Totally agree. When Bentley is all grown up you know for a fact that he will remember all of these times with his dad. Good times! Derek has a beautiful family and I love watching them all work together with dad. Fred
Inside, outside....redo either-your choice; we'll be watching regardless! I enjoyed spending NYE here with you, Derek! I hope 2022 is a blessed year for you and your precious family!!! Fun video!!!
Dr, Lee, I love that you enjoy watching VGG as I also do. My oldest son just hired on as a project manager at Bunker Branding. I'm very proud of him and his family. I thought I'd be living in Boerne by now, but it looks like I'm a few years away still because, well, life. Happy new year to you and yours, Derek and family, and all of the VGG fans as well! Be safe!
Without gettin into a guy’s emotional trauma I just want to say how great it is that you include the family in all of this. My dad was not a great guy like you
My dad used to always maneuver his 1979 Ford pick up around the woods next to our house, mainly along the trails when I was 11. Made amazing memories. He even baby'd the bumper against a tree and threw it into drive and pushed it over. Ruined the power steering but it was worth it
Once again, I have to tip my hat to the man with nerves of steel. Give the outside a quick kiss to clean it up. Then steam wash the engine. Then move on to the interior. And lastly, but certainly not least, be thankful for Bentley. He’s such a great young man, and it’s obvious he loves being with you on all of your crazy adventures! Wishing you and your wonderful family a Happy, Healthy & Successful New Year
😂 bruh .. I found myself doing the same changing the plugs on my barra, the back one is usually hard to get out and there’s usually a 10 year old plug of it’s stuck 99% of the time and this one was mint and came out easy 😂 and said to myself ‘well I’ll be dipped’ haha
I've been using that expression (I'll be dipped in s*it is the full version) since 1969 when a co-worker introduced me to it! Glad to see it's still in vogue!
Having been snagged on the backside many times by shredded seat vinyl that has somehow turned into a steak knife, my vote is for an interior freshening.
Your son will live the blessing of getting to work with his dad on this truck (his truck) for the rest of his life. I'm looking forward seeing it come together.... like my old 41 and 59 did working with my dad.
I'd vote for cleaning the outside. That's what folks see first. Then clean the interior. Just my 2 cents!!! Happy New Year to you and the family Derek! Cheers brother!!!!!
Vice i am truck driver,i watch you videos every day when i stop and i am adicted to your chanel,a big support and a lot of gretings from Germany, thank you a lot!!!
I'm less than 2 min into the episode and am already so happy with the direction you chose. Budget rebuild... teach those who are looking to do their first rig about what's important and how you can get em back on the road for years to come. Love it.
Well a guy has his vote in for a good ol’ pressure washing and detailing video first and a guy could walk us through the order list for fixing up the interior and while that’s on order put the shine on the outside. Just my nickel’s worth of thought. Great video as always, keep it up!
You look too far down on the ol' thought machine up there. A guy might even give ya 20 fresh pennies and agree with it. Something like that at least. Honestly, would love to watch a full washing detailing video where he discusses the future of the interior for another video.
NEEDS to get rid of all the old mouse deaths and fugies and spores hanging around the fabric of that old seat. Paint can be done at any time, need to keep the little guys safe first
Derek I think it is so nice you are thinking of others in that not everyone can just throw thirty thousand at a truck to restore it. Appreciate you seeing how good you can make it reasonably!!!!
This is my favourite Channel! I love seeing the old metal saved from the scrapper. If a vehicle survives 40, 50 years it deserves to live on. Not just the rare muscle cars! Keep on Derek! Just my opinion I like to see them as stock as reasonably possible. Adding a larger rad is always a good idea!
I think shining on the ol’ rig would be a good next step. Make her look good going to town, and then do a little work on the inside. Absolutely love this truck and the content you’re creating!
I just gotta say, the content and the editing are both 5 stars in my book. Your channel is hands down the most endutaining one on the interwebs. Your wit and charm and vidja quality are the cat's meow! Sorry to hear from your face space page about all the lost content from the inferior quality digicals, dang! Most of all, the almost complete lack of profanity in an age where even the f word is commonly used is so appreciated. My wife and I absolutely love what you and Jessica and the boys, and even the occasional guest appearance of Brother Krang produce. It seems to be bringing you at least some level of properity. You deserve it. I hope the work is worth the reward. We wait with baited breath for each new vidja.
