead. Premiere ran great! Basically flawless! I also had enough space on the internal SSD to store all the still images, so no need for the weird compression/proxy stuff like in the EG RX-78-2 [US] video! I should’ve been doing this years ago, rather than cutting down on file size just to get it all on the internal SSD’s 30 gigs of free space. This is the way.
- Editing - Took forever lol. Once I found my groove though, I knocked a ton of it out in one 12 hour sit down. Then knocked back a few drinks and did another 6 hours. Think I slept for 14 hours afterwards plus was pretty hungover, but hey, got work done!
- Editing - Went super chill with the saturation/vibrance here. With the color of the set and this suit, everything looked gross when color graded too harshly. Need to find a good balance, as even now it's a bit of an eye sore.

Its unfortunate that the RE:100 line has pretty much been relegated to an occasional p-bandai release. It was nice having kits of more obscure suits at retail prices. Wish they had gotten to do the Nemo III, Methuss Kai, or even the Hizack Custom or Hizack Cannon back when they were still doing retail releases.
Agreed. I feel there's a lot of room for the RE/100 line to grow. Bandai just seems to be sitting on it right now.
@@redheadphones6 tbh it's not that suprising, looking how much simplified the last MG are. There's just no room for this line, especially when bandai decides to waste resources on things like multiple waves of battlelogue or kyoukai senki line of kits. Not sure how it looks in japan or us, but here in europe they're just gathering dust in hobbyshops.
There aren't NEARLY enough Gunplatubers that go into depth about the proportions or what makes them work/don't, so it's good to see someone that gives attention to them. Design and how the kit ultimately looks is probably one of the longest parts of developing Gunpla and yet almost no attention is given to them, so it's nice to see someone give them the attention they deserve. All in all it looks as if they tried to make the proportions look consistent to Katoki style, so as to mesh better when displayed with a Victory/V2 ver. Ka.
Also, I DID NOT KNOW that it wields the gatling gun! I just finished a Core Booster/Victory ver. Ka painted build and now I GOTTA see how this looks on a Shokew.
The Shokew looks like the result of a bygone era in the late 2010s, where the RE/100 could have really taken off and Bandai was going to develop more kits in the Victory lineup; Rig Shokew, Tomliat, Contio/Rig Contio. In some parallel timeline we would've gotten a Zolo that would've separated into the top/bottom flyers, or a Federation Javelin. It's a shame, because I feel like I'm one of the 3 English-speaking Victory fans that loves its designs and wants more kits from it. For now I'm glad we at least have this and the GunEZ. Fingers crossed Bandai reprints the MG Victory/Core Booster/V Dash ver. Ka, or maybe even makes the novel-exclusive Second Victory. Especially the V Dash, because the weapons on it are just amazing.
It goes without saying this video was much anticipated.
I wish for more HG 1/144 RE and MG 1/100 'Late U.C.' Mobile Suit kits someday, please make it happen Bandai Namco.

I'm glad that P-Bandai has gotten somewhat easier to get in America, so many kits that were impossible to get now have a (small) window of availability, and they are willing to restock older releases if I miss something. I may have to check out the Shokew if it becomes available again.

Also, I love how the design of the Shokew makes it a perfect arch-nemesis to the Victory Gundam. It would have been so cool if we saw this in the anime.

I got one of those years ago, and its a super sweet build. Painted mine more like a wasp with black airbrushed stripes, a few darker yellows on some pannels and metallic green eyes. Rebuilt the rifle as well to replace that ugly front grip and replaced it with a large grenade launcher as well. Really fun to pose this little guy.

I suddenly have an annoying desire to watch Victory again, despite telling myself that the second time was enough for the rest of my life. On another note, it is hilarious to me that the same series that brought us the mobile suit with Minovsky flight craft system also brought us mobile suits flying around with helicopter propellers.

I’m a year and a half late but to maintain vibrancy when painting red Gundam marker on dark colors, especially black, you’ll want to put a coat of white on first.

Glad to have you back! I have a rec, try dspiae acrylic water based markers. Theyre really good and easy to work with. The tip is a brush so you can be super accurate with it, or be broad and cover wider surfaces. The gold and gun metal is so good. Its water based so its easy to erase and to get it working. Cheap too
Their metallics are really good, but the normal colors are just okay. Probably wouldn't have done better than a gundam marker on those bug antennas, for example.
Was disappointed that it didn't come with the gatling gun but you mentioning it not only came in the V-Dash pack but also has compatible hands for holding it is great information! Overall awesome review! I have one of these and it's awesome!

Hey! For small details that you need to paint a lighter colour over a darker one, you can use a white gundam marker and colour it over with red sharpie. I did this in the chest divots for my HG EVA-01 and it turned out incredibly. I wouldn't do it for large pieces, but these antennae would work perfectly.

I used the .png that popped up on Google, then did some photoshop filtering to fix it up a bit. Still pretty low resolution though and real blurry when scaled up. Works for thumbnails though. I can probably send it to you. Do you have an account on Twitter/Instagram I could send a DM to?

I like the new "professional" look to the filming and editing, but I feel like the soul is missing because of the lack of that nostalgic intro and BGM. The video is still great either way.
Thanks! Also, I understand. I was just getting a little bored of the previous set up. There was no room for experimentation with the video work. When there's no background, any panning shots or slider footage is pointless as there's nothing in the background to create that sense of space/parallax. Still, I think you're right that I need to inject a little bit more SOUL back into it. Hoping to really go all out with the next MG review with the intro/scores/etc and find that happy middle.

You know I think the reason why the feet are so strangely designed is I think they originally were designed to act as a sprain to launch the mobile suit up in like a spring jump.

Bandai has lost confidence in anything that would be considered "Side MS" that isn't iconic like the Zaku or has western appeal like the Leo. So most of it is P bandai now. I can get it for recolors and variations, but it is always unfortnate when new tooling is web shop exclusive. Still waiting for a new run of the MG Mk V in the US.
