    I have had people say to me so many times over the years, you are so dressed up. Well, that is just the way I am. It makes me feel like I have it together, well because I look like I have it together. Yes it takes more time but that is just the thing I do for me, and I have learned that I am never going to change so I have ACCEPTED IT. No,I am not overdressed, the rest of the world is under-dressed is my motto.

      Linda Turner: I get this all time and agree with your comment “The world is under-dressed” and not very well-groomed. Little wonder Europeans refer to us Americans as “Ugly Americans”.

      I love your comment. I am the same. I am usually suspicious of anyone who calls me out for being “over dressed.” Usually this person is feeling shamed by my effort. Appropriate is always good, but I don’t think being “over dressed” is mostly a thing. 🙋‍♀️

      @@rockforester7908 sometimes when people are in pain it is hard to walk let alone "dress" up. How about your philosophy " why do I care what other people think. I'm comfortable as I can get.

    41 years ago I married a man 8 years younger. Everyone said it was a total disaster. I wasn’t . He’s still the best thing that ever happened to me! We are so happy. We have health challenges and we lean on each other. We have two beautiful daughters . Beautiful grandkids. Had we listened to all the “advice “ we never would’ve been where we are!

    In my sixties, I've retained a policy of putting myself together before leaving the house. Even to walk to the corner store, I feel confident if I see a neighbour, they will consider me put together. It's no surprise to hear compliments from my neighbours that I carry an easy glamour. Pull yourself together on the inside, even in your darkest moments, and the outside comes together naturally. Thank you for this inspiring fireside chat. ❤

      I love your comment! I love the concept of “easy glamour.” Why have I not heard this before?? I am exactly the same as you. And as you well know the first time you leave the house looking like hell for a 10 min errand you WILL run into all the people you do not want to run into! Lol!! 🙋‍♀️

    Hi Sandra
    How lucky we are to have someone like you to listen to.
    I don’t feel guilty about having closets filled with clothes. I sacrificed and put my life on hold when I became a single mother in my 20’s. I also worked very hard supporting my mom when my father died in his early 50’s...
    As a runaway at 11, I barely made ends meet working in a Cuban cafe. As u can imagine, I passed for a girl of 18.
    Like u, I longed to live a life of luxury and because of this did things that were foolish and at times very dangerous...
    Thanks to a basic good nature and pretty high intelligence, I used my street smarts to start my first company. From then on, music ,
    the arts and fashion played a big role in my life.
    This is the time I have waited for . I have only myself to answer to and I feel fine about spending money to enhance my lifestyle. That being said, one of my biggest pleasures is random giving. Having known what is is to go hungry for days has made me very sensitive to a persons’ suffering. I myself never had issues with drugs or alcohol, but understand how some find this as a means to cope with their pain.
    Someone told me a long time ago that Capricorn women have old souls and look older when they are young, but get
    younger as they grow older. So far , so good...
    Warmest regards,
    Ana Sophia

    I am in my late 60's but the 2 most glamorous smart ladies I currently know are in their 80's, they dress so well but will buy from charity shops, they have their hair nice and keep themselves active and interesting, yes they have wrinkles but they have a wealth of experience and character.

    • @lifewithsandrahart
      @lifewithsandrahart  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No matter what kind of skin care we use, wrinkles will come but they won’t define us. One of the most favorite things that I love to do is to thrift shop. I love charity shopping whenever I visit my daughter in Chicago.❤️

    My grandma said something I will never forget, “be kind, if you simply be kind you never have to feel ashamed of your actions”. And as a child I didn’t truly understand her. But no one knows what kind of day your having, what kind of horrors another is facing. But if we are kind, we never have to feel shame in our own actions if we find out about another’s misfortune. I am sure that my granny had many wise sayings for me, but this is the one I have tried to live by.

