THANK YOU for watching! If you haven't seen it yet, GateWorld just launched a Stargate NEWS show right here on the channel. Here is the inaugural installment, for July 2021: th-cam.com/video/G_tfX63o0qU/w-d-xo.html
OK, you have messed up....kind of So, the pieces of the Supergate can NOT pass through the stargates, as, one piece of the supergate is OH SO MUCH BIGGER than an Alkesh.......the PROTO-supergate that we see in Breachhead, is just that, a proto-supergate There are the stargates, which can allow the pieces of the proto-supergate through.......once a proto-supergate is made, only that is big enough to allow for the pieces of the massive full sized supergate to come through so, count'em Stargate Destiny 1 Stargate Milkway 1 Stargate Pegasus 1 Stargate Tolana 1 Stargate Sam's basement 1 Proto-supergate 1 Supergate 1 There were 7 Stargates seen on camera
@GateWorld Wow. This video had 28000 views in one day and hundreds of comments, Darren. I believe the fans clearly expressed their interest about talking gate types and their wild imagination about future stargate networks. edit. 51000 views edit2. 65000 views edit3. 81000 views
While I do like the SGU stargate. I think the OG Stargate from SG-1 is the best. But I also really like Orleans Macgyvered Gate. Yes the Atlantis and super gate are cool. And worthy of inclusion within the Stargate universe. But the original Stargate holds the number one spot in my heart. But you know what we never really get to see. When they started making the gate open without the unstable vortex. It just opened in a clockwise direction. When they arrive too far in the future from the past. And there was another version of that I can't quite recall. That we see in later seasons. Does anybody remember.? Great video. Excellent analysis.! 👍👍
Worked on original Stargate and on Atlantis. The level of detail in the Stargate prop was astounding. You could put your nose up to the surface and see texture. A lot of love was put into one thing, that they knew was going to be important. Clean wiring for the embedded lights. Some were rigged to do mechanical action. Superb craftmanship all around.
Thanks for commenting, enilenis! I was fortunate to visit the set a number of times and see the gate up close. Really phenomenal prop and setup ... one for the science fiction history books. Thank you for your work on the shows!
I always loved the prop department's work in SG1 and Atlantis, the CGI was always decent for the time but it really shone with the practical effects and attention to detail.
I always thought it was astounding that the whole franchise is built around one of the most incredibly cool props ever devised, and we hardly ever get any glamour shots of it. I guess it would have been boring to get a dialing sequence like the feature film every week, but I wish there had been more closeups on the prop itself.
For me, the idea of a gate "mechanical" is more attractive. The spin, the chevron lock... Everything seems more practical. You can even activate one manually. It reminds me the fact i have some tools build 30 years ago, still useful, and you have nowadays iphone who broke when you sneeze... So yes, for me, the Milky Way gates are the best, for so many reasons.
@@fujipotato2452 not really, programmed obsolescence is a real thing and you don't need to be a boomer to perceive it. Add to that Moore's law and the fact that the Gates are basically government infraestructure and not a corporate product and what oc said makes perfect sense
To be fair, some modern tools are also built to last under abuse. Milwaukee comes to mind on that front, althrough some parts - batteries most of all - are consumables. Likewise lab tools tend to be built for durability (unless got from AliExpress).
beacus of the space gates manual operation would not be possible. and if mechanical problems were to arise the lantians would have to send a ship whit large hangar to fix it. out of practical nessesity they would have used a design whit the least moving parts. using mechanical gates planetside as a complementary would be a no since that would be not one but two massprodution lines and logistical systems for gate service.
@@rikospostmodernlife Rather than talking about programmed obsolescence, manufacturers simply think of a guaranteed minimum product life span, and there is no interest in creating products designed to last. And since increasing the life of the product more is expensive, you end up with, willingly or unwillingly, a predetermined lifespan.
The Pegagus gates have the favourite look to me. But I admit the manual dialing backup feature of the Milky Way gates is pretty useful. It's one of those 'never need it till you need it, but when you need it, OOOOOO BOY do you need it.'
I love the manual dialing feature b/c it makes it obvious that these things were built to *last*. Contingencies upon contingencies. And, ofc, they were built for aliens who know nothing about the ancients to figure them out and use the network, well into the future.
For the pegasus gates they never had a wear issue or accidental damage so I think they had been heavily stress tested by the ancients before seeding, after which the security concerns were more pressing after the plague
@@xaivierallen4020 Pegasus gates are the most modern stargates afterall. The last design update before they all too the ascension path. But it is an interesting question if the removal of manual dialing was a deliberate feature for security purposes, or just a side benefit. Pegasus gates do seem more security oriented than the Milky Way ones.
@@Dusxio Atlantis had a lot of quarantine procedures worked/built into the system, i think the pegasus network was set-up for quarantine procedures as well as prevention of 8 cheveron address from dialing in/out normally except for City ship gates
did we ever get an episode with a broken DHD in Atlantis? I cant remember, but maybe there's still some way to dial from the gate itself, perhaps there's a panel to access some control crystals? idk, but I found the manual dialing had too many plot holes to begin with.

You can see the technological evolution in the gates: 1. Universe gates: the full dialing logic necessary to compute a wormhole trajectory is (probably) in the pedestal. The crystals in the gate itself store partial dialing data, the dialing remote only tells the gate which segments to read but the gate itself still has to rotate those segments into the pedestal. (The Destiny gate is the exception where the mechanism reading this data is most likely in the orb on top.) 2. Milky Way gates: more robust and powerful, they can handle a much bigger power load, but initially they probably worked the same way: crystals in the inner ring stored the partial dialing data, a dialing remote told the gate which ones to read, the mechanism to read the data was in the top chevron, the wormhole trajectory computation circuits were in the outer ring. 3. DHDs: some time after the Milky Way gates were deployed, the Ancients invented a more compact way of storing data and smaller computers for calculating the wormhole trajectories. They built the DHDs that duplicated the dialing circuits in the gates, pushed a software update to the gates that allowed them to accept wormhole trajectory data from an outside source, and supplied the MW gates with DHDs. Of course they didn't bother replacing the gates themselves, because they worked perfectly fine with the DHDs, and if it ain't broke... 4. Pegasus gates: by the time the Ancients have gotten around to replacing the temporary gates (probably Universe-style) in the Pegasus galaxy with permanent ones, the DHD was a mature technology in use for millions of years. Which is why they used a newer (and probably somewhat cheaper) version that had no circuits for the trajectory calculation and could only work with an external dialing computer (either in the DHDs, the Atlantis main computer, or the PJs).
@@LuisPerez-5 As mentioned in the Video, the age of the SGs are like this: (Old) Destiny -> Milkyway -> Pegasus (New). Atlantis was just abandoned roughly 10.000 years ago, which is also the reason why the "legend" of Atlantis is still around in our age. Also don't forget that all of the ancient didn't ascent at the same time, it was a long process over million of years.
@@LuisPerez-5 the one in pegasus is newer than in the milkyway, and the destiny gates are very ancient. the destiny gates were likely employed as an interim until more advanced high powered gates could be deployed, such was the case with the pegasus galaxy. whereas in the destiny galaxy (wherever that is) it still had these interim gates employed since the ancients never got around to developing the network there before they ascended. it should be noted that not only the milky way uses the very robust and system redundant alteran gates, but also the ida galaxy employed these gates. and while the newer more advanced atlantean gates were superior in every way to the original alteran gates, they would never again have the same level of robust redundancy that the alteran gates possessed. what makes the alterran gate more robust than the atlantean gate? mainly in that an alteran gate housed computation circuits within the stargate itself instead of just the DHD, being able to store vast quantities of energy within the stargate itself instead of solely relying on the DHD, and being able to dial manually without the need for a DHD, since the original alteran gates didn't employ these DHD's before, having them added without updating the alteran gates unintentionally added redundancies to a system that proved to stand the test of time. whereas the atlantean counterparts while technologically superior, were actually functionally inferior. since no atlantean stargates could dial back to the milkyway or any other galaxy for that matter (except for the atlantis stargate), could easily be tampered with by wraith darts by simulating the puddle jumpers DHD, had inferior power storage preventing the 9th chevron activation (except possibly for the atlantis stargate), and most importantly could not be dialed manually. the loss of an atlantean DHD essentially locked out the stargate of a planet from anything that didn't employ a portable/puddle jumper DHD, and space gates were essentially restricted to atlantean use. and lastly the interim stargates employed by the destiny, these are basically older than even alteran stargates and technologically inferior as well. they have extremely limited range compared to any other type of stargate, could barely hold a charge in comparison to the prior two, and were likely never designed to be employed for as long as it had been in the destiny galaxy (wherever that is).
