You saved the life of one of my best friends. 6 weeks ago I got a phone call from my friend who spent a half hour saying her farewells. I told her to hold on. I told her we should change her life. Give her the biggest change ever. I had lived in the back of my truck for 6 months and my life has never been better. I did a quick van life search on TH-cam. Your "Cost Of Living Minimal In A Van. " video showed up. She watched it and called me back with some excitement in her voice. Sh has watched your shows. She is selling everything she has and is also looking for a van. I thank you for helping my friend choose life. You are her Angel. Thank you.
Beautiful! I feel like this is what everyone should do if they are at wits end. Get rid off all your stuff, buy a van and start simple. Drive to a beach or mountain and wait for inspiration.,
🚐 Freedom! 🚐 Freedom from narcissistic family. 🚐 Freedom from noisy neighbors. 🚐 Freedom from housing expenses & tethers. 🚐 Freedom to travel. 🚐 Freedom to meet new people. 🚐 Freedom to be creative! 🚐 Freedom to be effing happy! 🚐 Freedom to be in nature more often! 🚐 Freedom to just LIVE life! and spend it as i see fit!! ... and so on ... i will have a van one day ... still saving for it ... ♥️🚐🎞 ♥️🐶😎
Chrome, I totally relate. It is hard to describe how awesome this lifestyle feels. I started my vanlife journey out to save money and take some time off just for the summer, but I had no idea how much more fulfilling this lifestyle would be. YOU ARE SO RIGHT! I love the freedom to escape the world when I need to and to have comfort of home anywhere I go. I am so grateful to have met you and other cool vancity peeps. IT IS AWESOME! III
I too, am debt free. I built my van to satisfy my neurosis and create my own personal escape pod. I suppose it's a fail-safe for me. When the wheels fall off traditional life for me, I'll have the van. I have academic goals that I want to achieve and I don't want super high rent payments looming at the beginning of the month. The biggest factor of why I'm not in the van is the climate I live in. It's miserable hot in the summer and bitter cold in the winter...as far as I know, the climate is only going to become more extreme. I have a decent agreement with a friend for now, where I'm staying but I'm unsure of how long it will last. In the meantime, I'm purging all non-essential items.
Well done! I pretty much achieved almost exactly the same, had $15000 debt on my credit card due to high rent and no full time work and sat in my car and took off and 2 years down the track paid off everything and have thousands in saving for the 1st time in the last 5 years, it's been an amazing journey and still is, my home is everywhere I park and I am happy and stress free
30 years ago I read about a couple who lived two years in a van to paint... and returned to their stick n brick with money in the bank and income, improved skills, and no day job. Lots of life later, I am looking at living in a van, and started watching TH-cam. Started saving for a van, and thinking if I want to sell out or not. Easier financially if I sell. At 64 I have mowed enough yards to satisfy anyone. I have camped, hiked, traveled plenty. Lots of adventures! Worked, raised kids, etc. But... early retirement dropped my income and no $ for adventures. Without deciding, I am slowly prepping my place for sale or rent.
Thats awesome brother true financial freedom. I am still working right now as a Gov contractor on a boat for the Navy. I litterly paid off 3 credit cards this morning. I was able to do that because I moved into my Honda accord I am on the boat most of the time so it only made since to not pay rent. I canceld my cable as well this morning it all feels soooo liberating. The van is on the not to distant horizon thx to you and your channel thx for all you do for everyone.
Got rid of my car & bought my van last Saturday. 2005 ford e350 sd wagon. Looking to have it livable by the end of next week, no big build, simple start up. Using a week vacation time to get it ready. I can't wait to see my debt getting less & less til I am debt free. So much I want to do but the debt! So I'm done with the rent payments & not enjoying life like I want. So excited to go vanlife & knowing I will be able tor get out of debt & go places.
