Not sure if I missed it but a few kettlebells would add several additional exercises you could do beyond standard dumbbells. The gym looks great though, thanks for the tip on the flooring. We are about to go all the way with a split heating and cooling unit. In Oklahoma it gets like the surface temperature of the sun hot in the summer so even at 5AM it will be REALLY nice to have AC out there.
That opening 😂 love it! In regards to catering to ease of use, putting the fan or music system on something voice activated (I use google home, but I realize this isn’t for everyone), I’m more likely to move straight into my workout when needed. There are cheap plug options that can essentially make anything voice activated and I adore it. Leave a broom in the garage for warm up mobility/movement - works just as well as pvc pipe but you likely already have it lying around. The above suggestions aren’t anything wild and that’s because Annie already covered most of my favorite garage gym pieces. 😃 Great video! Thanks for spending time on it. I hope Coop sees it and gets a laugh on the intro.
I stalked your Amazon list and got the same pulley system for Christmas last year! I need to get a lat pulldown bar and also figure out how to set up another attachment point because right now I only have it hanging from the pull-up bar. Thanks for this video! Garage gyms for life! 👊🏻
Would you recommend the stall mats for an indoor gym? My husband and I are expecting our first baby and are building a home gym, & we have been looking at rubber gym rolls which are pricey bc we heard the stall mats have rubber smelling fumes.. does that ever go away in your experience? our room is inside the house and is on the smaller side
I bought bumper plates back in 2017 when I really started building my home gym so I could use them for cleans/snatches. Honestly, I haven't done much of either over the past few years and could get by with just steel plates for the most part.
I am a sucker for bumpers. But I’d say most can get away with iron. I do love bumpers for deadlift however and find them beneficial for those who don’t pull 135 yet. But I get that this is a pretty specific need.
I think rack, barbell, bench, weight plates, weight plate holder and some kind of platform are essential. This way you can do bench, squat, and deadlift which most will agree these are the strongest lifts. Hip thrust has become more popular and I have been doing it too for glute development. Some other pieces I have bought is a 45 degree hyper or back extension which is basically another glute movement. One I am considering is a Nordic ham curl which works the back of legs too using bodyweight.
Loved the vid! I live in an apt (aka no garage), but I still found it to be informative. I have PowerBlocks, but it was helpful to learn things I can add with my limited space (bands!) Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
@@AnnieMillerCo have you started looking for one or is that in the future? Arent home gyms the best? I love mine. I just bought my 3rd bench the rogue manta FID. Replacing my original FID the Avanti which didnt decline that much hence the manta.
Very helpful! My husband and I hope to put a garage gym together on the next few years once we buy a house and sometimes it can be challenging to think of everything we would with managing space
I feel so much better about my own home gym!! I have a lot of the same equipment and will be looking into horse stall mats when I switch over the flooring! I did not know about the different barbells but have both!! Yay me!!! I watched this after you put in the central heat/air--- that is a BIG game changer for me in Central California!!
It CAN but you have to anchor it to something low and it is annoying to set up in my opinion. If you look at my exercise library of demo videos, you can see me doing rows on it.
This is one of the most thorough videos but also combined with some incredible videography. I know you said the barbell is essential, and I'd agree BARBELL IS KING as Coop would too. For those with smaller spaces which can't accommodate a squat rack, but not budgets what would recommend as your top 10 items? Would you still recommend barbells and plates, or would they no longer make the cut
Thank you so much! Paige Major is my videographer and editor! She’s awesome. And honestly no. A barbell in the absence of a rack would not make my cut. But a rack and barbell would be in my top 10 items personally. I suppose it depends on how you define “items.” If a single weight plate is ONE item, then no. But if “weight plates” are one item (various sizes and loads) then yes - barbell, rack, plates would be in my top 10.
Love this! Garage gym project is on our to-do for next summer! Right now, I'm taking up about 1/3 of our living room😂 Also, little mom tip....I keep a set of resistance bands in my car. Whenever we go to the playground, I get as much "pull" work in as possible using the playground equipment and my bands lol. I have no way of doing pull moves at home.
I think you said you are in WA? I also have a garage gym and I would check out Giant Fitness. They are located in Tukwila and Bonney Lake if you are in that surrounding area and I was able to purchase everything locally. Great small business!
Looks like Pillar 4 media should hire you. Much more knowledgeable and easier to watch than some of the Females that GGR has tried on that Channel. You can tell you know a lot about or use a lot of gym equipment
I am unsure what the two have to do with one another? IF you’re implying that there’s a connection (ie mooching off a parent in order to pay for gym equipment) I’m happy to clear that up for you. My husband and I traveled the world over a two year span and were forced to return home to the states preemptively with the pandemic. So we needed to stay with someone until we found a rental to live in while purchasing land to build our dream home on (part of which you see in this hopefully helpful garage gym tour). You know nothing about me or my financial situation beyond two statements made in a TH-cam video. Take your projections back from whence you came.
To each their own! For me, it’s ease of use/access. 1. I live in a rainy climate. Easier to get into the garage for some quick steps in whatever I’m wearing vs getting ready to go outside - I also don’t live in a running/walking friendly area/neighborhood. No access. 2. Walking on an incline is my personal favorite form of cardio and warming up for my lifts. I can get that from a treadmill :)
I used to say the same. I do metcons, so lots of rounds of runs integrated into the workouts. Ended up investing in a trueform non motorized treadmill because I realized leaving my property open while I go run for extended periods of time was giving me major anxiety (and locking it up each time wasn’t efficient), for a variety of reasons. It has since become one of my favorite pieces of equipment. And I have quite a few lol. Like the lady said, to each each’s own.
Great gym, the only think that took me aback was the pulley system. These ones are very basic and definitely the "bare bones" version. They swing and don't provide ability to move it up and down to unlock all the exercises of a pulley system. Would have expected a proper pulley system considering the price of some of the equipment you have, they are not expensive I think for $300 something dollars you can get a wall mounted one and IMO well worth it. But then again, maybe this one does the job for you guys so power to you 🦾
It’s mainly a space issue. Our main use is vertical pulling variations. So this is great for the value. But a full pulley system is far more versatile for sure!
Do you have a garage gym? Is there anything I left off that you consider a must-have?
Sandbags :)

