If your functional block diagrams and troubleshooting charts aren't out, you're wrong. Never deviate from them, and always stay in your lane. The best people in their fields use a healthy dose of tribal knowledge and chasing hunches. It's refreshing to see it alive and well.
Been a mechanic for 50 years and can't believe how interesting this guy is to watch. Nice dry sense of humour and working on some great old US muscle cars is part of it. Also the long drives in various un-roadworthy vehicles with no guarantee of getting home as well. Obviously a lot of others feel the same.

I'm 36, have done a lot of workin' on cars, I too wish I had some old gem to putz around with. But nah, I'm a poor disabled vet - Lucky if I have enough left after bills to buy food every month. I still patreon $1/mo to Derek though, he gives me enough entertainment that it's the least I can do. Watch too much 'Tube, like y'all, but thankfully I never made the mistake of breeding lol

I remember drooling over these cars on the showroom floor! In 68 I was only 17 and even when I was 18, about to graduate and get drafted, buying one was impossible for me. Insurance rates for a 19 year old male driver precluded the possibility of having one then, so I passed and eventually settled for a '72 Dodge Demon 340, 3 speed, plain jane. It was a lemon. My loss. Anyway I seem to be wanting to relive my youth in my old age LOL I truly and totally enjoyed watching this "will it run!!!!!" Made me feel young again! Thank you!!!!
I am 79 years old and still love old cars like my 47 Plymouth coupe but find it much harder to get up off the floor or lean over a fender for hours. Your video's afford me to continue to live my pleasure of old cars through you. Keep up the entertainment love it.

I know the feeling. Im 65 and these videos bring back a lot of memories of my younger life. I worked on many chevys and Fords in my younger days. Now I live in Europe and its all Euro and Asian cars. Computerized plastic cookie cutout cars. I love all of these old American cars. I would love to have another Chevy or Ford Pickup.
I’m 68 and watch these videos for a shot of nostalgia. I grew up and south Florida where these muscle cars were part of scenery. The were just hunks of non aerodynamic metal with a lot of horsepower that punched holes in the atmosphere😎 Great times and memories😌
Almost 86 and just love this channel! Takes me back to a 1948 Morris 8, first car I ever owned. Top speed 55mph. Ha, just great work Dereck, don't stop yet for a hundred years.

not even sure if it needs a full restore. would be a good driver with the interior redone, fix the heat and any electric issues. the body and paint isn't that bad to worry about a full restore.

Dad said that FB was hands down the fastest street car he had ever seen on the road. Lol
Two years ago I lost a sweet companion( boxer dog) after eight years, after losing her it had me down in the dumps pretty upset, well long story short, this was the episode I watched, for about hour my mind was at somewhat at ease.
My first car was a '68 firebird sprint , with 250 I6 overhead cam four barrel . Three speed manual would leave a ten foot patch in third . Best $450 I've spent to date . Let her go for way less than a new business venture . Glad I'm not that dumb anymore .
If his videos were on TV, I'd be glued to it. His content is so much better than what passes for entertainment. But then, he'd have to conform to their rules, stop using funny lingo, and add more "drama". :-) It's what made Click & Klack so worth listening to.
I literally just sideswiped a telephone pole today in my first brand new truck (bought in January) because I was a complete and utter bonehead and cut the corner too much like a bonehead!!! This comment was the first thing I read when I got home and it just hits different! Lol

When I saw the mountain dew, it made me think about my granpa who was an anti tank artillery sergeant, and was also a demolition and explosives man. He was a gruff old fella, but he taught me and my siblings how to shoot, drive the farming equipment, and he blew a lot of stuff up with dynamite. Grandpa never swore, and he wouldn't let us say fart, but he called mountain dew panther piss, and I laughed so hard. He told us this crazy poem that someone had written on the wall of a truck stop, because when he got to old to do the farming he leased the land, and became a truck driver for melling tool, and one of these trips he read the poem. (little birdie in the snow, busted wing and broken toe, enticed him to me with a slice of bread, took a rock and bashed his head.) We were all shocked, because I could not imagine my granpa saying that. He was so much fun to be around, and I spent almost every weekend over at his house with my granny, sure miss them. Thanks for doing these video's, because I am disable which I hate, but I do what I can, and watching you and your family reminds me of some of the thing's I did with my grandparents, and my dad. Gets kinda lonely when most of your family has passed away, and the fam remaining don t care. God bless everyone, because He has blessed me.