@@crystan230 many ancients lived on earth after abandoning atlantis, they didn't all ascend simultaneously, and some preferred to stay with the human race as observers as any parent would for their beloved children.
well he was an Alteran before he ascended, so he has the knowledge and they can choose to descend themselves with the knowledge they plan on using just in case.
I know it's not related, but No Man's Sky's Portals are basically Stargates. (even has a version of the whooosh) To this day, I absolutely love those things, because it feels like I am using an actual Stargate. There are 16 'chevrons' of various symbols instead of 7, and they can dial any gate in their own galaxy. Gamers of that game trade "addresses" to their particular planets. There's even conversion programs to turn the addresses like the shorthand addresses use by the Show into a number sequence. Still one of my favorite video game experiences to date going through one of those gates. th-cam.com/video/i397y1GyEY8/w-d-xo.html
@@krane15 man idk.. I just watched it and am sad there was only the 2 seasons. It was quite interesting, and i was really hoping to see how they were going to wrap up the "pattern in the cosmic background radiation" 🤷♂️
@@soulextracter I love SGU, I couldn't even make it through one episode of SGA. The actors are so cringy and the helicopter pilot mugging for the camera is garbo.
When I first saw it, I immediately loved Atlantis' gate. Looked so sleek and modern and, as the narrator said, "digital". I also never thought about describing Destiny's gates as "steampunk", an interesting way to put it.
are you kidding? the writers themselves designed the SGU gates to be steampunk on purpose, they admitted it. the entire show was meant to be steam punk looking from the beginning. as these gates were the first ever built stargates that came into existence. it makes sense that they would eventually go digital into the future and also make them more capable to handle the job at hand. however it's my assumption that there are more seed ships out there seeding planets than just the ones in SGU, it makes sense to automate that process, so i doubt there will be a new stargate designs as the other seed ships are doing both the milky way and the Pegasus gates. however, there is a possibility that another race is able to create gates of their own design based off of any of the designed Alteran gates. but i doubt that the Alteran built any other design gates out there. but as i said before, it's more likely they have other seed ships that are still seeding that are the newer design stargates out there. the Asgard planet is outside our solar system, they aren't within the milky way, but they do have milky way gates, which suggests my theory is correct that there are more seed ships for these other gates.
@@mikeschmidt4800 i happen to like these designs for their older tech, i also liked that the show revisited other established ideas from there slightly newer tech of the Alteran designs. the chair on Destiny is a much older design of the Ancient repository of knowledge, that not only allows the user to learn within an virtual environment but it also allows the user to download information like the later versions. it's just to bad in the show this download was interrupted prematurely by Col. Young when he forced rush to get that guy out of the chair during this download or upload. if you think of this same process when it comes down to pulling an USB flash drive while a file is being processed but pulled prematurely, it could damage the USB and corrupted the file making it useless, just like it did for the guy making him useless. and it was also a reason why the chair had all the clamps for who was sitting in the chair so they wouldn't move during these transfers of data as it was set in place as an protocols to protect the user from this very situation. the later versions of this device work much faster when transfers take place, if you recall the first one we discovered that O'Neill put his face close to, had a retractable head holder to keep the users head in place so the transfer of information was seamless without issue. and then later on using merlin's modified version didn't have this, merlin's was a bit different as it had multiple functions and wasn't just an uploading station for information. but yeah, i liked that they revisited older versions of their tech, and they probably had more to show, but because we never really got to see what else there was within the Destiny, we will never know what other wonders are inside the ship, just like with Atlantis and it's secrets.
the funny thing though, the Destiny's tech looks even older than the very ship they used to escape from the Ori galaxy, and maybe you know this or maybe you don't but i found what the Alteran ship ship was mirrored after when it came to it's design, if you look closely in the scene from the ark of truth movie, as their ship takes off from that mountain, you will notice that the ship is almost identical to the lid of the Ark itself when it comes to it's design. it's a little hard to tell because the visual effects team never really did any high res close ups on this ships design, which is why you need to take a closer look at it to see that it almost mirrors the design of the lid of the Ark Of Truth. this was one picture that i created to show the comparison of the two objects side by side. and it's almost uncanny in their design. static.wikia.nocookie.net/5bd657ad-df65-442b-95c3-d41c2562a398/scale-to-width/755
I always assumed the milky way gates were originally designed to rotate, and then the dhds were invented at a later time and rotating wasnt necessary any more. Then the pegasus gates were built after dhds existed and and didnt even have the primitive rotating
What if the Ancients were helped by the Blue Chystals (the Unity race). So I imagined a little fan fiction that what if the chrystals could feel each other vibrations even from a distance so the Ancients asked their knowledge how to create dhds and galaxy wide stargates. It would be cool to hear about such a gate system related lore building episode.
This is very likely, especially post SGU. This would also explain, why the avalon gates have pedestals, unlike the pegasus gates which are just in the ground. originally, they might have had a powersource burried in the pedestals for manual dialing, untill DHDs replaced them.
@@proclarushtaonasat well they actually already had DHD, but for the 1st gen gates it was through the kino remotes. @Ákos Tamás Nováki so your talking about the blue crystal aliens on that sand planet back in season 1 i assume? i mean it's possible the Alteran went there to use the crystals for their tech but found out that they were alive. and the same with the Goa'uld, but the Goa'uld destroyed them instead because they posed as a threat.
@@5226-p1ewell duh, I know, but with the remotes, the gates were only open to the ancients, not for everyone. For the public release, they prolly added manual dialing first, before adding the common pedestal like dhd.
I don't even want a new show at this point, I'd simply like them to continue the Universe story as I think the resolution in the comics was a little weak and too contrived. If you haven't read them, Ancients had been in suspended animation on Destiny for an unknown amount of time and suddenly were woken while Eli was trying to fix the last pod and then proceeded to fix every problem on the ship, making it like new.
thing is, with the way things have gone, I'm not even sure they really can Make a new show, as it'd either be more based upon the Ships Earth made, or just another Atlantis in a different galaxy
@@Voron_Aggrav "oh, ye of little imagination (faith)!" Come on now... The stargate is probably one of the most versatile, open-ended plot-devices/props ever created! There is SO much they could do... And I DEFINITELY do want another stargate series! And I will absolutely support it 100% no matter what direction they take with it! Although I would be frustrated & disappointed if they abandoned the Brad Wright universe; fortunately that seems like the least likely option! As much as I want the continuation of SGU... I have finally accepted that it will not, and can not ever happen at this point. 😵 Although I do hope & expect that we will get some kind of closure regarding the team on Destiny. I think that the most likely setting of a new series will be the SGC or the moon base, or possibly the alpha site. I expect it will be something like "the next generation" with recurring appearances of familiar faces from time to time. As much as I loved the character of Daniel Jackson and how appropriate it would be to have him in an integral role, in don't think Michael Shanks deserves such an opportunity and I don't think they would be able to offer him an "interesting" enough part or the money he would expect & demand. The actor I would most like to see involved is Amanda Tapping. Samantha Carter is also my favorite character and the one with the most potential for an interesting & regular role in a new series. I would actually like to see the stargate revealed on Earth. That would open up so many potential stories. And although I don't consider it to be a real possibility, I'd like for them to abandon them having a primary villain that poses a constant, existential threat. I'm sure the Lucien alliance will cause trouble from time to time, and they're will always be Goa'ulds trying to rebuild an empire, and some Wraith hive will occasionally try to get to the milky way and Earth, and we know that there are still replicators out there somewhere, plus a host of other villains we've encountered, plus new threats to keep things interesting. But I would love to see then focus more on researching undiscovered technologies, worlds, species and the mysteries of life & the universe!
