UrS4/S6 Owners: This cheap $5-10 sensor can save you big oil leak headaches!

  • This one comes from recent first hand experience. My father's 1994 Audi S4 developed a sudden (and big) oil leak. Luckily, it was noticed when the car was being moved back into the garage and did not occur while on the highway or longer drive. Upon checking the oil levels in the garage the car was down about a quart of oil with the vast majority of that having been deposited on the driveway and garage floor. So what happened?
The oil sensor failed. The sensor has a plastic cap on it which holds the electrical connector spade. When they get old, the plastic gets weak from many heat cycles and can crack which causes a rapid oil leak.
The good news is that the sensor is cheap from aftermarket sources and takes only minutes to swap. If you haven't done yours lately, it would be a good idea to do it now. Having a failure on the highway and losing a bunch of oil isn't good for an engine. ;-)
The factory part number is 056 919 081 for the UrS4 or ELP0151P for the inexpensive Rein brand sensor I found as a replacement.
Rein can be purchased on Amazon as well... amzn.to/3vBGeDl
    Or from ECS: www.ecstuning.com/b-rein-part...

Good PSA. I've always replaced them immediately when I pick up a new UrS4/S6 car. In fact, my S6 had a small leak from that sensor when I picked it up, nothing drastic.

Excellent thank you for this! OEM Intercooler, turbo, and wastegate, overview would be interesting as well as your EFI LS2 coil conversion step by step.

Thank you! Going to do this on the S6 at the same time I do the check valve/connections, pcv, elbow, etc.

Great PSA. Why daily that cream puff white car in the winter? Isn’t that a job for the Europa A6?!?

The Europe A6 is my son's car. It's actually going to be sold soon as a silver '04 A6 S-Line will be taking its place. Eventually I'll daily the D2 S8 but until then the pearl car does fine. I do give it frequent rinses with Salts Gone though... and have been doing that for years.
