You know Tom Dwan gave an analysis of his thoughts at the time in an old video right? He literally explains that he thought Peter had a weak 2 and Barry had an overpair, and he figured he could get it through because the pot started 8 handed.
cant wait for the Dwan v Ivey hand, you know at this point that it's coming, I'd also like to see Doug ponder the hand between Antonius and Laak bluff :D
13:04 @DougPolkPoker what do you mean “what else can Eastgate have worse than a deuce” Wouldn’t A10s be a call on SB? Or 33, 44, 55. If my question is completely stupid let me know, I’m fairly knew to studying poker
There is also the fact Dwan blocks pocket 10s and the that if he put Barry on an over pair like AA/KK/QQ Barry hard blocks hands like A2/K2/Q2s and Dwan also has a Q which is another blocker to Q2s.
If you think about it, Tom Dwan was representing pocket 10s only. No hand with a deuce in it makes sense to just call first in pot after greenstein raise with many players behind to potentially squeeze.
I’ve said it before but this was such a terrible hand by both Eastgate and Greenstein. There’s no reason for Eastgate to think he’s losing to Dwan here. If Dwan had 10-10 or even 7-7, he would never play it that way. And Greenstein was gifted the pot when Eastgate folded and still screwed it up. What could Dwan have? Sure, he could have a deuce. But it’s such a small possibility, maybe a 1/7 chance at worst. I mean, I can see if Greenstein has JJ or QQ, then it’s a tougher call. But AA is winning against Dwan there at least 9 times out of 10.
I agree. They are playing on scared money in a way. Barry is notoriously tight, and Eastgate is a nit who plays his stack like a tournament buy-in. Dwan prob realized this, giving him incentive to attempt a bluff. If one of the other players called, he might not make the same bluff. I'm sure not even a solver advises folding 42 or AA there. At least not on the turn...

Doug an idea for one of your streams is to only have old-school high stakes poker pros at the table as it would be great fun seeing them play now as opposed to then.
Doug, big fan, love the videos keep them coming. However in this hand I have to disagree with your analysis. Yes, 100% Dwan made a great play due to his knowledge of Eastgate and Greenstein. And maybe it’s not your analysis that is off but Eastgates play. I mean if you’re going to call preflop with 2/4, what flops are you hoping for that is much better than this one, sure 2/2/2 or 4/4/4 or 4/4/2 and so on but 2/2/10 is pretty amazing for his hand. So if Eastgate calls preflop, and then calls Dwan’s $37,000 raise, I think he has to go with it. Otherwise he should have folded preflop or on the flop. The odds Dwan was ahead was pretty slim, and I know it is easy to say, since I can see all the hands but if I were Eastgate or say it was Negranu or Antonio Esfondiari or even Eli Elezra I think they call Dwan down or even raise him on the turn. Spoke to Barry G once at a card room in LA during a questions and answer format with the pro's (Barry and Moneymaker), where I specifically asked Barry about playing "high stakes cash games". He responded to me by saying that this HSP series was basically an "info-mercial !" I'm assuming that mean these players were NOT playing for their own real cash, but rather all the cast members (players) were paid a fix amount??! Anyway, that's what I know, even though I assumed, like most anyone, that this was real cash from ea player on the table, unlike what we see on Live at Bike / Hustler. Could be wrong, but I don't think so. Only other option is that they might have played for some sort of tournament payout structure for whoever ended up with biggest win, down to biggest loser. Again. I'm saying this from what Barry said during the questioning I posed after brief questioning. Anyone ever talk to any of these guys might ask em on this, if curious
This is depressing because i would never have folded either the 2 or the AA, i know it would have worked out this time but hearing doug say what a bad play it is makes me realize how bad at this game i am despite being playing for so long ! I know im way too sticky and im working on it but i wouldnt have even contemplated folding the 2
you would be right in not folding the 2. If you watch some calls Doug has made in high stakes pokergo games recently, you would realize Doug does not follow his own advice and he lost a bundle. Also, IF Tom had a 2, and there were still 6 players left to act behind him, WHY would he raise that 2, to get those players OUT???? He wouldn't. He would check that 2, hoping someone behind him would bet. No one should think Tom had a 2
@@credittrickscredithacks Yeah well what you say makes sence to me because im bad at the game, but im sure you agree doug is better than both of us, also i wouldnt consider his play at the lodge too serious, i think he is joking around a lot there and just being spewy and kind of bad to get the game rolling a bit, to him its like micro micro stakes, its like me playing for 10c, of course im gonna not play serious when its pennies ! But thankyou, its nice of you to try and make me feel better about my play !
@CreditTricksCreditHacks No you would check that 2. Tom would not because he balances his bluffing range. Also trip deuces is still vulnerable 8 ways.
I would however argue that it’s hard for both eastgate and greenstein to fold here specifically because dwan was a new wave of aggro player that publicized his success on big bets in awkward situations. Dwan could only play ax suited to win. Barry and east gate block most hands. Dwan knows both players value bet their big hands if he checks. It’s a 90% bluff based on his history.
This is why I just love Tom Dwan. He can literally drool in a bluff and still his dead doll pokerface psychs them out. God i love him. So hot. sosoohot
1) Peter Eastgate won the 2008 Main Event, Ivan Demidov was the runner up (the first November 9). 2) “Because you have the Ace of clubs you don’t block Ace Deuce of clubs” 🤔
I disagree with him saying he should muck 2 4. 2500 to see a flop with at least 17,500 in the middle. I call with anything. He probably also knew that Doyle was coming in behind him to make the pot 20k. Gotta call.
What makes me laugh is that when this hand initially appeared on youtube, most of the online regs of low/midstakes in the comment section back then thought Peter's fold was atrocious.. when in reality it's even quite debatable wether the flop call is ok. Granted it's not common to have 8-ways online and they would have needed a brain to realize that it's not the same as a hu pot (and as we know most midstakes regs don't really have that).
Was calling Eastgate "runner up" a dig? Meaning he is a bad poker player and the real winner should be 2nd place finisher Ivan Demidov? Didnt you learn anything Doug?! I'll be looking forward to the apology soon. Thanks

