    This channel never disappoints because it always puts quality over quantity. It's the perfect antidote for all the tiktok and Reddit creepypasta rubbish that some other contemporary channels harvest just for easy content.

    The first story: Sounds more like delirium tremens from withdrawal from alcohol, which can kill you, rather than delirium from over-drinking.

    That first story actually makes me think the alcoholic sailer might’ve been experiencing psychosis from stopping his drinking cold turkey, since you can actually die without medical attention nowadays if someone who drinks heavily all the time tries to fully stop.

    • @-Reagan
      @-Reagan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think (and commented) the very same thing! Sounds more likely delirium tremens (DT’s) from alcohol withdrawal, which, you’re exactly right, can kill you - rather than delirium from being drunk. It’s sad, he seems to have been trying so hard to please his captain. Only to be condemned for it and tied up, which might have contributed to his death of heart failure.

    • @lauraholmes2402
      @lauraholmes2402 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I remember watching a programme following paramedics that had a case like this. A very heavy drinker went cold turkey and his wife had to call an ambulance because he just stopped and went catatonic and couldn’t stop shaking. The paramedics had to give him a beer to bring him out of it, which sounds counterproductive but he’d have probably died without it. They said it was admirable that he wanted to stop, but he needed professional help because his drinking was so heavy suddenly depriving his body of it shocked it.

    My favorite sea story is about the Hurricane that devestated Galveston, Texas in the early 1900's! An actor from a New England state had always said he wanted to be buried back in his New England birthplace. Unfortunately he died and was buried in Texas. The book Isaac's Storm told the story about how the hurricane swamped a cemetery and a number of caskets were released from the cemetery and ended up in the Gulf of Mexico. The caskets got caught up in the Gulf Stream. The actors coffin ⚰️ ended up off the New England coast near the town where he had been born!!!!!

    It was Bilsons abstinence from alcohol that drove him into delirium, not overindulgence.

    • @littleblackcar
      @littleblackcar ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Was just getting on here to say that: This is classic alcoholic withdrawal. This is literally why you're not supposed to stop drinking cold turkey if you're a heavy alcoholic.

  • @littleredwitch
    @littleredwitch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Bilson died from a sudden withdrawal from alcohol. It is well known that withdrawal from alcohol must be done gradually in order to avoid delirium tremens or death.

    Im sure the word you used in the
    " Johnny " story, you pronounced as ' Forecastle' is actually said as ' Fo-c'sle' like fow- k- sel. I ive seen it written & the word looks like Forecastle but isnt pronounced that way.
    As many naval terms go way back in British tradition & how the spoken word sounded in those days esp among sailors a kind of shortened version of naval terms were used & remain so today.
    Like the word Gunwales is pronounced Gunnels.
    Thank you very much for another brilliant video. I do look forward to every one you bring you for us.

      @@dianne11ca thank you for replying, i never mean to sound disrespectful in my comments regarding pronounciation only wanting, as i myself would want to know, how something written is different to how its said,as it facinates me why the discrepancy?
      Unfortunately many people send me vitriolic replies telling me to mind my own business.
      I can accept some people dont or cant take a little pointer to the right direction & ive never worded my comment in any negative way or sounded belittling.
      Ive been corrected many times by others if ive made a mistake & im really grateful & thank them for pointing out my error, its how we learn after all.
      So im pleased you have taken my advice on old naval terms in good spirit. I only learned of them myself after reading about words written but pronounced very differently & in the book it had sections dealing with things such as naval terms or medical terms, place names, etc.
      I do love your channel, i know as you've said to me before, you cant upload as often as you'd wish but im fine with that.
      Id rather have quality over quantity anytime & your channel
      Never disappoints, its always top notch.

    Wow! For a second there, I mistook the NordVPN promo as another ghost story...the narrator's voice is conducive to even listening to an adv!

      If I didn't already have Nord, I would get it again after that lol

    Forecastle is pronounced "FOHK-sel". Don't ask me why. It just is what it is. Probably came about from a Bostonian on a whaling ship. 😆

      Indeed: we see & hear Gary Busey use the pronunciation while pointing to a diagram saying, "forecastle," in the film "Under Siege."

      CW, thank you for putting in so much time and effort to make these videos! The quality is truly singular. Of course it takes time to prepare and produce such detailed and polished videos. Much appreciated!

    Interesting and very well researched as always. It is very noticeable that ( with the exception of the Johnny item, which itself has plenty of precedent), all the "ghosts" did NOT interact with observers to any noticeable extent. This certainly seems to be very consistent in the real world, with observers (often not exactly willing!) noting that whatever they saw was not interested (or even seemed to notice) their presence, which adds credence to the "stone tape" hypothesis - that what we "see" (or rather our brain perceives) may be analogous to a recording, either triggered by our presence, or simply "replaying" on a continuous basis, presumably forever?
    Currently we really don't know what is going on, and the rather sensationalist "Ghost Hunter" programmes on the TV do nothing to provide useful, hard data, which might cast some light onto what is very much an unexplored area simply because it has been tainted by sensationalism.

      There's several theories, and all could be correct. Your theory is certainly credible and would explain why these residual recordings fade over time. There's many instances of ghost sightings become less frequent, with the ghost gradually, over many years, becoming just a faded outline, then a shadow, then eventually just the sound of them is left. When that fades a presence is the only thing felt. Then even that goes.
      Another is the time slip theory, whereby a ghost is seen because of a time differential. That would explain why some people can see ghosts who can also see them, and why the ghost will often appear shocked or afraid at the sight of the modern looking person suddenly visible to them. It's not a ghost in this case, but an actual living person from the past. It would also explain why these "ghosts" appear to be very real and in colour with definitive outlines.

      @@Useaname Thank you for that insight. I believe this Channel has also covered time-slip cases, which is in itself interesting. Do you have any thoughts on why some people can "reliably" see ghosts / apparitions, whilst others either cannot, or have only seen the one or two "ghosts"? I fall into the "once only" category, and frankly once is enough for me! 😀
