There's a rich jerk with too much time on their hands and low enough self esteem around every corner... they take pride in stepping on other people's lives because they aren't happy with their own. Those are horrible people. Love your videos, I'm inspired.
You rocked that one Chrome!! You and your channel are creating a deeper love for Canada and ALL IT'S People!! (Including the reporters in need of some eye opening hugs) Thanks for keeping it SO cool on this video. I laughed SO loud when you shook us by the neck! Chrome, you're the greatest!
Chrome you did a very good job on this interview. You answers where smart and non-confrontational. You are a great spokesman for Vanlife. I am a snowbird who lives differently than you do, however, we must support each others lifestyle. You can park your home next to our anytime. It would be an honor to have you as a neighbor!
You made some great points and I think you presented the issues in a very fair and open-minded way. Vancouver is such a popular destination for tourists and from near and far. I know that the issue and dialogue around living houseless but not homeless is only just starting. I’m glad that you are a voice of reason and proactive thinking. Cheers!
You are so correct about the whiners in the world. We all need to be respectful and share the love with one another. Thanks for sharing this story. Hopefully it will give everyone a chance to stop and think.....What if I were in the other person's shoes? How would I want to be treated? Share a little kindness with one another. We will all have a better life for doing so : )
Awesome video Chrome...Glad you kept it cool and collective. That guy is a total trouble maker and I am sure that stirring the pot is going to come back and haunt him along the way....I agree about the editors at the paper, simple spin doctors....Have a great week
You said... don't lump us in the same pile... I agree 100% If someone breaks the law go after them, otherwise what's the issue? Until we see the end of the housing crisis in Vancouver you will see an increase in vandwellers.
Timothy Keller Vandweller rent are so expensive I would support van living that obey the law. Rent is crazy in California $3,000 for 3 bedroom apartment
Chrome Dude I can really appreciate what you said bro. When I get my van finished. I am coming to Vancouver dude. I am from Michigan yes the wolverine state go blue. This is the best video I have seen so far.
Well said Chrome! And, way to keep your cool...your calm, respectful approach to the issue makes your point easily taken. 👍. I think there is another issue here that needs some attention...Why is it ok for that guy to sleep with sticks and bricks around him at night and others can't sleep with metal around them....? And, we all as human beings should have access to public land and waterways.....I'm all for private property but this beautiful planet belongs to all of us not just those who choose to or can afford private property. There's enough room in the sandbox for all of us and Chrome, you are a beautiful example of how to play nice. Thank you! 💜💜💜
I am in the US, Texas. I read that article yesterday and wanted to reach out to you. I figured you would see it. Your points in your video are right on.
Great video Chrome! Very proud of you taking the high road! Think that gets the message across so much better and more positive approach. I look at the pictures he had posted really didn't like him showing license plates.
One of the things that happens around here, (and probably a lot of other places), is that business owners and/or campground owners want to keep RV people from avoiding paying for overnight lodging. If you think about it, they really look at it as a source of untapped revenue that should rightly be in their bank accounts. Even big players like KOA, and others are said to be pressuring city councils to change the local laws and ordinances to exclude people from sleeping in their vehicles. This guy may work for, or have a friend or family member who works for, one of those organizations. In many places they have pressured Walmart and other big box stores to stop allowing overnight parking. Why? Because they want you at their for fee motel or campground.
Ooooh I never thought of this. He is a kind of lobbyist, yeah. The park guys want you paying the dollars directly to them and not the coffee shops and laundromats. . Clever. Clever yet mean. .
Love your channel! I’m converting a van as we speak. Keeping it very simple at first and I will make adjustments as I live in it. Everyone thinks I’m nuts and it’s awesome that people like you are out there doing it too! I’m the only person I know who will be living in a van by choice.
Good video Chrome. I have a few regular disrespectful rv and van's in one of my favorite Walmart lots. I get upset about them because they're going to ruin it for us good van dwellers. There was this one family who brought their big rv and parked it at an angle across 6 parking spots. Next they started living like they were at a camping ground. Lawn chairs and garbage all over the place. They even put out a fire ring and had camp fires every night. This lasted three weeks. I just camped at the opposite end of the parking lot. I didn't want to be associated with them by the store manager or law enforcement.