@@Voron_Aggrav There's the entire story of what happened to Destiny, that you could tell from an Earthbound perspective, there's the entire story of the generation of dispossessed Ancients that objected to diverting their civilization's efforts to the Destiny vanity project, there's the fate of the *other* Asgard in the Pegasus galaxy, there's the clean-up of the Ori galaxy, there's finding the Destiny shipyard and the MilkyWay gatebuilding Seedships - that *must've* been automated too. There's the possibility of uncountable Ancient ships showing up in the Sol system from Atlantis's beacon, there's loads more to explore in Pegasus too - once they get back to it. I'm sure I can come up with more if you want
What I'd really like to see is a mini-series that's also a crossover event, in which the greatest minds work together to give a plan to the bravest bodies to execute. Give me cameos from as many SG-1 folks we can get, unless they'd be available for a significant role high up the command chain or being temporarily retired then called up to action. From Atlantis, get me Shepard, Rodney, Woolsey and an asuran clone of Weir that is not weird. From Universe, give me Eli and Wray, and have something so bad happen to Rush and Young that humbles them and they start behaving like actual human beings instead of egomaniacs. Remove all the unnecessary drama that made SG-U "Grey's Anatomy on a spaceship" and if you want dark and gritty, keep it one bar less than Galactica levels. Introduce some cool new characters that will be the cast of the new series. Use the mini-series to finally take advantage of having the knowledge of the Lanteans and the Asgard available, as well as the supergates and salvaged Ori tech to actually do some impressive next level shit to take care of the loose ends, like work your way up to get to where Destiny is, and blow the shit out of those berserker drones with surgical precision and get everyone back home safely. The use of technology at such efficient level and positive shit getting done in different galaxies putting the Tau'ri in a place that finally buys a seat at the grown-ups table with the first season of the new series revolving around these actions flushing the Furlings and the Nox and guiding the Tau'ri, so they can become the responsible presence and the older races finally ascend. The next seasons deal with putting the Lucian Alliance and the Wraith in their places with authority, while discovering new challenges in the galaxies traveled by the Destiny and the Seed ships.
I remembered most of them, I love Orlin's gate as its small and McGuyvered into existence. Though the Milkyway gate is by far the best in my opinion. The way that it can be easily powered by something else and dialed by hand can be a literal life saver
I like to imagine that the reason why the Destiny gates have a radically different glyph system is because while the Pegasus and Milky Way gates were based upon a system of location with each combination unique to the location, the Destiny Morse Code-style was a scientific/general subject system that had a set of dashes and dots to represent certain dangers, resources and other information that streamlined the evaluation of planets that were safe to walk on while the Lantean crew focused on deciphering the Big Bang Message.
To be honest, my favorite will always be the classic one from SG-1. Yes! Call me old fashioned but it’s more aesthetically pleasing and let us be honest! Which one comes to your mind when someone mentions Stargate? However, I lowkey like the one they use in Atlantis since it has the color blue (my fav color)
Same. I mean it's cool and all the way the Pegasus gates dial, and the built in shield, but there's just something about the mechanical gate. Even when it's being dialed with the buttons on a DHD it's still capable of physically rotating to dial. It's like pushing a button vs throwing a mechanical lever. Buttons are fine, but it's much more satisfying to pull the lever.
I agree, it has that weird alien feeling, SGA gates look too much like some digital technology from Earth. Also I like that we thought long time that gates are goauldi technology and when we realized it's not, it was really shocky.
the Alterans probably had portable dialing devices when they established the milky way and the Pegasus gates, we just haven't found any of these devices. although when they had the power to move physical items with their minds, they probably didn't need them that much.
in terms of design, I prefer Atlantis gate, in terms of functionality, I prefer universe gate. But I will always love the original milky way gate. If there ever is a "fourth" gate, I would love to see a more ancient gate, like a gate aged between universe and Sg1 with a completely new design.
why do you like the universe gate when it comes to functionality? they had less functionality than all the rest. side note: i have a theory about the Ori gate, and i'm not talking about the super gate, i'm talking about the regular size gate that we never saw them use, but they did indeed use it.
@@5226-p1e i mean, yes. The universe gate does exactly what the ither gates do to a lesser extent. But the fact that it works in tandem with Destiny and influences the ship so much is in my opinion cooler than the other gates.the functionality of destiny is so intertwined with its gate, that in my view is an awesome concept. Not to mention the seedships that goes along with Destiny
@@WilliamJulienNkogheOlympio i also love the concept of the gate inside destiny. however the one inside the destiny is a bit different from the ones found on each planet nearby. one thing is the gate has the capability that every other 2nd gen gate does when it can dial out further distances of space, meaning it's not limited like all the rest of the SGU gates. that can only dial to ones that are within distance. however it doesn't have any shield that can block anything that might come through, but then again, it could have a feature like this that we never discovered. but your right, it does follow some protocols that cause the gate to dial when the crew needs to pick up supplies and starts the time limit to come back with the supplies, however i think this has more to do with how the ship manages time and i also think it has to do with the FTL drive when it takes breaks, everything is timed to work within sequence with the ships systems.
That shot of Vala's cargo ship in between the gate segments is pretty definitive, I think. It's parked toward the front (the narrower part of the segments), and there is even room behind her for the final energy binder to reach across.
I have completely forgot that the segments were sent through the gate on the surface. To be fair, it's just few seconds shot. I just thought the were somehow materialized from the destroyed planet's resources.
I would consider the beachhead gate and the supergate two different version of the supergate. If we count the gates as shirt size, then Orlin's gate is S, normal gate is M, Beachhead gate is L or XL and Supergate is XXL. I would also like to see the hub of the network which could work as a server room. If MW and P gates have wifi then the U gates must work like bluetooth which see only the closest gates. So what if a new spinoff would be placed in a base where our new team goes to investigate and to fix faulty stargates etc. I wish we could see an Ori stargate anyway which could extend itself into 9 pieces so the inner diameter could be much larger than normal gate, but smaller than the beachead gate... So This gate type would be the L size which could let al'kesh or tel'tac size ships to pass. It would be cool to discover how to dial secondary gates on the same planet with the usage of the 9th chevron without the 8th chevron. So the normal 7 chevron + the 9th chevron would lock a location within the range of the planet like a mini, local network. I also would like to see "chamelon gates" which mimicris the local network where are they placed in any galaxy. Later we would find out what is the agenda of that race who waw capable of such secret operations. And then the hub would also be needed to identify this new ultra-long range stargates.
Technically the Stargate we see in the series was an altered form of the prop. The original from the movie was even more mechanical and didn't have lights, but had actual mechanical parts that would lock in the chevrons.
Yes, that's right. The diameter of the movie prop was also a little smaller. I meant that in-universe it is meant to be the same -- one of the red-chevron gates built when the Ancients lived in the Milky Way.
@@GateWorldDotNet Yup. I think in rl they used the Movie prop but it was in pieces and they made modifications to it for the show. I'd have to go back and watch but I think there was also some changes made to the SGC gate as well later in the series. At first it can be explained away as they switched to the Antarctic gate which was older, but then they switched back to the first one but the show kept the changes.
@@TheTefloncougar Big question here: The gates from the different series had different diameters from one internal side of the ring to the other. What happens if you enter a large gate, and it's connected to a smaller gate? Does everything not able to fit through the smaller gate just get sheared off?
