He wants justice for Itachi and his family and as an avenger and the way he lived his life till now, this is the way he chose (or was led to by Madara and many before who got in his head) And you can't expect even a normal person to think straight in the moments like these, let alone a 15 year old traumatized kid Also the fact that if Itachi wasn't there (and the 3th Hokage) Danzo and his people would try to kill Sasuke a long time ago is bad on its own

I think its kinda unfair to say that hiruzen signed off on this. They stated in the episode before the he tried a different approach but it was just too late. What else could he have done to stop all this from happening? I mean that situation was unprecedented for a hokage and wasn't something he took lightly im sure. I don't know if they did notice the Mangekyo, but it's hard to blame them, they were super involved in the politics of what happened, and Sasuke deciding to devote all his efforts to destroy the leaf village it's way bigger of a deal than Sasuke awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan.

Just because defending the village was what Itachi wanted doesn't mean that Sasuke should agree with that. At the end of the day the leaf village is responsible for the annihilation of his clan and the suffering of him and itachi. To Sasuke vengeance for a crime as heinous as that is worth far more than Itachi's ideals that aren't his own. Also it's partially Itachi's fault, what has Sasuke been until now? Someone obsessed with revenge, revenge was the only thing driving him and Itachi pushed him to be consumed by revenge, is it at all a surprise that when he finds out the truth his first instinct is revenge? Itachi has always been motivated to do what he thinks needs to be done to maintain peace even at the cost of himself and his loved ones, but Sasuke has always been motivated by revenge, their ideals are too different so of course Sasuke would do this.

If Sasuke kills those 3 elders, that's equivalent to launching a war against the entire Leaf. So Sasuke saying he will revenge against the entire Leaf makes sense. Remember that in their world, killing a person within the village may lead to a great war.
Him destroying the Lead Village as a whole still leads to war, though. Sasuke isn't thinking 'tactically' to minimize war. He wants to destroy every citizen of the Leaf, as he feels they all get to live happily & peacefully because of Itachi's sacrifice.

Kishimoto had no business putting so many layers on on this character but that's exactly what he did. This is why Itachi is still one of the best, if not the best, anime character I've ever seen. Also, a great way to summarize Sasuke's decision by the end is when Madara told him about the coup, he asked "Why would he betray the Uchiha clan?" With this statement alone, you'd know Sasuke would side with his clan against the Leaf if he was part of it.
I always love that people say "Sasuke needs to do his own research." Where fam?! The Leaf Public Library? It's literally redacted government intel that Itachi wiped the clan. And when people want him to "think for himself" it always seems to mesh with what they want and not what Sasuke wants. Let the man be angry and seek revenge for his loved ones. And what Navi said about Sai is a perfect example of what I mean. "All it took was one line from Naruto." Yep, all Sai did was go from one form of brainwashing to another. Sasuke walked the path of revenge for 7 years. The word "revenge" is the nearest thing to him. It's incredible how the Leaf's government wasn't able to solve the things before. The one thing that they were able to do was introducing a spy among the Uchiha clan. The worst thing is that they barely hesitated when the war was inminent. A lot of Uchiha people were inocent, especially the childs. I'm not trying to justify Sasuke's decisions, but they are completely understandable.
People are forgetting the main philosophy in Naruto. In Sauskes head he’s right and is the hero in his story. Pain thought he was doing good, most Naruto Villians don’t think there evil. They believe and get lost in there causes. All of Sauskes emotions and motives are justified. The leaf 100% destroyed the Uchicha clan and swipe it under the rug. Sounds a lot like America.

He can’t kill the elders without fighting the whole village. 4. There is a filler arc specifically about Itach that goes more in depth as well as a filler arc about Kakashi that minority touches on Itachi some more (because Kakashi was Itachi’s annual captain when he first entered)

