Ron Mac95 I think the whole thing behind nautical ghost stories, is thematic you are trapped with whatever is with you. With a haunted house, you could just leave and until you go back, your pretty safe. But on a ship, your trapped with a strange apparition in the middle of an ocean with nowhere to go

I have lived in Australia all my life and have been facinated by that ship for well over 20 years.
I have heard some really messed up things about it.
There was even an episode of "The Extraordinary" (paranormal mystery tv show from 1994-95) that tells the story of that ship.
Truly an evil demonic ship if there ever was one.
It was adrift for many decades just off the shores of Perth Western Australia, she went and sank fully under water only in the last 10 years.
Ah, the ocean. It as wonderful as it is terrifying. As a future nautical officer aboard merchant vessels, these kinds of stories always succeed to entertain me. I just love the mystery and intrigue these stories possesses. I will be remembering these stories when I eventually graduate from the maritime academy as to continue the tradition of sharing ghost ship stories and other strange happenings on the big blue. Your artwork is as always perfect in invoking the atmosphere. Keep up the good work!
Good luck! I hope you succed (sorry if I spelled that wrong) My father is a captain on a big tanker, his been a sailor for longer then what I have been alive. He has told me some crazy things from the high seas. He once told me about having encountered a huge rough wave and that his only choice was to give the ship full power ahead. He did manage to survive the wave, but he lost all power on board.
He once sailed tho The Bermuda Triangle and when I asked him if something had happed, he sounded very.....how do you say it?.....he said nothing happed and that I shouldet worry about it, but there was just something in his tone that made it sound like he wasent telling the truth.

As a dane, im used to see shps and boats, so it was really something to watch this episode. I have a story of my own, tho its not negative in any way, but I wanted to share it anyway.
I used to be a passenger on an older small ferry, I really loved it and I even got the chance to go see areas of the ship that was not allowed for passengers.
When ever I stepped on board, there was always this really sweet and tender feeling. and many times I had to convince myself to leave when we reached land.
But there was one time, where I was outside on the deck, standing by the raling when suddenly, it felt and looked (like the horizon and the sight of islands just moved really quicky up and down) like the entire ship did a massive roll, like if she was in rough seas, but it was a shiny clear summer day with really calm seas. I rememeber I had to grab the raling. And yes, I am used to be in rough seas and I very rary if at all get sea sick.
On another note, I have always wondered what happens to the souls of those who goes down with there ships. Do they stay there, with the ship or do they float around until a ship comes by and they get a ride to land?
Also, I dont know why, but sometimes when I look at vessels that havent been in use for years, not maintained etc, theres always this weird feeling, like the vessel is looking at you.
Anyway, great episode! I cant wait til I see the next one!

Excellent episode! Truly gave me the chills. The USS Lexington is a retired aircraft carrier that was turned into a museum. It's supposedly haunted but I don't know the story. It's only 40 minutes away...I plan to take my son soon.

Think it over. If it's really haunted, having a kid there or going there yourself is not a good idea. You could end up with an attachment. Bringing bad stuff home. My sister did that. She went to some haunted Florida plantation and whatever she brought with her stayed for a year and a half.

The Great Lakes have had more shipwrecks than anywhere else. They literally wash up on shore all the time.
Forget the "Bermuda Triangle" the "Great Lakes Triangle" has claimed thousands.
The search and rescue services around the Great Lakes have no equal, and yet ships, planes and people still disappear all the time there. Something very weird is going on.

You actually need a special pilot's / sailing license to sail on them. In bad weather, waves on Superior can swallow whole ships, like the Edmund Fitzgerald...which is no doubt going to be Bedtime Stories next video.
More fun facts: "Superior Never Gives Up Her Dead". It's true. Bodies sink. In warm water, they grow bacteria, which causes gas, which makes a body bloat, and float.
In cold water like Superior, which stays at a frosty 39 degrees, that bacteria never forms. Whats more, after a while the corpse will excrete a waxy substance, which also helps preserve the body. In fact, if you dove on the Edmund Fitzgerald, you could find the crew, all perfectly preserved. Whats more, you could find even older victims of Superiors shipwrecks, even ones that died a century ago. I hope Bedtime Stories mentions this.