@@matts1166 I wondered that about the much smaller Tolan gate. Does your "file" get compressed? But since SG1 didn't seem to shrink, it may not matter.
Personally my favorite are the Pegasus gates, but I also have a strong liking for how much the destiny gates made my eyes go extremely wide when I first saw them.
SGU had so much potential, I`d really want to see more from that galaxy, but that seems unlikely. Curious and scared both as to what they may come up with. Oh and I like Atlantis gates the most. The way Asurans used one to fire a deadly beam was quite epic
@@badendhappy2903 The first season was yes but the second season really found its pacing and dialed back a lot of that edge toward the more comedic legacy of the original shows. It should have gone on but networks are stupid.
Always thought the other Milky-Way Stargates are not rotating their inner Ring because they dont need to with their dhd, but without it on earth it has to. Well...
I like that explanation. It also fits with the other ways that the Asgard, Nox and others use to dial, all chevrons light up at once, no kawoosh etc. The more sophisticated the dialing method the more efficient the gate operates.
That totally works for me. The DHD would basically enable a "shortcut" mode for power users. The inner track doesn't have to spin to align a specific symbol with each chevron, because the symbol has already been input on the DHD. That would also help to explain why incoming and outgoing wormholes sometimes connect VERY fast (when the story calls for it to be sudden), and sometimes takes a bit even off-world (when the script calls for other beats to be happening during the dialing procedure).
@@GateWorldDotNet yeah, it really does make sense considering the entire design of the Earth DHD is based on rotating the inner ring and we can explain away when they use an actual DHD if it does spin as them ad-hocking it.
Plot Twist: The Ancients designed their Stargates with a sense of dramatic flair, in which their onboard AI would calculate whether or not to dial faster or slower for the sake of “dramatic tension”. xD
The thing is the Earthlings have not figured out the communication protocol between DHD and gate properly. That's why they created their own protocol based on the manual dialing mechanism without further investing resources into getting the DHD-protocol implemented. Now with the Asgard and Lantean knowledge that might be revisited.
I wonder how many galaxies ended up with full Stargate networks. Also, how many worlds does the Ida galaxy contain that still have life on them since the Replicators we're only after advanced technology. And did Ida have a full gate network?
I always wanted to see a remake of that scene when O'Neill arrived to Othala. The Asgard gate could have purple chevrons with runes as glyphs. I had a few ideas how I would introduce that new network with some original new lore details. Like the Asgard turned the local wormholes into deadly disintigration waves against the Replicators so they were beaming through the event horizon (like Merlin did it season 10's Quest). They could also write runes in the air for dialing. Or there could be holographic extension like a map list between the horns of the DHD etc. The heroes would use a new type of ship which can build itself around the stargate as it would literally use the network as a stargate drive while our new enemies would also use the beaming technogy to spawn massive armadas around spacegates. Then the new adventure would be about finding a secret Vault in the Ida galaxy what the Vanir and other scavangers want to get before Earth to activate the personal war drones / mechanic pets (which where planned in Stargate : Worlds). We would find out what happened with the other races during the Replicator war, what Earth can do with the acquired Asgard core, how to act like a new protector of smaller civilizations. And who knows? Maybe the Asgard is still alive... I believe it would be cool.
@@Platschu And why this one stargate was exactly like SG-1? In honour to Ancient. I.E. they were only a prop in musem, that noone ever used. Gate in important building like idk, white house. And in this series they can even try to repopulate Asgard again (i.e. by searching for some "non nazi" in Asgard "nazi family" that they met in Pegasus). Btw we know if they uploaded their beings into some "computer archives"? They had technology, because they were doing "being transfer to new body" all the time.
@@ladrok97 Maybe the Ancients shared the technology with their allies as their extensions happened millions ofyears ago. I would like to see a Nox, an Asgard and a Furling controlled network in three new galaxies with local problems and gate features. Maybe some galaxies were experimentals in the Local Group as the Nox believed in natural evolution, Asgard preferred the technological one while the Furlings could have been mass plaet terraformers. So they all created worlds to spread human life in as many environment as possible as some of them believed the future humans ended up in the past to become the Ancients. But this mass plot would be a ripoff from Babylon 5. Or they could talk about organic life vs. enginereeed organic life vs. synthetics just to make a spin on thenMass Effect concept in Stargate. What if the Goa'uld created animal-human hybrid races, but they wanted to destroy these forbidden experiments and then the Nox or the Oannes transported or shielded these worlds in the Milky Way or they brought them to an other galaxy. So many new scenarios can be introduced. I always wanted to see a galaxy where the Oannes rescued / collected animals and plants from different geological eras of Earth as a memento to the Ancients' homeworld in the Milky Way. So it would be like a little Jurassic Park type of feeling with ice age mammals and plants. Don't forget that Ancients are 50+ millions old so they must have seen lots of climate and evolutionary change. Or what if some races hijacked a gate seeder ship and they created their own modified network in a new galaxy which would treaten the Milky Way. * * * I would consider the beachhead gate and the supergate two different version of the supergate. If we count the gates as shirt size, then Orlin's gate is S, normal gate is M, Beachhead gate is L or XL and Supergate is XXL. I would also like to see the hub of the network which could work as a server room or police station and it would have an own 9 chevron code. If MW and P gates have wifi then the U gates must work like bluetooth which see only the closest gates. So what if a new spinoff would be placed in a base where our new team goes to investigate and to fix faulty stargates etc. They would use a new type of ship which can jump and rebuild itself around stargates. Later we would find out what is the agend a of that race who was capable of such secret operations. And then the hub would also be needed to identify this new ultra-long range stargates and later we would find out it was the cavebof infinite knowledge (= infinite travel distance) what Athena was searching in season 10. Anyway I will stop the brainstorming here. I have got so much ideas, but I need to watch the show and not to write it. I am sure BW will find out something creative.
My idea for Stargates in a new series would be folding Gates which in inactive state weren't easy to see, but as soon it's activaded the gate would fold out in Segments.
I had a similar idea with the unseen Ori stargates. What if they are built from such materials that the gate can fall into 9 pieces (per chevron) and it would extend itself and its inner diameter like the Beachhead gate did. It would look cool to see such thing in the 4th series.
A video about Stargates :) Thank you so much. I had seen stargate universe a long time back and vaguely remembered its stargate info, this video made me realize I need a proper HD recap/rerun. Stargate tech is shown in an awesome and innovative way, in the next season, I want a complete type of gate hyper-digital but having analog capabilities as well, that could create a lot of opportunities for stories, surrounding gate technology.
A miniature supergate, a gate where all its segments store in underground compartments, and when the appropriate authorization codes are used they are able to fly out, assemble the gate, and activate, upon deactivation they disassemble and go back to their storage areas
I'm still bothered that we still don't have a good shot of the Tollan gate or even (if it exists) an Ori gate. And side note, the fact that destiny gates don't have DHDs
Wow!!! I loved watching this. I have been a huge fan of stargate since the first movie. I have to admit, you answered things I didn't know I had questions about. And This shows how well the writers were of the shows.
@@Smurfen249 They had access to the manufacturing process on the seed ship to Destiny era gates when had the most knowledge of how gate and Ancient physics work, were way more reliable to base something off than Orlin's, already had capacity to dial multiple gates in their design, and used way less exotic material than MW or Pegasus era gates. So seems logical early human designed gates would be closer to Destiny style, with probably the biggest improvement to have a Naquadah generator standard to extend range similar to the other gates. Edit: though there probably is little actual need for humans to design their own gates in MW or Pegisus, since Asguard teleporters were shown capable to move MW style gates, so likely could replicate them as well. Which brings up if there even needs to be differences in design between galaxies, the Asguard having moved galaxies probably should have the details in the computer core they gave us, so could make the changes upon request.
@@SnowmanTF2 While they could teleport existing objects I would wonder if they could completely fabricate brand new complex items consisting of rare materials. While I am sure they were more than capable of making their own gates I don't think they would make it so easy as to just matter replication them into existing.
