The ID. Buzz's funky styling might be what draws people in at first, but its giant interior and superb utility are what will get them to stay. If you got to park the reborn VW bus in your driveway, where's the place you'd want to drive it? Let us know in the comments below!
I bought one as a business vehicle. We wanted something that was all electric and weighed over 6000 pounds to qualify for the 179 business deduction. We have a Garden Center as well as rental properties and after retiring our old Chevy Astro van we have used trucks. It is so incredibly hard to load and unload with no side doors. The second row seats come out pretty easily as well as the backseats so we’re left with a huge amount of hauling space. There’s nothing about it I don’t love! It drives like a dream! Took a road trip to the mountains and had to stop once to charge. No big deal at all.
Edmunds is really falling down on one aspect of EV testing. It should include an EV charging test. How about a 10 to 80% standard using their own high power DC fast charger? In that way, their charging curves would be standardized under "ideal" conditions. I'm sure that EA would gladly supply them one for free to show off their fast charging chops (compared to Tesla). When their chargers are actually working😅
I mean an EV9 starts around $60k, EX90 around $80k, Blazer DV around $45k, ZDX around $65k. So I’d say $45-80k for an electric vehicle is common, this falls within that range. 🤷🏼♂️
As a dad of 4 kids and owner of a Honda Odyssey, I really want a EV minivan, but this isn't it. The biggest flaw for me lack of rear cargo room. I don't have the option to fold down the rear seats as that's where my kids sit and I have child seats installed on both rear rows. I need a deep cargo to store groceries when I got to Costco. This minivan is lacking the traditional deep cargo well that most minivans have. As nice as this is, its impractical for my family.
I just went from a 2023 Odyssey to a 2025 (such low depreciation it was a no brainer for the deal I got) and I agree with you. How can we justify $20k more to “save money on gas” with a vehicle that is smaller and less practical? The cost of ownership of a Honda etc will surely be lower, I believe these will tank in value like a bomb in the US. It’s a niche vehicle. Maybe used as an around town vehicle would work. I can’t even get to 2.5 hours to the next closest major city in winter without stopping to charge in this thing. Would far rather have an Ioniq 9 - that thing is huge inside as well.
whats missing in this test is a real world scenario of using it as a family hauler such as for road tripping or hauling kids for soccer practice. There is a lot of passenger space. But if you have 6 people in there, you cannot carry 6/7 people's worth of luggage or gear due to the small trunk. and while the range test is fairly positive, the range is expected to drop a lot if you plan to drive this EV on the freeway or roadtrip alot. like closer to 195 miles of range. Charging speed isnt top notch either. So scooting around town with one or two journalist may appear great, but im not sure if this thing can really accommodate families that are more than 4-5 people.
The base model isn't the pro s. That's one of the top of the line models. They haven't released the base model. Expect the base model to come out in a year at a cheaper price.
The styling is weird. It does not invoke instant love or awe. It does not feel normal. My first impression is, this is going to cost me a lot of money to maintain.
Throttle House review where the sliding window and sliding door both stopped working gave me the impression of a headache and maintenance cost I don’t want to deal with haha. I’ll stick with my Honda Odyssey
The RIS with the max battery is about $90,000 so not a great comparison. If I compared it to a minivan I'd use the Crysler Pacifica because its a PHEV Minivan, so you could be mostly electric. I can see these doing well initially as people have been waiting a long time and it is the world's first cool minivan, so families have invested equal amounts of money into SUV's just to avoid having a minivan. These will be very desirable used. I'd still go for an EV 9 as I know I can get a nicely appointed AWD midtrim for $62,000, maybe even less as that's just the listed discounted price. While VW has hit it out of the part with the styling, I keep hoping they'll see the light about the haptic buttons, which are a big turn off for me.
@@ScottBergerMN I charged at a GM dealership on the way to the mountains of North Carolina. No big deal at all. The service manager even came out and said he was a GM man at heart but that was a seriously cool vehicle!
It’s nothing more than a niche product. There’s no significant market in the USA for it other than early adopters who have rainbows, puffer jackets and Starbucks cards. The real world testing other channels have done has been horrendous.
no wonder Volkswagen is going down to the toilet, 70K for this piece of shit, which family wants a 230 miles range van, can't even go anywhere, 230 miles means you have to stop and charge around 150-180.
Volkswagen propaganda 2.0! The VW microbus was shown in Detroit in 2001 and around the world. Pretty much the same design 23 years ago! They changed from ICE to EV and all outlets are praising this thing as the newest car out there. It's overpriced, it's more a shower, it's a VW with questionable reliability besides EV's are in the headlines with big issues. From materials used, to fires and being banned already in certain EU Countries on ferry boats, trains, parking garages and tunnels.
This is not a mini van category , does noting , not enough space and heavy priced . THANK YOU VW for bringing useless pricy vehicle to the US market ...
It is not good at being a minivan ends today's market stop lying to yourself you just criticized it but yet you saying are doing pretty good nope stop lying very simple compare it to Odyssey, sienna, and carnival or any other minivan today this is a failure in the US