I currently own a 2018 Silverado High Country 6.2 Liter engine and all the goodies, waited a long time for such a great truck. I also want to recognize your wife Jennifer for the family atmosphere you bring to us oldies and your kids who are getting the kind of life that will make good citizens out of them. My first father in law was a retired MD who practiced in MI. He drove an old MG on house calls (yeah... he was 80 when I first knew him so house calls) and in the winter he would put a kerosene lantern on the floorboard on the passenger side to keep warm. Said it worked like a charm.
I grew up on the east cost in the 70's and 80's surrounded by old fast cars. I'm painfully familiar with being in an old steel box with no heat and bone shattering temps. Brought back a lot of fun memories for me! Not to mention seeing those $2.39 gas prices from days gone by 😁 Another 1 hour of pure VGG gold!

Me and my wife were poor when we were young (about 4 decades ago), so we bought cars that we could afford. These cars brought us a lot of “surprises”, but they also taught us a lot about keeping vehicles running. I love your channel, as it’s more informative than you realize, my friend.

78 year old muscle car guy I guess that's why I love this channel plus the humor from Derek. Few hours of work with wiring, wipers & heat & this will be a nice muscle car. Nothing seems to bother this guy unless we just don't see it. He just tackles the next problem & moves on.
I pulled the cover off my 34 ford coupe last winter and never went back into the warehouse but when i went back in there this spring it was completely caked with dust like quarter of an inch thick😂. The dust is building a nice car cover now😂

That sound of a GM V8 trying to turn over just brings be straight back to high school when my dad and I were restoring a 1970 C10. Me cranking it and my dad trying to get the engine to turn over, really makes a guy smile to think back to those times.
Takes me back to the day. I bought a '68 in 1973 for $500 and went to town on it. 400 cu H/O, Blackjack headers, Holley 950 double pump, Accel ignition from top to bottom , 26" Mickey Thompsons on the back end and really high shackles (couldn't afford air shocks). I could walk over any 'Vette in town. Thanks for the memories.
Sorry but any of the stock BB Corvettes would make you look silly. My 74 L-88 vette pre cat car with a SB 400 went 135mph in third and burnt rubber speed shifting into 4th to 165mph. Speed shifting the Muncie stone crusher @ 7500 was common back then.

I have to say I’ve broken throttle cables, and use my shoelaces to drive home. I’ve had clogged fuel filters and bought toilet brush and poked it through to get home but when I saw that popped out freeze out plug, my stomach dropped. I got the upmost respect for you. You’re the man.

I remember drooling over these cars on the showroom floor! In 68 I was only 17 and even when I was 18, about to graduate and get drafted, buying one was impossible for me. Insurance rates for a 19 year old male driver precluded the possibility of having one then, so I passed and eventually settled for a '72 Dodge Demon 340, 3 speed, plain jane. It was a lemon. My loss.
Anyway I seem to be wanting to relive my youth in my old age LOL

I worked on many chevys and Fords in my younger days. Now I live in Europe and its all Euro and Asian cars. Computerized plastic cookie cutout cars.

I’m 68 and watch these videos for a shot of nostalgia. I grew up and south Florida where these muscle cars were part of scenery. The were just hunks of non aerodynamic metal with a lot of horsepower that punched holes in the atmosphere😎

not even sure if it needs a full restore. would be a good driver with the interior redone, fix the heat and any electric issues. the body and paint isn't that bad to worry about a full restore.

My dad got hold of a 67 Firebird/400 and when his mechanic got it running, he stole it a cpl wks later. Dad crossed paths with the guy 2xs in town, but could not catch that Bird... Dad said that FB was hands down the fastest street car he had ever seen on the road. Lol

Two years ago I lost a sweet companion( boxer dog) after eight years, after losing her it had me down in the dumps pretty upset, well long story short, this was the episode I watched, for about hour my mind was at somewhat at ease.
Sweet find! I had a 68 Firebird. Always wanted one since I was 14. Had a lot of fun in that car, but sold it for another business venture.
Buy another one and put a cummins in it.
My first car was a '68 firebird sprint , with 250 I6 overhead cam four barrel .
Three speed manual would leave a ten foot patch in third . Best $450 I've spent to date .
Let her go for way less than a new business venture . Glad I'm not that dumb anymore .