@@rekrn12345 Obviously it's fiction but I would not be surprised if in-universe duplicating a gate would result in two gates that don't work? The gates seem to (or are at least the Milky Way gates least seem to) have a unique symbol on them. That might function like some kind of identifier for the specific gate? If you have two devices with the same address on a network things can stop working properly lol.
Love this video. My favorite stargate is the one at Stargate Command, where the inner track spins, and the chevrons pop, lights up, and locks each symbol. I love SG-1, and have binged-watched it several times. I need to see Atlantis and Universe. Thanks for this video!👍👏👏👏
I would like the next gate evolution to be resizable. So the gate is mostly just human sized but can step up to standard size for existing transports and a bigger size to allow for bigger ships to pass. If most gates were smaller the power requirements across the network would be much lower. Also filming this would allow for easier movement of a physical gate. The gates should be setup to provide feedback of its surroundings to a connecting gate. This would provide info on atmosphere, radiation levels and how much clearance there is at the gate site for ships travelling through. Negating the need for rovers to check viability. Integrate a public communications system within the network that any species can use to effectively call another gate without needing to open a wormhole. More advanced species could utilize this network to piggyback their own encrypted network. I think each world with a gate should also have multiple teleport sites. Perhaps some worlds have a space gate and the teleport sites grab you and transmit you via the space gate. A bit like the gate bridge idea I guess. If you wanted to make it more complicated you could have the system allow travel via the same method in reverse so you don't end up at the gate itself. These sites could simply be a pillar out of the ground. Again this would make for much easier filming! There should be an emergency system that allows one gate to connect to a powerless gate and recharge it. I think we are done with push buttons. A new interface would be good. Holographic GUI would be a good way to go. All gates are suddenly listed in a public forum that I would start two new series off. Let me set the scene... someone stumbles upon the ancients unfinished SG update project. They had started things off but never gave the deploy command. Its activated and it instantly pings the network first getting all the current addresses and starts sending deployment devices through gates. They deploy the new gate and harvest the old which is either destroyed or sent back to the upgrade facility. Earth's gate is overidden in a way that the iris won't open and not only is the gate updated the telepads are placed indiscriminately around the world so many countries suddenly can go offworld. Worlds that are more populated seem to get more telepads. Have it happen at such a fast speed that no species has the chance to have a say in the matter. And suddenly the entire galaxy has easier access to gate travel even some of the scum of Earth. Now your running into familiar threats across the galaxy. New criminal groups and corperations begin to emerge after alien tech starts to change everything. Each series follows diff groups antics in the same time period. One would be SGC the other would be a team from a new private firm that has its own morals and objectives. Maybe its good maybe its bad you just can't tell sometimes. It has run ins with the SGC who are now trying to maintain order in the galaxy. Cross over eps where the same story is on both series but shows details differently on each show based on the skill of those reading the scene. Also each series makes the other out to be the bad guys. But they team up against other threats as the need arises. Grudgingly. The SGC tries to be as nice as possible but its always read wrong by the others. SGC is reaping the rewards of Earth's new surge of alien tech inspired creations with updated gear and facilities as they get proper backing. The other series would far more simple gear and a diff approach to skill sets and team size than the SGC. They should lose people on every other mission. I would update the ships with some variation on the current SG tech. Smaller ships like puddle jumper size have a trick to give them more size. Using teleporter and gate tech they temporarily undeploy their external framework and store it during gate travel. Basically anything that doesnt fit through a gate. Once on the other side it beams it back into position on the other side. This allows for more diverse ships and functionality but they are vulnerable while transitioning. New tech includes 3d printing with teleporter tech for faster deployment of new designs. Some SGC eps would be them just testing and reacting to the new tech thats on the market before it can be approved for sale. If you have read this far then congrats. If you can't tell I've run this thought project before. Nice to get it down somewhere lol. I'll leave it at that ;)
They definitely did, though we never saw their standard-sized Stargates. I imagine they look like a larger version of one of their transport rings -- smooth and rounded, with ornate cursive runes.
@@goku48071 With the Ori being dead it would be interesting to check back in on their galaxy. Could have easily been the next plot for the show as well or even an idea for a new series.
@@GateWorldDotNet that's what i have been telling ppl. as this is the most likely design and look that i would expect from the Ori. although i think the gate would have the colors of gold and silver mixed into the design and the cursive runes would light up with a bright white or gold looking esthetic while it was being dialed. at least that's how i pictured their gate in my head. funny enough that same design reminds me of the one ring to rule them all lol. cdn3.movieweb.com/i/article/dy9QSa004sDg3NpTtVsdBpwAV8paqH/1200:100/Lord-Of-The-Rings-Amazon-Series-Cast-Additions.jpg only more like a stargate, and less like a ring. but with the design direction it makes complete sense that this is what it would look like.
If there's ever a 4th series that needs a new style of gate, there are lots of new features I'd like to see: * Chevron lights that illuminate in different colors depending on whether it's an incoming or outgoing wormhole, or something is wrong with the wormhole - say, green for incoming, blue for outgoing, and red for danger. And maybe purple and orange for incoming/outgoing intergalactic wormholes. * Chevrons with some kind of display; when the gate is dialed, the symbols locked into each chevron are displayed on the chevron itself (when idle, it should look like plain metal, then light up with the glyph during dialing) * Gates made of modular segments that can be taken apart and assembled in different sizes; this would allow broken gates to be fixed by swapping out damaged segments, or even removing damaged segments and closing the gaps to accept incoming wormholes (if a chevron segment is broken, it can't dial out, until someone like Sam Carter comes up with a brilliant technobabble way to save a stranded team) * Physical controls on each chevron segment to allow for manual glyph selection (i.e. manual dialing) * With enough power, the modular gate segments should be able to expand the distance between them, like the Orii supergate, to allow for larger travelers to go through - this would allow more Earth vehicles and equipment to travel through the gate without disassembly (I never understood why SG teams didn't take ATVs or motorcycles through on recon missions, they would have fit through the series gate). * The segments should also collapse together in a small enough package for easy transport through the standard short-range transport rings, and incorporate anti-gravity capability so a single person can move a collapsed gate around, pushing it like a palette jack * The gates themselves should be able to establish two-way visual communication, in effect becoming giant video phones - but only if the system is activated by both sides (though again, clever good guys or bad guys could hack the system to spy through an active wormhole) * All gates should have a standard flat base, so they don't need to be embedded in the ground or a pedestal to stand upright, and all nine chevrons can be seen * The DHD should be incorporated into the base of each gate, not a separate mobile unit; and it should be really small, like the control podium in Atlantis' hologram room * The DHD should have more than just the dialing glyphs, it should be a console able to control all the functions of the new gates - dialing, expansion/contraction, mobility, communication, force field irises (not all gates should have force fields, only special locations)
The Stargate aesthetic would depend on the timesetting of its initial construction. I always liked the idea of a smaller colapseable stargate that could be set up by an advance reconnaissance team for early colonization efforts. I also like the idea of a beamgate(a mini stargate purpose built to relay a matter stream from something like an Asgard teleporter). It could enable interplanetary, interstellar, or 3ven intergalactic beaming. Another thing I would have liked to see would have been a maglev rail enabled stargate to accommodate gate trains for lack of a better term. GOD, I have too much free time! LOL
I so got to get the original shows and movies just to thoroughly enjoy Stargate from beginning to end/hiatus. The prop is recognisable and it's always interesting to see how it works in this video. I for one think Stargate definitely needs another series and some more love via DVD/Blu-Ray re-releases and streaming. Love to see a video about the Ancient Starship Destiny someday.
OMG, this just popped on my recommended list! I watched Stargate from the very beginning, now that time as passed, I think I should start watching SG again, even though I am pretty Ancient now :P
I'm such a Stargate nerd that I was able to name all 6 types of gate. The Supergate was pretty easy to remember because it was in multiple episodes, including "The Pegasus Project" where they connected it to a black hole.
