      I hope that the last few months have been okay for you.
      The funny thing about this video is that I grew up in Crosshill during the exact time frame, and my Dad grew up in the Gorbals, (next to the Southern Necropolis) during the 40/50s - born in 1942, so he'd have been 11 or 12 if he was involved in the vampire hunt.

    Scottish kids decided to hunt down a vampire themselves? Yes, those kids are true Scots. As for the Gurning Man, perhaps it was a fellow suffering from a nerve ailment of some type. A few people see him wandering about a night, and the legend builds from those sightings.

    • @Kasarii
      @Kasarii 4 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      First night in student housing in Copenhagen, I heard a scream. This was in the "should I call police?" range of screaming. I couldn't see anything through the window, there was no commotion, so I eventually made the decision to just go to bed, hoping I wasn't wrong to do so. Turns out Screams At Traffic Lights Man was a bit of local color in the area. Some psych facilities (housing the less dangerous kind of mental patients) operated in the area, and Screams At Traffic Lights Man was allowed to roam freely since he wasn't aggressive and only minimally disruptive. I got to experience him up close at the street crossing on another occasion, not knowing the face that went with the title, I was rather startled. You could see from the reaction of the other people waiting for green that most of them were locals, as soon as they figured out who was doing the screaming, they all relaxed right away.

    • @TheKulu42
      @TheKulu42 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@Kasarii Now that's interesting. Such a fellow could be a jumping off point for a urban legend like the Gurning Man. Once the story's passed around verbally and via the internet, Screams At Traffic Lights Man makes the jump from mildly annoying and even sympathetic to menacing. Folks can't resist embellishing a story.

    • @TheKulu42

      Yeah my Mom has worked in healthcare all her life (and therefore, mine) and she'd bring me along sometimes. I've seen folks who had developmental disabilities who would look and act similarly to how The Gurning Man is described. I've also seen regular folk's responses that were more monstrous than any patient's behavior. Healthy folk can be pretty mean to people they don't understand. I can easily see how seeing someone like that could spark wild stories. He could have been kept locked away by his family out of misplaced shame and maybe occasionally he'd escape. Doesn't explain the sightings in people's houses but sensationalism can lead to stories popping up like that.

    This reminds me of the Green Man of Pittsburgh. The stories I was told was that a mutated man wandered the local roadways his face melted by a massive electric shock that also turned his skin green. It was said he had to smoke his cigarettes out of a hole in the side of his neck. Turns out the Green Man really had existed. He was just a poor burn victim who habitually wore the color green and walked everywhere because he didn’t have a car. Urban legends are wild.

    The Haunted Hermitage Castle
    The story of Sawney Bean and his clan
    The haunted battlefield at Killiekrankie
    The Dullahan wraith (which inspired the Headless Horseman from the Legend of Sleepy Hollow).

      @@RogueAce93 The Dullahan is a fantastic story, so I'd love to see it - I wasn't trying to be a smartarse - just putting the story in the correct location.
      There's a lot of crossover between Scottish and Irish mythology, so it's entirely possible you've heard it in a Scottish context, but it's definitely Irish in origin.

    Thoroughly enjoyed that.
    I've heard this tale, (TH-cam and other online sources) several times now, and this was far and away the best incarnation.
    If we are to accept the story, it's highly unlikely that it's an actual person, given that 30 - 40 years have passed since the earlier reports and the most recent, and he was said to be around 50+ years old in the first place.
    I'd love to know where it originated.

    When I was working on the Buchanan Street Starbucks one night, the girls and I were closing shop and a man covered in blood from no apparent wound of his own tried to chat us up and I’m pretty sure he was the Gurning Man x

    This is the 1st time I've ever heard of this. I've lived in the Crosshill / Queens Park areas in the this time frame and I'd never heard anyone mention this, until now.

    Good psych-out at the end there. I was fully expecting those rubbish cans to shake suddenly, or to hear the Gurning Man's scream again.

      There is this one scary narrator that has this weird cadence to his voice. Like he is asking a question at the end of the sentence. I can't remember his name buy damn does his voice sound weird.