Doing a happy dance. Congratulations. Were building a van now to travel our beautiful country. Jan 2020 I will be done my breast cancer treatment. Hopefully hitting the road then. Congratulations again on your achievement of being debt free.
Congrats on being debt free. That was on my bucket list & I've achieved it already. Also needed to have some $$ in reserve so I will never be in the position I was in a few years ago. Being destitute is a horrible feeling that nobody should ever have to go through, although it does build character. Best wishes to all!
I literally just paid off 7k I had on a credit card today after breakfast! Feels SO GREAT! Rock on, glad I found this channel, can't wait to see more friend!
Chrome, in a few months (November the 3rd) I will be unemployed due to being made redundant. I have been watching your channel and a few others and decided to get a small van and kit it out very basically. Slowly my basic needs are being catered for and hopefully I will be ready to become nomadic by the time my employment ends. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!! I can spend more time being chilled with my dog Ben and enjoying life :-)
oh wow!!! Congratulations!!!! I'm doing this too and your talking about it makes me more confident! This rent payment for September is the last rent payment I will make and then I'm in my van full time. I am so happy for you!!!
Congratulations my friend. Also looks like the city boy is loving the country. Next thing you know you're going to be listening to country music like me. Hahaha try it.
Sooo many reasons to do van life. For me, the whole package - money freedom, enjoying nature, adventures, travel, inner peace, living on my own terms, everything!
You should make a short movie about your life as the main character & upload it to TH-cam. I really think your story is great and worthy a WATCH. It would draw a lot of people in
Whoop whoop well done dude I’m in it for the pure joy of it and the pleasure of building out vans you inspired me to pickup my phone and start my own channel so thank you and good luck
Hi Chrome, we finally did it. We sold our house and used the proceeds to buy a small VW LT 35. Out of the house on Tuesday...then the hiccup...hospital on Saturday, discharge on condition yesterday but still quite unwell and facing a recovery of at least two months but at least I've got a new view everyday and I'd rather be here than stuck in hospital. But it bought home the fact that I had done plenty of research and knew how to operate most things and where we can legally park etc but hubby hadnt and suddenly he had to cope with picking up our wee rig and making things work without me...a good reminder that as a couple we both need to know how everything works just in case.
Me and my wife have lived in a tent for a year we both work fulltime my wife is a manger and I work at a bicycle shop I can work 70 hours a week if I want we have learned a lot in the year we are now a few months away from our van and I couldn't be happier I love the outdoors I love it all and I cant wait for our van !!!!
Congrats Chrome being debt free, I hear you Bro, I too had a mountain of debt which I had to clear before leaving the UK to move to Finland, but un be known to me, when I moved to Finland to marry my wife who I met on the web, I then undertook her debt, €34k worth. I managed to clear that debt within the first six months of our marriage. When I left the UK, I left far more that my life, I had four garages, four classic cars, they were not only my pride and joys, but my life, I put blood seat and tears into each car, and to sell them broke my heart. This story can continue when we meet up face to face, Chrome, look forward to meeting you and Disco!
Debt free, new and beautiful places to wake up every day, inner peace. You rocked it Chrome. Congratulations. I looked at high top vans today. Long for the freedom you are already experiencing.
Woop woop 🙌🏼 congrats Chrome! Debt Free is AMAZING!! We should be 100% debt free next year, and are SO looking forward to it. So happy for you, debt freedom takes such a huge burden off your shoulders. Safe travels!
Must be a good feeling. I'm selling everything myself, I sold my classic car, speed boat, fishing boat, paddle boat and canoes. Big power tools and most of my furniture. I made myself a bachelor pad and rented the main portion of my home. I'm building a skoolie and if I don't need it in the bus, the rest of my stuff is gone. I want to live simple and travel. Thanks for sharing your accomplishment.
Peace & contentment... You got it, Chrome. Enjoy! You've earned it. I respect your concept of home... it makes sense. And what an amazing feeling to be home everywhere you go.
