Oh wow! I've been waiting for you guys to do a video on this! This is the most infamous murder in all of Oregon. I went on a road trip in early May of this year and stopped at Lava Lake. The atmosphere there is so sad and heavy, almost unnaturally still. There's a few informational signs that were put up by the county and state that tell the gruesome story, including pictures of the original cabin. There's some artifacts on display as well, but it was closed because of the pandemic. The surrounding Deschutes National Forest is also stunningly beautiful. If you get the chance, I'd definitely suggest a visit!
OsakaRose I actually work as a park ranger. The forests aren't as dangerous as the stories let on :P Just make sure to bring a firearm or some form of protection as well as basic wilderness knowledge and you'll be fine!
Greg S No Yeti (or Bigfoot as we call him here)! But I actually have seen will-o-the-whisps! Around the same time as my road trip mentioned above. They were little tiny blue-white lights floating through the trees. Looked identical to fireflies, but we don't have fireflies that fluoresce as adults here. And fireflies always glow a yellow/green color. These lights were blue-white. Definitely wasn't glowworms either as the weather wasn't right and glowworms can't fly.

This is one of those creepy and very sad and confusing mysteries. And the poor cat and other animals died too. And why? It really does seem like the work of a serial killer. Trying to solve a case back then sounds so brutal.

Man, I was in Aruba at the time and I remember having this sudden hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach that I might have walked right past her or the killer and just never noticed...
Going from the facts in the episode (I'm sure there's much more going on in real life) I would guess: Whoever called them outside was familiar to them, they walked straight out all together with no one reaching for weapons or hanging back, likely someone they all recognised (and trusted so far as to all go out without arming themselves) shouted them. They walked out and were shot immediately by a shotgun. The blast being so severe to blow one lads jaw off killing him instantly, hitting another in the shoulder and the other less severe (whether this being because they were the furthest away or because the majority of the blast was taken by the other lads). The surviving lads were finished off with a pistol because the shotgun had used both its shells (assuming it's a double barrelled) or its one shell (if it was a single shot hunting shotgun). He quickly swapped to his pistol rather than get another shell/s out and reloading. The concealment of the bodies was to hide them for such a sufficient time that he could get far away from the scene in case anybody happened to stop by. Assuming that the person would guess they were out hunting or something. Otherwise it could just be that the person hid the body because it was how they planned it, (whether it be flawed logic or not)
@kinginthenorth 1701 hmmm maybe. I just think it must have been something to cause all three to leave at the same time and especially because they were making breakfast (and reading presumably) it must have been something important or someone they know
@@Samouraii Well, after looking it up there IS a major detail missing from the video. Nichols's trapping license was stolen and used to sell furs in town a few days after his death. The man who used it was not alone, but the clerk wasn't able to identify either man conclusively. Also Kimzey was a main suspect because he'd had prior disagreements with them. But no one was able to verify he'd actually been in town at the time.

One possibility is that Kinzey came across the abandonned cabin by chance, helped himself to the furs and took the permit, which was sitting on the table. Someone else had already been there. Here's a question - if the men were shot to death, why was the hammer bloodstained? Was it used to kill the foxes? You should consider doing a video on The Cresent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It is referred to as the most haunted hotel in America. Forest surrounds the grounds which brings isolation into the fold. It is supposedly haunted by a long time grounds keeper named Michael, a girl who jumped off the roof when the building was a girls only school and Room 218 where most of the incidents have happened. There is a ton of literature about it if you Google it. Also a documentary called "Legends of the Ozarks" has an informative segment on the hotel.
Dont forget all the body parts they found buried in glass jars recently from the crooked Dr who told his patients he was curing their cancer by removing their body parts...and disposing of them in the field. He later went to prison for the rest of his life for medical battery or its equivalent in Arkansas law. They didnt know about his body part collection at the time.
How many people on here are tucked upi in bed with a huge mug of hot chocolate watching this? The narration and story-telling are excellent - and so addictive! After watching, I like to fall asleep listening. Great video! 😃 Many thanks for posting 💞
A Bedtime Story with a special mention of one of my other faves, Kirsty Skye? How perfect :-) These poor lads went to town, collected their pay, and were followed back to their cabin by some creeps who were no strangers to violent crime. The way their bodies were disposed of takes planning, a certain level of cunning, and a chilling demeanor. I'm sure they were not the first, nor the last, victims of these killers. Perhaps some day, evidence will surface that will allow this case to be solved. Thanks guys for another great video! Stay safe and well.

A Bedtime Story with a special mention of one of my other faves, Kirsty Skye? How perfect :-)
These poor lads went to town, collected their pay, and were followed back to their cabin by some creeps who were no strangers to violent crime.
