I recently got the "pretty woman on rodeo drive boutique" treatment at a Rolex AD. The old lady basically said "we have nothing for you, please leave". Hahaha! Not in those words, but the message was the same. She was very dismissive and flat out told me "there is nothing for sale, for display only". Even if I can see a couple of OPs inside the display case....so heartbreaking. So I left and went to an Omega AD instead, and I found a nice Seamaster 300M blue dial, blue bezel....just like what Pierce Brosnan wore in all his James Bond movies and what Daniel Craig wore in Casino Royale...great! I even got a 10% discount because I paid in cash. Fuck Rolex.
Same. Walked into an AD and was looking at the Tissot watches and a sales guy came up to me. When I walked over to the Rolex display he gave me the old let me know if there is anything else I can help you with, and walked away from me. From across the room , and other sharp eyed sales person noticed that I was wearing a Tudor watch and came over and struck up a conversation with me, gave me a catalog, but that’s as far as I got. I do not know where all the comments on this video have come from, but this video makes no sense what so ever. They are selling to gray market dealers to meet their sales goal? Plenty of people walk in every day with money in hand every day wanting to purchase right then and there, and help them meet their sales goal. The owners of Rolex AD’s have lots of wealthy friends that have zero interests in watches. All they have to do is call one of them up and register the watch in their name, sell it to a gray market dealer for a huge profit, then slip the friend a few bones for doing so. It’s no secret, simply put, they are not selling to gray market dealers to meet sales goals, they are selling to them because they are paying more then the other customer that walks thru the door.
Truly becoming less and less of a Rolex fan as time goes by. You trust what they say, that they want to sell to you because they know you won't be flipping to anyone because it could cause them lots of problems with Rolex, at the same time they are doing exactly that by the backdoor.... Dishonesty seems to be the key in todays world. I do truly appreciate the content from Above First Class, very informative !
Worn a Rolex since 2008. Feel embarrassed to wear it sometimes now due to the way the company and ADs have conducted themselves. Disappointed with this once great manufacturer. Now looking elsewhere to get my next watch fix.
Embarrassed? Your lucky and it’s an honor to own a Rolex. The whole point of what’s going on doesn’t bring embarrassment. It brings exclusivity and high value for your product. If everything easy to get then there no value. That’s the whole point. It’s not just Rolex, many high end brands have the same thing going on in the grey market. All car dealerships have the same problem. The difference is the AD Car dealership is charging way over MSRP instead of a car Dealer grey market.
@@Jas-1000 An honour to wear a Rolex? Honours are bestowed upon you, not purchased. I don’t spend my hard earned money on a product and feel honoured to wear it. As someone who works for an AD, this is not correct. I’m sorry. But you are wrong. It may be different from different places but we do not do business like this. We strive to NOT sell to anyone who is not a collector, and I personally try to get pieces for any people I work with. So, sadly, this just isn’t that true in my experience.
I waited until I could afford a watch that cost almost $10,000 and I went on the list. I’m still waiting but I quit calling every week. I just wanted to have it before I turned 50. It’s a nightmare and it should be a joy for that amount. Thank you Fed and Delray Watch Co. for getting me the perfect Sub for my birthday. I know I paid a premium but what I paid was a fair price at that time.
Rolex is to watches as De Beers is to diamonds. They artificially control supply, prices, and who gets certain models. There used to be a Rolex AD in Central New Jersey that tried to get around the rules. Although they were not allowed to sell at a discount, they got around it by allowing trade-ins. They paid more for the trade-ins than their value and used that as credit towards a new Rolex. People were taking a $200 Seiko and getting credit of $500 towards a new Rolex. Eventually Rolex found out and they are no longer an AD.
Forget about spending huge sums or visiting them everyday with a smile. ADs flip the hot models themselves or sell these to their family and friends unless the AD is part of a larger corporate group and has some kind of control.
I was discussing this with an AD a few days ago...popular models for exhibition only, nothing to sell...i started joking telling him that he had a wonderfull virtual store. Grey market is definenlty true. I went into a Rolex store for the first time. I had every intention of spending cash on my first Rolex. They had zero for sale and simply told me they would add me to a list when the watch I want comes in. The sales rep said some people wait years and some people wait a month. That was an odd thing to hear. Anyways, I ended up paying over retail to avoid wondering or not if I'd get a call a month or a year from now. I bought my watch on Chrono24. Other than just going with a different brand, you really have no choice to buy off Grey market unless you have a connection or are really really lucky.