Your journey has inspired many, including me. Thanks for sharing it on TH-cam and giving lots of people a fresh way of seeing life & living. My plans to live in my van are delayed a bit, and I'm rather impatient to get started (again!), but I'll get there eventually. Super pumped that you're debt free and still feeling the pump of van life -- congrats!
Congrats Chrome! You're no longer enslaved to debt. I'll be moving into van life to avoid Los Angeles rent. 1K-1.5K gets you dwellings where one would rather not wake up each day to support. LA is tough but btwn the beaches, mountains, and friends it looks doable. Thanks for the inspirong vids!!!
Congratulations, on being debt free.. I too paid off 1 of my debt. But in order to pay off that debt. I use some the 5k’s money I had took loan & brought with the 2002 Ford e-150 van to start van life. Now I’m $4,960 in debt. Which I will try pay off quickly next year. Cheer to being debt free
We often find ourselves accumulating "things", and the debt that comes with them. Then at some point we wake up to the gut-churning reality of our situation and say "this wasn't in the brochure!!!" We downsized from 2100 sq. ft. to 1320 to 812, and then rented out the 812sq. ft. and moved into a twin slide 34 ft. Class A. When you live without many things you didn't need to begin with, you find out how many things you don't need. We traveled from Squamish to Maine, swam in the Atlantic and ate some lobster, then came back via Texas. Freeeeeedom! Congratulations on the debt freedom Chrome. It's amazing how much freer your breathing is yeah? By the way, check out the 1300 block Crown St. NV. I can't read the parking restriction signs from Google maps, but I used to hang out there and swim in Lynn Creek with the dog.
Lyrics to a song I learned as a child...about the age of my grandchild fits here:. Take care to WONDER in this world in which you WANDER; never hurry by an open door for we live in a universe filled with miracles galore! TGFM! Blessings today and tomorrows!
And this is what is drawing me to this life. Every point you make. And even more, because my experience will be different from everyone else’s once I get there. I need to work towards that peace.
I am officially your 800th 👍🏽! Thats got to be one of the best reasons to do Van life dude. No rent. No utilities. No cable. Etc. Yea, theres gas, car insurance, but compared to the tens of thousands we pay for rent. Good for you! Landlords have become more greedy over the years. You cant anything cheap anymore. ✌🏽
Congrats on your debt free Chrome! I wish I was debt free like you. I need to start a change and be debt free. Enjoy your day you and Disco, he is so funny and love your awesome personality.
Hey yens! I'm n a 50/50 lifestyle. Half the time n my driveway n my van-the other half n my mobile home-tryn 2 get it lined up-either 2 sell or keep as a back up. I'm n the country-1 neighbor (recently my x-but we're friends-that helps sum) but the allimony is ruff w do both-plus it'll be getn cold here shortly. I'm kinda stuk-what feels secure over the unknown van life style. Ur 'FIRE' makes me wanna sell and 'BLAZE' a new trail!! U giving me more confidence everyday! Ur still Rockin my day!
Ok so first all I know this is 2 years old, yes I’m a newer subscriber and just saw this however I still have to comment because I know exactly how you feel bro. I fixed up my house and sold it last year and was able to pay off 15grand in debt as well, it most definatly is the greatest feeling ever. When you and or your significant other work everyday and you just keep going further backwards and also wasting tons of money on interests alone, Then it really makes life more enjoyable and exciting. I really would love to do the van life if I was single for multiple reasons, I’ve really been wanting to travel lots in the past few years, but I would also love to do it to save money as well, I think all around it would just be amazing meeting people seeing places. I am very happy for you man and to see how far you’ve come to today is amazing keep doing what your doing. Enjoy life to the fullest!!
