Since losing my husband I feel stuck in limbo. Everyday is a challenge but I push through the motions. Everyday I put on my makeup, do my hair, and try to dress nice even when I just want to give up and hibernate. I go out into the world and go through the motions of living. Usually I go for walks, grocery shopping, or to thrift stores . I try to talk to other people and show them kindness because so many people are also just going through the motions too. Every time I leave my house I ask God for grace and to let me be a light to others . Thank you for your voice and heart to help other women , you are a real inspiration .

What a beautiful post Sandra. You certainly are a beacon of hope and light to all with whom you come in contact. Moving forward because you know it’s the right thing to do, even on those days you don’t feel like it is the answer as to why you will eventually be able to enjoy life mire since the loss of your husband. Thank you Sandra! I have Pure-OCD, and if anyone knows what that disorder entails, it's one of the mental illnesses that makes it hardest to value oneself. On an intellectual level I do know my worth. One of my dreams is to make a great companion to my future husband, but I know VERY well how it feels to be with someone who cannot give back. A lot of people judge me for saying that my dream is to be a good wife, because they think I'll take any man who gives me the time of day, but that's not true. And vice-versa - if I don't truly love someone, he deserves someone who will. Nevertheless, I've got a lot of internal healing to do. I also could use some brushing up on my kindness skills, regardless of my mental illness. 😊

Thank you , Sandra. This message was much needed at this time in my life. I’ve learned that you have to care for your own self (physically and emotionally) because, sometimes, there is no one else to do that important job. You are your strongest support system. Be an advocate for yourself and others will notice.

Good Afternoon Sandra, I'm smiling because my friend Laine and I recently had this conversation. I'm 72 and she is 76. We laughed about why bother with makeup when running into the grocery store because no one will be paying any attention to us. But, we get the why of it since it's about one's outward physical appearance. We have agreed that our strength is in our self confidence and knowing ourselves and the accomplishments that have brought us to this place in time. You are a true blessing with the uplifting and worthwhile topics you bring to us. Blessings, Diane

I'm 64, and I receive daily compliments on my appearance from both women and men--of all ages. I take care of myself and am frequently mistaken for my late 30s. I strive to look my best each day, wearing classic French Chic outfits with 4-inch stiletto heels (no pain from them and can wear them all day). I am not done achieving. I have just earned my third MA degree and am embarking on a brand-new career. My life is just beginning! My strengths lie in my intelligence, tenacity, creativity, resourcefulness, and high energy. P.S. It helps to have a very young boyfriend who is 30 years younger!

You are absolutely gorgeous, classy and stylish. The young man showed he was typical. He would have been more desirable if he gave his attention equally among the women, valuing women for more than their bodies. The onus is on him. We are at an age where the real value of a man is easy to see.

To me seems more likely that this young man was raised without manners. Basic courtesy involves giving your time and attention to whomever you are with, however you may feel about the person. I am thinking of those younger women who are equally rude e truly comfortable, patient or interested in an older woman's presence -- they see what they may look like if they live long enough and it makes them profoundly uneasy.

Sorry, hit the send button before I finished editing! Just wanted to point out being treated as invisible happens with those younger women who see us and are profoundly uncomfortable with the reality of aging. They are not ready to deal with one day looking like us, or living with the changes aging brings. As understandable as men who consider us invisible, and to my mind another form of rudeness. Used to find them all rather annoying, now they make me chuckle. Stay strong, ladies, we know our own value, and that's what matters!

So my birthday is coming up, turning 42 - I really didn't envision this AT all and I know I am still young and have a lifetime ahead of me, but I feel sad. I feel sad that my husband's health and addition struggles got him, I am sad that we are not going to grow up together, I am sad for my 9 year old son growing up without his father and so on.

Thank you very much for your wisdom!
I am 32 now and started working on myself for 4 years. I grew up in a household where my opinion was not vallued and welcomed. In order to survive and be accepted by my family I had to stay "the good behaving child" way into my adulthood.
I struggled with even saying "no", worked very hard to be treated well and never knew unconditional love.
The toxic relationships I have attracted pushed me the hard way to get help and finally grow up. I have channeled my "wanting to please urges" into "working on my self energy". It was a hard and lonely road but I can see now, that I am becoming the exact "high value woman" you are talking about in your video.
It is very encouraging. I will continue to do my best. Thank you for your video!