I forgot about the Tollan stargate, but I counted the original film gate as a different design. It had that open space at the top, and each chevron would lock when its symbol was centered in the bracket. I think a stargate probably doesn’t necessarily reverse with every symbol, it depends on whether the next symbol is closer clockwise or counterclockwise to the next chevron, but I could be wrong.
It should be mentioned that the different Ancient designs of the gates are incompatible with one another. When building the McKay-Carter Intergalactic Bridge out of some spare gates they found on uninhabited planets (or around them), they had to create the Midway Station halfway between Milky Way and Pegasus in order to exit one set of gates and enter another since the wormhole wouldn’t jump between the two designs. Plus the address systems were different
I always believed it was a range issue, that bridge was on the outer limit of what a 7 symbol address could reach for both galaxies. It's like a bus station, instead of paying a taxi to do a 8 symbol direct jump you instead catch a bus to the edge of one bus network, get off and then get on a bus from the other network
Okay but how could Earth directly dial Atlantis in the first place? That's how they got there. And as far as I remember the issue wasn't compatibility but the lack of energy, there were not enough useable ZPMs to charge the gates for a direct connection.
@@lorinctoth9402 didn’t the gate in question also have a special control crystal that allowed for intergalactic dialing. Maybe it also makes the two systems compatible
@@artembentsionov Well, these are just theories, as far as I'm concered, I go with what I know from the show. Although it's possible I forgot some things, but the lack of power still makes more sense to me
The midstation is about incompatibility of coordinates. There is a set of Pegasus gate to be able to go further than what can be done with a single date without zpm and then you need a way to change from Pegasus constellation coordinates to milky way constellations coordinates. Then another set of milky way gates to be able to do a big distance without needing a zpm.
my favorite gate is the stargate movie gate the extra moving parts and the fact the each symbol is locked at their respective cheveron rather than just the 7th one every time. a new gate i would like to see would be a digital/analog mix of the movie gate and the atlantis gate. with a prismatic(not to be confused with chromatic) grayscale base theme.
That change in how the gate dialed from the movie to SG-1 was totally unnecessary. I don't understand why they did that, it doesn't make any sense. The inner ring should rotate the glyph being encoded to the respective chevron where it is locked.
@@DJJonPattrsn22 i felt like their desire to add lights(or at least visible lights?) and keep the prop cheap is what drove them to downgrade it. but if the show somehow gets revived i do not see why they could not just put lights on the movie gate and use that design. here is to hoping.
Honestly, I really want to see super gates get implementation for more convenient intergalactic travel, just imagine going from the Milky Way to the Pegasus Galaxy by ship in seconds rather than several days.
I guess one of the more intersting Ideas for a show spinoff might be a Galexy wide war with the Milkyway stargate network fragmenting into multiple gate networks, Encripting large sections of the Network due to The Lucian Alliance?... perhaps The Furlings... or someone else?
I'd love to see the fanfic ROTA Stargate network come to fruition, but of the 6 here, I love the Atlantis gates. You also missed the v1 gate from the original film, which didn't have illuminated chevrons
It's a different prop, you're right. But in-universe it is obviously meant to be the same as any other Milky Way gate -- which is why I didn't dwell on it. Thanks for watching!
but pls not the crap like unsivers and the what came after it ........ What the most Stargate fans want is to know what is with antlantis ... last its land near san franzsico
Considered "in verse", there's a very simple explanation. First, consider that gates don't have to spin. Aside from the Pegasus gates, we also have the small gate that Orlin built. True, you could say that it was a purpose built gate for a single destination, but still... it didn't spin. More importantly, we have more than one incident of the SGC gate connecting without spinning. In fact, we have Lya (of the Nox) creating a wormhole without even a kawhoosh. It seems to me that we might just be looking at an aesthetic choice, where the "spinning", whether actual (SGC) or virtual (Atlantis) is not meaningfully different than the progress bar or "rolling donut" we see all the time on our computers. The Milky Way gates could be seen as a dial telephone and the Pegasus gates as touch-tone. And the Destiny gates...? No good reason for embellishments and a desire for fewer moving parts. (For reliability)
I've always imagined that VERY early stargates where huge things much larger than the gates we know. Something like the mass effect relays in the game Mass effect. I'd love to see some story telling around such early "proto-gates".
I am watching Atlantis for the first time. I tried when it was first on-air, but couldn't get into it. Now I am really surprised at how good it is. Too bad there are only 5 seasons. I am up to the episode where Dr. Bekett has been killed. Is it just me or does Tayla look like Jennifer Lopez?
The Ori area wasn't part of the milky way or pegasus galaxies so that would be one more. And in the feature film we know that earth and abidos had different gates
That was retconned for the show. In the film universe, each gate has different symbols entirely because the planets are in different galaxies. In the show universe, every milky way Stargate has the same symbols because they're all in the same galaxy.
I would love to see a Stargate made from liquid Naquadria. It could be completely hidden when inactive, and form itself into a ring when needed, a bit like a T-1000. That would be cool. And it would make it very powerfull from a lore perspective.
It would also make it impossible to dial manually and deadly if it were inactive also naquadria is incredibly unstable and the more energy that gets put in the less stable it gets so that "gate" would probably explode the second it was powered. But if they could find a way it would be most interesting
@@Sephirothstrife-yk8en that could also be a safety feature. The gate could only be controlled by special systems. And a loss of control or tampering by an enemy would "naturally" Cause the gate to destroy itself and anything in the area.
Maybe as an idea to wrap up sgu they could use Atlantis to send a signal to seed ships to update them so they start making Pegasus style gates or a newer version using Asgard/ancient/earth tech
Maybe but at the end of SGA, Atlantis was on Earth. On a side note I would guess that that would make them the default gate, meaning stargate command would be desolved or absorbed by the international stargate group.
This makes no sense and wouldn't work. The seed ships convert resources they harvest from the planets they encounter to create a specific type of gate. You can't just build another one with the tools you already designed to build a specific model. Also my theory is that the Destiny Gates are actually the 2nd Gates to have ever been built, and they have been built to use as less resources as possible to make it possible for the seed ships to place as much of them as they can. That's the reason, they are only partially made up of naquadah and have a way shorter range.
There's a Stargate novel (I forget the name of it as I haven't read it, just read a summary on the internet) where Stargate Command fly Atlantis back to the Pegasus galaxy. They land it on a different ocean world so the surviving Wraith don't know where they are. Don't know if it's canon or not.
I’ve always had an issue with the gates that were partially buried/built into the deck, or ground. There have been a number of episodes, and movies, that show the destructive nature of the “big swoosh” that comes out. At one point, it burns a hole in the side of a ship, and has cut people in half before. How can there be any buried section, once the swoosh pops out?
I don't remember all of those kind of gates, but the swoosh that comes out in a conical form and not cylindrical. So, if there's enough space outside the conical swoosh, it should be safe. But if there are gates where things in the conical swoosh survives, yes it's a mistake. Maybe they thought it might have been too minor or expensive to fix it.
Good observation, and technically the S.G.C. gate would be no different, since the inner area of the gate is set down a bit into the steel ramp. If the kawoosh occupied the entirety of the inner area of the Stargate it would destroy the ramp every time it activates. If you look closely at the kawoosh, though, you'll see that it only extends outward from the very center of the gate. So there is a little bit of clearance all the way around.