I literally just sideswiped a telephone pole today in my first brand new truck (bought in January) because I was a complete and utter bonehead and cut the corner too much like a bonehead!!! This comment was the first thing I read when I got home and it just hits different! Lol
This one definitely seemed in better shape mechanically than a lot of them you bring home. It's certainly one of the nicer looking vehicles. Well worth fixing up I'd think.

I miss my 68 Firebird. My was pearl-white, had Truespokes & was a soft-top. Love to have that back right now.
When I saw the mountain dew, it made me think about my granpa who was an anti tank artillery sergeant, and was also a demolition and explosives man. He was a gruff old fella, but he taught me and my siblings how to shoot, drive the farming equipment, and he blew a lot of stuff up with dynamite. Grandpa never swore, and he wouldn't let us say fart, but he called mountain dew panther piss, and I laughed so hard. He told us this crazy poem that someone had written on the wall of a truck stop, because when he got to old to do the farming he leased the land, and became a truck driver for melling tool, and one of these trips he read the poem. (little birdie in the snow, busted wing and broken toe, enticed him to me with a slice of bread, took a rock and bashed his head.) We were all shocked, because I could not imagine my granpa saying that. He was so much fun to be around, and I spent almost every weekend over at his house with my granny, sure miss them. Thanks for doing these video's, because I am disable which I hate, but I do what I can, and watching you and your family reminds me of some of the thing's I did with my grandparents, and my dad. Gets kinda lonely when most of your family has passed away, and the fam remaining don t care. God bless everyone, because He has blessed me.

I am also 79 years old and really appreciate you bringing new life to cars and especially pick ups. I currently own a 2018 Silverado High Country 6.2 Liter engine and all the goodies, waited a long time for such a great truck. I also want to recognize your wife Jennifer for the family atmosphere you bring to us oldies and your kids who are getting the kind of life that will make good citizens out of them. Really enjoy the show and the work you folks put into it. You earn every penny you get and then some!

My first father in law was a retired MD who practiced in MI. He drove an old MG on house calls (yeah... he was 80 when I first knew him so house calls) and in the winter he would put a kerosene lantern on the floorboard on the passenger side to keep warm. Said it worked like a charm.
I grew up on the east cost in the 70's and 80's surrounded by old fast cars. I'm painfully familiar with being in an old steel box with no heat and bone shattering temps. Brought back a lot of fun memories for me! Not to mention seeing those $2.39 gas prices from days gone by 😁 Another 1 hour of pure VGG gold!

Me and my wife were poor when we were young (about 4 decades ago), so we bought cars that we could afford. These cars brought us a lot of “surprises”, but they also taught us a lot about keeping vehicles running. I love your channel, as it’s more informative than you realize, my friend.

78 year old muscle car guy I guess that's why I love this channel plus the humor from Derek. Few hours of work with wiring, wipers & heat & this will be a nice muscle car. Nothing seems to bother this guy unless we just don't see it. He just tackles the next problem & moves on.

I pulled the cover off my 34 ford coupe last winter and never went back into the warehouse but when i went back in there this spring it was completely caked with dust like quarter of an inch thick😂. The dust is building a nice car cover now😂

This brought tears to my eyes. That 68 was in a lot better shape than my 69 firebird when I first saw mine.
Mine is called the” flamin chicken “ on account of the dash fire it had.
That sound of a GM V8 trying to turn over just brings be straight back to high school when my dad and I were restoring a 1970 C10. Me cranking it and my dad trying to get the engine to turn over, really makes a guy smile to think back to those times.

I bought a '68 in 1973 for $500 and went to town on it. 400 cu H/O, Blackjack headers, Holley 950 double pump, Accel ignition from top to bottom , 26" Mickey Thompsons on the back end and really high shackles (couldn't afford air shocks). I could walk over any 'Vette in town. Thanks for the memories.

Sorry but any of the stock BB Corvettes would make you look silly. My 74 L-88 vette pre cat car with a SB 400 went 135mph in third and burnt rubber speed shifting into 4th to 165mph. Speed shifting the Muncie stone crusher @ 7500 was common back then.
