@@kristie825 I was 17 when the song released so we are the same age. I had my drivers license and remember they played this song on the radio constantly. Still a great song decades later.
Always reminds me of my grandpa who was given the choice of “marry her” or “jail”. He chose “marry her”. My uncle was born the day after the wedding. They had 3 more kids and were married until her death - over 50 years.
There’s more to the story. He spent a night in jail before given the option since she was under 18. He’d dated her but had moved on to another woman. He was completely devoted to my grandma despite the start - even giving her insulin shots twice a day. A year after she died, he started dating the woman he’d been dating when he married grandma. She was a widow. They “kept company” for 18 years until her death.
Around 1990 I used to go to this club every weekend, and within 2-3 songs, the DJ would call me out by name, and crank this. She (DJ) couldn't believe that I could dance to this. Yes I had my snakeskin boots on. What wonderful memories. Thank You
Thank God I'm a Southern boy. Flying down the back roads in my old pick up. We still fry chicken caught in the back yard at my house. This is a good one. Just keep your hands to yourself.
I'm a Northern boy from northern Minnesota and I feel ya. I still remember the first time butchering chickens. I held the comb while my uncle came down with the hatchet. And yes, I learned that chickens actually do run around with their head cut off.
Mama is suppose to be in the kitchen cookin chicken up to fry. The backyard is for daddy rolling up the garden hose. You are suppose to be on the pouch with Charlette just a-swingin. 😂😂😂😂
@@wWSwiftyWw Yes they do. Scared the fire out of me the first, and only, time I saw it. Headless chicken running into everything including my Granny. I'm screaming because I'm only like 8 or 9 and there's this chicken with no head in the yard. My Daddy's laughing at me. My Granny's laughing at me and I'm just a boo hooin'. I looked at them and told them that wasn't funny and ran inside to my Mom who was looking out the window laughing at me lol... Good ole days.
The only time I saw them, they opened for Hank Jr. in Columbia Missouri. They performed some of Hanks songs, and he performed some of theirs. It was a great time at Mizzou. One of the best shows I've ever seen, right next to Charlie Daniels!
My son was a toddler when this came out and walked around singing it all the time. His little hard core southern accented toddler-speak was hilarious. “Don’t tell me no lies. Keep yo hands uh yo self!”
I remember when this song debuted on MTV. I thought that The Georgia Satellites were going to be the “second coming” of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Sadly, they only made a couple of more albums and broke up. Lead singer Dan Baird is still active as a solo artist. He is 70 years old.
Way back in the 80's i went to see a Bob Seger concert and the opening act was the Georgia Satellites, i never heard of them before and they rocked the house!!!!
Love this band. Saw them live in the UK over 20 years ago. Awesome. Battleship Chains, All Over But The Cryin', Bottle o Tears and Six Years Gone are fantastic songs
Saw them at a local bar. After they played, I got their autographs on the cassette I'd brought with me. They were good! The singer, Dan Baird, also had a solo album Love Songs For The Hearing Impaired. I liked the song I Love You Period! Your reaction is so funny when it turned out to be a shotgun wedding!
Fantastic rabbit hole to go down. More from the Georgia Sattelites thst you need to listen to. Battleship chains, Another Chance, don’t pass me by, the myth of love, nights of mystery, Sheila, can’t stand the pain, hippy hippy shake (a cover version of the swinging blue jays 1964 hit recorded for the Tom cruises movie Cocktail), all over but the crying, Dan takes 5, six years gone, amd lots more. The main singer, Rythmn guitarist and song writer in this video is a guy called Dan Baird. He left in the early 1990’s, but started a very interesting solo career, his first solo album was called ‘love songs for the hearing impaired’ and the lead single was called ‘I love you period’ a song about a school boy, who wrote his English teacher a love letter, which she marked and sent back to the boy. Very fun song, and worth listening to.
Most definitely Southern rock. That thing the lead singer does that you like so much is called "Yodelling" and it was originally from the people living in the Swiss alps. Like the children story of "HEIDI". Thankfully goodness that I am a southern man!!!
When this came out, my high school girls' volleyball and basketball teams would bring a boombox on the team bus for when we had to go to play away games and whenever this song came on the radio, we were all singing at the top of our lungs. Fun times!
That video is exactly how I grew up, including dressing chickens every summer. My mom is 89 yrs old and still dresses chickens and raises her own garden. Love the country! You can have the city life.
The rhythm, the pickup, the guitars, that loopy vocalizing and most of all the humor, this is southern rock down to its toes. BTW, "rockabilly" was the early form of rock crossing with early country and blues. Elvis started out in rockabilly, and one of his earliest songs was "Hound Dog". Early Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran. That's rockabilly. Rock on, bro!
Great Love Song 😂😂 Absolute Banger At the end in the video lineup I saw Another Absolute Banger Love Song. Great White’s Absolutely Amazing Cover of the Ian Hunter Mick Ronson Classic “Once Bitten Twice Shy” Another Blues twinge Classic Rock Song. You Will Love It 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What I love most about this song and the Alan Jackson song that dropped right before this one both songs reference a female that had standards and made him wait.. Both songs described this in a respectful way. There's no way you would hear anything like that on any streaming service or radio now. Every single song on the radio, even on the Female's is X rated, and if somebody is not willing or didn't do something he wants, they'll Go Find anybody else and the rest of the song will be she or he ain't worth it so on to the next.
