Hey don’t worry there was this young guy named Daniel Negreanu, maybe you’ve heard of him, he got totally destroyed on season two of high stakes poker, but he came back to have a pretty decent career
Remembered him immediately. Didn't Berry Greenstain joke back then "I have a tell on Daniel, when he hits the straight - board pairs". He has ran intro quads more than once on that show
He might have heard of him, he only just played him heads up for a 25,000 hand challenge cash game where Polk won a little over a million dollars from Negreanu a couple of years ago.
Doug, thank you for this content. Having come off a session with not 1 but 3 sick ass bad beats, this helped remind me, it's poker and happens to all of us. So thank you for sharing, it really helped me today.
Yes but the number of times that river doesn't come and your trips vs straight which wouldn't have happened if you raised pre and got them out of the pot PLUS The number of times that river doesn't come and you get bluffed off by playing a middling hand passively. PLUS The Money you leave on the table from not building a pot. I mean look here, he three bets maybe Doug calls your 3 bet PLUS makes it a 30k raise instead of 20k based on pot size PLUS calls your raise of 150k instead because in that larger pot it's the same EV and suddenly your up 50k on the same hand because you played proper Means that the 120 you win here isn't as much as you'd win if you just played correct
What a shame!! Instead of going for the "I don't care if he's a businessman that never checkraise bluffs I play balanced and the balanced play is to call so I call", you went for the "Ok the balanced play is to fold here, I have boats, I have better Txs to bluff catch with, but it's Erik Pearsonnnnn, I gotta call" :P

Wow that sarcastic comment in the last 10 seconds of the clip from one of the spectators to Perssons was spot on.... "Hope you didn't injure your wrist turning that hand over so fast"
Watch Persson’s body language right as Doug stands up around 8:20. He is immediately relieved to know that his 3rd nuts is going to be good here and is likely against a straight. He goes for a celebratory drink and then belly laughs at Airball’s comment. To me, this is vital information in this kind of spot.
Absolutely. Great point. He's very comfortable, and unless he's reverse bluffing this body language, he can laugh loosely knowing he's going to win either way- he's just not sure how much he'll win.
Hands like this is why I haven’t played poker in over a year. But at the stakes I play (1/3) I’m usually calling an all in bet or raise on that turn. I bet I can count on one hand how many times I was behind or on a draw calling an all in shove.
