best motovlogging channel going, love to see more of your post/editing, been messing around with the LUT packs---easy and dramatic improvement in the look of GoPro footage! Well done, as always
Man!!! how have i not come across this before!! great tips... as a motovlogger myself, I know how bloody hard it is to get the sound right! I am still struggling. Thanks for the tips mate!
Just got the Zoom H4N Pro Black and left it under the passenger seat with two foam sheets for padding + a windshield. The exhaust on my CBR 600 F4i was so loud I had to reduce input level to just 1%. Makes a world of difference compared to a Gopro out in the open for sure!
I use a Purple Panda inside my helmet. I have a Gopro Hero 7 Black. I change the Gopro protune setting for mic to "wind." This is fine for me. I get great voice quality with little wind sound and for me the sound of the motorcycle is fine. I reduce my breathing sounds in post production using premier pro's Dynamic affect. This is best for me, I am not a pro though, but I am happy with it.
Great explanation.. I usually plug my zoom h2n directly to gopro mic adapter and then to gopro camera which have ulanzi door so no sync needed.. the settings I use is XY, gain 5, mp3 320kbps , lo cut On does the job
@@musclefox223 it's Genuine GoPro 3.5mm Mic Adapter and it's compatible with gopro 5 and up I think Or you can record separately ( video and sound ) and sync together in post
I bought some cheap audio recorded, put it under my seat next to tool bag and went for a test ride... Overall compared to gopro it's so much better and there are so many sounds like clearly hearing hear shifts and clanking of tools in the bag... Raw sound is really raw so I'm now looking for some audio tips how to fix it. Also I need some sponge to cover the mic.
Great vid Rob, thanks for this. I've been a m-vlogger for some years but one of the main things that stops me proliffically uploading content to the Tube of You is the poor quality I previously got from both audio and video. Fast forward to 2022 and I'm now rocking a more up-to-date GPH9, but as tech has advanced I'm now running audio from my helmet intercom into the media mod of the GP, I'm still not happy with the limited control over the audio from the GP, so I'm now looking at ditching the spoken audio into the GP and maybe, as you have done, just run ambient bike/wind audio into the GP, and recording both MY audio as well as that from my intercom into an external handheld such as the H1n or similar. I had been looking at the Zoom Podtrak P4 as it also doubles as a Podcast interface (which is something else I'm looking at delving into) but it is bulky for the bike and the inputs are XLR.
Awesome tip.i have the hero session ,so i dont have a mic plug but instead i used something better and something that we all have, smartphone.i placed them as you are at my jacket and its sound miles better!!!👌
I got myself a camera + audio setup for 180 euros: gopro hero white 7 for 110 (second hand), the parts for helmet setup for around 20, zoom h1 for 20 (secondhand), deadcat for zoom h1a for 12, sdcards 128g + 32 gb for 16. Honestly all I need since il be making pure sound type videos only! :) would recommend people to look into second hand, so much value to be found!