The following is my experience with Rolex. I called my beautiful Rolex saleslady at my city's only authorized Rolex dealer, and told her that I want to buy the beautiful Bluesy, the Rolex Submariner model M126613LB-0002 She informed that she will place my order right away. No other Rolex dealer had this special watch in stock, and I checked dozens throughout the whole US. I was astonishingly very surprised when she called me the next day and told me to come and pick up my new Bluesy. She also gave me a 2% discount for paying by check. Currently the retail list price in the US is $15,600.00. I am super happy with my dealer and with my new Bluesy and it never leaves my wrist.

My wife recently asked me if I could have any watch which would it be? I said Rolex. I changed my mind after contacting the local AD. He said they had no inventory even though their website showed dozens of watches. I was told I would have to put my name on a waiting list. It became obvious to me that Rolex controls their high prices by using this assumed shortage to drive the prices higher. I found several models available on the gray market. However, I have decided that I can purchase three or four other Swiss or German watches for the price of a Rolex. I have twelve watches in my collection and will adding an Omega and a Sinn in the near future.

Apparently according to other websites and channels, Rolex has been shutting down ADs across the world lately. Whether this is something new or has always gone on and I was not aware of it, having just recently become interested in Rolex as a brand, I do not know. Perhaps, and I’m saying just perhaps, Rolex is wind of this and is targeting some ADs for dishonest practices? Just a thought.

Structurally, Rolex broke their own market..... 1) They set sales quotas for ADs based on minimum purchase commits between the AD and the Manufacturer. 2) the product range is vast, and Rolex specifiy a diverse set of SKUs for sales targets, not just the most popular models. 3) ADs cannot (and never could ) make the unit target for less popular models 4) Grey market dealers can, and will, buy less popular models to secure stock of popular ones - ADs make their sales targets, and collect MSRP for the units 5) Grey market dealers use the premium pricing for 'hot' models to offset the losses on less popular ones (something the ADs absolutely cannot do) . The issue is not demand, it's short term over-supply of difficult-to-sell models - Rolex make too many variants of too many (largely unpopular) models, but insist that ADs shift them, so that Rolex can maintain stability in manufacturing for themselves, and their entire upstream supply chain. The oversupply of less popular models is the driving factor here, tied to Rolex dealer and distribution agreements. that said, Rolex may simply take the view that it's not worth re-tooling the product range and distribution channels just to respond to short-term market trends - if you look at your R&D/Manufacturing over a 30 year period (they do), then it (maybe) makes more sense. Well if we don't buy roles and the gray starts tanking then AD would have no choice but to sell to walk ins, albeit they may use threshold in order for you to buy those popular model i.e bundling
Which product AD dun have sales target? Sell to you or grey market is still a sales target. The key is how much they can sell to the grey market compared to you who pay listed price.
Traditional Rolex customer, my family before me. Today’s Rolex customer, not in my generation. We inherited quite a few watches and AD has done a terrible job treating us second generation customers. AD loves those new money more than multi-generation old money people.
Around Christmas 2020 we, me and my wife, walked in the Bucherer Shop in Zürich. We don't look very rich. There we said we are interested in the Oyster Perpetual for my wife. We get offered a espresso and could check al the colours and sizes. We were put in the waiting list and 1 1/2 year later we got the e-mail that the watch is ready. I think this video it don't feel really researched. It just repeat the usual clichés. The sales goal is in the moment not problem. There are no less popular model with Rolex. Models like the Rainbow Daytona you only can buy when you already a costumer.
Is it just me who thinks these are just normal sales strategies? Sales are always based on value proposition & spending power of the buyer.. doesn't really seem anything extraordinary negative to me..

If Rolex dealers were adhering to their agreement with Rolex there wouldn't be a "grey" or shadow market. How does Rolex ADs justify not selling watches to retail customers who are the legitimate buyers but sell watches in bulk to grey market dealers who sell watches ABOVE MSRP? Legally the AD who sells their inventory to a grey market dealer who then resells the same merchandise to a retail customer at a price above MSRP is facilitating selling Rolex watches above MSRP..