I was dying when you shook the camera😂😂😂 new subscriber I don't know how you came to my TH-cam feeds I'm glad you did man you have inspired me to live that van life I guess the universe connect us weirdos in a weird way much love from Vegas😎
love your videos, We only part time van and love it when me and my wife travel, we have 2400 square foot home in arizoa, We like to fish and we sleep in van to keep us close to water and save time not getting hotel, we spend alot of money last trip we ran our walmart card up a 1000 dollars and bought alot of other stuf, we mostly stay at Walmart and cabbellas and shwer a pure firness with 10 dollar day pass, back to you video . love your message respect people and make where you stay a little cleaner than when you arrived,, again great videos,
Sometimes in life there has to be someone somewhere were people complain... They're not happy unless they make someone miserable. Maybe he wants to get away and he's locked into a life were he can't choose. Don't waist your time getting mad about him. The universe will handle him. Keep doing a great job you're getting good content out there.
Started watching and will continue to do so, but had to stop and pay you a compliment first. You are one fine looking man. I surely hope that your parents are proud of the genes they handed down to you.
Thanks for sharing, unfortunately there are people out there who enjoy making trouble for others. That guy obviously is unhappy in his own life and has to be a hater to others to make himself feel better. As always you are great and inspirational, Chome, thanks for being cool and keeping it real.
Really enjoying your content. If your 100% van life videos are anything like your travel videos - both content and video quality - I can hardly wait for you to go full time.
I love how you turned this into the positive! I can see that your passion and temper are a lot like mine, proud of you for keeping as calm as you did! I know me so I can only imagine lol, anyway, your video's are awesome and inspiring! And y'all (You and Disco) are pretty awesome too!!!Let what negative people say roll off your back like water off a ducks back!!! Stay you, stay beautiful, stay weird!!!
It's looking like most of the commenters on that guy's Instagram are on your side, Chrome! Every pic has a commenter backing the rights of people to park on those streets. They call him a bully among other things. Keep up the POSITVE, Chrome.......
This is what happens when a person just doesn't mind their own darn business. They have one little run in somewhere and now a whole group of innocent people get persecution from it. Sorry this has happened to you. I think what you do is an incredible solution to life. And I thank you for the experience you share because it opens my mind by being exposed to new options. God bless!
Vancity, I'm a new fan and frequent viewer. and I just like to say you did an amazing job at keeping your cool, and articulating yourself very well. Bravo sir! I think that guy is very wrong for The Stance he has taken and the actions that he's putting forth to enforce certain aspects of law. as an American I believe the law in total should be upheld, but we do need to recognize certain lenienceis on things such as van dwelling.
FYI Chrome, as a filmmaker who has done stuff with television, the editor is simply following the flow that the news director tells them to do. The editors are not to blame. It's just the news directors looking to get the best story for the station.
I know a lot of people who think it looks like a fun life. A co-worker had a one year countdown at the office for her retirement into a Class A monster TV. No kidding, the number of days left on the wall. It was kinda cute.
Sometimes people just have to spend a lot of their time, criticizing other peoples lives, basically because they are so unhappy with their own lives. MYOB. (They should mind their own business) Right?? You should "keep on, keeping on" you are doing great!!
I have been involved in a few events that had newspaper coverage in my life. In all cases to date, I read each article and wondered, Was this the same event? Cause that's not what I saw. Regarding the guy. I can get his perspective because he is concerned about his investment in his house.but falsely reporting on Instagram legal parking as illegal is a sick move. You might want to consider writing an editorial reply to the article showing some of the inconsistencies. I had written one years ago and it was published. Journalism used to present both sides of a story and let the consumer make the decision. Opinion or editorial was clearly defined as such. Today almost every article is an opinion. Sad really.
Sehr tolles Video.
Who seconds this nomination? Chrome, for a self-proclaimed nomadic weirdo, you sure are a class act. I hope the reporter can assemble & release the positives from the editing room floor. I nominate you for BC & Vancouver Tourism`s Best Promoter & Ambassador of Tourism & Staycationing! A few days ago, while looking for a great deal on a van to convert into my adventure wheels & forever home, I stumbled upon your Chromtastic, Chromatic, Charismatic, Discotastic show & tell, on minimalist vandwelling & living to the fullest each day, which has had me binge watching your videos ever since. Speaking as a Northeastern Ontarian who at different times has travelled to several parts of BC, worked & lived in Vancouver & Area, I hope British Columbians & Vancouverites can appreciate, as I do, how impressively you capture the gloriousness of BC & Vancouver with your images & spoken words.