Great video with valuable tips, I'm looking for a wireless microphone to use in the helmet that pairs via bluetooth with the go pro 11 but apparently it doesn't exist... I can't believe that at the current technological level of the 21st century, motorcyclists have to ride with a bunch of wires and all sorts of kludges, just to get external audio on the go pro... Sacant by the manufacturer, which for commercial convenience prefers to sell expensive and monstrous adapters, harming the user experience, than allowing a microphone or wireless headset pair via bluetooth, which I believe would technically be possible, unless I'm mistaken...
Great info, I bought the zoom H1N recorder and Rhoed mic, works a treat. You do some good vids, great editing, straight to the point no nonsense, informative stuff, nice work.
As usual some good tips, I think I may try my tascam in the rear pocket section of my riding jacket, although I don’t have some sweet sounding pipes at least it will resemble the sound without the wind noise. Just out of interest did you do some sort of media course or is it all self taught. I am in construction and flicking old so trying to teach myself 😂 Ian Back on Two Wheels
Thank you so much after 2 days frustrating testing, I finally got rid of the wind noise thanks to your video. Hiding the Mic somewhere wind does not hit it. THANK YOU
for my guys on a budget or just starting and have bought a gopro and can't shell out more for portable recorder, even zoom h1n, just buy a fifine usb mic, and attach it to your android phone via usb c otg cable. it will work almost similar to a high quality portable condenser mic. if your usb mic has gain settings, it's even better.
Thanks heaps - struggling with getting the exhaust audio without it clipping. Running a DJI action 4 with the DJI mic 2 - put -12 DB in the menu and chucked the mic in a tail back with lots of padding ,still get the cracks (very loud pipes). Will try more padding and putting it inside a jacket pocket.
Great video. Now I am planning get H5. My current setup is Zoom H1 and lav mic, which cost a bit less than H5. Clipping the lav mic on belt, right above my butt. This location can reduce most of the wind noise, but the sound from H5 is so much better !
@@haisanjafri My recorder is H1, it's is an older model. It picks up wind noise easily after 60 km/hr. This might be attributed to the configuration of my bike, CB1100 which doesn't provide a wind-proof place to mount the recorder. Most common place to mount H1 is the storage space under the backseat, but my CB's storage space is at the middle of the bike and it's too far from the pipe. That's the reason I put an external lav mic. The H1N has new features like, 3 lv. of low cut and limiter, some says they work well as wind noise cancelling features. I got several idea from other good sound quality channel, using H5 or H6 with dynamic microphone mounting between mudguard and wheel. This is what I'm planning to do as soon I saved enough money, a big amount of money.
therefore the best solution to have cleaner audio is to use a zoom and then an external voice recorder, insert it in the backpack as you showed in the video.. for someone who doesn't like to talk but just wants to make videos where you can only hear the environment and motion it is the solution best do you confirm? because at first I thought about the rode lavalier go microphone to put inside the helmet, but then I remembered that if he had to speak "alone lol" or stupid example: sneezing, it would be heard in the final audio, so the best solution is the zoom inserted inside the bag, also because recorded zoom audio is superior to the rode microphone

Definitely very helpful, one of the best Moto Audio tips videos. Excuse my ignorance, but what about capturing clear sound from your voice - How are you managing that once you have the ambience audio nailed down?
Awesome work, fella. With the GoPro, I have a Hero 7 Black. I assume the mic goes into the adapter block, which then goes into the side of the GoPro. It’s finding a mount that can hold the block rather than it dangling down.
I started using the standard media mod mic with my GoPro 12. Not that good. I have a Zalman mic somewhere, I think I’ll test it inside of my jacket. Nice tip.

Yea it’s best to cushion it otherwise you’re gunna get rattles, or vibrations throughout the audio. It muffles sound a bit. In post is where all the magic happens. Am now on the Insta 360 One RS 4K with a Road 2 LAV... and on that, you can reduce the gain to -18dB but it still gets a bit of clipping, and that's with TWO wind socks on the mic... I just can't seem to find the right combination of things, to get both excellent video, as well as good audio without having to jump through too many hoops... I feel like if GoPro could fix their overheating and stability issues, and add some ability to turn down the gain on external mics, that would do the trick...
I am having such a hard time with wind noise! I got the Homen wireless dealy a while back (RIP after flying out of my unclosed pocket on the highway) and tried a million different positions with nothing really working. The cost of entry, for a laymen like myself, starts to get pretty steep pretty quickly, especially since the DJI 4 has no built in audio jack (H5 is currently $250USD).
How you managed to sync the Gopro audio with the Zoom perefctly if the Zoom records at 44hz and the Gopro at 48hz (or vise versa...I don't remember haha)? :)
I've got a Røde Wireless Go 2 setup that I'm going to experiment with. You've given me some good ideas on how it could work and how to bring the sound together in post...thanks!
For recording pipes, do you reckon a purple panda plugged into an iPhone could be used an external mic in a backpack? Just trying to make the most of the hardware I've got. It has the same problem as a GoPro in terms of not being able to adjust input levels (I think), but would solve the problem of having to route a cable from the GoPro to a jacket as you've done here.
Thanks for the video. I have a new H1n with a purple panda that I've been experimenting with inside my full face Shoei. My voice sounds all "jumpy" and shaky. I feel like at times it doesn't even sound like me. I've tried closing the vents on the helmet. Gain appears correct. Cut off any low volume filter stuff. Still not pleased with how it sounds. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Great video. Towards the end you plug in a Purple Panda mic. Is that direct to your Hero 7 Black or did you have to use GoPro's "Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter"?
4:21 The purple panda mic in your helmet, is it connected to the camera or to the zoom h5? 7:54 Can you explain more the dual mic setup please? Thank you 🙏🏻
How’s your audio quality when you talk when you keep your mic inside the riding jacket. Pretty evident from the video that we can get good exhaust audio but wanted to check if it also captures good audio of when we talk in VLOG.
I'm always fighting with trying to get better audio, using many different ways including a zoom 32 bit float recorder, but I still get the best sound (bassy) from using rode mics plugged into my GoPro.
Great info! The downside is that you always have to stop to press ’record’ on your H1. Do you have any beginner tips to record audio? (just the exhaust sound) I have a GoPro Hero 9 Black, but i want to hear the roaring sound of my MT-10 🤤
@@Daniel-dj7fh I have a Triumph Street Triple RS (2023). I use a Rode Wireless Go II that I put under the seat and then hool the receiver up to a Zoom or a lavalier.
I've used the PurplePanda and a DIY Apple mic with some craft fur taped to it and the Apple mic seems to do better than the PurplePanda (not cutting out at high volumes, buffing wind noise, etc.)... any thoughts?
Is it possible to also know the video settings you use on the GoPro? especially to be able to then create reels on Instagram without losing quality and having 4k or excellent quality!
Nice video bro, I would like to record my videos in the same way, but I have an Zoom H2n and I can't configure it to have that surround sound. What Configuration do you use? regards