One sea story I remember is one about an old lighthouse. One stormy night the crew of a ship gets to talking in the local bar about how glad they were to see the light from the lighthouse, just barely avoided crashing into submerged rocks because of it. The locals give the sailors looks of disbelief and tell them there was no way, the lighthouse had been decomissioned for years and the light had been removed.
Same thing happens again a while later, the lighthouse light shines and warns away another boat, the locals go up to the old lighthouse to investigate, a guy's little daughter goes missing. Everybody panics and looks for her, she eventually turns up smiling and giggling. The adults ask her where she"s been, and she says she's fine, the nice lighthouse keeper's been showing her around. Eventually, they dig up a black and white photo of of one of the old keepers back in town, and the little girl smiles and nods, saying that's him. Only thing is, he's been dead for many years...
Saw that on an old lighthouse documentary a while back, thought it would fit nicely with all these.
What a nice and dedicated keeper... hope the lighthouse still stands nowadays. Would be a goddamned waste.

Can you imagine game based on Alkimos? You play as caretaker, who is tasked with ship maintenance. While you're moving through the ship, you'll be experiencing scarier and scarier events (first whispers then some shadowy figures and later after that the main "monster" The Welder). You'll also be able to collect some captain's logs/newspaper articles/official reports with ship's history.

I wonder if some of these are caused by vibrations against the ship's hull. I read that it's common to see shadow people in places like warehouses due to the vibrations of fans and other equipment. I experienced this first-hand when I worked in a factory/warehouse. I think it's possible some of the sightings could be caused by something similar. I also imagine that weeks and months on a ship can cause some psychological stress, which in turn can cause hallucinations. The ocean is terrifying in its own right.

Good point - they're also claustrophobic, I went on a navy vessel back when they had Navy Days and the passageways were very narrow and cramped. They're nowhere near as comfortable as passenger ferries and cruise ships.

As a sailor myself, maritime officer here, who has already transversed all oceans (and sadly havent seen or heard any mysterious happenings yet), these stories just like the ''there is something in the water'' video really speak to me. and i cant wait for the other part!

I would like to hear more about USSR mysteries, because it seems so secrative and mysterious. Plus their science experiments were weird, but, ofcourse, they are only rumors.
This is the Russian Empire not the USSR. Also, I suppose this could be caused by the Russian admiral of the fleet accidentally buying cigars full of opium and giving it to the fleet to boost morale. However I don’t know the date of this event (or enough about opium) to know if these events happened close enough in time but I do know that they happened around Africa and Madagascar.

Sailors and fishermen are, in my humble experience, among the most superstitious people on the planet. Anyone else notice that?
Because some of the most beautiful other worldly sights are seen and then some terrible shit happens out there. Instantly.
Pilots, too - especially test pilots and combat pilots. Also submariners.
It's kind-of expected, I think...all of them are put in seriously dangerous jobs knowing every piece of their machines were manufactured by the lowest bidder.
4 years later but weighing in; yes, many of us a very superstitious. I think it comes from the fact that the sea can be really unpredictable, and how you are always at its mercy, not the other way around. It can humble you in an instant, so superstition is just a natural response i think. Besides, plenty of historical records state that sailors have always been a very superstitious kind

a teacher who taught in my primary school went out on a fishing trip with two of his mates a few years back.
I'd seen news articles about searches that were happening for a boat lost at sea but it wasn't until a friend tagged me that I realised it was his boat.
Three days after they failed to return to shore. the boat was found at the bottom of the sea. the area is full of reefs and it made the search harder.
there was one body in the boat. it was one of my teachers mates. but he and his other friend were never found.
it was a very sad time.

As someone who lived in Western Australia, the SS Alkimos is rather infamous. Very little of the wreck remains above the sea, but they named a suburb after the ship in 2008.

