      Our son James does all the directing, filming and editing. He watches each scene as we film and if we cannot see the process clearly enough, we will re-do it to make sure you can see what is happening. He also checks my language to make sure I don't repeat myself or use the same phrases repeatedly (I like to throw in the work "now" LOTS of times in my explanations).

    THANK YOU! I want to make a quilt for my soon to be born great granddaughter and have changed my mind twice about my pattern. I just wasn’t ‘feeling’ either for her and then I saw this one. Perfect! I do not give baby quilts. I prefer to give full sized quilts so the child can grow with the quilt and have it after they are an adult. I just ordered this kit from you along with backing. I am now happy when I have been really feeling rather glum about making a quilt for her. Now I am excited!

    Good afternoon Donna, Matt and all the "Jordan " family, this is a lovely simplistic quilt and easy to understand. Thank you flower for actually sharing the finishing with us today, it makes all the difference and shows that it doesn't need to be complicated to go from start to finish on this project. You sharing the process all the way through lets new quilters see that there is really nothing to be scared off if you take things slower, edging your way through. I wonder if you do this pattern again if you will be Donna and mix up the little pebbles between the larger stones, i know how you love to mix things up, hee hee hee. Have a great weekend flower, sending crafty hugs from Norah, Glenochil Village, Scotland

      @@mollysmum8008 No flower, i am Scottish thru and thru but it comes from my Mum who couldn't remember peoples names and so called everyone flower whether she knew their name or not. I have grown up with this and think it is just nicer than other things that my workmates used, because i too am rubbish on peoples names. My Mum used to call my 6'8" built like a brick bus garage flower which i found so funny. My Mum was 4'10" and a jujitsu 4th Dan and he used to make fun of her height so she decked him, all 17 stone of him. I never thought to tell or warn him that Mum was mighty strong for being small, but great things come in small packages, to which he replied that so does dynamite, hee hee hee. I have never forgotten the sight of this giant, sprawled across the floor. I am just a beginner in quilting as well but i have sewn since i was small, but it is so much different from dressmaking and trying to get that perfect 1/4" has seen me become very good friends with my sewn ripper, but i persevere. Have a wonderful weekend flower in what hopefully will be a wonderful weekend for the lovely lady the Queen. Norah

    I’ve made a “Ukrainian Quilt” to be raffled off, with the money going to Lutheran World Relief. My quilting experience is making quilts for LWR, which are usually quite basic, with turning the backing into the self-binding. I was unsure how to do a binding like the one here, knew I could find an online tutorial, but was still leery to do so. My confidence is still shaky, but this looks so doable! Thank you!

    • @hollywaddell6727
      @hollywaddell6727 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This method, as shown by Donna, is VERY doable … don’t be scared … just check your work after you have stitched the turned binding down for about 7 inches to make sure you are catching the underside of the binding in your stitches. The reason Donna stressed pulling the binding away from the quilt top and “pressing hard” with her finger/fingernails is to make sure an adequate width of binding is available to turn to the underside and be caught in the topstitching. You want to “fill the binding” with the quilt top, so don’t leave any void pockets near the fold of the binding when turning it to the back side; snug it around tight, hold firmly in place, and stitch three to four inches, then repeat. That’s the other trick … only stitch a few inches at a time. If you fold a long distance of the binding over to the back and try to stitch it all in one long length, the motion of the feed dogs will cause the binding to creep toward the outside and you will miss catching it in your topstitching. YOU CAN DO IT! Blessing to you for donating your skills for charity.

I have a layer cake in Laurel Burch cats fabric that I've been wanting to use but, I didn't want to cut up the lovely cats. This pattern will really highlight that fabric. And your binding tutorial at the end was excellent. I can't tell you how many times I've had to remove binding and start over again. On larger quilts, I have someone put the binding on for me ~~ yes, it's expensive but it looks better than what I can do. I will try your method, Donna.

    Thanks for the tutorial on binding! I did my first quilt using your method recently and it went pretty well for the first time. I love hand stitched bindings, but my fingers are not loving it so much anymore and this made it so much easier but still gave it the hand turned look from the top. I was taught to do the 45 angle when piecing the binding, but will give the 1/4" seam a try instead. It should make things much easier when joining the two ends. Thanks so much for all your information and inspiration!!

    Thank you so much Donna for showing the binding. I've watch other people's videos and you explain it much better. Also I think I'll do the 2.5" too, the last I did some of the back wasn't stitched and I had to fix it... LOVE that layer cake set Matt made so I just ordered it!!!!!

    Wow this was excellent Donna, very inspiring and motivating! Your teaching, your son's camera work, the pattern and fabric choice, and Matt's cutting with straight edges made another home run! I can imagine a wall hanging or masculine quilt project with deep green or shimmery water background using stepping stone-like textured layer cake. Maybe a fish or dragon fly peeking around one stone! Thank you for getting my brain in gear this morning!🍵☀

    Thank you for showing us how you finish your quilts....trimming down, making the binding, and sewing the binding on. I have three quilts to bind today and I going to try your method using the two colors of thread. Thank you for slowly showing us your techniques. I use them often.

    I am new to quilting at 73. I have always sewed clothes, curtains pillows etc but never quilted. I have been watching your videos and I have learned so much. I finished my first quilt yesterday. I made mistakes and learned a lot. I have fallen in love with this craft and am planning my next project. When I started to bind I watched many videos but yours was so clear but I have to tell you when I was ready to cut and join the binding together my heart was palpating LOL. But I did like you said and it turned out perfect. Thank you so much for helping me have the confidence to do this. ♥️♥️

    It looks like you are using an industrial sewing machine. What kind of thread do you use? I just bought a Juki 8700h for making bags so the thread is much heavier. Would love to use it for more than just bags.