    I just love you Sandra. I’m 70. I had a stroke ten years ago. Lost my whole left side. Got a lot back but still about 2/3 off and gave to be careful. I look ok but hate the Tully look early morning. I love your hair. That was always my favorite style that you have. Your skin is nice. Your attitude is awesome. I enjoy listening to you speak. I wish you were my neighbor. I used to have plenty of money. Just S S now and tiny pension of my husband whom I list last year. I have grieved since that day but going on. I believe he contacts me lovingly a lot. We loved so deeply and worshipped one another. He was my everything as I was his. You give me courage. You nourish my soul. God bless you beautiful. Cate

    Oh Sandra....very very profound advice :) and great video. When I was younger I did look at other women and think " boy they have it all together" and I would feel inadequate....and then one day, it changed. You are right, nobody has it all together...life is tough for everybody...and we spend a good portion of our life hiding our discontent. I think of you as a woman who finds great joy in many things. I think it's the bitterness that can sometimes come with age that needs to be denied at all cost. Joy and curiosity make us want to buy that planner and calendar block our way to a busy meaningful life....thank you for this Sandra....I think this video is just what I needed....xxooo Love to you, Sues

      Susan, I have found that sometimes the more together someone looks, behind that facade their life is a mess. Stuff happens in life to keep us striving, but in this life it is always a challenge, isn’t it. Love to you and Dez!!! ❤️. Sandra

      Oh Elaine! I am a little older than you and I have positively nothing together including in the areas of job/career, fitness, nutrition, social life - nothing. My hair is always a mess since I was a child & I love it!! But having said that, I live the life of a far younger person. I’m a freak, I’m a weirdo…. I am only with younger men, I roller skate on the sidewalk, I go overseas by myself and I devote my life to animals. My place is very clean but a mess & I ‘ve done & continue to do the things I’m told I can’t do. I have feeling you’re just fine but don’t it yet! 🙋‍♀️

    There is one BIG problem with our generation and especially the coming ones, is that - we have stopped listening to our elders and by elders I do not mean WWII veterans, baby boomers...no, no, no. We have stopped listening to our parents, our aunts and uncles, our grandparents - people who have seen a little or a lot of this life... And it is resulting in our incapacity of seeing that life is fleeting. We end up investing our time, our money, our attention, our whole being into stuff (hate the word though) that has absolutely no value, no teaching moment, no edifying power. I do not have a grandma, my dad died when I was twelve and my mom passed away last year...but I dearly miss talking to them, listening to them, hearing what they have to say! So...hurray to you, lovely Sandra! We are here to learn and please tell us more!

    Great advice! So true about moving your body. I have been going through bouts of depression and sometimes have stayed in bed for weeks and this just makes me more lethargic. Once I basically force myself and drag myself out of bed and start moving, whether it’s taking a shower, going for a walk, washing dishes, going out to my garden, just moving...I start to immediately feel better. It’s just so hard to get going at first that even the thought is exhausting. Anyone who’s suffered from depression will know what I’m talking about.
    Ive said it before but your videos are such an inspiration to me and I’m sure to others. So thank you, once again!
    I love the top you are wearing. The color looks lovely on you! ❤️

    • @lifewithsandrahart
      @lifewithsandrahart  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How smart you are to realize that movement and getting out in and doing something really does help relieve depression. Lying in bed just increases it and makes it worse. Depression is quite debilitating and the proceeds from all of my books goes to research for depression and other types of illnesses. Please try to remain active and interact with others because it does help. Thank you so much for sharing today I am sure it will may help a lot of others in this community.❤️

    What a wonderful message! I'll be 70 in a couple of months and I've learned over the years that some people are often putting on quite an act. Occasionally I've discovered their lives are a mess "behind the scenes" so to speak. The world is but a stage and we are the players. I forget who said that. Great video Sandra. Over consumption can also be consuming advice or looking for external validation. That takes power away from us. Going with your gut, trusting your own decisions, and being your own counsel is powerful and is part of the foundation for having it all together. I consistently spend time with myself (date with myself - day trips into Toronto, The museums, the art gallery, etc.) My mantra for feeling together is a quote from my Dad “Take care of yourself. Do what’s best for you. And, don’t jeopardize what you have built for yourself.” I share this profound message with my female friends and colleagues and on my TH-cam channel for women working after sixty.

    Good morning Sandra. Enjoyed this very much!! The more birthdays I have, the more I realize what is truly important. The best feeling for me is to have inner peace. Yes, no one has it 100% together, even though they may appear they do. My calendar is one of my best friends. If I write it down (by hand) I am more apt to do it. Hello MaryEllen, I think today with iPhones and all the digital ways we store information, the calendar has lost its importance. I know that I can manage my life so much better with a physical planner. I think you are right. Writing it down somehow is easier to remember somehow. No matter how it looks on the outside, having it together 100% is a dream! Love you my dear friend. ❤️. Sandra