There is actually no difference between a gray dealer and a consumer flipper. They grey market dealer may just buy more of the less desirable watches but they both accomplish the same thing for both the AD and the consumer market!!!
If Rolex finds out their "customers" are selling to grey market dealers, they will lose their license to sell Rolex. Rolex has very strict guidelines and this is #1.
Thank you so much for taking your time to clarify everything into details,It is truly curiously to know approximately rolex authorized dealers,I have been your supporter for a long time and I have continuously enjoyed your videos
This happened coz people are desperate and buy it from grey market. Once the majority decides they will wait until AD calls, trust me, in 6 months all of us will get the call for that daytona or gmt
There’s no way gray market dealers are solely getting their inventory from people flipping there’s watches after they purchased from an actual AD. The ADs are selling the watches to them. There is no Rolex shortage because there was the gray market dealers would have low inventory too. There are thousands of gray market dealers and they all, have more inventory than Rolex ADs. Why simply beg someone to allow you to spend your money at retail at that.
great video. thanks! 👍🏻 key information: - there is no rolex scarcity, only a scarcity with authorized dealers - getting your dream rolex is a piece of cake. all you need to do is say goodbye to the claim of buying one at msrp and be prepared to pay the market price (or accept the harsh reality that you might be to poor to wear a rolex) 😜

Why not just get rid of ADs and sell directly to the gray market stores? Or, let ADs sell for what the market will bear and cut out the gray market stores?
I love that you guys are crying that you can’t go and spend thousands of dollars getting something you want at a price you think is affordable. It’s all expensive at any price. Today is my first day here but this is very helpful.
Very good channel, I liked this demonstration, what do they share with us
Thanks for the video it was really interesting and helpful hope to watch more in the future
First time I walked in a Rolex AD,,, they told me i might have to wait for a year or 5... 2nd time i walked in,,, bought a Tudor Black bay GMT Pepsi and asked for a Rolex GMT Master waiting time,,, this time they told me,,, you might not even know,,, you might get it soon... 😅😅😅
These watches are insane!!
Ohohohi i didn't know this! Thank you! Well there is better out there! Grand Seiko!
I was told by my AD they won’t approve you for a Daytona unless you spent 200k already
And now much was the Daytona? Feels like someone who's spent 200k already might just go for a more expensive watch... or indeed brand.
@@Goodbutevilgenius retail, I mean good luck to anyone that wants to get a patek there it’s impossible can’t sniff one with 250k in sales history according to my ad he has a client who can’t get on the “list” even for a calatrava… they has two sales people for the patek side and they don’t even sell watches, they pay them a salary just to do nothing and higher ups sell the pateks lol I couldn’t believe it when he told me but got confirmation on it from someone else there and you might have to buy patek cufflinks also which are like 4k minimum I believe
Obviously a ad can't have ever variation of every model. But a customer should be able buy one.
I love your content very much. I will never tire of your videos. I really like the information.
What do you like the most about it bot?
Verry intersting information about the secret about Rolex Authorized Dealer. Thanks bro for sharing this useful info
I was planning on going to an AD these days and observing the staff reactions , later on asking them for a specific Tudor model which is worth it’s value unlike the big brother Rolex. Nothing personal against Rolex but especially here in London the ADs are egomaniacs with cheap ass colognes and wearing weird suits!
My experience with Rolex AD’s has alway been great. I’m a collector and I get great service.
Great and very interesting details about the Rolex authorized dealer secrets, well explained everything about. Thanks for sharing.
I’ll stick to my Invicta and Seiko. 🥂
What's if its a gift for a first time buyer?buying for a rich person..how's does that work?
Well that is nice to know,,I like Patek Philippe.
I would like to thank you for this video about Rolex authorized dealers. It's very interesting.
These secrets are something else.
Sales targets well that shouldn't be hard to do plenty of customers out there😎
wonderfully explained the secrets of the Rolex Authorized Dealer. Every Rolex authorized dealer has sales targets, it's not an easy task. The video is cool
Your video was very interesting, it is also the brand of watches that I like the most and I had no idea of all the things that being a rolex distributor implies.