Totally agree with the lack of profanity in your show. My husband and I totally enjoy all your shows. Love your support from family and including them in your channel. Was worried about your health when you were driving the Rebel back from Florida. Glad you decided to call it quits and get alternative plans to get it home.
I have not read through all of you comments but you should know this already. If you are using a band clamps on a hose you need to tighten it when the hose is hot...really hot... and make sure you really crank it down and probably use 2 clamps. It's called expansion and contraction....cold is rigid ...hot is pliable so when you crank it down when it is hot it will never come off!!
I would pressure wash the exterior and engine bay first,it’s satisfying and it doesn’t cost too much. The interior might be a few bucks depending on what you plan on doing to it. Happy New Year to you and your family!
Derek seems like a really down-to-earth guy. Those old 1970's-era Ford 6-cylinder engines are pretty sturdy and forgiving; they're more likely to vapor lock if they overheat. Just keep on top of the oil changes!
My husband and I would both like to see an interior fix up…Maybe clean up the outside, but leave it as is paint wise. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do!
My oldest son of 4 boys rode around with me in my 77 f250 when he was 3 and its been parked since. Hes now 18 and i think its time to get it back on the road so we can all enjoy it again. Thanks for the motivation.
I like your thoughts on keeping this a budget restore, just making it really nice without going crazy. Sometimes all a rig needs is some TLC to be nice.
Thank you for the constant entertainment. The next step in the "restoration" should be cleaning the paint, then go to the interior. Happy new year everyone!! I💪
A guy had a 66 with a 300 straight 6 and that was my favorite ford truck of all time. love the twin I beam suspension. Also had a 74 with a 360, a 79 with a 400 and a 92 with a 300 6 cylinder. I personally prefer the body style of the 73 thru 79 fords, I would love to have that solid truck you are working on. That brings back a lot of memories
I like the way you think. It doesn't need to be high dollar full on show truck just cleaned up and made a very solid rig to be on the road for another 40 years.
If it was mine, I would concentrate on 2 areas: Spend some time underneath and replace bushings, seals, etc. Then when your confident there is no issues there, move to the interior a bit. Pull the seat, repair/replace wiring as needed, new floor mat, new seat or cover, general cleanup. Paint and exterior can wait, that is just cosmetic for the most part.
I've read some of these comments and the VGG community is amazing. Incredibly supportive and very kind. I am so glad to be a part of this community and I can't wait to see what happens next with this truck. I hope 2022 is an amazing year for us all, and I wish you all the best. :)
Hey Derek! So glad to see Bentley going for a drive with you. Back when I was his age, shoot, all of my childhood and teens, I went with my dad every chance I could. My dad worked a lot. Never saw him through the week. He worked in a steel mill 3pm-11pm and worked for a contractor trimming houses 6am-2pm. Saturdays he built decks for people. So Sundays were really the only day I got to see my dad except for Saturday evenings and when I was old enough, I went with my dad to help him build decks. More like be in the way. HAHA. Lost my dad to cancer in 2017. What I wouldn't give for one more ride with him. The Harley in my picture was his. He bought it brand new. 2005 night train. It's mine now. My mom gave it to me for as my dad and I used to ride together. Have a great day! Oh yeah, I think you should do the exterior and then the interior.
Dad was a mechanic. Thanks for bringing back those happy memories of being a little feller helping Dad bleed brakes. Pump it up. Down. Up. How she feel?
I love the father-son rides but you really should have a weather-tight travel box you can take with you containing oil, coolant, etc, and a few tools. You know the stuff you need.
This morning I applied my youtube learning and assorted collection of tools to the task of replacing a windshield water reservoir pump. Thank you, Derek, for your share of that learning. While you haven't told me how to work on a 2004 model of anything, you have showed that a guy with some tools can do just about anything. It's an '04 Malibu I bought new for a daughter.
