    Good info, trying to get some Rolex watches myself. AD told me the same thing, no wait lists, and no ordering, though he did take note of what I wanted with a ranking. He also told me they don't do email blasts, or phone calls to let you know something arrived, and can't tell me if they have stock if I call. They get what they get, and it goes on the floor....which is sad and frustrating to have to stop into the AD every week or so. The store is always empty, but full of people.

      This is exactly what I would say as a manager (and instruct my employees to say) if I already had a list of VIP clients and "regulars" and didnt want to waste time or be bothered by the joe schmoe's off the street with having to take down names, going along with the fake small talk that joe schmoe is trying oh so desperately to have with me since they're clearly trying to build rapport and develop a relationship (playing the game), etc. etc. A very sad reality, but think about it...this is a smart , indirect, and professional way of telling you to EFF off lol. Youll just keep coming in and theyll just keep telling you the same thing; "oh, yep, haven't received anything from Rolex. We've literally only received two of those models in the beginning of the year. Nothing since then." LOL. They most certainly call/text their VIP/high profile clients when stock arrives and tell them what they have. How do I know this? Yes.

    This type of dealer arrangement is more common than most people think. Guitar manufacturers, auto dealers, outdoor supply companies, appliance manufacturers, etc. determine, by agreement, what their dealers can stock and what products they receive, as well as their pricing guidelines. A lot of the product lines that are perceived as "exclusive" are exclusive because of these dealer arrangements.

      Many Swiss companies use a similar setup. Having said that, they seem to not have discovered that by limiting production, they can take maximum advantage of the contracts like Rolex does.
      That, or they actually care about getting their products to their customers who want them unlike Rolex who’s first priority is clearly to stay in high demand over anything else.

You may get lucky and walk into the right place at the right time, but to order a specific configuration other than the basic models they send out in packs, you need to have considerable purchase history, and a friend at the AD. @AlexAuYeung1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So, you didn't watch the video at all. There are no waitlists. Rolex themselves don't determine if you don't get a stainless model at retail, your AD does. Rolex doesn't even know you exist honestly, they just know the AD asked for X amount of Y models. So blame your AD, not Rolex. With the worldwide demand far outstripping their production capacity, they have to allocate accordingly. They DO know if a particular AD has been good/bad, and can increase/decrease allocations which is what the video refers to. Honestly if you're being messed with your AD, go to another.

    1-8: Thou shall not sell a Rolex to anyone who hasn't bought 30k in stuff before.
    9: Don't sell above MSRP.
    10: Don't sell to a flipper, though most of your customers spending tons of cash in your store are flippers.

  • @TomSmith-kc8mz
    @TomSmith-kc8mz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very insightful. Honest question. How does the average person buy a rolex? I want to buy an Oyster Perpetual in the green dial and its like I asked them for the hope diamond. I have the money in cash to pay. What's the issue here? How do you actually get your foot in the door to buy your first?

    • @WatchTradingAcademy
      @WatchTradingAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They want to know A) that you're not a flipper and B) that you will be a source of further business. Getting engaged? Buy your ring there. Valentine's day coming up? Find a nice tennis bracelet. Being consistent with what you want also helps. If you go in 3-4 times over the course of a year and always ask about the same OP they get the idea that you're not just trying to flip for 3X MSRP.

  • @thoneandonlynmbr3
    @thoneandonlynmbr3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    There is only one authorized Rolex dealer here in RI. You mentioned stocking "criteria" for what they need to have. I've been in several times to check stock, get a watch adjusted etc. They have NOTHING. Not a single new Rolex anywhere in the store. However, they have select used models which are being sold at the crazy market prices. So imagine you're a first time buyer, you want a OP or a Datejust. When you walk in there's not a single watch in the case, but the salesperson shows you a pre-owned model that's double what the RRP is. I get the grey market and I get the demand but no authorized dealer should have no inventory, and not even know when they are getting watches in. Dealers in other states always have inventory and I have secured some in demand items on rare occasion. I hope Rolex will notice their practice and pull their franchise because it's not helping the watch community at all.

    • @WatchTradingAcademy
      @WatchTradingAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trick is there's no language saying their inventory has to be out on display. It's all in the safe, and gets allocated to their choice customers essentially behind the backs of the other potential customers.

    So, question: Why would Rolex leave allllllllll of the stock when they pull a contract? I live in Springfield, MO, & worked for Woody Justice, who was the original Rolex AD here. Then another store in town became an AD, something which I'm told is basically unheard of, especially in a city of under 300K population, & even more especially because we were only 2mi apart. A little over a decade ago Woody died, & even tho his daughters inherited the store, our contract was pulled, citing material change in ownership. That's fine, I get that part, even if it is a little shady of an excuse considering the family maintained full ownership of the company. I'm guessing the bigger issue was with management: it passed to a "caretaker" board of three of his friends who were supposed to oversee everything until "they" felt the daughters were up to speed. Ok, fine, whatever (it was a shitty time). The problem/question we all had is that Rolex came in & took the paraphernalia, not the stock. I get them taking the AA battery clock off the wall (damned thing never worked anyway, we just stopped putting batteries in it), the booklets, all of the whathaveyou advertising...but not them leaving the stock. They left all of the watches, with their boxes & papers. As far as we understood, because the store already owned the stock, we could do with them as we pleased: sell them to whomever for whatever. I was in the shop (repairs) at the time, not sales or management. But it never sat clearly or well with any of us, at least as far as I understood.

    How does the order process work for large retailers (Mayors, Tourneau, Watches of Switzerland) that have multiple stores across the country, versus a single sole proprietorship location. Do the larger retailers order per store, of for the entire company, and how are those stores delivering and distributing their inventory. Thanks.

    • @WatchTradingAcademy
      @WatchTradingAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For Rolex almost no models are able to be ordered except super undesirable stuff. Rolex decides what each retailer gets and sends a manifest. In some cases they all go to one central hub and then are distributed to the individual stores by the retailer, in other cases they might go to localized hubs and then distributed from there.

    These Rolex rules are garbagge. The grey market is flooded with over priced new watches and AD’s have no inventory!!! This brand, as well as PP and AD are allowing online speculators to dominate the market, profitable in the short term, but unsustainable long term… stay away from these over priced internet sales!!! This is a a plain and simple scam, no guarantee, no one to talk to, no nothing. Explore other brands and you will find a plethora of possibilities to invest your money wisely!

    That's why I build my own name brand watches with genuine rolex parts and movements. NOT ASIAN CLONES. I'm talking 100%genuine 3135 movements 904L oyster steel. I'm leaning how to build the 41mm 3235 maxi sub. Only difference is the ceramic bearings on the rotor.

    This guy obviously knows his stuff but he isn’t sharing how often these rules are being broken. Rolex can do all this with man power but that man power cost money and I don’t see them doing it to the bigger ADs. Also they can and will sell out of state.

  • @amrel-etreby4050

    Well. Whatever Rolex is doing is pure simple shit. The glaring fact of reality is more than 90% of Rolex sports watches are not found in any AD but on the gray market at multiples of the msrp price. That includes brand new unworn and unsized watches with boxes and papers and even stickers!!!! It would be stupid and naive to think that Rolex is not aware of the situation. In fact I would opt to think Rolex itself is in on it. And they are registered as a charity!!!!! 😂

    I purchased a Rolex from an AD shipped to me at a different state AFTER I personally visited them to establish the client status.
    So technically they can still sell to a non local market buyer remotely.
