  • In this episode, we will take a look at the benefits of following power law 15 as shown through Feech, the consequences of ignoring it as seen through Tony, both with Junior where we actually it working in both directions, and with New York, where we see the potential long term impact even assuming Tony wasnt killed to end the series. Lastly we will end with an example of the reversal of the law as shown through little Carmine.

4:18 I disagree in here because even though Tony made peace with Junior, he took over all of Junior's rackets and pocketed like 95% from each take, leaving Junior practically useless and left in the wind. As you can see, Junior gets forgotten more and more by the NJ guys, except for Tony and Bobby, by each season, despite still having the title of boss in name, due to him not being on the street, because of his house arrest and living under Tony's flag. If that's not crushing your enemy, then I don't know what is.

    • @bullywhispers9544
      @bullywhispers9544  ปีที่แล้ว +10

I agree. From a mob standpoint he was done, but if he was truly crushed then he would be harmless. Since he shot Tony, he clearly wasnt harmless. I brought that example up mostly to put an emphasis on how vague of a concept crushing them totally is, and how hard it would be to recognize when that had been done. Thanks for watching!

This Law of Power in the Sopranos series is my personal top of things I keep waiting for on YT. Thanks for still doing it!
I think the most underrated character will always be Lilliana Wosilius. Even as a Pole, I can't understand her without subtitles. Even her name is bizarre. IMO she wasn't even Polish, but an FBI informant (that's why she took the jacket - they needed evidence and she let the agents into the house. That makes sense)
but in all seriousness, for me this character is Johnny Sack. I think a lot of people underestimate how fair, in this really awful environment, this guy was always trying to be. I think he was the only one in the whole series who actually cared about his family - or that care was the most believable at least.

Otto von Bismarck had an interesting and different approach. In the German War, when Prussia secured the military victory over the Habsburg Empire after the battle of Königgrätz, the Prussian King Wilhelm I. wanted to march all the way to the Habsburg Capital of Vienna to fully crush his enemy. His chancellor von Bismarck successfully argued against it. His reason behind it was that he saw the German lead Habsburg Empire as a future ally. This tactic worked, and the Habsburg Empire was a loyal ally until its ultimate demise after WW I.

I think it s Not about If
Little Carmine was a Genius. He knew what was important in life. He benefit from the Mafia made a lot of Money had a Family and was Happy. A lot of people in the criminal life fight over Power but in the end most Bosses spend their life in prison. And for what in the first season Tony had a wealthy life his children can go to College and Carmela live a life full of luxury and in the end nothing changed Tony had even debts by Tash(short but still). What we can learn from that is choose our Goals carefully. Some people have this drive do get to the top. Thats respectable but it cost a price. Theres no rooms for misttakes at the top. And for instance Chris or Jacky could Nr(or wanted) not learn and adapt fast enough. Sorry for bad language i am No Native Speaker.

I think Christopher was the most underrated character in the Sopranos. I know he is a fan favorite, but I think a lot of people overlook his loyalty and sheer fearlessness. Drug addiction aside, he was easily one of Tony's most fearsome assets. If Tony had treated him a little better, I think he would have been a game changer in the war against New York.

To me, the most under-appreciated Soprano's character was Carmela. I can't list all of the reasons. Aside from overall brilliant acting, she kept it more old school than meets the eye. First off, she was a pretty devout Catholic, other than the obvious enabling of Tony's way of life (which nobody could really do anything about anyways). She accepted the fact that Tony had a "gumad" (or several), which is something that most modern women would not tolerate; and understandably so. For the most part, she supported Tony unconditionally (with obvious exceptions). She would do things like visit with relatives, or make a concerted effort to. Her attire, in terms of what a mobsters housewife would be wearing, was remarkably consistent with real life. She was determined to be a good mother to Meadow and Anthony Jr. regardless of how difficult that was on her. Her character flaws throughout the series, whenever it was that she would demonstrate them, were almost understandable if not somewhat justifiable to the audience. Bottom line, she was a strong woman. If push comes to shove, she'll do whatever it takes to survive; for her and her children. She wasn't even scared to steal from Tony; think about that. I guess I'm trying to say she had real balls. Fer feelings for Furio just demonstrated the human condition. From time to time, everyone has feelings for someone that they cannot really control. Long story short, her character and actions for the most part were really old school. The character that Falco played will continue to be overlooked throughout the years, but not by all. Thanks for reading. Ha!

Tony’s greed is what got him in trouble in here. With slight modification, this power law can be restated as “No loose ends”
Tony kept Junior around to be a lightening rod for the feds, but Junior bore deep personal animosity toward Tony. His own nephew stepped over him after all. Junior was a loose end.
Tony wanted to Vito alive after that whole thing came to light since Vito was a solid earner. But Vito had business ties to NY through the esplanade project and was also related to Phil Leotardo by marriage. Never mind the whole dysentery in the ranks issue. More loose ends.
Tony’s own mother was a loose end 😂
There’s a pattern in the root causes of the most dangerous problems that vexed Tony throughout the series.

I'll start by saying I liked the video, and you bring up some great points, but I don't think this is Sun Tzu's favorite law. I see where you are going with this, but to say this is the man's favorite law, does give a false impression of what Sun Tzu actually preached. While Sun Tzu did say "Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him." This is pretty much the only time that he says something remotely like this. Frankly, if Sun Tzu were to look at the mafia, his advice would most likely to be for their end goal to be to go legit, and rule through power by proxy (ie buying politicians). There is a lot of Sun Tzu that you can apply to the mafia, but his favorite law would probably be "strike the Shepard and the sheep will scatter".

I might not stay with this if I think a while, bit right off the bat, I'd say little Carmine. Now it's kind of not fair really, and the same goes with Bobby, I don't believe either character were actually low key geniuses or rather just, a lot smarter than you thought all along, I think David chase & whoever decided to develop them into far more interesting supporting characters at the end, sort of the opposite of how sitcoms sometimes suddenly make a character really stupid In the 2nd season for comedic effect, Kelly Bundy being a prime example. However, since it's a linear fictiom, we just have to play along and accept they really were that D.L
Highly intelligent character along. While Bobby turns out to be an absolutely perfect #2 type, he's mostly dependable stable, level headed,he's a long way from Notre Dame and the predictions of Quazi Moto, However, that trip Little Carmine lays on Tony about his dream, that displays absolute amazing not just intellect, bit self awareness, to interpret his own dream, and as Tony is completely missing the point, I think just because he's so focused on pulling "L.C." into the conflict to his own ends. Tony finally gets what he's saying when he spells it out for him, and you can see the stunned disappointment on his face
"Holy shit, this guy actually is smart a.f., he'd have made a great boss. Idk, I think that displa and potential reach is bigger than Bobby's.