The complete structure and presentation of this video is absolute perfection - clear - concise - brilliant
Well thank you!!
You rock, Annie. Thanks for doing this video! May the gainz also be with you.
Thank you!!
The algorithm brought me here. Really dope video and amazing gym setup. Outside of being hella jealous… you and your family have done a great job! 😊
WELL THANK YOU!! And welcome!
I about died when you opened with this is Coop with garage gym reviews hahaha
Many blessings lol

Love to hear that!
The truss connectors for the stall mats is a great idea!
Seriously works so well.
Annie! You are the GOAT! Thank you for such a thoughtful and thorough review. Your explanations are just the best! And shout out to Harriet! 😂❤👑

We never noticed a fume to begin with. But our local supply store also stores them outside so maybe that helped? I’d put them indoors still.
@@AnnieMillerCo okay that is good to know thank you!!

Nice work. I like how you have used a big budget and a big space to create something so functional and uncluttered.
Functional for our needs was definitely the goal! Thank you!
Love the video Annie!! Great choice on the Folding Rack 😊
Thanks so much! Just saw that y’all came out with a buildable system. Looks amazing!
Just about to finish my home gym and I was great to watch your video very concise :)
Stoked to hear that! Best of luck!
Dope gym! You've done a great job building that out.
So helpful!
No garage gym (yet) just building a corner of my bedroom gym at this point😂
Hey I follow people whose gyms are integrated into parts of their homes. I dig it.
Same lol
so helpful, beautiful space too !! Thanks !

Yes! Please do come back to it anytime it’s needed! The blog will stay updated as well - ie we just added the Torque M1 sled and I LOVE IT.

Eventually want a combo quad extension and hamstring curl machine.

Ayyyyy thanks Oz!
Back again, to watch this great video. Given Eleiko's gen 2 oppen bar is out, are there any options for those with gen 1 to swap their handles?
I am not sure but I’d bet Coup has several options on his channel (garage gym reviews)