I recently heard a story about a current-day merchantman whose crew, for no explicable reason, one by one all began screaming incessantly while aweigh. They weren't obviously frightened, but more confused, as all began to scream one man after another, uncontrollably and not of their own volition, as if it were a contagion spreading through the ship that night. Until one man hurled himself overboard - and they all stopped, no longer compelled to shout their lungs out.
It happened twice more before they reached their destination, and each time the compulsion only ended when a man leapt the rail into the sea - whether of his own doing or otherwise. I don't know what happened after they docked, but I assume all hands resigned.
This was great! Something about this channel is immensely satisfying for some reason! I think the calm narration and the simple yet atmospheric artwork is a perfect combination!
Monday is always a day off for me, so sunday night before bed is always good when BedtimeStories upload.
For the second story, I'd almost believe that they were somehow dragging the crew's corpses, likely because their funeral shrouds snagged on the bottom of the boat - probably on barnacles or other materials - and they only floated up when the forward movement of the ship forced water under them and lifted them up before they finally tore away. Seems farcical but it'd explain the photo and is just as likely, if not more, than ghosts. The photo *could* be paradoilia and a guilty crew too but not every face is imagined. Sometimes you do get a fucked up toss of the dice and, while that doesn't mean ghosts, it does sometimes mean mundane shit that haunts your sleep.
Hmmm its a good theory but if they were dragging them behind the boat wouldnt they be able to see them around the clock not only at night as reported? 🤔
@@Rassy545 I didn't know that it was exclusively night (because its been a while) but even then possibly not. More sunlight would have obscured the faces due to the reflection of the light. The best you'd get was maybe a dark shape in the water that they may have dismissed as shadows, dolphins, fish, etc. At night the pale faces would have been a heavy source of light reflection back-dropped against more darkness, so they'd have stood out more.
@@ryanjones_rheios yes that is true but i mean atleast imo you would notice eventually if you were dragging them, because atleast for me if you would see a dark shadow following the boat at almost the same place everyday i would be suspicious amd with so many people onboard i think it would be noticed but who knows 🤷🏻♂️ i would like to think that the ghost of the crew where watching over them until they delivered the cargo theh were assigned to. Doesnt mean i 100% believe it but i like to think it was like that
@@Rassy545 I mean, I'd be willing to say the breakoff happened earlier and paranoia, pareidolia, and isolation caused future sightings to occur at night when the imprecise lighting allowed their brains to conjure up images in the darkness that others had actually seen and described. Then come landfall the basis of the delusion broke down.
That all said I wouldn't hold it against someone if they just wanted to feel looked after or believe in ghosts so long as they can work effectively outside of that belief. I'm not a Christian because its a pure and pragmatic rational exercise, after all. I just also personally don't think ghosts are a thing. Spirits are, I just don't think there's a way back without maybe a functional physical form.

I tried to look up the Russian ship and there are no sites that can confirm it even existed. The only references to it are on paranormal sites that just repeat the same stories. How do we know any of this is true, or if the ship even existed? Where is this information coming from?
I have to say it is one of the best episodes in history of this channel. It really makes you think what those poor sailors have gone through.
I don't know why but a certain Lovecraftian tone speaks through these stories. Something on the border of utter terror and insanity. Mystery that human perception can't comprehend.

By the way I recommend you all see miniseries called "Terror" about doomed John Franklin expedition to find a passage from Europe to China through north pole. Show is very underrated but deserves every minute you spend watching it. Also don't watch season 2, it's terrible and has no connection to the first one. Give it a watch, especially if you like Jarred Harris!

I remember reading about those two faces in the water. My grandma got me a book as kid by Readers Digest called Mysteries of the Unexplained. Really old book from the 70s or 80s, but I read the shit out of it. Spooky stuff.
The 70's isn't "really old". I was in High School and remember stuff from the 50s. Some of my mates are 30 years older than me and remember Pearl Harbor.

Love y'all, just wanted to say that the stories of the Kentucky goblins is true I grew up visiting a tiny mining town in the blue ridge mountains and u wouldn't believe some of the things I remember regarding what the old folks called holler goblins (hollow goblins) or Tommy knockers. Those stories got me and my whole family hooked and subscribed

I totally concur with Sir Bronn. You guys have a phenomenal channel with the best presentation & narrations. I know it takes time & effort to compile your videos (and I'm extremely grateful for all of them). My only suggestion would be to create more often (2-3/week). If u have your channel monotized & the community helps get you subscribers & views - you're gonna blow up & rake in some decent cash. Just my 2 cents.
