I redid two of the tests in this video here: th-cam.com/video/-TunPlRLuMI/w-d-xo.html unfortunately the amp blocks weren't reset properly in the first test preset and my main preset after doing the update in this video, my bad the second preset I made from scratch within Firmware 8 , so that would still be correct, i'll leave this video up as i have Firmware 7 amp page details that are in here the takeaway however from the amp update is still pretty much the same with regards to the voicing, thanks
Thank you for clearly comparing the differences. The characteristic tone of fryette (VHT) deliverance amp has been of great interest to me for a long time. There may be many variables and diversity, but 8:53~9:00 of the video In the comparison between 9:22 and 9:28, it seems that the new firmware provides the “vertical three-dimensional effect(?)” of this amplifier that I wanted. Or maybe it's simply because the EQ is different...
thanks 🙏 there's definitely a lot of potential, I'll be doing a follow up at some point when i get things more dialed in, there's this slightly hollow mids things going on in the older voicing with more upper mids/highs that i can't quite get, not that it's better or worse but just different I'll report back once i play more 😄 spent all day just hearing the same guitar loop, drove me nuts
me too 😄i got so impatient recording firmware 7 samples before updating to firmware 8 beta, the other changes are incredible in any case CPU usage down on my main preset , gapless switching is huuuge i'll do a follow up to this down the line when i've done more testing and tweaking in any case
One forum member noted that unlike the FM9 and AxeFX III the FM3 doesn’t reset any Amp parameters. It is up the the user to do that. I don’t think you get all the Amp updates unless you do a soft reset. You can use the Preset Manager in FM3-Edit to select multiple presets and then right-click and tap Reset Amp Blocks in the context menu.
yep, i used the setup utility on the FM3, which updated all my presets, it takes between 8-15 minutes depending on how many presets you have it's something they added in the beta firmware to make updating easier, i double checked the amp values after the update and they were updated to the new firmware values
@@joker57 I'll double check on this, i thought the upgrade presets would do this i checked values as well after installing to be sure they had been updated the 'tweaked version' otherwise was a brand new preset i made in firmware 8 and then edited, it exhibited the same sort of response
@@joker57 thanks for flagging this again, i just did a new test with updating/resetting amp blocks, and while there's still a difference in the amp voicing it's certainly not as dark i'll do a quick follow up video to the first test and put that online, the 'tweaked version' however would still be relevant to the comparison as it was made in firmware 8 and then tweaked to match the old firmware values
I redid 2 of the tests with resetting the amp blocks , just uploaded a video, the takeaway is kind of the same in terms of the voicing of the amp, but it's a more precise test of the two firmwares, thanks again for pointing this out @millman82 and @joker57 th-cam.com/video/-TunPlRLuMI/w-d-xo.html
they've also somehow further optimised CPU usage, it's pretty crazy, got extra cpu on my main presets I'll be trying more amps out soon, it's a great update in any case
@@Allann882 i only did the test between the d60 more model in firmware 7 and firmware 8 as that model was being replaced with a newer version (mark2) of the amp i think in general there's more low end/girth to the amps i've tried, you can push things more in the treble/presence with things sounding fuller the new firmware updates/gapless etc.. make a huge difference to the unit, i can highly recommend it in any case
Everyone seems to talk about this 3 dimensional quality, I do not even know what that could mean??. To me the new update makes the sound a bit tighter sounding and or Clearer sounding.
thanks for the feedback, yeah there's a lot to take in with the new firmware, overall it seems you can boost treble/presence more and things are smoother in the high end if that makes sense for this model in particular , i'm still tweaking but there's something in the mids/voicing that i can't quite get, will keep testing in any case
@@jumpbackgeno i know what you mean, when i first loaded the basic amp preset, the difference was considerable, but you can tweak things luckily =) on my main preset i switched cab mix slightly to something a bit brighter as well , with a bit more presence, helped a lot there's a lot of chunk going on in any case =)
it's certainly a considerable difference, i got to spend more time with my main preset yesterday at band practice, the changes i made: -less gain -more treble/presence -a slightly brighter cab mix and with that , it sounded and felt great to play, but the voicing is different, way chunkier and maybe not quite as percussive as before i made a wish in the fractal forum to also include the old mk1 version of the amp alongside this mk2 in a future firmware, would be great

I think firmware 8 is a huge improvement: they’ve engineered out that harsh bite that the fractal stuff has always had that’s put me off

i guess it's like saying there's more depth to the sound if that makes sense, in essence it sounds better 😄
Maybe it's the same sensation when change old strings but applyed on context of amps
I think firmware 7 sounds better. Firmware 8 sounds too dark for my taste

Out of the box V7 sounds MUCH better. This is a DRASTIC change in tone. It's like... WHY?!?