Lol they keep talking about how the 3 elders are the only ones to blame and how Sasuke should only target them as if they have already forgotten the entire story Madara told about the history of the leaf and the decades spanning series of events that led up to the eradication of the Uchiha. I have stuff to say about Sasuke's decision. For one it's easy for a lot of us to not agree with Sasuke because we can think things through and are for the most part stable minded people. Sasuke is very mentally unstable and has tremendous trauma so yeah he can react very extreme. From the moment Itachi killed his clan he lived his entire life on the principle Itachi was this great evil and that the leaf had good people. After learning Itachi's truth and the truth of the Uchiha his entire life up till this point is a lie. In Part 1 a lot of his decisions were made because he didn't want to be like Itachi. He has no idea what is right or what he wants to do now. He can't just leave the Leaf village alone just killing those 3 people won't ensure that the Leaf is free from corruption. Danzo and the 2 advisors aren't immortal they weren't government officials for the Leaf at all times, the Leaf itself was anti-Uchiha even the Uchiha were anti-Uchiha before the second Hokage thing. You also can't just kill 3 high ranking Leaf officials and get away with it. Sasuke after killing them would be a enemy to the Leaf anyway. Most of the U.S. hates Trump but killing him when he was president wouldn't have made the murderer free of consequences. A thing I feel most people overlook is that sure Itachi loved the village but the one thing he loved more than the village is Sasuke. Sasuke in return loves Itachi more than the village. He can't just agree with Itachi and be like "Oh the Leaf discriminated and plotted the murder of my clan and will live on ridiculing my older brother never knowing the truth...okay I'll let them live."

Having mastered some of the most difficult jutsu as a child, Itachi's potential was painted to be limitless. His brilliance shone even before he awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan. In fact, it is believed that by the age of 7, Itachi had the wisdom of a Kage already. This made him incredibly intelligent and his decision-making, along with the ability to analyze various situations while being calm, made him quite a unique shinobi. While that alone is quite impressive in itself, Itachi's strength went beyond just that. Shisui Uchiha's death triggered the power of the Mangekyo Sharingan in his eyes, making him one of the very few characters to ever wield this legendary eye. It is safe to say that Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan was special and gave him access to some of the most overpowered jutsu. Using his left eye, Itachi could use the Amaterasu - inextinguishable black flames that burn until the target is reduced to ash, and with his right eye, he could cast a powerful genjutsu called Tsukuyomi. While all genjutsu are dangerous if used properly, Tsukuyomi was doubly special. Using this jutsu, Itachi could trap someone in a whole new illusionary world where he had complete control over both space and time, meaning he could manipulate almost anything in the world. One second from the real world could easily be converted to a lifetime in the world of Tsukuyomi and that is what made this genjutsu terrifying. In fact, it remains to be the only regular genjutsu that can kill someone. In Itachi Shinden, Itachi Uchiha cast Tsukuyomi on Izumi, and she was able to live her entire life with Itachi in the illusion where she died of old age. This effect carried on to the real world as well and Izumi ended up dying due to Tsukuyomi in a mere second of real-time.Lastly but not least Kishimoto made sure that Itachi was seen as someone special and he did an incredible job in establishing that in the story. When Itachi Uchiha awakened his Susano'o, he was seen wielding legendary weapons of the Totsuka Blade and the Yata Mirror. The former allowed Itachi to seal anyone he pierced in a world of genjutsu forever, while the latter gave him the ability to deflect any and all attacks thrown towards him, regardless of whether they were physical or spiritual in nature. According to Zetsu, these weapons, when combined with his Susano'o, made Itachi Invincible. ☯️
Man, all of you guys are thinking about this completely too logically. Itachi was traumatized by war and because of this he would do anything for the lead village. The lead village, although not everyone in the village, in turn betrayed him in the end, even sarutobi. Sasuke just killed his brother who he thought was a complete psycho and now he realizes everything is a lie. Sasuke is not in the right mind at all, he hasn’t been for the entire series and it just got way worse. Everything connected in his brain, he doesn’t care about his brothers wishes he just wants to destroy the very thing his brother sworn to protect which in the end was his demise. Sasuke is a traumatized 16 year old who hasn’t even had the chance to do anything other than seek revenge and power and now he knows he killed his brother because of a false narrative the leaf village created, they know the truth. What many people don't know is that Itachi was COMPLETELY BLIND towards the end of his fight with Sasuke. When he brought out Susano he was in the dark. Notice how his eyes are greyed out and when Orochimaru emerges he didn't look up towards him. He used his Susano to help guide him and when he was close enough to Sasuke he let everything go.

If Sasuke kills those 3 elders, that's equivalent to launching a war against the entire Leaf. So Sasuke saying he will revenge against the entire Leaf makes sense. Remember that in their world, killing a person within the village may lead to a great war.
Him destroying the Lead Village as a whole still leads to war, though. Sasuke isn't thinking 'tactically' to minimize war. He wants to destroy every citizen of the Leaf, as he feels they all get to live happily & peacefully because of Itachi's sacrifice.

@@NCore_._ you gotta realize that Hiruzen was the only hokage to live as long as he did. All the others died pretty early on in their lives. So of course Hiruzen faced more challenges. He also had to come back after the fourth died and he was pretty old then. I think Hiruzen was given a shit platter and people give him crap because he couldn't kill orochimaru.