    I certainly enjoy you pod cast......I want to say that I was in the retail business for 25 years. One thing that I noticed far more than any other is that women no matter how beautiful, slim, well dressed hate something about their body. Most just hated their entire body, but it was consistent through all ages be they 20 or 80. Although the older the women the less concerned about their scars that may have happened through the years

    Such lovely and motivational thoughts from a very lovely and inspiring lady! I loved this wonderful video Sandra. Thank you so much for sharing yourself with us. Your mention of carrying a small calendar recalled sweet memories of my dad. He always carried a small black calendar with him which contained not just his appointments but loved one's birthdays, important phone numbers, Bible verses he loved and other favorite quotes. I am taking myself on a date today, thanks to your video. I've wanted to try a new yoga class for the new year - today is the day! Bless you Sandra for enhancing and brightening so many lives. - Robyn in Stillwater, MN

    Thank you so much Sandra for your sweet encouraging talk tonight....I sure needed your message. Life has kind of kicked in a little heavy this last year or so and although I'm true to my Recovery from Codependency ....I've allowed my confidence to be greatly over shadowed and have taken on a few false beliefs about myself. I use to appear pretty well kept as you do Sandra and enjoy doing those daily girly things like our hair...picking out an outfit to wear or sewing a cute little wardrobe for myself. And, my Mother use to straighten up before bed time and I have the incentive to start that again after listening to you tonight. Your very inspiring Sandra and We love you....Blessings to you and yours.

      Jeannie, Life sometimes throws something our way we didn’t ask for. We just have to get up and start all over again. Not easy, but we can if we let go of the past and move on with the knowledge that we have the power to do so. Resume with joy in the little things that come your way or you make happen. Start living again. You deserve it! ❤️. Sandra

    I absolutely do not have it together, l know. Over the past months, l have worked harder at ensuring l eat more veg and fruit and l am doing intermittent fasting. I am trying to keep up with personal disciplines. The hardest one is making myself look pretty. Hair thinning, losing muscle mass in my legs due to injury, my teeth are no longer white.🙄
    I do so admire how you keep yourself looking so sweet. I am, however, vivacious, loving, and compassionate. So people, l think, tend to forget that l have not styled my hair. ☺
    I am 53 years old and l am building a leadership development consultancy. I do really want to look put together for my teaching training sessions. Ahh, thanks for your tips and for helping me rethink where l am and figure out how l can better my "outlook"😁🍂🍀.You are special.🤗

    Good morning, Sandra: So happy you posted a video today - hope you are doing well! My favorite part of this, was about consumerism. It's truly absurd how new things come out daily, and women feel some type of pressure to run out and buy the "latest and greatest" products and/or ingredient. I agree that if you like something, and it works well for you, stick with it! I cannot comprehend buying every new palette or product. Well, you look beautiful and elegant, as if you do have it all together, lol! You did an amazing job with this one, as always. Thank you so much, stay well, and stay blessed! Rosemarie 🌹❤🌻 xo

    Oh Sandra, another exhilarating chat from yourself. Just love your advice. Sandra, you have given me a new lease of life and hope. What a wonderful and I might add, beautiful, lady you are. Yes, I like to tidy around before I retire but of late, I’ve been a bit lapse and that’s not a good thing. Great advice about jotting down things rather than trying to remember them later on. By the way, I have a husband who thinks he has it all together and he is pretty good but not 100%. He does look remarkably handsome and well for his age of 80, though. Love your music, makes me feel good about life. Much love.xxx

    I swear, Sandra, that you read my mind. I need to act on so many of those "Getting it together" activities. The day planner is so our vintage. I loved and lived by mine when I was working but I use my phone now, probably more. There is something about, at least for me, seeing on paper our game plan. I'm such a visual person anyway. Maybe I'll go back to my old way. First thing on it will be my walking time, then I'll add some more "getting it togethers."

    • @lifewithsandrahart
      @lifewithsandrahart  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gayle, when I got my iPhone years ago, I did everything from that, until about two years ago when my daughter gifted me a nice day planner. I began to go back to using that more instead of my phone. There is something really nice about hand writing notes and planning in my day planner. Try using a planner again and I think you might find something very special about it again. ❤️. Sandra

      Lisa that is so kind of you to say that. It makes me feel that what I’m doing here matters at least just a little bit. Life teaches us a lot of things, even though we may make mistakes we learn from them.❤️

    I absolutely believe you can go home again. I’ve recently done it and it’s been where my heart can finally relax. Doctors will tell you about all the new 55+ patients they get who are following their inner calling to move home.