Agree
excellent tutorial, you give good ideas, i am very interested in the video, always giving me good contributions since i follow the channel, it continues to upload very good content
Thank you for this information on the Secrets of Rolex authorized dealers, it is good to know, it was helpful for me, I will take it into account before buying a watch of these
Do you finger youself every night?
sounds about right
I love that Rolex doesn't want to sell to resellers. Something Nike needs to consider.
Well if we don't buy roles and the gray starts tanking then AD would have no choice but to sell to walk ins, albeit they may use threshold in order for you to buy those popular model i.e bundling
Thank you for the information provided, your channel has helped me a lot to learn many things and be more attentive and also to clear up doubts
How does you wanting to buy one watch not help them meet their sales targets?
Which product AD dun have sales target? Sell to you or grey market is still a sales target. The key is how much they can sell to the grey market compared to you who pay listed price.
Basically it’s like asking to be shown to the secret garden. Immediately all barriers go up and it’s basically fuck off you’re not buying a Rolex.
Traditional Rolex customer, my family before me. Today’s Rolex customer, not in my generation. We inherited quite a few watches and AD has done a terrible job treating us second generation customers. AD loves those new money more than multi-generation old money people.
Is that a bad thing?
Trouble is they have very little in stock and you have to go on a wish list which make take years?
As a huge fan of rolex, I found all these facts so mindblowing and interesting!
Around Christmas 2020 we, me and my wife, walked in the Bucherer Shop in Zürich.
We don't look very rich.
There we said we are interested in the Oyster Perpetual for my wife.
We get offered a espresso and could check al the colours and sizes.
We were put in the waiting list and 1 1/2 year later we got the e-mail
that the watch is ready.
I think this video it don't feel really researched. It just repeat the usual
clichés. The sales goal is in the moment not problem. There are no
less popular model with Rolex. Models like the Rainbow Daytona
you only can buy when you already a costumer.
The same reason why I'm less/no longer a fan of Ferrari or Hermes😅
My ad was hiring I wanted to try to get a part time job just to see what’s going on in there lol I have only for one watch from my ad a OP 41 green
@@AboveFirstClass I never applied I should have lol
They themselves are flipper if they sell to gray market
Is it just me who thinks these are just normal sales strategies? Sales are always based on value proposition & spending power of the buyer.. doesn't really seem anything extraordinary negative to me..
I had an appointment made to go check one at and hopefully to take one home.
How naive I was, silly me thought I could just buy a watch and go about my life. It’s a whole thing and it turned me off the moment I worked out how they go about playing their silly games.
Even a Rolex is just a watch...
Mass produced watch
That's as ignorant as saying a Ferrari is "just a car."
A friend of mine is an Rolex authorized dealer. He worked hard to become Rolex authorized dealer. Every Rolex authorized dealer has sales targets, it's not an easy task. The video is cool !
Before this videkbghetr was an Ad for Watches of Switzerland. They mention various brands but not Rolex...interesting.....
This video on Rolex authorised dealers secrets is true because they are selling TOP end watches so they have to be efficient dealers.
wonderfully explained the secrets of the Rolex Authorized Dealer. Every Rolex authorized dealer has sales targets, it's not an easy task. The video is cool
explain how hard it is when they have 0 for sale. i would not be caught dead with a Rolex.
I walked into a Rolex AD sat down and bought the watch. Following months I walked into another AD, got put on a waiting list for a rarer model, 2 weeks later they had the model in….
Your video makes no sense, “Rolex ADs want to sell watches but they don’t want to sell watches to you”
So RAD's have lots of secrets but you didn't inform on what they were!
0:59 wears an Apple Watch 😂
If Rolex dealers were adhering to their agreement with Rolex there wouldn't be a "grey" or shadow market. How does Rolex ADs justify not selling watches to retail customers who are the legitimate buyers but sell watches in bulk to grey market dealers who sell watches ABOVE MSRP?
Legally the AD who sells their inventory to a grey market dealer who then resells the same merchandise to a retail customer at a price above MSRP is facilitating selling Rolex watches above MSRP..
The same goes for Patek Philippe...so you customers better stop asking for Nautilus or Aquanauts from the ADs, just dream on, ok? 😊
There is actually no difference between a gray dealer and a consumer flipper. They grey market dealer may just buy more of the less desirable watches but they both accomplish the same thing for both the AD and the consumer market!!!
