  • In this episode, we're going to expose some of the secrets Rolex authorized dealers don't want you to know.
Now, you might wonder why, when you go into a Rolex AD Boutique, they have so many risky dates on show and so little Rolex sports stock.
The Rolex 70/30 rule states that for every seventy non-steel sports watches sold by an authorized dealer, such as the date only Oyster Perpetual, Rolex will issue 30 sports watches.
Now we’re going to break down and explain what these authorized dealers must do and what standards they must follow in order to be the go-to company for these hot manufacturers.

I remember the time when i used to walk in Rolex store back in 2005 and all watches were available, im not a watch guy but i recently joined the watch community since all of my friends talks is all about watches. I tried to buy a Rolex from AD and it was a funny exprince to be honest, they let you feel that you are asking for a seat in Heaven. Im sorry but its just a watch that i will be paying with my money and if you are going to play these games then im not intrested. I might b an old school guy that dont buy the hype but thats me. I see so many people buy from gray markets but the real watch lovers and people been collecting watches for long time are buying only from AD. Rolex is a great brand but so is Omega, Zeinth and Brit. there are so many watches for all at decent prices, you dont have to be a begger or spend so much money on thing that you dont need from your AD just to get a Rolex, its just SAD.

Not if you can, but if you do spend 7k on a watch, you are including yourself in a group or subset. I wish I could afford a RM or Patek but can't. I can however afford multiple models of Rolex and thousands of lower price point watches. So I do, and you do not! I don't hate beach house owners..even though it's an obvious investment, why would you. Hate the game, not the player

    • @jk25653
      @jk25653 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ronmexico6241 I agree with your assessment of the game. I've already spent a lot on watches at local ADs, but that's because I genuinely think they are super cool, all from Seiko to Rolex, no hate. It's unfortunate the barrier to entry for luxury items are high, but that's what makes them luxury. I just happen to like luxury watches and I can afford them. It's a nice added bonus that Rolex, AP and Patek have reputations and high investment value. In the end, I play the game, because the attainment of these time pieces represent a commemoration of a point in my life. It's a nice memento to have as we get older, thinking about good times.
Rolex is a business, in the end. An agreed upon cash-to-item transaction between a seller and a buyer. I just don't understand the hate people have against a brand for being too transparent about their capitalistic ethos. Rolex should be able to sell however they choose and we should be able to buy however we want. Again, I think the snobbery and hate are obviously from one's inability to capitalize on flipping at this point.

This video offered so much context to the complaints I've come across about Rolex ADs. My take home from this is it's a pain in the ass to arrange to sell the product, the product sells itself, and the manufacturer actually tries to protect their audience as much as it seems reasonable to do. I'm not a fan of the products besides the Skydweller new Air King, but man I appreciate all of the internal processes of Rolex I've learned of so far. Such an impressive company.

up til 2016 Rolex was a reasonable brand, I walked into my Rolex AD in Saudi Arabia and all models where on display (except steel bezel Daytona which was discontinued the year prior and the ceramic bezel Daytona have not been released yet). And everything was sold at retail price. Fast forward few years and you can’t find anything on display, everything is priced above MSRP (at the AD) and you are guaranteed nothing. The sad part is that I wrote to Rolex about pricing the Daytona by the AD at almost 200% of MSRP and never heard back. So I seized all relationship with Rolex in 2018 and I took my purchasing power to: Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Blancpain, Omega. Sorry Rolex, if you are not going to respect me then I’m just going to take my talent to south beach 😎

I can tell whoever made this video has no real first hand knowledge of the grey market nor from Authorised Dealers. The biggest crooks come from authorised dealers, you say they can’t sell to grey market but 99% of AD’s sell directly to the grey market or sell to consumers who they know will sell to the grey market. Also insinuating it’s better to buy from Rolex because they have to stick to certain rules and have greater knowledge on the product is nonsense. The sales people are more often complete morons and have no real depth or knowledge in the watches, movements or anything else. Grey market dealers who have been in the game for years are far more likely to have a better understanding and knowledge. Although it may be great getting a Rolex watch at retail it’s highly unlikely in this day and age. For new customers they advise to buy models you don’t want and jewellery to bump you up on the waiting list. Hideous way to approach new customers and forcing them to spend money on things they don’t want. Even if you manage to get on a wait list there is no guarantee you will get the model you actually desire.

I treated myself with this watch for my 50th birthday. I turned 50 on that particular year, not 2,3,4,5 years after my birthday having to be on a waiting list that long. So yes for that it was totally worth it to me. Meantime I now see them listed on Chrono24 between 25k-29k. Hong Kong ADs don’t care one bit except for the need to stock one of each mode type which they expose in the windows as display-only models since this year so Rolex doesn’t even need to go inside the store to check. Apart from that, they sell at premium straight from the stores (and I mean full Chrono24-level prices), they also sell to themselves and resell at premium in stores they’ve opened in the city or to third-party resellers. The AD staff is basically doing nothing at all all day long, pretending they can’t sell “because they can’t replace” the items.

bullshit yes AD cant sell higher than the retail price but they can sell to fren and family to share profit . And in asia most of the AD they sell the watch to grey market and have a profit sharing.that's why you can see the grey market plenty of stock available including Daytona..Rolex should follow AP. Sell direct, no need AD...

Rolex is a predatory company. By not doing anything about it they are part of the problem. The gray market is the best thing that ever happened to them. They should take orders at the AD, you pay full amount that day and then you get a date when your watch be available. Even if it’s 4 years out you will know. That would kill the Rolex gray market. No flipper would wait 4 years or maybe more to make profits.

If Rolex can sell every single watches, including Woman Jewely watches to walk-in customers, it is no need to ask Big customers to buy a lot amount (that they will resell instantly) in order to get SS popular watch.
Last year, I wanted to buy Explorer I SS for my 20th aniversary. But it seem impossible to buy from AD.
However, it has a lot of "New full sticker" Explorer, GMT, SUB in gray market which price up 50%-200%
People who can buy from AD don't use the watch, they just keep them and resell.
But people who want to use it for daily life cannot buy at the MSRP Price.
So, I bought Omega Aqua Terra 38 Blue.

Just like Porsche discovered. The less you make the more money you make. Period. Like DeBeers and diamonds. Control volume and hype the ads. Rolex isn’t even close to being worth what they say in the retail market or even the pre owned. All hype and games.
How often will you see a Rolex on a wrist and ask if it’s real? More than likely it’s a fake. Rolex is the most copied brand of all.