Go for the exterior power wash, then spruce up the interior, including plugging the classic air venting around the floor. The fixes so far, are very satisfying. Love watching the rust-a-ration! Happy new year to Derek, Jess, and the boys!
Nice to see the camera focus is “right on” in the new shop. The one thing that always bugged me in the old shop….camera focused on the background and not on Derek. My vote is to give the truck a nice bath, makes working on it so much more fun.
As a dad to a 5-year-old son, this video makes me want to spend more time with him. Thank you for sharing your time with the kiddo. It's going to mean so much to him.
@@ViceGripGarage you can just call me guy. Lol I've been watching your stuff for a while and I've learned a bit from it. I hope your and lovely family have a wonderful New Year!
Like your garage cat “Motor”. Found your newest video an hour before the New Year. Nice way to bring in 2022 with you and your Son wrenching on the Ford. I say power wash the exterior. Thanks Derek for another adventure
Absolutely loving this series. I am "restoring" my grandfather's 79 with the 6 in a row, and would love to see an interior overhaul. Dash, gauges, and the storm keeper outers.
Giving away my age here, but I remember that these trucks came with a “high output heater” option with a larger heater core. It was was a must have for us fellers here in Canada. Came with I nice chrome decal on the dash to let you know what you had. Probably not an option that people would go for on a Tennessee truck
@@boerde6202 Go watch some of South Main Auto's videos. You'll keel over looking at the kind of rust he has to work on. When your nuts look like popcorn you know your in the salt belt.
Rewatched this one this morning. Don’t know if you look at new comments on old videos but I gotta tell ya that videos like this one are your absolute best stuff IMO. Subtly and expertly combining entertainment with rock solid education/information. Sincerely, thanks for everything you do. More vidyas like this one please!!!
My wife and I wait for these videos here in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. It’s refreshing that you’ve kept the ‘realness’ of the channel. I’m more of a Chevy guy but all of these old vehicles are heads above what’s out there today. I hope you don’t have a blow by issue… you did make it back though and nice ice cube hose too, jerry rigging at it’s finest!
VGG has to be one of my most favorite and enjoyed youtube channels to watch, and I am subscribed to a LOT of different car channels. Great video Derek, cant wait to see what's in store for the rest of this rustoration!
I love it that you decided to just restore what you have and not do a full blown restoration. I love your channel and how you work. Your channel is awesome and your videos are so comparable to what I do with my vehicles. Keep up the good work man. Happy new year
It does not matter what you do next. I am old and used to try to hot rod my car with my buddies back in the 70's. I love your channel and wish you and yours the best. Your choice, I will watch whatever you do. Thank you for everything you do. Kiss those babies and Mama.
A guy can see Mortske Repair rocking back and forth on the floor right now because of the flexi-hose install. I love it. Happy and best New Year to you fellas and fellet’s
Well I'll be dipped, we got ourselves a vidjea to ring the new year in with! Thanks brother, we appreciate all your hard work this year. We are proud of how far you have come in your journey! We are also SUPER excited to see what 2022 holds in store. God bless you and your family!
our Guy is staying true to his channel’s mission (on a budget), but I’m very happy & proud that it’s shot in a new shop. It’s a great lesson in hard work, opportunity & being BadAss in general. Happy New Year, Bieris & the entire VGG Community. let’s all get it in 2022.
@@shawngrenaud - that’s what VGG success looks like to me: cars parked indoors under not-so-rusty cars, a shop cat, a handful of piston-powered rides for the boys…and flannel.
I like where a feller is going with this build. I would want to keep it a worker, daily drive able. Maybe a little internal refresh on the old 6. Maybe some light upgrades that will make her a tickle more peppy. Since you're aiming the finished product to potentially be a first vehicle for an offspring, a guy can't go too crazy with big blocks, sushi slicers, or laughing gas, but maybe a mild cam or better ability to inhale and exhale the go juice. I'm excited to see where you go with it and I respect your idea to make it where the average feller can put one like it on the street and head to town in it.
Brings back a lot of memories for me. I was two years old when my dad purchased a 1978 Ford 250. Big old 460 automatic. Spend a ton of years inside that truck on every adventure you can think of. Two tone metallic green supercab.