You are an amazing ambassador for Vancouver and living free. As you said you also contribute to your local economy and pay your taxes and obey the by-laws. I think that you should simply keep on doing what you are doing and spreading positive, uplifting messages. First of all newspapers do not make money on good news stories, but they do on controversial issues. Secondly, the man with the Instagram account will never understand people who choose Van life, or anything else for that matter. He is solely focused on making the city councillors draw up new by-laws to accommodate HIMSELF. Unfortunately the "greasy wheel gets the grease", even if it is only 1 person out of hundreds of thousands, that complain.
Glad you are keeping calm. He has a twitter page as well. Like you said as long as they are parking responsibly it is none of his business, it is public property or people have permission to be there if needed. These vanners might be relief workers for the Red Cross White Doves, Habitat for Humanity, Herbalist Without Borders, film crews, tourists, people working in the area or living their lives being weird and wonderful. I do know what it is like to live in a place where you are afraid to go out. The going to the bathroom and yelling at him and his family is unacceptable and should be dealt with, but just existing and that not being okay is ridiculous and creepy. By not making the distinction between that situation and people just being there weakens his case (hopefully). Keep safe, hope they don't start moving people on just for being in his world. xx
Clearly, this is an emotional and hot topic and I feel compelled to weigh in on the end result. I love my van and am a weirdo. I followed this channel back before it even hit 1000! Chrome and Disco have helped to change thousands of lives for the better. They are positive ambassadors for van life and life in general. I love Chrome and Disco and they will have a place to visit when they get down this way in Surf City USA. But people do not learn from history. The few will always mess it up for the many, or maybe in this case the many for the few. All the eyesore vehicles, litter-bugs, and abusers will ruin van life for Vancouver and other large cities forever. Also there are only so many streets and parking spaces, it is not unlimited. Buildings can go up 50 floors, but streets and parking are finite. Laws in and around my area, are getting stricter all of the time. You used to be able to park at the Walmart’s, but now no more. 20’ limits on vehicles in many neighborhoods. No more RV parking in some cities. No RV’s in driveways in some cities. No RV’s in front of homes for loading for more than 2 days. No overnight sleeping in vehicles. No street parking at all, in some cities. As it has happened before, the few abusers will ruin it for the rest. The students, the minimalists, the true stealth van lifers and those who are trying to save, pay off debt and improve their lives will all pay the price of removal. The only way to save van life in Vancouver is to remove the abusers and that just is not going to happen. Cities will clean up van life off the streets to keep property values up, to keep tax revenues up and keep the abusers out. I just hope I can get up there and visit before it is too late.
Well said Chrome👍, some people just like to be negative about things they don't really agree with or undrestand. But you bring the positive and a real perspective on Van life, as you say be respectful don't break law, and your no different from any other House owning Condo owning citizen who pays there taxes. 👌😎
as usual the media only covers and sensationalises the symptoms of an issue and not the cause, housing has become completely impractical as a solution financially which ironically is why some people have a problem with van dwellers. The level of sacrifice required for someone to be in a house makes them resentful of others not making the same sacrifice to live near by.
That didn’t take long for media to start demonizing van dwellers. I’m hearing all through the west coast. People are being ticketed for sleeping in their cars, home owners ticketed for renting out their driveway. A lot of van dwellers don’t have a choice. Homes are largely unaffordable now and many aging Americans can only afford this lifestyle. But they got to stay somewhere, even if that means encroaching in communities that don’t like it.
Thanks Chrome, awesome video. I appreciate the amount of time that you've put into this video and editing. Your absolutely right about this whole situation. I want to drive my camper from Toronto to Vancouver, and spend my money there...plus the high costs of getting there. Im just saying. I don't think that this one person is going to make a difference, he's just a very unhappy person. I feel sorry for him more than anything. Keep staying weird Chrome, Cheers.
Well said Chrome and Kickin' Asphalt...what can I say you keep doing what you do. Sorry for this guy he seems and sounds like a very angry, jealous and deeply sad soul.