Congrats, Chromee! Way to bee free of debt and the rest! Hug the pupz 4 me! Sounds like a good time for a "Timmie's".....lol.....back van door opened and tootsees showin' out dah back...lol.....like a no joke, not so broke, BOSS of a DJ. Have q great weekend. 😎
Home is where you make it! Congrats on paying off your debt, it’s so powerful because it peels off what you are not, and exposes who you are. 👍. Congrats and hugs to that sweet little Disco ❤️
I have been and still am in debt for more than I can pay for on my income. I have done all that I can to earn a secure income. I have a few more things left to sell. The $$$ from the sale of my stuff, should leave me with enough to trade my current vehicle, in for van that I can build a home in. Your channel and several others, has helped me find a way out of stress, worry and a depression that crippled me from believing that I am worthy happiness. I've been purging for months, some of the stuff that I sold was tough to let go of, worst was selling my kayak. I consoled myself with the fact that 10 years ago, I had never been in a kayak or thought about owning one, they aren't that hard to get, mine would not have worked for my me and my dog anyway, I couldn't load it on the roof of a van, and I stayed confident, that if I really, really wanted to kayak again, it would happen. Thanks for sharing and helping to keep my dream alive.
Awesome!!! It feels great doesn't it!! I was dancing a jig sending in my last payment. And I'm never looking back. I'm truly FREE! Just gas insurance and phone. But who doesn't pay for those anyhow?. Food I will never consider debt. We gotta eat right. But that feeling that nothing can hold me back is the most amazing thing I've felt in 20 year's. Just wait until the van's paid off and then it's a couple hundred bucks a month to live well. Congratulations Chrome! Beeps.
Awesome dude i havent had debt for several years now but I do know how vexing it was to have money come in to one hand and straight out the other. I have a very limited income....for now and always try to live within my means, it feels so liberating not having all the material posessions hanging around my neck like a ball and chain, minimalism and vanlife is definitely the way forward for us. I believe it was Lao Tzu that said "If you had to carry everything you ever wanted would you still want it......Wise Man! Anyways Thanks for another inspirational Vlog and keep em coming we love You and Disco Stay loose dude and enjoy everything life offers you
Congratulation chrome. The best feeling in the world is to know you can get up next morning and there is no one you owe money to. True you hv you van payments, but as you said, it’s you rent place. Where you live. Stay weird and congratulations.
grts man. i cant wait until i head out in february. i just cant keep working these hard jobs anymore. i hurt everywhere to much. i need to spend less so i can work less. not to mention i am already a nomad at heart. plus i have been living these last 5 years in a tiny apartment already.
So proud of you!! I'm catching up on the last month or so of videos now, I hate that I missed this in August! lol You know I love ya, man, life's just been busy.. so proud of you!
congrats on getting out of debt, I want to do the van life thing so bad but I have collections of things (mostly classic cars) that I just cant let go of yet. love the channel
#congratulations Chrome. Epic. I got into converting my van to have more adventures with my wife. But I certainly see the advantages of full time living in the van.
Congrats! Im getting into it for a change in my life to reinvent or find my real self. To see my country. And to have adventures. Im 57 and have never had adventures. Im learning so much about life and leaning on myself for the first time. It feels great.
Congratulations for finally being debt free. That is so great. I will drink a tequila in your honor to toast u (as soon as I get back to civilization and a liquor store). I am extremely proud of u! Hugs to u both
I lived in my car because of money. I have to admit, it wasn't my choice, but I did enjoy it. If I could, I would but a van and travel but for me, living in a car was bad but only because I didn't have a lot of space. Van would be so much better. Thankfully the housing center has temporarily put me up so I don't have to worry right now. (I'm disabled so waiting on disability to come through....been 4 years and still waiting).
Get a lawyer who specializes in disability to get that disability for you. They only get paid if and when you get disability, and then only the amount established by law. Well worth it. I had mine only a few months after I hired him! Best wishes.
@@nancyellis497 thanks. I actually have 2 attorneys. My education and age (38) plays against me though. I think that's why it keeps being denied. I have MRI and other doctor documentation. I just need medicaid to get my issues fixed. I'm hoping to get off disability once I am healed and use my education. Getting a judge to understand that is not easy unfortunately.