“We’ll. This sure looks different” as the man appears to be filling his rad-di-ater with gasoline, just cracked me up! Interior next please. Cleaning the exterior will be the cut the grass.
Really enjoyed this video on the old Ford. Reminds me of the time when we were teenagers working on our first vehicles. Getting it running good first, then interior and clean up exterior. No body or paint work, no money in the budget for that. Glad you're keeping looking like a survivor. Does not matter which direction you take first, just happy you are inspiring a new generation of young people.
This video has a slightly different flavor than the usual and it is very good! It’s really good to see progress on a simple vehicle and as usual you do a bang up job of explaining the reasoning and method for what you are doing! Amazes me on how you absolutely convince me in every video to pick up and save on another old vehicle by just showing love to the poor old rigs. I love the content and keep on reasonably rejuvenating on this truck! Keep cleaning up the parts that eyes can easily see !
Vgg coming out clutch with an awsome new years eve video!!! Thanks Derek, hope you and the family have a great new year, 2021 was a great year for you, can't wait to see what 2022 brings!!
My first truck was a 1977 Ford 4x4 . It had a 6 cylinder engine floor shift stick . Had a problem with the shifter rattling . Bought this truck back in 1978 . At a ford dealer . It had power steering and power brakes . The guy who had owned it before me had the head shaved I was told . Like this video , it bring back some memories for me of the one I used to own .
Just started watching this video, totally agree with a guys decision for budget restoration. Bring the thunder! Oh, and Happy New Year to you and your awesome family Derek. , hope it bring the best of everything you can hope for. Now, back to your video with a cold snack.
Great budget rebuild video Derek. I love how you have your kiddos helping you out. I think I would like an interior redoooo. But, but, but, a guy thinks you do what you doo. Thanks for the great content. 👍

any time you use a pipe for cooling, you need a slight flare on each end to keep the hoses from popping off. Made many for circle track and demolition derby cars, and always have to flare the pipe.
When a guy first saw the technoligy applied. He might of though through the beany, that on the suckin side it'll be not a wisp of an issuenation. But when the though of system pressure come to play, pop goes the weasel. Run some beads around the exhaust pipe ends in the water main.
@@feelinghealingfrequences7179 well i would use a pear of channels lock pliers and do little bits at a time. you dont need much flare, just enough so the hose wont slip off
I stumbled on your channel late Christmas eve, and I was hooked. You are quietly one of the funniest people Ive watched on youtube in a long time. And obvs a very very good mechanic. Ive watched several videos, and every one Im enthralled. Thanks for the hours of soothing phrases like 'Poverty Chrome'.
@Mike Hoskins totally agree, the comedy gets repetitive and predictable after a couple episodes, to the point I wish he'd drop the character totally as he's still interesting to listen to when being serious - but damn it's great watching the work and skills on show here.
There's nothing wrong with that truck. I'm fully in support of your decision to refresh it. I wish we could find nice old trucks like that where I live. Everything that old is always rusted out.
I'd love to see the paint get cleaned and freshened up WITH SHINE JUICE then get the interior all dolled up. I've seen a weld bead get put on pipe like that as a barb for hose to hang on to. Looks like the truck's on the way to being a great goin to town rig.
FORD First On Race Day!!! Hotrod 6 with a 3 on the tree Build. Nothing like driving an old simple honest basic pick-up!!!! What a beauty!! Thanks for all the great content!!!!.

Great to see you back in the shop wrenching Derek, my vote is for that oh so satisfying pressure wash of the Exterior. A very happy new year to you and your family, and may God bless you with a safe, fun, and prosperous new year !
I can't remember exactly what it was, but on engine masters they said the non-clutch fan draws like 25 horsepower or something ridiculous like that when the engine is at full tilt. Your rig probably only spins about 2/3 that, so whatever that works out to HP wise, but either way, you're gaining a lot of horsepower getting rid of it. This I6 is known for a lot of things, low end torque and reliability being at the top of that list, but HPs ain't one of them. You need all the extra oomph you can get.