Yeah, it would make more sense if there was a gap in the deck the approx depth of the event horizon. This usually wasn't present but as mentioned by @Jithin Jacob the swoosh normally exited the gate in a conical fashion close to the centre of the gate. In some episodes the gate vortex was used for sacrifice/execution/suicide. I specifically remember the episode where SG-1 first encountered destroyer of worlds that the guy who essentially died by suicide has his smouldering feet left in place after the gate shut down. Ouch
If you look at the Ark movie, when they get to the tanker/ship, and there’s a HUGE hole in the side, it’s almost perfectly straight out from the gate, and appears to be very close to the same diameter. Now, having said all these things, I’m STILL a HUGE fan of the series, and the movies. I’ll suspend my disbelief long enough to bing watch all 10 seasons, AND the original movie, AND the other Stargate movies as well. Sadly though, I kind of didn’t like Atlantis, or SGU very much. I guess I’m just an old guy, and didn’t like THAT much change in the show…. Sorry gang…. 😕

"RED chevrons"??? Try orange.
I guess it would have been boring to get a dialing sequence like the feature film every week, but I wish there had been more closeups on the prop itself.
much love to you for that, was my childhood
A benefit of a successful show.
For me, the idea of a gate "mechanical" is more attractive. The spin, the chevron lock... Everything seems more practical. You can even activate one manually. It reminds me the fact i have some tools build 30 years ago, still useful, and you have nowadays iphone who broke when you sneeze... So yes, for me, the Milky Way gates are the best, for so many reasons.
you sound like a real boomer lol
You can see the technological evolution in the gates:
1. Universe gates: the full dialing logic necessary to compute a wormhole trajectory is (probably) in the pedestal. The crystals in the gate itself store partial dialing data, the dialing remote only tells the gate which segments to read but the gate itself still has to rotate those segments into the pedestal. (The Destiny gate is the exception where the mechanism reading this data is most likely in the orb on top.)
Sure but aren't the ones on Pegasus and Destiny older than the ones in the Milky Way
@@LuisPerez-5 As mentioned in the Video, the age of the SGs are like this: (Old) Destiny -> Milkyway -> Pegasus (New).
@@crystan230 many ancients lived on earth after abandoning atlantis, they didn't all ascend simultaneously,

Well, the SG-1 writers did use it when talking about building their own replacement for a DHD...
well he was an Alteran before he ascended, so he has the knowledge and they can choose to descend themselves with the knowledge they plan on using just in case.

The Gate I'm looking forward to is the Gate built by the Tauri.
That would be interesting ngl
Probably would have emojis around the ring and use a iPhone to dial it
My head canon has them building super gates to get to Destiny.

The actors are so cringy and the helicopter pilot mugging for the camera is garbo.
The Destiny should be nearing that next galaxy by now… 😂
When I first saw it, I immediately loved Atlantis' gate. Looked so sleek and modern and, as the narrator said, "digital". I also never thought about describing Destiny's gates as "steampunk", an interesting way to put it.
Only one that doesn't have a spinning ring. :)
are you kidding? the writers themselves designed the SGU gates to be steampunk on purpose, they admitted it.
the entire show was meant to be steam punk looking from the beginning. as these gates were the first ever built stargates that came into existence.
it makes sense that they would eventually go digital into the future and also make them more capable to handle the job at hand.
however it's my assumption that there are more seed ships out there seeding planets than just the ones in SGU, it makes sense to automate that process, so i doubt there will be a new stargate designs as the other seed ships are doing both the milky way and the Pegasus gates.
however, there is a possibility that another race is able to create gates of their own design based off of any of the designed Alteran gates.
but i doubt that the Alteran built any other design gates out there. but as i said before, it's more likely they have other seed ships that are still seeding that are the newer design stargates out there.
the Asgard planet is outside our solar system, they aren't within the milky way, but they do have milky way gates, which suggests my theory is correct that there are more seed ships for these other gates.
They started the steam punk craze.

i happen to like these designs for their older tech, i also liked that the show revisited other established ideas from there slightly newer tech of the Alteran designs.
the chair on Destiny is a much older design of the Ancient repository of knowledge, that not only allows the user to learn within an virtual environment but it also allows the user to download information like the later versions.
it's just to bad in the show this download was interrupted prematurely by Col.

@@Voron_Aggrav "oh, ye of little imagination (faith)!"
Come on now...
Although I do hope & expect that we will get some kind of closure regarding the team on Destiny.

I didn't know there were comics before now... Thanks i guess.
And it literally was
I like to imagine that the reason why the Destiny gates have a radically different glyph system is because while the Pegasus and Milky Way gates were based upon a system of location with each combination unique to the location, the Destiny Morse Code-style was a scientific/general subject system that had a set of dashes and dots to represent certain dangers, resources and other information that streamlined the evaluation of planets that were safe to walk on while the Lantean crew focused on deciphering the Big Bang Message.
Ngl I'm the same way. I adore the Milky Way gate and its mechanical inner ring, but I love the blue chevrons on the Atlantis Gate.
Love the Pegasus gate! But the SGU gate has the most useful shtick ever - portable dialing devices.
the Alterans probably had portable dialing devices when they established the milky way and the Pegasus gates, we just haven't found any of these devices.
although when they had the power to move physical items with their minds, they probably didn't need them that much.
@@5226-p1e out of 15 seasons I kinda think if they had it our guys would've found one already.

in terms of design, I prefer Atlantis gate, in terms of functionality, I prefer universe gate.
Not to mention the seedships that goes along with Destiny

i also love the concept of the gate inside destiny. however the one inside the destiny is a bit different from the ones found on each planet nearby.
one thing is the gate has the capability that every other 2nd gen gate does when it can dial out further distances of space, meaning it's not limited like all the rest of the SGU gates. that can only dial to ones that are within distance.
however it doesn't have any shield that can block anything that might come through, but then again, it could have a feature like this that we never discovered.
but your right, it does follow some protocols that cause the gate to dial when the crew needs to pick up supplies and starts the time limit to come back with the supplies, however i think this has more to do with how the ship manages time and i also think it has to do with the FTL drive when it takes breaks, everything is timed to work within sequence with the ships systems.
I liked the Destiny gate sound effects. The whole "womp" like sound when it lights up.
I never noticed the spacegate segments were too big to fit through a regular stargate. Yep, they cheated.😁👍
Edit: Changed "it" to "fit"
I'm not convinced they are bigger than the gates hole, it may have been a perspective issue but I'll have to go bake & watch it
That shot of Vala's cargo ship in between the gate segments is pretty definitive, I think. It's parked toward the front (the narrower part of the segments), and there is even room behind her for the final energy binder to reach across.
Their not I saw the episode recently and they fit,
I have completely forgot that the segments were sent through the gate on the surface.
Pegasus gates are my favorite. Something about that digital dialing and blue color is very appealing.
I think the symbols were also different. One they were carved in, the other they projected out.

I miss SGU. Destiny is in my top 10 all-time favourite ships
It’s a shame it got cancelled. I remember watching SG1 when it first aired but Atlantis and SGU were my favs
I wonder how many galaxies ended up with full Stargate networks. Also, how many worlds does the Ida galaxy contain that still have life on them since the Replicators we're only after advanced technology. And did Ida have a full gate network?
I could see the Ancients offering a number of stargates to the Asgard as a gift, to be distributed within their own galaxy as they saw fit.
Technically, any civilization that could figure out how stargates work could make more and new networks of their own.
Their dhd on destiny main computer the one that prop rush discover and not tell anyone.
@@SigalDa I'm talking about a designated dhd to each individual destiny/seed ship hate as we've seen in the milky way and Pegasus galaxies
Wow!!! I loved watching this. I have been a huge fan of stargate since the first movie.
I have to admit, you answered things I didn't know I had questions about.
And
This shows how well the writers were of the shows.
Thanks so much for watching, HAMP!
Who else wants to see a Earth star gate made by the SGC
Would prob look like something Orlin built in Carters basement 😂
Why do they need to do that? They have mastered the gate network. Creating a bridge between Pegasus and milky way.
I want my memory erased so I can rewatch this show again! Best thing that I've ever watched
I really liked the sleek black look of the gates in SGU. Very minimalist.
It's official: I am a huge Stargate fan, because I could tell the other three Stargate type in a minute, although two were only in one/two episodes.