They are treating the customer like they are buying ROYALEX not a rolex watch. It is all because of 80's gold watches that corrupted the company.
My humble opinion is to fly to Switzerland and to buy direct from Rolex. Hey! Don't forget to thank me if you get your dream piece from them.
It's *not against the law for an AD to sell above MSRP. That's silly. (They just get punished by Rolex for violating the AD contract.)
I dont understand why they cant just produce more watches. Not like their sales will tank. People are begging to get them from an a/d.
I will never buy from a grey market! I ll keep waiting and after all I can wear other watches while I am waiting.
Yeah, too many scammers in grey market.
If Rolex finds out their "customers" are selling to grey market dealers, they will lose their license to sell Rolex. Rolex has very strict guidelines and this is #1.
Cool, know thyself, know the enemy.
God bless.
Thank you so much for taking your time to clarify everything into details,It is truly curiously to know approximately rolex authorized dealers,I have been your supporter for a long time and I have continuously enjoyed your videos
Keeping cash in bank account is way far warmer than put a Rolex on wrist.
This happened coz people are desperate and buy it from grey market. Once the majority decides they will wait until AD calls, trust me, in 6 months all of us will get the call for that daytona or gmt
Nothing we didn't already know
There’s no way gray market dealers are solely getting their inventory from people flipping there’s watches after they purchased from an actual AD. The ADs are selling the watches to them. There is no Rolex shortage because there was the gray market dealers would have low inventory too. There are thousands of gray market dealers and they all, have more inventory than Rolex ADs. Why simply beg someone to allow you to spend your money at retail at that.
great video. thanks! 👍🏻
key information:
- there is no rolex scarcity, only a scarcity with authorized dealers
- getting your dream rolex is a piece of cake.
all you need to do is say goodbye to the claim of buying one at msrp and be prepared to pay the market price (or accept the harsh reality that you might be to poor to wear a rolex) 😜
Grey market price !
too poor* haha and for me its principle and being patient to buy from an AD in hopes of building a long-term relationship for future purchases. In the meantime, I buy watches that I enjoy
@@rich2579 don't give up on the watch you really would like to have sitting on your wrist 😁
I'm not poor lol. Still won't give Rolex my money. But I will buy Homages which will cause Rolex's brand dilution and hurt their sales. I will take innate pleasure in supporting their Homages and clones 😀
@@jameswilson8820 He doesn't need to. He can buy a Invicta and save a ton of money. He doesn't need to go through all this to get a one time 20% return in his money in some watch great market. It's not worth it 😂
I still don't get why everyone says they can't get a rolex. I can get any watch I can pay for at my local AD. No list or bullshitting. Just go in, find what I want and they usually have something very close if not exact, pay, and done
What store might that be? I'll buy one if they have it in stock
Say hi to your dad for me and ask him if i can buy a Rolex.
just sux for the first time buyer that save $$ to buy something that they love/like. just killed the enjoy and fun
Why not just get rid of ADs and sell directly to the gray market stores? Or, let ADs sell for what the market will bear and cut out the gray market stores?
10 yrs ago, salesladies called me twice a month, now it’s opposite.
i’m already sick of waiting I dont think they will sell me a watch in the future , I think it’s ridiculous. best to buy it on the grey market.
ADs will sell hot models through the grey markets and compensate the not popular models .
#1 reason for not getting a Rolex - people just assume you're wearing a fake
If you care what people think
You can tell pretty easily from a quick glance if it’s real or not.
@@YMPUB Wear a Invicta then. Basically the same.
That’s the best part! I Would get real joy knowing it’s real.
Very interesting video.
I love that you guys are crying that you can’t go and spend thousands of dollars getting something you want at a price you think is affordable. It’s all expensive at any price. People are starving in Third World countries and barely getting by. It might be a good thing you can’t buy it at MSRP. Rolex is helping you guys that can’t barely afford it to stop wanting it. Because you can’t afford it. If you really have money. The cost to own these watches don’t matter. They only matter for people that are broke trying to buy it.
If you not have any Rolex and you go to the AD and ask for Daytona or GMT no way. What are you thinking 🤔 They don’t know you. Should own at least one or 2 Rolex first and then talk or ask for the top one. 😊
Basically this is simping.
