As you were doing this video, I was looking behind you as you were talking and thinking....this is a bad ass home you have! Look at all people have spent a small fortune to get their home.....and just look at yours! It is the best one I have seen. It is such a cool, clean, modern looking place. Beautiful! You should be very proud of yourself! Love to you and to Disco
That is SO awesome! I quit my "Canadian Life" 4 years ago. I sold my Edmonton condo (furnished), sold & gave away all my "stuff" & set out on a new adventure. So far, I have visited 34 countries. Right now, I am in Taipei, Taiwan. On Thursday, I will head to Seoul, South Korea, which is my last stop on this "2017/2018 Around the World Adventure" that I did to celebrate my 60th birthday! NOTHING could have prepared me for HOW free I feel. I would not trade the last 4 years for anything that I had in the first 56. lol! I have a small Canadian pension that can take me around the world but, in the summers when I go back to Edmonton, it would be gone in 8-10 days if I had to pay for accommodation. *I have great friends who welcome me every summer. I am SO much less concerned with money & I have a new superpower: Solo Travel. Never, ever stop exploring HOW far you can push the envelop. Love your story!
Vanlife is definitely agreeing with you, your bank balance and your health. Disco is also enjoying spending more time with you... bonus all around. I can tell that you have slowed down quite a bit since starting vanlife, you seem less busy and more relaxed. Great stuff. Hugs to u both
How are all these Canadians getting Green Cards to work in the US? I looked into traveling cross country and it was so complicated because you have to pay taxes in each state you work in even if it is just for one day. If you are physically in that state and working you have to pay taxes.
Isn't Vanlife great 👍,, 63 yr old retired and absolutely loving my solo nomadic lifestyle!! Best thing I've ever done. I'm finally #Living for me!! Your videos have been so inspirational to me,,, Thank you!!!
Woohoo! I'm all caught up after binge watching from the beginning. The math makes perfect sense to me but I have to save the money to purchase the van and that'll take a little while. Thanks for the info, love watching you and Disco!
Thank you. This little chat is exactly the conversation i needed. I live in Chicago and am planning a van life. I'm a life coach helping to end homelessness and I want to travel doing it. I'm really excited and grateful for inspirations like you. :-)
18:49 Yes, people need to wake up to the fact that your thoughts become your reality. If you think negative thoughts, you attract negative events. If you live in fear, you attract fearful things. Living in gratitude and positivity will bring you your best life. #Peace #Love #NoFear #LawOfAttraction
The changes in your Vibration and Aura are crazy noticeable since you started. Well Done! Now, if only the remaining 7 billion of us smarten up enough to do the same ...This would be one awesome world to live in. We have the power to change our lives, and you've proven that without a shadow of a doubt.
Bro, you are forgetting one thing, a 1000watt ebike, I built mine for $400.00 bucks. That right bro, you can commute on free electricity by using solar on your van to charge your ebike. Trust me, you'll love it.
Hey, Chrome! Been watching you for almost 2 months. I'm amazed about your Van Life and you never disappoint me in each every upload you got. I'm starting to watch it all from the start. Thanks!
And Boom!! Lol... I like that. Great info it should help alot of people wanting to get into van life, I know it's helpful for me. Thanks chrome for all these informational videos it great to have someone like you out there,i know there's plenty other people that do this but you make cool and fun to watch plus you have great music... Take care and God bless.... Disco just be chillin while you take care of things... Haha! He knows you got it under control but he's there if you need him... Lol. Haha!!
New to this canner. Seems to be a nice, smart, personable guy. I had to LISTEN to most of it because I got seasick trying to "watch"...way too much camera movement! But he's so very right...van life is in my VERY NEAR future & I can't wait for my "lift off" into a more peaceful & happy lifestyle!!!
Love your peace about van life...I just gave my notice from a 15 year RN management job ..last day is December 8th, I'm taking the winter to brush up on direct care nursing then in April we are doing it, getting 2 vans one for me and the puppy I'm getting for Christmas and 2nd van for my 29 yr old son.. so we have our own space but travel together...this is the lifestyle I've wanted for 20 yrs and I'm finally doing it ! Thanks for the encouragement 😁
We used to struggle with day to day costs too. As the years progressed and hub's wages improved, we started to put an emergency 'buffer' aside . It has saved the day several times. Even if you think you wont need it as you and the van are covered, remember about Disco and possible Vet visits, especially when he gets older xx
Not only did you eliminate your high expenses, you freed yourself from the day to day burden of a 40+ hour a week job. Van life to me is not only about the money , it's about the freedom you have gained. Even if it cost you a little more then expected. You live a life thats free of the every day 9-5 grind. You live the best life Chrome, embrace it. 😎
This is exactly why I want to start van life. I will be 50 in 2020 and my goal is to have our house sold and van purchased and ready to hit the road by the end of that year. I am so tired of working every day for what? retirement? I'm not guaranteed to live to see retirement! So I work through all my "good" years to HOPEFULLY travel later. Nope! I'm over this traditional way of thinking!