The Atlantis gates are definitely my favorite. I love the blue color scheme, and the lights spinning around are a great nod to the milky way gates. XD
I've always loved the sgu Gates. They seem more hard core
All gates are suddenly listed in a public forum that
I would start two new series off.
I'll leave it at that ;)
Great video! I feel the Ori should have had their own style above all, though.
They definitely did, though we never saw their standard-sized Stargates. I imagine they look like a larger version of one of their transport rings -- smooth and rounded, with ornate cursive runes.
@@GateWorldDotNet Yes. With the central oval Ori "symbol" or "insignia" integrated into the chevron design.
I hope in a future series we get to see the Ori gates
@@goku48071 With the Ori being dead it would be interesting to check back in on their galaxy. Could have easily been the next plot for the show as well or even an idea for a new series.
@@GateWorldDotNet
that's what i have been telling ppl. as this is the most likely design and look that i would expect from the Ori.
although i think the gate would have the colors of gold and silver mixed into the design and the cursive runes would light up with a bright white or gold looking esthetic while it was being dialed.
at least that's how i pictured their gate in my head.
funny enough that same design reminds me of the one ring to rule them all lol.
cdn3.movieweb.com/i/article/dy9QSa004sDg3NpTtVsdBpwAV8paqH/1200:100/Lord-Of-The-Rings-Amazon-Series-Cast-Additions.jpg
only more like a stargate, and less like a ring.
but with the design direction it makes complete sense that this is what it would look like.
If there's ever a 4th series that needs a new style of gate, there are lots of new features I'd like to see:
* Chevron lights that illuminate in different colors depending on whether it's an incoming or outgoing wormhole, or something is wrong with the wormhole - say, green for incoming, blue for outgoing, and red for danger. And maybe purple and orange for incoming/outgoing intergalactic wormholes.
* Chevrons with some kind of display; when the gate is dialed, the symbols locked into each chevron are displayed on the chevron itself (when idle, it should look like plain metal, then light up with the glyph during dialing)
* Gates made of modular segments that can be taken apart and assembled in different sizes; this would allow broken gates to be fixed by swapping out damaged segments, or even removing damaged segments and closing the gaps to accept incoming wormholes (if a chevron segment is broken, it can't dial out, until someone like Sam Carter comes up with a brilliant technobabble way to save a stranded team)
* Physical controls on each chevron segment to allow for manual glyph selection (i.e. manual dialing)
* With enough power, the modular gate segments should be able to expand the distance between them, like the Orii supergate, to allow for larger travelers to go through - this would allow more Earth vehicles and equipment to travel through the gate without disassembly (I never understood why SG teams didn't take ATVs or motorcycles through on recon missions, they would have fit through the series gate).
* The segments should also collapse together in a small enough package for easy transport through the standard short-range transport rings, and incorporate anti-gravity capability so a single person can move a collapsed gate around, pushing it like a palette jack
* The gates themselves should be able to establish two-way visual communication, in effect becoming giant video phones - but only if the system is activated by both sides (though again, clever good guys or bad guys could hack the system to spy through an active wormhole)
* All gates should have a standard flat base, so they don't need to be embedded in the ground or a pedestal to stand upright, and all nine chevrons can be seen
* The DHD should be incorporated into the base of each gate, not a separate mobile unit; and it should be really small, like the control podium in Atlantis' hologram room
* The DHD should have more than just the dialing glyphs, it should be a console able to control all the functions of the new gates - dialing, expansion/contraction, mobility, communication, force field irises (not all gates should have force fields, only special locations)
I really wish they would continue Universe. I enjoyed that series.
Grew up on this show it was so good had to go back a couple months ago and rewatch the entire series
OMG, this just popped on my recommended list!
I watched Stargate from the very beginning, now that time as passed, I think I should start watching SG again, even though I am pretty Ancient now :P
lore wise, we are the Alterans future evolution, but we are way less advanced lol.
I'm such a Stargate nerd that I was able to name all 6 types of gate. The Supergate was pretty easy to remember because it was in multiple episodes, including "The Pegasus Project" where they connected it to a black hole.
Awesome to see, that atleast Gateworld is still a thing!
Uh oh... how did I never realize there would be Stargate youtubers...
I don't even need to be told this stuff but I still watched the whole vid.
The Pegasus gate has to be my favourite, that was a beautiful design.
Definitely glad you mentioned Orlin’s mini-gate.
The Destiny Stargate felt somehow old and advanced at the same time... if there is a reboot I hope they use the SG1 gates again
Brilliant video. Clear, comprehensive and still interesting all the way through.
Thanks for watching, James!
my favorite gate is the stargate movie gate the extra moving parts and the fact the each symbol is locked at their respective cheveron rather than just the 7th one every time.
a new gate i would like to see would be a digital/analog mix of the movie gate and the atlantis gate. with a prismatic(not to be confused with chromatic) grayscale base theme.
My fav stargate design is the Atlantis gate
Informative. Useful. Calming. Inspiring. Life-changing. Enjoyable. Heart-warming. Other.
I guess one of the more intersting Ideas for a show spinoff might be a Galexy wide war with the Milkyway stargate network fragmenting into multiple gate networks, Encripting large sections of the Network due to The Lucian Alliance?... perhaps The Furlings... or someone else?
Great video. here's hoping we see another SG show, ideally something hat completes where SGU was cut short.
Your level of knowledge is incredible, even after watching all 3 series more than once I still learnt something :)
You can't beat the classics. Milky Way gates for me.

I'd love to see the fanfic ROTA Stargate network come to fruition, but of the 6 here, I love the Atlantis gates.
You also missed the v1 gate from the original film, which didn't have illuminated chevrons

but pls not the crap like unsivers and the what came after it ........
Ahhhh The Tollans!!! Wow I had 5 of 6 prewatch but The Tollans! Good pull!!
Thanks for watching!
Universe is actually pretty good unfortunately it does get canceled but it’s still worth the watch
It was too dramatic, not like the other shows. It's like they tried to copy Battle Star Galactica
I've always imagined that VERY early stargates where huge things much larger than the gates we know. Something like the mass effect relays in the game Mass effect. I'd love to see some story telling around such early "proto-gates".
I want this thumbnail as wallpaper :o
The original stargate will always be my favorite. I still get goosebumps watching the chevron spinning.
Stargates, my most favorite TV. Thak you for sharing.
HAHAHA, you had me at "Kawooshes". That's the perfect way to describe it.
Pegasus gates have always been my favourite and I hope one day in the future I can incorporate the gate design into a house.
I love the universe gate the most, I just seems more.. Elegant to be honest. Old and beautiful.
Thanks for the mind trip! Miss these shows badly 😢
The SG-1 variant is my favorite
The MilkyWay Gates will always hold a permanent, precious spot in my heart 😄
Maybe as an idea to wrap up sgu they could use Atlantis to send a signal to seed ships to update them so they start making Pegasus style gates or a newer version using Asgard/ancient/earth tech
Maybe but at the end of SGA, Atlantis was on Earth. On a side note I would guess that that would make them the default gate, meaning stargate command would be desolved or absorbed by the international stargate group.
@@allenvasher5358 Well there were plans and/or book to transport Atlantis back to Pegasus, so we can't be sure where Atlantis is right now
This makes no sense and wouldn't work.
@@CaptainChrom Yeah. Plus Earth would need to understand how to make gates first. This is not "pay skin" after all
There's a Stargate novel (I forget the name of it as I haven't read it, just read a summary on the internet) where Stargate Command fly Atlantis back to the Pegasus galaxy.

Thank you, I knew I wasn't the only one that questioned this
I don't remember all of those kind of gates, but the swoosh that comes out in a conical form and not cylindrical.
I always loved the basement gate. I chuckle with the idea that you could find it on a DIY site.
I’ve never seen the blue Atlantis Gate before. It’s beautiful. Also not familiar with the B&W Stargate in Universe.