@@Hanzyscure You may be right about the alternator depending on its amperage, but they don't run continuously like the fixed mechanical fan and they don't draw nearly enough amps to equal the losses from that old fan either. Say they draw 30 max amps, that's 360 watts at 12 volts, which works out to about half a horsepower. Say your alternator efficiency level is 50%, it's still going to be in the one horsepower range *at peak draw*, which is is usually when the fan motors start, then the amperage draw will drop some once they're spinning. This is not to mention that when you're at speed, if the system is designed correctly, they usually won't even kick on at all because of the air naturally flowing over the radiator, and if they do kick on they'll draw less because of this same effect. Much much more efficient system and way less horsepower draw than a mechanical fan.
The happiness I felt for Derek during that back road Tennessee drive with his boy, in an awesome rig was just heart warming.

Oh yeah, I think you should do the exterior and then the interior.
good dad. :)
I know what you mean , my dad was a Jack of all trades I helped him do all the repairs around the house. I miss him sometimes. Been a long time.
Your approach is perfect Derek most of us have to restore just this way thank you for keeping it real.
Just keeping it running is restoration for me. If it runs correctly, it's restored.
The start of this video is why this guys the best
Let’s not throw $30,000 at it
In my opinion has the best show on motor trend now too! 👍🇨🇦👍
I really didn't want to be alone on New Years but when I saw that VGG uploaded a new video, it made my night so much better. thank you guys
You and me both
I’m going to love this series!!!!! Love how Y’all always try to keep everything relatable!!
You’ll get hooked Vice Grip Garage . I know I sure am . Lol .
Yes! A guy gets to watch a guy do a restore on something He owns. In my price range even.
You know - anybody that can teach me about Sparkolaters and Lightning Hoses deserves my attention and respect. I think I'll keep watching fellers...
Dude, I truly enjoy watching your videos. You're awesome. Thank you.
Thanks Nicholas
@@ViceGripGarage Ho ho ho merry Fordmas
@@ViceGripGarage you can just call me guy. Lol I've been watching your stuff for a while and I've learned a bit from it. I hope your and lovely family have a wonderful New Year!
Maybe an actual temperature gauge would be a good addition. Making the interior a nice place to be can be an incentive to make the outside look good.
Like your garage cat “Motor”. Found your newest video an hour before the New Year. Nice way to bring in 2022 with you and your Son wrenching on the Ford. I say power wash the exterior. Thanks Derek for another adventure
That's awesome. My dad had that pickup in doo-doo brown
Absolutely loving this series. I am "restoring" my grandfather's 79 with the 6 in a row, and would love to see an interior overhaul. Dash, gauges, and the storm keeper outers.
Really looking forward to this build series. So far my favorite rig you've had on the channel. Love these old fords.
Giving away my age here, but I remember that these trucks came with a “high output heater” option with a larger heater core. It was was a must have for us fellers here in Canada. Came with I nice chrome decal on the dash to let you know what you had. Probably not an option that people would go for on a Tennessee truck
u are 56 years old
Lol. How’d you guess
@@boerde6202 lol "legal on the road"
Great video. I like the simple way about your explanation. Keep up the good work. Happy New Year to your family.
Loving the content, expecially these lengthy episodes. Such better content than what's found on the motion picture box.
Definitely!
Not even 2 minutes in, and I am loving what I am hearing about what the plans are for this truck! Love those late '70s Fords!
I'd love to see the exterior pressure washed. I suspect it's going to be pretty satisfying.
My answer is YES, inside and outside do it all, we will be watching and enjoying every minute, love Ford trucks 🛻
I'm in Yarmouth too lol. Small world.
Setting off fireworks 15 mins ago for new year here in the UK, now watching a new Vice Grip.. 2022 has started well..👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
A guy can see Mortske Repair rocking back and forth on the floor right now because of the flexi-hose install.
Get the seat fixed for the family God bless you and your family and friends 🙏 ❤ LT says piece of mind
our Guy is staying true to his channel’s mission (on a budget), but I’m very happy & proud that it’s shot in a new shop. It’s a great lesson in hard work, opportunity & being BadAss in general. Happy New Year, Bieris & the entire VGG Community. let’s all get it in 2022.