I am currently saving up to buy myself a small fiberglass trailer to pull behind my Jeep. I cannot wait to escape the daily drudgery. There are a few things I'll still have for expenses; like student loan each month, but thats only $200. My jeep will be paid off by that time as well. So then just finding a "traveling" job and insurance. I have all my planning lists made, now it's just about saving saving saving! Once I get enough money saved for the camper, I have some friends around the area that I'm sure I could park on their property and keep my current job for a few months and save that...around $800-$900 each month for rent and utilities. Wow, I can't believe how excited I get just talking about it!!
Thank you for your “what if “. I do that and my family is always gives me such a bad time for saying what if. I love positive attitude! You make my morning. A day just isn’t a day without my morning Crome!!🤗
I watch you videos every day. Thanks for sharing with us. I'm about to start my van journey and your videos are super helpful and I love how real you are. U dont sugar coat it. Thanks again for another great video man
I just found you What a breath of fresh air. Selling my house, buying a high top van or class b rv, depending on the cash after the sale. What I can’t stand is all the money I pour into the house. I am a retired, widow. Something is always breaking down in a house, right now it’s my hot water heater, ugh. Every time I want to put the house on the market something happens....calling a real estate agent Monday, gotta get this thing started. Thanks, I found you for a reason.
People are buying BLM permits and camping literally free for 14 days and then move to another national Park for 14 days traveling only 20 miles a month
Buy frozen peas along with an egg, tuna or lobster salad from the deli. Once the peas thaw, combine them with any of the salads. No cooking required and very few dishes to wash.
Thank you for starting this channel! I have been looking for REAL vanlifers and your content is definitely appreciated! Most of what I find are just younger people living off of mommy and daddy. It's great to have found some genuine info on this!
I’ve always been a storage locker addict, but I realized last year that I was just storing junk. So I went without one for six months and felt great about it. But the one thing I’m missing in vanlife is a home recording studio. There’s just no way I can comfortably play guitar, keyboard and drums and have the electricity to run my computer for several hours a day in my van. So I’m back in the storage game with a locker set up with all my gear. I’m already 200% happier having a space I can be creative, even if I do have to be stealthy about it.
I like your plan for a debt free future man - I made the same changes in my life about a year ago, except instead of a cargo van, I became an OTR (over the road) truck driver and have enjoyed living out of my semi while getting paid BIG to travel cross country AND having a minimal amount of bills each month ! Keep making videos - I use them as mini audio books and listen to them as I keep on trucking, doing my thing, and definitely, purposefully, keeping it weird.
I got your message, every person is different and they may do different things, but yours was a basic on what can happen. Your looking more relaxed than in the beginning and Disco is getting cuter very time I see him. Your place looks really nice, this weido is sending happy thought to you both.
god I want that so bad. working on it. still looking for that van. so expensive here in Illinois. just like every thing else.so happy for you. well deserved.
Love the info Chrome! Good video, the interior is looking good man. Good to see your using the stove more. Way cheaper bro than eating out. Keep up the good work.
You should check out the phone plans from Freedom Mobile. They include Shaw Go WiFi. 80% of business have Shaw Go so they have amazing coverage. And they have "unlimited data"... Sure there are caps, but when they slow you down, you can still stream TH-cam at 144p. You can still do email and messaging for business with the slower speeds too.
I have been rocking van life 4 several months now and I love it. I used to travel in a sedan and sleeping in the backseat was uncomfortable as all hell but I loved traveling. I loved seeing new places and meeting new people. The hard part was finding jobs to put money back in my account but it was still exciting. Keep rocking it Chrome.
I pay 2500 /mos. and thats JUST my living. I also have office. I DO have children..I am building a promaster and when I am dont I will rent it out either airbnb or some other thing,. Then soon as my baby turns 18 i am moving into my van FULL TIME. I will incorporate a 2nd and maybe even 3rd sleeping area in case any of my kids want to visit... Im considering doing IKEA cabinets and /or using the furniture I already have. (1500 sqft. condo) I am SOOOOOO ready to downsize., I raised 3 kids solo (even solo financially) So I am just so friggen ready.. I need to re-home my kittys with my daughter or son and get a dog... I like your new set up High 5 Chrome....BOOM! you rock n roll!!
