      +Matt Day M6 is just an overpriced gadget for the Leica elitist, The Minolta CLE will kill it on any level is way cheaper and has a lot more to offer. There's a reason why minolta got into a big fight with Leica basically making a better camera then the M7 and less then half the price with the exact same lenses. The more you know, Leica is overrated and overpriced.

  • @ShawnBrezny
    @ShawnBrezny 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For me I didn't like the Leica M6 at first, couldn't get used to the rangefinder focusing, manual metering, it was so different from my AF dslr cameras. But after spending more time with an M2, I learned about sunny16 and zone focusing and I became hooked. It's now one of my favorites. I agree on the costs being high, but they seem to be a growing investment.

    • @nickbedford
      @nickbedford 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the biggest benefit of using a fully manual film camera, rangefinder in particular, is that it forces you to become a much better photographer over time, from seeing and working with light to previsualising a composition, to knowing how to work on nothing but the simplest cameras and trusting your choices will work.
      Ever since shooting film more and more (now 100%), my skill as a photographer before even thinking about cameras and lenses has increased a lot.

    100% agree on the price, especially now! I bought mine for £600 and that was already a stretch. Just had a look and was surprised that I couldn't find one below £2000! • @PikasoArts
    @PikasoArts 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm somewhat confused, why do you use a camera that uses film rather than a modern digital one? Is it because of the look of the images? I've only shooted with DSLR's and I recently found your channel.

    • @NegativeFeedback
      @NegativeFeedback  7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      There's quite a lot of reasons really,
      It slows me down since every photo costs, which makes me think harder about the photos that I take, so I often end up only taking the photos I like as opposed to digital where i'll just snap away and spend hours editing out the photos that I wouldn't have taken.
      The look is great and is something that I found myself trying to replicate with my digital photos.
      With larger format film cameras the potential resolution is actually far greater than a digital camera, so there's more scope to print bigger.
      It's just a work process that I really enjoy and I like the physical aspect to it, and I definitely appreciate spending less time editing my photos.

    • @PikasoArts
      @PikasoArts 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! It is something I definitely want to at least try, what is your opinion on the Holga 120N? It's the cheapest film camera that I see online and looks decent to try and get into film shooting

    • @jcnash02
      @jcnash02 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Brandon Lim there are hundreds of cameras in that range that would fit your needs. Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, & Kodak all made great cameras in the 1950's to 1990's that can be had for that much or less. Look into a Nikon Fm or FA, Pentax K1000, Olympus Om-1, Canon Ae-1, Olympus RC or XA, & check forums or select EBay sellers like KEH or Roberts Camera to find them in great shape.

      @NegativeFeedback  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not really a portrait camera, you're probably better off with an SLR like the Pentax 67, not to say you can't use the mamiya though

      @Dscar1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      NegativeFeedback I've thought of one of the Pentaxes. But I know it's a beast as a walk around. Plus multiple versions. 67 version with MLU seems the most logical.

    Cool video and amazing photos but as a film camera noobie it would of been nice if you talked more about all the little things like how the focus works as compared to SLR's, how it looks through the viewfinder, how the light meter works, aperture, etc. That woulda been cool!

    Hey man, only discovered your series this evening. Have to say I'm really impressed. Personally I'm a digital Fuji-X shooter chap, who now and again has a fling with a friend's Mamiya 6 and an old Polaroid, but you're tempting man... you're tempting me. I really like the portrait at 3:45 by the way, reminds me a bit of a Fred Herzog self portrait I've seen. Beautiful light. You really know your stuff when it comes to actually getting good pictures, which is more than most TH-cam reviewers do. Have you tried Garry Winogrand? Might be your thing when loading with HP5...

    Good video but not much reviewing, didn't mention about the benefits of rangefinder or the M6 specifically. Why was it the most lust after camera other than it being silent? Would have liked to hear more detail about why it's so great and why it isn't. What type of photographs is it suited for? What was the reason(s) that made you buy it? Why is it not suited for you style of photography?

    I'm looking for a camera that can give me good grain kinda like a vintage look in my photos, any options?

    Do you have any interest in doing a review video for a Bessa Voigtlander R-Series camera? I in particular am interested in the Bessa R4M. Love the channel!

    Had an M5 for a while. I would STILL love an M6 but the same issue would apply. I'd forever worry that it would break and then it's the expense of fixing it. At least with the M6 you can get it fixed. With the M5, not so easy due to parts scarcity. Shoot with a Bessa now. Not a million miles away from the same experience.