Lol! The 2-lift, 13-car-garage budget! :)
@@shawngrenaud - that’s what VGG success looks like to me: cars parked indoors under not-so-rusty cars, a shop cat, a handful of piston-powered rides for the boys…and flannel.
Interior, engine bay, then refresh the paint. Truely appreciate your content. Wishing you and your family a great 2022.
Depends how good or bad the interior is. The exterior can be done at any point, I'd want it comfortable to drive...
@WHATSAPP ➊➌➌➊➋➏⓿➌➌➍➐ hmmm, seems fishy.
1.12 million subscribers! You've clearly got the formula. I'm hooked.
Happy new year Derek n family I'm enjoying ur content may all ya be bless
Congratulations, you win the "like lottery". lol
Great budget rebuild video Derek. I love how you have your kiddos helping you out.
I think I would like an interior redoooo. But, but, but, a guy thinks you do what you doo.
Thanks for the great content. 👍
You should have hand washed it in the rain it cuts the tree sap and grime pretty good just a trick my GRANDFATHER showed me poor man car wash!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR 💯🇺🇸🔥✌✌
I like that old ford! My buddy had one in high school with a “fresh” bench seat out of a junkyard Caddy, we rode in style.
@@travo5050 I had two 3/4 ton 73 model and 73 f100 short wide with a 6in a row not enough Hp to tow the 300 6 you had to stop and check the gas fill up on oil 🤣🤣wish I had half the old vehicles back that I just gave away basically 🤦♂️💯🇺🇸🔥✌✌
any time you use a pipe for cooling, you need a slight flare on each end to keep the hoses from popping off. Made many for circle track and demolition derby cars, and always have to flare the pipe.
Sometimes double clamping will work too. I have to do that on plumbing repairs where it goes from copper pipe to hose.
When a guy first saw the technoligy applied. He might of though through the beany, that on the suckin side it'll be not a wisp of an issuenation. But when the though of system pressure come to play, pop goes the weasel. Run some beads around the exhaust pipe ends in the water main.
cheap bead roller does the trick, you can even make one if your handy
how do u flare a pipe with regular tools only?
@@feelinghealingfrequences7179 well i would use a pear of channels lock pliers and do little bits at a time. you dont need much flare, just enough so the hose wont slip off
I stumbled on your channel late Christmas eve, and I was hooked. You are quietly one of the funniest people Ive watched on youtube in a long time. And obvs a very very good mechanic. Ive watched several videos, and every one Im enthralled. Thanks for the hours of soothing phrases like 'Poverty Chrome'.
Thanks for subscribing, appreciate you watching
@Mike Hoskins totally agree, the comedy gets repetitive and predictable after a couple episodes, to the point I wish he'd drop the character totally as he's still interesting to listen to when being serious - but damn it's great watching the work and skills on show here.
I'll 2nd that,,, It;s muckin futch
There's nothing wrong with that truck. I'm fully in support of your decision to refresh it. I wish we could find nice old trucks like that where I live. Everything that old is always rusted out.
I'd love to see the paint get cleaned and freshened up WITH SHINE JUICE then get the interior all dolled up. I've seen a weld bead get put on pipe like that as a barb for hose to hang on to. Looks like the truck's on the way to being a great goin to town rig.
Bettin that Ole Gal will buff out with a good shine.
30 seconds old 130 likes you’re a special guy Derek! And my old lady and my girls all come watch your videos together.
The “Delicate” cut had me rolling.
Happy New Year VGG Family!
FORD First On Race Day!!! Hotrod 6 with a 3 on the tree Build. Nothing like driving an old simple honest basic pick-up!!!! What a beauty!! Thanks for all the great content!!!!.
Looks like you got a new addition to the garage... a Kitty!! He or Her will help keep those pesky meeces away!
The extra load on the alternator from the two fans will rob some horsepower. A higher output amp alternator might be needed in the future.
I'd continue under the hood and make it look spiffy, then the exterior looks but I'll watch whatever you decide. It definitely deserves some love.😎
Looks like a good day.