Glad to hear confirmation that 2nd row seats come out as well, which I heard on another review ....this reviewer didn't seem to know
Wait you said $70K for a minivan ? Insane.
I just looked there’s a dealer in Florida with one for $55k after $7500 discount. These will be worthless next year

The second row seats are removable. A number of Buzz owners say it takes a few minutes to do so

Yeah. You are 100% corrrect. But I think it’s a good idea do be like …. 70k for a car is nutso.
And change this normalization.

Since there is so much space inside, they could have easily solved it by letting the second row slide forward!
Saw my one first today. Looked great in all black with dark tinted windows and black wheels
At least 85,000.00 in Canada for 250 miles of range, love to have one but not for those numbers.Outrageous. Not the least bit interested.
Just a note: the second row seats do actually remove, you just need some tools.
No doubt this will be a niche vehicle. Not too many people can afford a car over $40K. I do like the design inside and out.
I agree, this is all about how many they make. They will sell a lot of them, but they won't be affordable for most people until they are used.
Lol. People buy expensive vehicles all the time. Why do you think vehicles are getting more expensive?
OVER 3 TONS! Let that sink in. Also PHEV Pacifica.....
263 is not as bad as it has been reported. That means the RWD should be pushing 300. Definiyely acceptable.

With the 3rd row of seats removed, you get good cargo area but now room for only four passengers.
The better equipped American version is actually cheaper than the base 5-seater in Europe
not being able to take out the 2nd row seats is a huge down side, for those looking to car camp or transport large items
Somebody else here wrote that they are not that hard to remove with some tools. That could be an option.

$70K?!

I cannot understand why there is not more reference made to the lack of range and price?
They are $85,000 Canadian. Love the concept. But for that $ I can get a new AWD Sienna…and a 2 year old miata for daddy time.
Ridiculous price. I wish they would have made something sized like the original, and stripped down to the basics.
LMAO 70k!!
A lot of buzz over a pretty dull car, when you see the commercial version as a builders workaday dirty van it kind of loses the appeal
Not good in cold weather as the range is pathologically low as discovered on TFL EV review.
You mean the guys that couldn't even use Plugshare to check on chargers, specifically their hotel? Take that with a grain of salt.
@@ScottBergerMN I charged at a GM dealership on the way to the mountains of North Carolina. No big deal at all. The service manager even came out and said he was a GM man at heart but that was a seriously cool vehicle!
Just wait when you’re ready to sell it. 50% depreciation in 1 year.
Give that thing 9 inches of clearance 330 miles of range at 60 mph and cost 50K and I’d buy it today.
The range is HORRIBLE. $70K and that range is atrocious. I like the van and all and the looks are great I like the retro look but the range kills it.
It’s nothing more than a niche product. There’s no significant market in the USA for it other than early adopters who have rainbows, puffer jackets and Starbucks cards. The real world testing other channels have done has been horrendous.
This vehicle is not worth 70k. This is not a minivan, you have to fit minimum of seven people to call it a minivan
The batteries don't live up to the rest of the car and it costs too much.
Volkswagen should have been dismantled following the diesel emissions software scandal exposure.
Rather harsh. The company is massive. A small fraction of its employees participated in the diesel scandal.
As a former VW, I completely agree.

The biggest flaw for me is the price.
It must have been possible to design and build it more efficiently, but VW were both late to the game, and lazy.

That's a No go. VW needs to pay attention at the needs of owning a minivan. B.S. don't impress me at all.
Price is a Buzzkill
This is not a mini van category , does noting , not enough space and heavy priced .
THANK YOU VW for bringing useless pricy vehicle to the US market ...
This is way to expensive & ugly....what is Volkswagen thinking????😂😂😂😂
Soooo mid. STyling already dated.
How’s is it dated? The design is an homage to the original VW Bus. I think this design is fresh and it definitely looks like nothing else on the road.
This would have been awesome ten years ago.
It is not good at being a minivan ends today's market stop lying to yourself you just criticized it but yet you saying are doing pretty good nope stop lying very simple compare it to Odyssey, sienna, and carnival or any other minivan today this is a failure in the US
Just ban all EVs, they're dangerous.
including all electronic uses batteries , if you worried about radiation .
