      I have a question on a project. Im trying to modpod a blue print onto a canvas. First try was a disaster and it dried in spots so it didn't stick..then when I tried to lift to reglue..paper tore...still going and very wrinkly once dried I tried to seal and it make the ink bleed....its a very large print any suggestions?

    • @KarenCampbellArtist
      @KarenCampbellArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rebeccaharding9258 sorry I’m just seeing this! A lot of ink is water based so any liquid that it comes into contact with it will cause it to bleed. If you’re unsure about an ink, you can test it on a small area first. If it bleeds. Apply a spray fixative first before you mid podge over it. I hope that helps!

    Oh my gosh, I can’t believe all the things I’ve learned from this video already. I have been using mod podge the wrong way for so many years. I’m a cheapskate and Liquitex is very expensive. But I will be investing in some and I appreciate all the info. Thank you so much for all you do. You’ve made Covid 19 tolerable. I have been working so many hours at the hospital and It’s so appreciated that I can watch it anytime.

    just saw this video and learned much. Especially love how you would never say "ok, I'm gonna let this dry overnight", -that so spoke my language. I hate waiting for things to dry...except my clothes, (sometimes they live a little too long in the dryer!). I'm not an artist, but loved your painting on the wall and the few ones you showed on this video. Thank you for explaining the difference between the two products, I now understand better how to use them.

    This is exactly the video I needed to watch! I have jumped into a project, actually 2, that involve, canvas, acrylics, cardstock, and paper maps. Luckily, I hadn't glued anything down with mod podge yet, because I planned to use paint and was nervous about painting over mod podge. I'm so happy I watched this first, and have just ordered gel and fluid acrylic medium, so I'll be all set to finish my projects the correct way. Karen Campbell, you saved me from wasting two canvases, and you are very informative and entertaining. Thank you!

    If you mix Elmers glue all with matte Mod Podge it will not ever be sticky. I use about 5 parts Mod Podge to 1 part Elmers glue all. You can adjust. It's not written in stone. Found this by accident when I didn't clean out my cup of Elmers and just used it for Mod Podge. It will dry paper dry, or talc dry and very nice. Try it, you'll like it. 😁💕

    While I'm here, I have a question. My latest crafting project is journal covers. Making paper dori TN. I was thinking on using card stock or photo paper (with design printed on with laser printer) for outside front, and maybe craftstock in center and scrapbook paper for inside cover making a 3 layer, durable thickness. I'll use eyelets in the holes that elastic is threaded through.
    So, I have graphics to glue on the front and I want a protective coating on the front cover. I'll use Modge Podge but can I use Krylon triple thick clear glaze on top of that? I want them to be protected but concerned about tackyness? It worked nicely on plain paper.

    Karen I really appreciate being able to understand the different uses for the two different mediums that are so similar. I only have Matt Med. gell and also heavy gloss gel, don't have any fluid. should I have fluid MM in my arsenal since I do use a lot of my painty papers I've made which are primarily on very thin papers. Deli paper or copy weight paper generally.

    Hello, New Subscriber I just found your page and love the content, I have a question about the mod podge. I was wondering how compatible as well as durable is it when using it on leather. If it is durable I'm thinking of using it as a sealer after repairing and coloring the seat I'm working on. I herd you mention that if I use it as a sealer that I should use some kind of acrylic spray over the mod podge. Can you also recommend what type acrylic sealer/ spray that works good on leather. Although I've herd and seen mod podge I've never worked with it so I'm Sorry to bombard you with a lot of questions and Thanks You .

      Oooh so that’s a great question! I have to say as far as I’ve experienced, inkjet prints dont work (at least they haven’t for me!). I always use laser prints as the ink won’t move on you! Then yes, Matte medium is my go-to 💪

    I actually always use a 'Mod Podge/mix/paint' layer over a prepared canvas and do two more layers of the same color before I start a painting because it makes the canvas very hard and smooth. I am wondering if I should switch to a matt medium? Now I'm curious if I've been starting artwork backward?

Can you not just use a Uhu stick to glue down whatever paper/other materials you intend to paint over, and then just add a layer of modge podge over everything (painted over elements or not) at the end? @stinar37 because a glue stick on words under the paper, and not all under, in between and on top. Also doesn’t prep your papers to accept paint in any way. Untreated papers can peel and curl and rip.