Great video Chrome, so glad things are going as planned. Things have changed literally overnight for me, and I maybe starting van life with my daughter this summer. Need to do a few things first, then rent out my condo, might as well let someone else pay my mortgage!!! Just another day in Paradise...
The Disco shot was great. The two of you are completely opposite. Your full of energy and jumping continually and Disco is always laid back and slow. that's why you two are so fricking cool crazy.
Hey Chrome. Just found your channel and this was the first video I watched. Man, you couldn't of hit it any better than you did in the video. I'm building out my 2nd van, because my school bus was to big. Lol Anyway, I did two years as a nomad. And getting ready to go again. Im debt free and live for 450ish American. When in my van. Totally debt free and an elephant wad in the bank. Not to mention the places I wake up now 8 months out of the year. If you're ever in the states hit me up. I have some golden camp sites.
VANCITY VANLIFE Oh that's about perfect I wish they had things like that here in the states... In 2006 I bought/ leased a 2007 Dodge Dakota quad cab 4 by 4 and even at the end of my lease I was almost 20,000 miles under the amount that I was allowed on the lease...and they refused to allow me to buy out what was left on it...Because they wanted to resell for more... joke was on them when they went to resell it they couldn't get what they wanted out of it and I had a friend show up at the sale who bought it for me less than what was left owing on it...lol... then I paid him $1 for title transfer.. down here if you lease to like Chrysler Financial or GMAC they try to rack up extra fees you have to be very careful.... you got the perfect deal though lucky you.
Thanks for the analysis. Puts $$ in proper perspective. What if, what if,......What if you're hospitalized for 2 weeks in a regular house? You'd have to find someone to get your mail, check on your house, etc, etc same as a van. But van has a lot less to check on, just parking long term at the hospital and Done! Just sayin', ya figure it out, & simpler to figure with a minimalist lifestyle. 😎🐶🚐 VanCity VanLife rocks!
I like your good vibes 😎. Thank you for breaking down your expenses and expressing the VERY positive and still real side of the van life. I don’t like even glancing at someone’s video title and it says “Why you shouldn’t do van life” I understand we should still be aware of the pros & cons BUT... still we are doing this to live positively, happily, authentically (: so thank you 🙏🏽
10 THUMBS UP!!!!! convincing explanation!! thank you. you break it down to sound so easy. one day when the day comes..IM OUTTA HERE! question..i have watched just a couple of your videos..im new here. i thought your baby was cruisie bear...but you said disco? have i misunderstood? apologies
Van life has relaxed you more.Love your build out Once you get that van paid off you will be ding excellent financially for sure You did some good planning Start simple and slowly build up into a home.......Good going..You should be proud of yourself on your accomplishments .Am sure Disco is happier also.....Keep enjoying
I just love your energy...you can tell you are authentic no shit kinda guy....I thought I heard cruz was the dog the first few videos now its disco..was i hearing things..lol...Best to you both
All good info. Yes, you don't have to be rich to start. People on disability would still find your expenses prohibitive, but could make adjustments. I just found you today. Do you have a video on your cabinetry? If not, can you tell us more? I love what you've done.
I would do van and small cargo trailer, convert small cargo trailer as living space and van for storage of camping gear or scooter. Was thinking of bus conversion but too much work and stands out. You have a comfortable modern space that offers more than any real estate venue, great job, happy rolling
laura j phillips That was my struggle - living on SSI, how to start? And people kept telling me to ease into it by starting with weekends before I gave up my apartment but that just wasn’t an option because I couldn’t afford both. I had to take the plunge and hope everything worked out! Fortunately for me, it did. I’ve been living on the road for three years now.
You give me hope I can find a simpler way. :) I just spent three weeks touring the western US with a twin mattress inn the back of a Ford Escape rental. I didn’t wanna come home. I feel overwhelmed when I walk back into my place. Which I do love. It’s artsy. But my van would be too.
Chrome, I think I'm in love! Thanks for the inspiration, from down here by San Antonio (New Braunfels, TX)..........I should be living the van life by this fall/winter!!!
The van is coming along great. Seems you're always updating a little bit....now that I'm retired, I'm thinking of the van life myself....I'd like to travel some...cheaply..