6:08 did you use nd filter for the footage
Sure did !
4:21 The purple panda mic in your helmet, is it connected to the camera or to the zoom h5?
7:54 Can you explain more the dual mic setup please?
Thank you 🙏🏻
are you able to record great exhaust sounds while also having great voice chat while riding
Brilliant 🔥🔥
Great vid. You put a ton of work in. Thanks!
How’s your audio quality when you talk when you keep your mic inside the riding jacket.
Pretty evident from the video that we can get good exhaust audio but wanted to check if it also captures good audio of when we talk in VLOG.
Thank you for your great video. But You gotta have the media mod for gopro if you wanna use the external mic right?
I'm always fighting with trying to get better audio, using many different ways including a zoom 32 bit float recorder, but I still get the best sound (bassy) from using rode mics plugged into my GoPro.
Dang it! Why didn't I find this video two years ago??!! Excellent!! Thank you!
Bahaha
Great info! The downside is that you always have to stop to press ’record’ on your H1.
Do you have any beginner tips to record audio? (just the exhaust sound)
I have a GoPro Hero 9 Black, but i want to hear the roaring sound of my MT-10 🤤
If you have a hero9 and an mt10, surely you can slap out some change for a mic 🤔
@@Daniel-dj7fh I have a Triumph Street Triple RS (2023). I use a Rode Wireless Go II that I put under the seat and then hool the receiver up to a Zoom or a lavalier.
@@BikesAndBatallas So you're recrding through a lavalier mic?
If so where is it positioned.
If not, did you wrap the rode, and with what?
Rlly helpfull video, Thanks 👍🏼😃
So do you use dji wireless for vlogging and also this one for catching the exhaust sound??
Awesome tips bro
I've used the PurplePanda and a DIY Apple mic with some craft fur taped to it and the Apple mic seems to do better than the PurplePanda (not cutting out at high volumes, buffing wind noise, etc.)... any thoughts?
Do you have two mics? one for the exhaust sound and one inside the helmet? If yes, do you use a stereo splitter?
Good video mate ✌
Is it possible to also know the video settings you use on the GoPro? especially to be able to then create reels on Instagram without losing quality and having 4k or excellent quality!
Nice video bro, I would like to record my videos in the same way, but I have an Zoom H2n and I can't configure it to have that surround sound. What Configuration do you use? regards
It looked like you were adjusting your XLR input level without having anything connected via XLR...
Haha nice spot - bass input habits 😆
Did you change any of the other input settings on the h5? The audio sounds super crispy!
Great tips thanks, one question¿What's the setup for dual mics?
Great stuff, mate, Thanks for all the good ideas!!
Pleasure!
Really good tip! Thx😊

Killed it bro endless thanks