I wonder what he could accomplish with all that energy if he directed it on the real crisis: unaffordable housing and stagnant wages. Oh well, you can lead a f&€ktard to water but you can’t drown ‘em. 😁
A quick search brought up this info about parking in Vancouver on streets with no signs. I'm surprised all van dwellers aren't clear on the rule. Not all parking rules in the City of Vancouver require signed zones. Street and lane regulations are enforced under Street and Traffic Bylaw 2849. Street-parking violations Three hour bylaw: Parking next to properties in which you live or work Section 17.6 (f): Between 8am and 6pm every day, do not park your vehicle for more than 3 hours in front of residential or commercial properties that you do not own or work at. The 3-hour bylaw restricts non-resident parking to a maximum of 3 hours to allow daytime access for residents to their homes and for business owners and employees to their workplaces. So, no you can't park overnight on streets with no signs prohibiting it. It's aleady covered :(
just love your positive outlook and i am always proud of the dignity you give van life. do it right so the negative people out there don't have a leg to stand on and just look like the negative haters that they are, show them the right way to do things. unfortunately there will always be negative people in all things, just outshine them with the positive. love it
I'm proud of you for keeping your cool. There is always going to be a person, a group, etc. who will have issue with everything, no matter how respectful or within legalities other people do things. I would have been like you and needed several video takes to work out the anger before I could be calm enough to address it like you did. I feel you spoke your truth with grace.... can't ask for anything more. JustinCredible had his say about this guy this morning too. Mark Roger's might have just wrote a check that Karma will cash...lol Go find a peaceful spot to get some rest tonight. Much love to you and Disco 😎
Also, you did a very good job of remaining calm and making your (excellent) points. I’m impressed. I wouldn’t have been able to stay that level headed lol
I just checked out his Instagram, seems since you called him out, he has stopped posting shortly after. Guess he learned that van/rv/car/truck dwellers are not homeless idiots...All the comments I read where pretty polite, a few called him names but not to harsh... got to love smart phone technology!!! Lol... makes exposure of stupudity easily fixed!
Inherently the word squatter is only applicable to a person performing an intrusive and or illegal action at the inconvenience or expense of others. RVing be it in a big rig or just a van does not infringe on others or have the intent to be contrary to any law whatsoever. In fact its intent is to obey the law and is protected in fact by the law.
freaking perfect video no professional could have said all of it better I think you should have 2 million viewers watch your channel but I know you're one of the nicest people I have come across on TH-cam now let's be honest seriously honestly.... in my life and you 'are' an ambassador for the many many many wonderful go getting inspirational brave people that take a step into the unknown into van life and persevere turning the other cheek on so many occasions because of the wonderful people they are obviously There again the few people that do spoil it!!!..... there's people like that in every Walk of Life.... not just van life..... like this man you're talking about-he's one of the few that spoil it for the many who will chat to people and if those people happen to live in a van so be it. if they're nice people- they're just nice people. respectful people.... are just respectful. they don't become respectful because they live in a brick mansion. they become that way because of who they are inside, not of what they 'live inside' This was one of your best videos Powerful and perfectly presented Congratulations Chrome my hero Oh yes PS and disco the Superdog obviously he is my superhero I mean seriously guys come on he's amazingly well behaved he even keeps his little podgy paws off the non dog friendly beaches even though you can see he's dying to go on the beach Vancouver is lucky to have 🐕🚐🙇 Not so lucky to have complaining Van Man😡🗣
I think that this "guy" needs to have his head read ! You are right Chrome ! He does it for sensationalism and to get people stirred up. There is nothing wrong with your opinion on Vanlife.... you rock! Obey the parking bylaws and vandwellers will not have a problem. Don't let him get to you. hugs to you both
Hi Chrome. Excellent discussion about the vandwelling issue in Vancouver. I have been thinking about this issue since I first started following full time van dwellers a few years back. One aspect which you overlooked is that the public space is generally paid for by real estate taxes. Nobody is complaining for instance than van dwellers overuse the health system or the education system or the transportation systems. In my community we have a similar problem with university students who overuse our services like police services. Is it that bad...YES it is. As a law abiding citizen, property tax paying citizen who doesn’t overuse services I have an issue with this. That said there is an economic driving force that underpins the full timing lifestyle that cannot be ignored. Our cities in Canada have unsustainable real estate and rental prices that just keep skyrocketing. Im sure there would be a large full timing contingent in Toronto for instance if the climate was more conducive. I am moving toward being a part time full timer very soon and will certainly follow the rules wherever I am like I do on my other travels around the world.
You seem to astound me you are truly an awesome person who make me want to move to Vancouver n leave this be God forsaken NYC no van Dwelling here in this city maybe up in the boondocks love u n keep bringing on the best videos I've seen n believe me I've seen so many gbu

Well done Chrome.... totally with you

You are fantastic.
Sorry i had to laugh. You said everything right. thanks. I loved the shaking moment. You tell him. I loved it all of it.
