    Addressing an incorrect piece of information in this video:
    Backlash measurement was refered to in video was millimeter scale not inches- proper backlash can be found below to clear up confusion.
    Backlash spec is as follows
    0.10 - 0.15 mm
    (0.0039 - 0.0059in)

    Sorry if this is a dumb question im new to all of this but trying to learn on my own diff. The tool your holding at 27:16, did you modify something to make that? I cant seem to find a bearing sleeve or something that will sit on the inside of the bearing but also fit around the pinion so i can press the bearing on. Thanks in advance this video has helped me a ton.

      @@2000whitey believe it or not its a inner race of an old pinion bearing, i cut the cage off and removed all the rollers.

    This is such a helpful video man! Thanks! I'm about to attempt to swap in an LSD in my Z. I have a few questions though. I'm not planning on changing my ring and pinion, so I don't plan on pressing out the pinion. Is that ok that I don't press it out? Also, since I'm not pressing it out, will my gear pattern be in spec?

    • @Repairinaaron
      @Repairinaaron  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can install just the carrier/2-way portion as long as you use the same ring gear that was mated with the pinion in the diff.
      You will still want to inspect for proper side bearing backlash specifications with the dial indicator and adjust accordingly. I also check the painted gear pattern with every diff i build even if its just the 2-way carrier install

    When you said it was acceptable pattern on the ring gear but it wasn’t centered I kind of lost you . when you said you had to run it with the smallest shim possible did you mean on the pinion? If so did you go thinner then 3.04 . How did you center it. The video was very good. Thank you for your information.

    • @Repairinaaron
      @Repairinaaron  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the confusion, i was talking about the pinion shim being the smallest one.
      Heres a link thats helpful to identify what are acceptable patterns. Its not necessary centered that your trying to achieve. Sierra gear has an awesome reference from what different gear patterns mean and how to correct them.

    Can you replace the outer pinion bearing with just the drive shaft removed and diff still bolted in the car?

    • @Repairinaaron
      @Repairinaaron  ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think that would be possible to remove with the diff still in the car as it is pressed on the pinion. I would certainly remove the diff, remove the cover, carrier, press the pinion out, remove the seal and replace the bearing that way.

    Do you need a new crush sleeve each time you swap out pinion spacers?

    • @Repairinaaron
      @Repairinaaron  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JoeBlow-fo9np I used the same one, once the preload is set just count the rotation removing the nut and reinstall it the same amount of rotations and you wont over crush the sleeve