Should of let the whole clip play . Tom knew peter had a deuce and even made a bet with doyle that peter had a deuce
'from a few years ago, er, more like a decade ago' Me, every time I reference a memory, then realize I'm old as fuck and what I'm talking about is ancient history.
Great breakdown, solid. 👍
For a couple minutes dwan was the best player in the world
I could swear I saw you analyse this hand before.
Nontheless, thanks for the video.
Most entertaining poker for sure I loved that series!
Its a good bluff because with that many people its super underbluffed. But you can also run into it a lot.
About 1/3 the deck was distributed towards live hands.
@CreditTricksCreditHacks No you would check that 2. Tom would not because he balances his bluffing range. Also trip deuces is still vulnerable 8 ways.
maybe you would check a deuce. dwan wouldn't.
Not happy with Dwan’s bets? How does that make any sense?
one of my favorite hands for sure
The play is so bad that it worked in his favor.
I really believe that he was being put on a 10-2 hand...Doyle being there
Doyle should've rebluffed Dwan repping 10 2
I would however argue that it’s hard for both eastgate and greenstein to fold here specifically because dwan was a new wave of aggro player that publicized his success on big bets in awkward situations. Dwan could only play ax suited to win. Barry and east gate block most hands. Dwan knows both players value bet their big hands if he checks. It’s a 90% bluff based on his history.
This is why I just love Tom Dwan.
He can literally drool in a bluff and still his dead doll pokerface psychs them out.
God i love him. So hot. sosoohot
Favorite hand of all time
1) Peter Eastgate won the 2008 Main Event, Ivan Demidov was the runner up (the first November 9).
2) “Because you have the Ace of clubs you don’t block Ace Deuce of clubs” 🤔
We need Tom at the Lodge!
I disagree with him saying he should muck 2 4. 2500 to see a flop with at least 17,500 in the middle. I call with anything. He probably also knew that Doyle was coming in behind him to make the pot 20k. Gotta call.
I had it! Lol Barry greenstein probably still has nightmares about Tom dwan

Well played Doug
What makes me laugh is that when this hand initially appeared on youtube, most of the online regs of low/midstakes in the comment section back then thought Peter's fold was atrocious.. when in reality it's even quite debatable wether the flop call is ok. Granted it's not common to have 8-ways online and they would have needed a brain to realize that it's not the same as a hu pot (and as we know most midstakes regs don't really have that).
You vs Charlie carrol heads up! Is it happening and what he has said in his video, is that true?
Doug keep doing your thing..screw all the haters with their attempted cancel culture nonsense !
Is this a re-upload? I think, for my poker feed, I am mainly following you only and this hand looks very familiar.
You're a good man Doug. Its easy to become jaded and sidetracked, most do, you never did.
Be you.
Was calling Eastgate "runner up" a dig? Meaning he is a bad poker player and the real winner should be 2nd place finisher Ivan Demidov? Didnt you learn anything Doug?! I'll be looking forward to the apology soon. Thanks
This hand is actually preposterous. The perfect storm of factors. Nobody else at the table is folding that hand except Eastgate.
Is it 2017 again?
Bro… what a lineup!!!🔥🔥🔥
Doug fumbles over his words too much lately the last like minute and half is just brutal to listen to