And remember Sarutobi wasn't a spring chicken at this time. He was old. He didn't have his youth on his side to be able to "take charge" as you put it.
Kishimoto had no business putting so many layers on on this character but that's exactly what he did. This is why Itachi is still one of the best, if not the best, anime character I've ever seen.
Also, a great way to summarize Sasuke's decision by the end is when Madara told him about the coup, he asked "Why would he betray the Uchiha clan?" With this statement alone, you'd know Sasuke would side with his clan against the Leaf if he was part of it.

It's incredible how the Leaf's government wasn't able to solve the things before. The one thing that they were able to do was introducing a spy among the Uchiha clan. The worst thing is that they barely hesitated when the war was inminent. A lot of Uchiha people were inocent, especially the childs.

People are forgetting the main philosophy in Naruto. In Sauskes head he’s right and is the hero in his story. Pain thought he was doing good, most Naruto Villians don’t think there evil. Sasuke may be after 3 people only, but do you really think a 16 year old (Mangekyo Sharingan or not) can breach the greatest world Military power and kill their 2, 3 and 4 without the whole village trying to stop him. He can’t kill the elders without fighting the whole village. 4. There is a filler arc specifically about Itach that goes more in depth as well as a filler arc about Kakashi that minority touches on Itachi some more (because Kakashi was Itachi’s annual captain when he first entered)

I have stuff to say about Sasuke's decision. For one it's easy for a lot of us to not agree with Sasuke because we can think things through and are for the most part stable minded people. Sasuke is very mentally unstable and has tremendous trauma so yeah he can react very extreme. From the moment Itachi killed his clan he lived his entire life on the principle Itachi was this great evil and that the leaf had good people. After learning Itachi's truth and the truth of the Uchiha his entire life up till this point is a lie. In Part 1 a lot of his decisions were made because he didn't want to be like Itachi. He has no idea what is right or what he wants to do now. He can't just leave the Leaf village alone just killing those 3 people won't ensure that the Leaf is free from corruption. Danzo and the 2 advisors aren't immortal they weren't government officials for the Leaf at all times, the Leaf itself was anti-Uchiha even the Uchiha were anti-Uchiha before the second Hokage thing. You also can't just kill 3 high ranking Leaf officials and get away with it. Sasuke after killing them would be a enemy to the Leaf anyway. Most of the U.S. hates Trump but killing him when he was president wouldn't have made the murderer free of consequences.
A thing I feel most people overlook is that sure Itachi loved the village but the one thing he loved more than the village is Sasuke. Sasuke in return loves Itachi more than the village. He can't just agree with Itachi and be like "Oh the Leaf discriminated and plotted the murder of my clan and will live on ridiculing my older brother never knowing the truth...okay I'll let them live."

i feel like its important to note too, sasuke straight up views the people of the leaf as profiting off the exploitation and murder of his clan. like of course hes gonna hate everyone there, while his brother was being exploited, while his people were oppressed and then murdered. everyone else just lived in ignorant bliss, unaware of the shit happening right under their noses. itachi's "sacrifice" causing him to be viewed as a villain and a traitor to the leaf, the leaf pushing this impossible decision on itachi, and actively oppressing his clan, are all unforgivable to sasuke.

Sure he's not respecting his brother's wishes but let's also process that he's in no way obligated to do so since his brother killed their entire family.

Man, all of you guys are thinking about this completely too logically. Itachi was traumatized by war and because of this he would do anything for the lead village. The lead village, although not everyone in the village, in turn betrayed him in the end, even sarutobi. Sasuke just killed his brother who he thought was a complete psycho and now he realizes everything is a lie. Sasuke is not in the right mind at all, he hasn’t been for the entire series and it just got way worse. Everything connected in his brain, he doesn’t care about his brothers wishes he just wants to destroy the very thing his brother sworn to protect which in the end was his demise. I love that one guy got annoyed and rolled his eye when they started making jokes. This is a SERIOUS moment and he wanted to ackowledge that, and that guy started talking about porn mags.
What many people don't know is that Itachi was COMPLETELY BLIND towards the end of his fight with Sasuke. When he brought out Susano he was in the dark. Notice how his eyes are greyed out and when Orochimaru emerges he didn't look up towards him. He used his Susano to help guide him and when he was close enough to Sasuke he let everything go.

In the end, what we can ascertain from the countless discussions on this topic is that both sides of Sasuke going against the leaf and Sasuke not going against the leaf are correct.