Woo Hoo! You are really free now Chrome! :-) I'm still trying to convince hubby to give up the shackles of a home/yard/dead end jobs, but he doesn't want to make the jump until we are in our 60's heck - that might be too late by then. I want to do it for the adventure, the money, the travel, and to take our business across the US. I just have to keep trying to convince him NOW and not LATER.
Congratulations Chrome! That is totally awesome for you and Disco. Good things are coming your way, you have opened the door to a brand new life. Cheers!
So so happy for you!!!! I was at dead end job trying to figure up payments on money I had even made yet. When it was over you could smack the smile of my face. Go ahead sing, dance. Buy yourself something pretty.
Congrats ! It must be a great feeling not owing ! This is my second time around living the Nomad life and woundnt change it for anything . I got in it to destress , enjoy the freedom it offers and the money saving is just a bonus ! I plan on living this way this time around as long as i can !
congrads chrome freedom is yours. i will find out tomm if my van is an embreo yet the dealership told me last week is is scheduled to begin being built mid sept i cant wait

Congrats, on taking action and hitting your debt free goal! Is a beautiful peace of mind to be
Congratulations Chrome, it's the best feeling to be debt free.
Ur still Rockin my day!
your the best bro,,you inspire so many around the world,,,get your ass down to florida,i can only hold these women off for so long,,love ya man.
👍. Congrats and hugs to that sweet little Disco ❤️
freedom-joy-joy-joy
Hell yeah man! Keep doing what you’re doing
Well done, Chrome!! You lightened your load in more ways than one.
Wish I could hug you and disco glad you look and feel better today XXX
Sooooo very happy for U to be free of your debt! 🙌 What a great feeling right! I am so glad U found "home". 💚🚐
Good job, me and my wife about to start van life, keep up all the good work, we look you ever day
Beeps.
All of the above...travel, freedom and adventure....love your journey, very inspiring🤗🥰😘😘😘
Anyways Thanks for another inspirational Vlog and keep em coming we love You and Disco
Stay loose dude and enjoy everything life offers you
Free at last! BTW, the soothing river noise is the most beautiful background music for a video!
Congrats Chrome!
Congratulation chrome. The best feeling in the world is to know you can get up next morning and there is no one you owe money to.
True you hv you van payments, but as you said, it’s you rent place. Where you live.
Stay weird and congratulations.
Woo-Hoo!!!!!! Congrats!!!! What an accomplishment!
grts man. i cant wait until i head out in february. i just cant keep working these hard jobs anymore. i hurt everywhere to much. i need to spend less so i can work less. not to mention i am already a nomad at heart. plus i have been living these last 5 years in a tiny apartment already.

And now to adventure and play every single day! Congrats and thanks for sharing. Melinda x
congrats on getting out of debt, I want to do the van life thing so bad but I have collections of things (mostly classic cars) that I just cant let go of yet. love the channel
I’m seriously jealous Chrome... I’ve bought a Ducato and have started the build. Looking forward to some adventure... you’re an inspiration 👊🏻👍🏻
Congratulations. You worked hard to pay off that burden. Well done! 😎🐶🚐
In Many western country rent is so expensive , sometimes u have no choice . for u can save some money .
That's awesome.
Congratulations Chrome! That is totally awesome for you and Disco. Good things are coming your way, you have opened the door to a brand new life. Cheers!
Way to go! I aspire to be in your position one day. I hope you roll that payment you were making into the van payment.
Congratulations Chrome ! that is AWESOME ! I'm glad things are working out for you. much love to you and Disco ! keep it weird ! 👍👍
So so happy for you!!!! I was at dead end job trying to figure up payments on money I had even made yet. When it was over you could smack the smile of my face. Go ahead sing, dance. Buy yourself something pretty.
