      Fucking insult to Witcher universe. Yennefer never liked Jaskier, or Dandelion or whatever.
      Her only relent was because he usually didn't allow Geralt to wander alone. Other than that, as Geralt put it, she hated Jaskier like the plague. Found him profane, simple minded and shrewd.
      And to think, Jaskier is way way more serious in the books, he's actually very brave, and very composed, not some buffoon who constantly tries to be funny, he has a very dumb, irresponsible sense of humour but he is no way this cheesy. A lot of times, he's more sensible than Geralt and usually tries to put some wisdom into his think skull instead of constantly causing problems.
      Then again, this is the show that turned Yennefer of Vengerberg into a constantly cursing, overly compassionate, extremely masculine, aggressive and direct type of a person so you can't really expect much from them.
      I didn't like the first season, but the real death inside me happened when Yennefer yelled ''Oi'' in the middle of a back alley, to some elf fugitive because she was too wounded about some filthy elven mute she met 10 minutes ago

      In the second book she literally saves him from Reince and then tells him " I like you " and yes they had a bad relationship at first but she literally says that she likes him now and even grateful to him and yes because he kept geralt company but that's even more sweet and geralt said that yen hated dandelion on the first book onlyyy but these events happened on the second book when she even advices him on taking care of himself and stops the songs about ciri for his safety .. so yesss they developed a good relationship ❤❤

    • @sansalito2258
      @sansalito2258 2 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      I would say its rather a bad thing because it seems forced if you take away yens powers just so you are able go develop her character. In my opinion she can still have great character development even with her powers like in the books and the games

      @beckonerseven9517 2 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      @@sansalito2258 They needed a way to distill Yen's arc in under 8 hours. There's too much content in the books to get Yen to the point bonding with Ciri in just 8 episodes without having to change even *MORE* from the books. Making her temporarily vulnerable was a good way of doing that while simultaneously building the suspense of how Yen would prevail.
      What book purists tend to forget is that not only were the games far different from the books, but good storytelling works differently on paper than on screen. Harry Potter's ending was good on paper, but would've been anti-climactic on screen.
      Just like how the Witcher was a damn good game even though it deviated from the books, the Witcher is damn good television.

It allowed for a certain depth and humanity for her character that I don't think would've been brought out otherwise, one that I think even she didn't realize she was capable of. @@CytheriaXylia Certain depth and humanity? Yennefer is one of the most human characters of the entire book series, she is much more relatable than Geralt in many parts of it and they turned her into some shallow, self important ass who can't do anything right
      She was gonna give Ciri to some dark power just to get her magic back which is also very silly and doesn't make sense in the world this story is going on, they still haven't explained why she lost her magic and why she found it back, it's just dumb plot to make Yennefer important in the overall arc, wheras her entire story was about educating Ciri
      An education which is a great part of the series, that shows Yennefer's intelligence, her knowledge about the world they have and how compassionate and passionate she is

    In the witcher books fire element is the hardest one for sorcerers to handle. Only sorcer masters like Tissaia and Vilgerfotz are revealed the capability to handle fire. Even senior sorceress like Fillippa can hardly control fire. Witcher's igni sign can only be used as litter rather than fire sprayer. Yen, Rience ,and Triss are not supposed to have the capability to control fire in the book but they all become fire sorcerers in the series or in the games.

      Not sure where you got this information from, but books don't really single out anyone as being able or not to use fire as source of power. Yes, Yennefer tells Ciri that it's very dangerous and she should never do it, but at this point Ciri is just beginning her training. And we know what happens in Time of Contempt when Ciri uses fire - she gets "possessed" by the power, but at this point she has very little training. There is no indication that skilled sorcerer would face similar issues.

    Perfect example of overestimating ones own abilities. Guy has flame magic, woman has alcohol, guy tries to use snapping fingers with fire to a woman wit a mouthful of alcohol. Once you see she's drinking it was obvious how that was gonna turn out. Thank goodness for idiot villains.

    Rience is such a cool character. The writers wants us to think that he's evil and twisted but he's one the few shining lights and things left in this show. The actor who portrays Rience is very good and talented. Unique looking and has an epic voice as well. Jaskier feels like an annoying comic relief anyways. All he does is dance, sing, drink, play instruments, whine and showboat. He's never useful, likable or helpful except for bantering and arguing with other people which is not really a social skill or a trait in general. It's just frustrating. Now I hear they are recasting Rience I hope it's not true. But knowing what it's been done to Henry nothing surprises me anymore.

    the scene was nothing like what happened in the books... in blood of elves, Rience does indeed kidnap Jaskier and Yennefer saves him. but Yenner shoes up out of nowhere and casts a spell that makes Rience run like a rat, and burns his portal causing him severe and untreatable burns. it was so badass, they so let me down this season

      I read all books too and I really don't like them. That's why I am still impressed on how the CDPR made such good content for a game out of a shit Book series. 😅
      I must say, I am really impressed with Season two and I'm happy that they don't exactly go by the books.

      @@jonbui4092 yes and there is no reason why they decided to make Yennefer powerless. In Blood of Elves she was totally badass, a powerful sorceress that not only saved Jaskier thank to her magic, but also became a teacher of Ciri. There were a lot of scenes of Ciri and Yen together learning magic and that was awesome and funny as well. Fuckin Netflix, they always need to make idiotic changes.