You've come along way since I last checked in. You are settling down , soon you will be picking up paint brush painting the scenery. I often thought, how would I fill the time if living in the van, painting would be the solution for me. I use to make greeting cards for the troops for holiday seasons I might go back to that. And, you are eating better, you are upping your game, glad I checked back- best to you and yours
Yeah, if your van insurance covers a tow and rental, you may be able to transfer all your belongings to another vehicle if your van is suddenly involved in a lengthy repair. This may prevent having to pay for a hotel or storage while the repair is being completed. You can always stay with friends as well, but having this type of extra insurance keeps you independent and less dependent on others. Really like that!
You're amazing!! i enjoy your videos. Love your vibe. Im going into the vanlife in the next few weeks. Im so stoked!! Id love to pick your brain on conversion. BTW Im doing the vanlife for the very reason you have....Its good to know Im not alone. LOL
I just found your videos and they are awesome, so much valuable information and so well discussed. Only one thing, could you please put the camera on something solid?
I pay 1900 on my mortgage and 582 on my truck payment. I'm selling it all and getting the express van and moving to my farm. times are getting rough with Corona virus
I’m 43 about to be 44 this month on the 25th and I have pretty much hit rock bottom. I was laid off in 2018 and I’ve struggled to keep my head above water since then. Just when I get almost to the point of getting back on my feet something happens and I have had to start all over. I’m currently living in a weekly paid hotel and once again I lost my job. I’ve been thinking about van life for quite some time now. And the great thing is...I just bought me a van. It’s not the best but it’s a van and I can make it my own little home on wheels. It’s a 2003 Chevy Venture. Runs Great! My only problem...I’m a bit afraid of diving into this new lifestyle. It’s something I need to feel free and relax from the bs of trying to pay rent and utilities and all that Jazz. Living the van life I feel will bring me the peace I’ve been looking for and the sense of realization that I have a choice! To either live free with nature or live in the bs of paying rent for a house that’s not mine!! I’ve been watching your videos for a while and you have really inspired me to give it a try. Thank you for the videos you make and for the advice and the help on how to get started and what to do!! I really enjoy your videos! Btw...I love your dog! He’s too cute and I just wanna hold him!! Lol.
I don't have many bills as it is but I love the idea of being mobile. I've traveled in the USA all across the country but would like to slow down and see more. I love talking to other people and taking pictures. Love learning new things too.
I wish I wouldn't have let my vehicle go back. Wow I could fill up for $40 to $50 I am so happy you are finding your way to a healthier van life method. You are making me home sick. Going to pray that God allows me to get a van soon. I don't either I don't do the doctor, me too I don't take medicine. You are my brother from another mother, lol!

Good one! As The Minimalists say, "Use things and love people, because the opposite never works!"
Guys keep in mind it’s only $458 USD for his living expenses. He is talking Canadian.

Whatever you’re doing as part of van life, it’s looking great on you. Both you and Disco look happy, with a twinkle in your eyes. That’s wonderful!
Disco has really dropped weight since he gave up beer and took up Jujitsu
People should Listen & Learn from you about van living.
I think you have got it spot on.
all the best .
Great advice I'm gonna have to live in my car for a while but that won't kill me!

Very informational video Chrome. Thanks say hi to Disco.
Recording your expenditures makes it easy to analyze and strategize. You've done very well!

I like your new set up High 5 Chrome....BOOM! you rock n roll!!
My former roommate is a DJ & he boasts ALL. THE. TIME about the food buffets. Today he included pics. So cruel. Lol
Lovely video I am from the uk 🇬🇧 I love your videos yes we have free health care here. Your so down to earth love it
Awesome Video Crome&Disco, this was one of your best video every TFS
Great video Chrome, so glad things are going as planned. Things have changed literally overnight for me, and I maybe starting van life with my daughter this summer. Need to do a few things first, then rent out my condo, might as well let someone else pay my mortgage!!! Just another day in Paradise...
You're awesome and so is your van! Thanks for the financial break down on things.
The Disco shot was great. The two of you are completely opposite. Your full of energy and jumping continually and Disco is always laid back and slow. that's why you two are so fricking cool crazy.
So happy to see a Vanlifer doing so GREAT!! I've got 9 months in my current situation...then...I want FREEDOM!!! Keep Livin' Positive!
Hey Chrome. Just found your channel and this was the first video I watched. Man, you couldn't of hit it any better than you did in the video. I'm building out my 2nd van, because my school bus was to big. Lol
Anyway, I did two years as a nomad. And getting ready to go again.
Im debt free and live for 450ish American. When in my van.