You are an amazing ambassador for van and rv dwellers! Luv your videos. 💛💚💙❤️

Sorry, but that's crossing the line of freedom. They'll still make plenty of money from rv'ers wanting the luxuries of a campground.

And...Chrome for city council? How about Mayor! 😎
This needs to go viral.
Typical media hype. Totally agree
Similar story happening in Bristol in the UK. Rent too high so a lot of van dwellers but now there a conflict between them and brick dwellers.
There will always be someone who is misrable in their own life that will take it out on the people around them. You do you babe.
… if I complain about van dwellers will you give me a hug and a kiss too????? lol! You did a great job in the interview.
Well said Chrome
Street-parking violations
Three hour bylaw: Parking next to properties in which you live or work
Section 17.6 (f): Between 8am and 6pm every day, do not park your vehicle for more than 3 hours in front of residential or commercial properties that you do not own or work at.
The 3-hour bylaw restricts non-resident parking to a maximum of 3 hours to allow daytime access for residents to their homes and for business owners and employees to their workplaces.
So, no you can't park overnight on streets with no signs prohibiting it. It's aleady covered :(
Yep, you're right on. All the news wants to do is stir the pot and put out as much negativity as possible.
Loved it when you shook the camera. Funny!
Great video there's good and bad in all walks of life chrome is a good guy XXX
Nice way to take him down with facts, not hate! 👍
Hahaha, you can take negitive and turn it into love and a hug. Well done! I gotta ask...where's Disco?
just love your positive outlook and i am always proud of the dignity you give van life. do it right so the negative people out there don't have a leg to stand on and just look like the negative haters that they are, show them the right way to do things. unfortunately there will always be negative people in all things, just outshine them with the positive. love it
Thanks for sharing your journey love yah Chrome and Disco
I'm proud of you for keeping your cool. There is always going to be a person, a group, etc. who will have issue with everything, no matter how respectful or within legalities other people do things. I would have been like you and needed several video takes to work out the anger before I could be calm enough to address it like you did. I feel you spoke your truth with grace.... can't ask for anything more.
JustinCredible had his say about this guy this morning too. Mark Roger's might have just wrote a check that Karma will cash...lol
Go find a peaceful spot to get some rest tonight. Much love to you and Disco 😎
Awesome. I heard about you so I subscribed. Glad I did.
Someone should invite him for a day in van life .. he might just convert : )
Preach brotha...i just watched the clip of the interview after work today.
LOL you grabbed the camera by the throat!!
Wonderfully stated, Chrome
You always manage to make a bed of roses out of a pile of ...
That's why we love you!!!
Great response presentation!
Inherently the word squatter is only applicable to a person performing an intrusive and or illegal action at the inconvenience or expense of others. RVing be it in a big rig or just a van does not infringe on others or have the intent to be contrary to any law whatsoever. In fact its intent is to obey the law and is protected in fact by the law.
freaking perfect video no professional could have said all of it better I think you should have 2 million viewers watch your channel but I know you're one of the nicest people I have come across on TH-cam now let's be honest seriously honestly.... in my life and you 'are' an ambassador for the many many many wonderful go getting inspirational brave people that take a step into the unknown into van life and persevere turning the other cheek on so many occasions because of the wonderful people they are obviously
There again the few people that do spoil it!!!..... there's people like that in every Walk of Life.... not just van life..... like this man you're talking about-he's one of the few that spoil it for the many who will chat to people and if those people happen to live in a van so be it. if they're nice people- they're just nice people. respectful people.... are just respectful. they don't become respectful because they live in a brick mansion. they become that way because of who they are inside, not of what they 'live inside'
This was one of your best videos Powerful and perfectly presented
Congratulations Chrome my hero
Oh yes PS and disco the Superdog obviously he is my superhero I mean seriously guys come on he's amazingly well behaved he even keeps his little podgy paws off the non dog friendly beaches even though you can see he's dying to go on the beach
Vancouver is lucky to have 🐕🚐🙇
Not so lucky to have complaining Van Man😡🗣
I think that this "guy" needs to have his head read ! You are right Chrome ! He does it for sensationalism and to get people stirred up. There is nothing wrong with your opinion on Vanlife.... you rock! Obey the parking bylaws and vandwellers will not have a problem. Don't let him get to you. hugs to you both
I love you chrome! I hope I get to meet you someday.
He's just mad he can't start up the engine in his home and go wherever he'd like!
Calm....Chrome.....Calm.......Well explained and done video mate, totally agree with your viewpoint.
Love your responds to hatred... just give em a hug! Yas!