I am thrilled to watch & listen.... finally - at 53 - there is a lady coming up who could be my mum and talks in such a wonderful, wise and beautiful way that feels just HEALING! ("We have to get back living again...!") I am in awe.... thank you! And even: what a powerful sharing! I just left my last boy-friend because I did not feel great or supported during the "C-years"..... my values were hurt so I walked away without any financial support. I do not regret it so far. I know I will survive and one day thrive again too! Thank you being so kind, sharing with us: this is amazing! ( much LOVE from me: just a "Girl" in Berlin/Germany planting flowers with love... ) I feel blessed.....

Sandra..so wise, as always. As far as men are concerned, you can be a woman of the highest "quality", with healthy self-esteem, but, we will still be "invisible". I DO know my worth; however, being a single woman, I've found that we are very often overlooked. Being single will actually increase one's awareness of this fact. Nevertheless, we must value ourselves, no matter what society thinks. Andie McDowell looks great with her silver hair, but, I feel that transition is less painful when you have very thick hair like hers, or, beautiful facial features. Aging is a gift, yes, but it's tough. All your points are well taken. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Stay safe and well. 🙂 Rosemarie 💖

Thank you for this, Sandra. It is hard for me to relate to some of this, because I am a loner on purpose. My life hasn’t changed much due to C, because I prefer solitude, and only go out if I need something. I also don’t care what people think of me, and aging hasn’t bothered me as much as it does some women. I rather like not having to compete or strive for attention from the opposite sex. It is so freeing! I have had many loves and much passion in my younger life, and have had more than my fair share. I am married, but even if I weren’t, I feel I would be perfectly complete being alone. I hope women will take your advice, and learn to accept themselves for who and what they are. Also, my daughter recently introduced me earlier to The Maid when I was at her house. I want to see the whole series, but I don’t have Netflix. Maybe someday it will be available elsewhere. Andie McDowell’s character is definitely award worthy! I appreciate you, and all of your wisdom❤

      @lifewithsandrahart  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

I am rather a loner as well, but I do so enjoy being social. I hope you will be able to spend time with your daughter and complete the series. I really appreciate your thoughts on being married and yet being able to be alone if that time ever comes

Interesting story , I recently got on hormones and got on testosterone to keep my muscle mass.. Well it dramatically increased my sex drive which at over 60 with a husband with low to no libido any more was like “ what tha?” I realized just how freeing it had been to not have sex on the brain all the time like when I was younger. There is a certain freedom to not having sex on the brain lol ! don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it and had plenty of it in my younger years but there is a certain freedom that comes without it. I went back to my doctor and told her , “ ok we need to lower the testosterone this time!”

Tam, I can relate to that. Up until my 50s, I had an insatiable sex drive, like a man's, and my emotions led me to make some truly horrible decisions regarding men. It seemed that I was always in the throes of heartache, misery and suffering due to my unwise decision spurred by hormones. Now, my sex drive is nil, and I could not be happier. How freeing! What a gift from God! Hooray! I am free to use logic instead of emotion in my daily decisions, to pursue interests, and more. I have just completed a third MA degree at age 64 and am embarking on a brand-new career. Life is just beginning, and I feel younger than I did in my 20s!

Thankyou so much for high-lighting this very important subject. Yes, I think we (of a certain age) have all encountered situations like the one you describe..
Some young men or women may not realise that they are doing it and others would rather eat a live toad than give you the time of day. But as you say that
is their problem - not yours!
But.. I hope that your doggie walking friends are intelligent and considerate enough to take notice of this man's attitude towards you or anyone else in their company..