Totally debt free and an elephant wad in the bank. Not to mention the places I wake up now 8 months out of the year. If you're ever in the states hit me up. I have some golden camp sites.
Start adding a little bit more to your principal then payment and your interest won't be so high and you'll get your van paid off sooner

Did you reimburse your friend for the amount of the vehicle afterwards?
Thanks for the analysis. Puts $$ in proper perspective. What if, what if,......What if you're hospitalized for 2 weeks in a regular house? You'd have to find someone to get your mail, check on your house, etc, etc same as a van. But van has a lot less to check on, just parking long term at the hospital and Done! Just sayin', ya figure it out, & simpler to figure with a minimalist lifestyle. 😎🐶🚐 VanCity VanLife rocks!
Nice piece/peace of wheel estate.....minimally speaking...lol. Thanks for sharing, Chrome. 🐝
The Backroads wheel estate lol
I like your good vibes 😎. Thank you for breaking down your expenses and expressing the VERY positive and still real side of the van life. I don’t like even glancing at someone’s video title and it says “Why you shouldn’t do van life” I understand we should still be aware of the pros & cons BUT... still we are doing this to live positively, happily, authentically (: so thank you 🙏🏽
You are doing great even with you van and music payment. Good for you!!!
Yay home boy Canada .nice to see a video from Canada given our seasons
I just love your energy...you can tell you are authentic no shit kinda guy....I thought I heard cruz was the dog the first few videos now its disco..was i hearing things..lol...Best to you both
All good info. Yes, you don't have to be rich to start. People on disability would still find your expenses prohibitive, but could make adjustments.
I just found you today.
Do you have a video on your cabinetry? If not, can you tell us more? I love what you've done.
Keep doing you chrome I knew you were going to get rid of that storage locker can’t wait to see your channel to grow to a million
I would do van and small cargo trailer, convert small cargo trailer as living space and van for storage of camping gear or scooter. Was thinking of bus conversion but too much work and stands out. You have a comfortable modern space that offers more than any real estate venue, great job, happy rolling
Being on SS is not the problem it's that it takes that for me to live right now, so no money to save. I'll get there somehow!
laura j phillips That was my struggle - living on SSI, how to start? And people kept telling me to ease into it by starting with weekends before I gave up my apartment but that just wasn’t an option because I couldn’t afford both. I had to take the plunge and hope everything worked out! Fortunately for me, it did. I’ve been living on the road for three years now.
Man, your videos are helping me sort out what I really need versus want when it comes to a van. I don't need the van all done before moving in.
Oh, and I just bought a van TODAY!! :)
You are awesome! This is like a breath of fresh air compared to some of these youtubers. Real talk 👍🏼
Love this video ❤️💙 right love your dog. Sweet been thinking about this.very helpful honest and very cool
Proud of you man!!! I'm doing the same thing. Now I save 50% of my income. Stay blessed dude.
Nice Vid Chrome, the best way to do something new in life is you have to change your mind set. Cheers.
You give me hope I can find a simpler way. :)
I just spent three weeks touring the western US with a twin mattress inn the back of a Ford Escape rental.
Your Mobile Home is looking good, Chrome! Good Job!
Never give up your INDIVIDUALITY and stay Weird!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The van is coming along great. Seems you're always updating a little bit....now that I'm retired, I'm thinking of the van life myself....I'd like to travel some...cheaply..
You've come along way since I last checked in. You are settling down , soon you will be picking up paint brush painting the scenery. I often thought, how would I fill the time if living in the van, painting would be the solution for me. I use to make greeting cards for the troops for holiday seasons I might go back to that. And, you are eating better, you are upping your game, glad I checked back- best to you and yours
This video is really helpful. I am moving towards van life.
Thanks for breaking down your expenses. 😊
You could use the money you save from no storage locker to buy a hitch and cargo utility trailer for your equipment and work wherever, whenever.
Appreciate you being open and sharing all the details. I never thought of financing a van, considering I don't have thousands to buy outright.
Absolutely right! Love this video! I wish everyone in my family would do this! I will!
Wow your layout is great! Looks better now 😂
You're amazing!! i enjoy your videos. Love your vibe. Im going into the vanlife in the next few weeks. Im so stoked!! Id love to pick your brain on conversion. BTW Im doing the vanlife for the very reason you have....Its good to know Im not alone. LOL
Thanks 4 the helpful info..happy trails..
You are the happiest among us all
Keep going Chrome !!!
Thank you for the info and the incouragement! Great video!
Great video with a lot of valid points . Good info .
Much love,
Chrome!
As many people have already said your van looks great!
