    There is actually a video of Dwan analyzing this hand a couple years later and he essentially said he knew exactly where he was at and even had seen a couple examples previously where Eastgate had folded in similar situations. Definitely not blind aggression, an insane play to say the least.

    I’ve said it before but this was such a terrible hand by both Eastgate and Greenstein. There’s no reason for Eastgate to think he’s losing to Dwan here. If Dwan had 10-10 or even 7-7, he would never play it that way.
    And Greenstein was gifted the pot when Eastgate folded and still screwed it up. What could Dwan have? Sure, he could have a deuce. But it’s such a small possibility, maybe a 1/7 chance at worst. I mean, I can see if Greenstein has JJ or QQ, then it’s a tougher call. But AA is winning against Dwan there at least 9 times out of 10.

    • @SmartDumbNerdyCool
      @SmartDumbNerdyCool ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. They are playing on scared money in a way. Barry is notoriously tight, and Eastgate is a nit who plays his stack like a tournament buy-in. Dwan prob realized this, giving him incentive to attempt a bluff. If one of the other players called, he might not make the same bluff. I'm sure not even a solver advises folding 42 or AA there. At least not on the turn...

    Doug, big fan, love the videos keep them coming. However in this hand I have to disagree with your analysis.
    Yes, 100% Dwan made a great play due to his knowledge of Eastgate and Greenstein. And maybe it’s not your analysis that is off but Eastgates play.
    I mean if you’re going to call preflop with 2/4, what flops are you hoping for that is much better than this one, sure 2/2/2 or 4/4/4 or 4/4/2 and so on but 2/2/10 is pretty amazing for his hand.
    So if Eastgate calls preflop, and then calls Dwan’s $37,000 raise, I think he has to go with it. Otherwise he should have folded preflop or on the flop. The odds Dwan was ahead was pretty slim, and I know it is easy to say, since I can see all the hands but if I were Eastgate or say it was Negranu or Antonio Esfondiari or even Eli Elezra I think they call Dwan down or even raise him on the turn. Eric Pearson would, so would Bill Perkins and I imagine you Doug Polk would as well.
    So I guess my point is Dwan outplayed them but Eastgate was weak, again why call pre with 2/4 if you’re going to fold trip 2s?

    Had Eastgate only had 100K on the table from the start of the hand, he would probably have won it.

    • @RangeWilson
      @RangeWilson ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He posted about it on 2+2. His flop bet sizing was standard at the time, so there wasn't much question there. His flop call was pretty awful, and the only justification he could give was "Maybe I'll hit an Ace." . Otherwise it came down to a soul read on Dwan, and he just couldn't bring himself to think the kid could be making that kind of move. He said he hadn't considered that maybe Dwan was spazzing with a T because it would block TT, which would be the only justification for a calldown.

    Dwan has a tell. If he raises and the amount after the comma is below 500, his hand is weak. His first raise was $37,300. ,300 is below 500, shows weakness. He’ll have something, but not the nuts.
    Second raise: $104,200. Same thing. ,200 below 500.
    He’s always done this.

    Spoke to Barry G once at a card room in LA during a questions and answer format with the pro's (Barry and Moneymaker), where I specifically asked Barry about playing "high stakes cash games". He responded to me by saying that this HSP series was basically an "info-mercial !" I'm assuming that mean these players were NOT playing for their own real cash, but rather all the cast members (players) were paid a fix amount??! Anyway, that's what I know, even though I assumed, like most anyone, that this was real cash from ea player on the table, unlike what we see on Live at Bike / Hustler. Could be wrong, but I don't think so. Only other option is that they might have played for some sort of tournament payout structure for whoever ended up with biggest win, down to biggest loser. Again. I'm saying this from what Barry said during the questioning I posed after brief questioning. Anyone ever talk to any of these guys might ask em on this, if curious

    This is depressing because i would never have folded either the 2 or the AA, i know it would have worked out this time but hearing doug say what a bad play it is makes me realize how bad at this game i am despite being playing for so long ! I know im way too sticky and im working on it but i wouldnt have even contemplated folding the 2

    • @credittrickscredithacks
      @credittrickscredithacks ปีที่แล้ว +3

      you would be right in not folding the 2. If you watch some calls Doug has made in high stakes pokergo games recently, you would realize Doug does not follow his own advice and he lost a bundle. Also, IF Tom had a 2, and there were still 6 players left to act behind him, WHY would he raise that 2, to get those players OUT???? He wouldn't. He would check that 2, hoping someone behind him would bet. No one should think Tom had a 2

    I would however argue that it’s hard for both eastgate and greenstein to fold here specifically because dwan was a new wave of aggro player that publicized his success on big bets in awkward situations. Dwan could only play ax suited to win. Barry and east gate block most hands. Dwan knows both players value bet their big hands if he checks. It’s a 90% bluff based on his history.

    What makes me laugh is that when this hand initially appeared on youtube, most of the online regs of low/midstakes in the comment section back then thought Peter's fold was atrocious.. when in reality it's even quite debatable wether the flop call is ok. Granted it's not common to have 8-ways online and they would have needed a brain to realize that it's not the same as a hu pot (and as we know most midstakes regs don't really have that).