Every male has a mother. Mum used to say that on occasion. To pretend that my being treated well depends on how much makeup I wear and outfit that a 30 something yo approves of… my 40 yo son treats me well regardless. It’s how he was raised. My daughters have been raised the same. We have learned so much about what illness does and cancer has had a huge influence on our family with who and how. Looking your best may just be that you got a dressing gown on. No matter how ill we don’t expect bad behaviour. I don’t expect it from hormonal men or women either. Age is no barrier to good manners. 💜💙💚

Hi Sandra:). I really enjoyed this chat today! You always inspire me with ur thoughts and wisdom. Immediately I thought of an incident I had with my handyman who I hadn’t needed any house repairs in about 3 years. When I greeted him at my door ( hot water heater problems) his first glance at me said it all. You see I had gone fully natural gray from my high maintenance brown w many shades of blond highlights. He usually would flirt w me and hinted about going out-but this was strictly a service call and made it clear if I needed any repairs not to hesitate to call him-lol. I had never had an attraction to him but always was kind and pleasant. But if hair color was that important to him ~I had him pegged all along. I had dinner w my son the other day and right away he complimented me on my haircut and told me my gray hair was beautiful:). Silly little incident w the handyman but it never bothered me and only thought about it after ur video. I have been keeping very busy with even more yard work but feel so good that I could get out and do it with this beautiful cooler weather we have been waiting for. Having new tires and alignment for the trip to NC. So glad to see ur smiling face and to know Arthur enjoyed his birthday:). Sending love and hugs to you both👍😊💕🤗

Thank you for sharing your Handyman story with us Julie. It just shows how shallow some men can be. I’m sure your son is right when he said that your hair is beautiful. That’s why it’s important for all of us to have a strong sense of ourselves. Thank you for sharing and best of luck on your travels to North Carolina

Love your videos, Sandra! Always gives me food for thought. This is something I have been working on for some time personally and I have found that as I have changed it has been difficult to navigate some friendships. Always seems to be a fine balance.

I’m glad to have come across your channel. You have such a healthy outlook on life. I will be 55 years old in two weeks, and it does not bother me. There are so many videos by men who talk about women 30 and up hitting the wall.
I pay these men no mind because their opinion does not validate me. Having good health and living life to the fullest is what matters. Also, having a kind heart makes a woman high-value.

    Beautiful video!!!
Im in my 50's. Ive taken great care of myself and I look in my early 30's.
Men of all ages approach me often but when they find out my true age they often seem confused, then grow distant and reject me. 🤷🏼‍♀️Or they think I'll easily sleep with them.
This only started happening when I started telling them I was 50 not 49 ... lol
I find it so odd that when they think Im 35 to begin with they are in hot pursuit when they ask my age they turn cold and avoidant.
It's as if the word 50 seems to be a trigger them.
For a minute I considered lying about my age but that feels ridiculous. The rejection was really hurting my self esteem for a while.
Then I thought about it and came to the conclusion that a Man who can not handle knowing my age at 50 wont be able to handle much of anything else in life.
I know my worth and my capacity to give, LOVE and be HAPPY.
These are weird times. Good Luck out there.
Women love yourselves the most-- as people make the wrong partner choices all the time thru faulty decision making.
But to the men who reject successful career woman , intellectual women or simply because you thought someone younger and hotter will make you feel better about yourself I hope your ego takes good care of you when you are old and God forbid sick.🤷🏼‍♀️

A friend dated a guy until he invited her to play tennis. When she beat him, he got angry and wouldn't speak to her again. Hurtful, but if someone can't handle who you are, you're better off without them. As in, "go where you're celebrated, not where you're (sort of) tolerated." Life is a grand adventure at any age at which you find yourself, so it's best to be with happy people. 😊

Thank you Sandra, I sure don't feel like I've been "living" much for the past couple years. Yes, it is time to get back to it again! I agree, not taking things personally is key to having peace of mind. As for getting less attention with age, I wish I hadn't minded the wolf whistles when I was younger lol That's ok, it's biology and I had my time in the sun but still strive to be fantastic for my age and any age I will be blessed to be. Isn't it nice to see a famous actress age naturally? I don't understand the filler/botox craze that doesn't look natural. I always think of how lovely Jessica Tandy looked. And now you :)xo

Yes, Jessica Tandy. What a great actress and a role model for aging gracefully. Thank you so much for inviting all of us of that. Thank you so much for your thoughts and I’m happy you watch today

I really needed to hear this morning- not “living” for the last couple of years.” Over the last couple of weeks, I have been reflecting on just that in my own life. Perhaps through Sandra’s page we can encourage each other!
