    It's refreshing to see someone give an honest review of a new bike.
    Certainly not a FXDR bashing review, just your honest thoughts on the bike.
    Not everyone is going to like every bike a manufacturer produces.
    I think you're spot on with the issue of price point as well.
    With the standard 'Harley tax' added we are looking at close to a $40k bike here in Australia!
    As always mate an honest and informative review.
    Peace and love from Down Under.

    For that price, would expect a nice TFT screen instead of the 1980's Casio watch they ended up with 👎.

    Went for a test on one yesterday here in Australia & while it was fun & aggressive feeling, I agree that the Low Rider S was & still is a bench mark they haven’t overtaken yet.
    I own a ‘17 Low Rider (stage 1 only)& being age 50, it was like jumping in an arm chair after the test, horses for courses.

      Well it's always easy to go back in time and look forward and realize that this vehicle would have been a good purchase for me because in the amount I could have purchased it for in Canada it would now let me a $5000 profit after, paying the Texas

    I like the style of the bike personally. Very Diavel-like in many ways which is a marmite look. Only issue I thought about is that the Ducati bike has more than 160 horses as standard (I owned one for a year) and they're quicker/lighter so not sure why the HD style vs this bike's performance? That said, Harley are being brave with the looks on this, which may pull in some of those Diavel or sports type riders who fancy the Harley experience and maybe have more disposable income. HD may then induct new to the brand riders, which they need to! Remember, people don't need £25k to buy one as I'd imagine a lot of people will buy on pcp/finance. It's a lot easier to find £40-50 a month for your accessories than fork out £2k cash to get your mods. Many will be seduced by the HD accessory catalogue and why not?! If you have the dough and love the HD style/ride, you're probably going to be very happy with one of these. 🤘

  • @Crabbers_paints
    @Crabbers_paints 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Here's a thought, HD are onto something with Dark Custom. Releasing bikes like this at this price range and your moving into a more 'exotics' type buyer. I know a guy who collects very high end cars, he changes nothing at all on them because that's not what it's about at that sort of money. The custom side of the bike scene is where the money is, when they realise if you price a bike correctly and add a load of dark custom parts that can be added, they'll sell more bikes. That's why the iron sells.

    I got to test ride the FXDR as well as a Breakout 114 and a Fatboy 114 all back to back. A good lengthy test ride. Yes, the FXDR looks and feels like a performance bike, but I found the riding position weird and I personally don't like its looks. Too much plastic for my taste. My favorite was the Breakout with its cleaner and classic H-D look and feel. I much prefer the riding position and it has the same hp as the FXDR. I even liked the Fatboy more than the FXDR. No, the FXDR is not worth the price to me as I would have to spend its equivalent value to de-ugly-fy it and make any improvement in its performance. The Breakout 114 would be my choice all day and everyday. I could even live with the Breakout 100% stock. Much better choice over the FXDR - my opinion.

    • @Motonewbrider
      @Motonewbrider  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bobber16 I agree the breakout in stock form is still a better looking bike, I could Defo live with that ( for a short period of time anyway ). Thanks for the comment 👍

  • @bobellis2912

    I had a night rod a couple years ago and truly loved that bike. For whatever reason, the FXDR just doesn’t do it for me. I’m now on a street glide. The night rod isn’t so great for commuting, carrying stuff and being on the road for any length of time. I do miss the Rod, but no regrets moving to the SGS. guess I’m not Harley’s target audience for this one. Great vid as usual.

  • @1066serenity
    @1066serenity 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's a great looking bike and if it had a 117 the price would make more sense. As is, i won't be trading in my Breakout. Breakout is better looking, more practical (never thought i'd say that), more comfortable, cheaper, and the performance is pretty much the same.

  • @TheViperSD
    @TheViperSD 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The reason Harley can't do that is because of the EPA. This 114 will put out `130+ hp with a few tweaks here and there... a cam, exhaust, tune. Harley can't sell them this way tho. The EPA just sued Harley and is working it's way through the aftermarket 1 or 2 companies at a time with charges of creating and selling mods designed to defeat EPA emissions standards. TBR is involved in this right now, working to redesign their exhausts under the EPA whip.
    P.S. I'm 51 and I bought one. It's a Breakout with all the upgrades I always wanted on one. Dual disk front breaks, inverted progressive front forks, 33 degrees of lean v/s 26, reduced trail and it's lighter. The breakout goes for 20K. Are those upgrades worth $1400? I thought they were.

    • @Motonewbrider
      @Motonewbrider  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AnonOne 130 bhp from a cam and tune? No chance fella. 118 bhp at a push, however I’m happy to be wrong if you can point me in the direction of proven stats.
      At the end of the day as long as your happy with your bike then that’s all the matters.
      I’m just a chap on the Internet with an opinion 👍

    • @TheViperSD
      @TheViperSD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, there are a few more bolt-on upgrades needed to get to 130 but it's in plug and play reach. Didn't mean that to be a shopping list. There are some custom shops regionally that are getting a lot more than that out of the M8.
      My point is, it's not HD cutting us off or not wanting to do the work. Their hands are tied. if your going to meet epa standards, you better if your going to sell bikes or autos, and run an air cooled torque monster of a motor... then this is where the line is drawn.
      Not trying to make you like or dislike the FXDR. I like it so I bought it. Your certainly welcome to your thoughts on the bike. There are about ~7.2 billion truths in the world at any given moment, 1 for each of us. Each as valid and accurate as it's neighbors. Perspective is everything and always unique.
      Love the vids man. Thanks for effort, and the cool content!!

    Nice review again. I can’t help but think this is Harley’s version of an XDiavel. Which is quite ironic as Ducati brought out the XDiavel to compete with Harley. Lovely touches to the bike and I think it will do well. Well done Harley for trying to broaden their appeal.

    A very good, honest review. £20k is way too much for such a focussed style of bike and the back end looks horrible, in my opinion. I’d sooner spend that sort of money on a 114ci Softail Heritage. It was good to meet you the other day in Shaw’s.

    Mark - Fantastic video and spot on, honest review mate. After I rode it on Harley Ride Days, I conclude it to be a novelty bike. The spawn of Breakout and Vrod. I agree it is not priced right with all that is needed to change. Perhaps targeting the Ducati X Diavel. I wanted to like it more...it is nice, but not for me.

    Testing the 114 Fat Bob and FXDR this weekend. I'll post my thoughts next week. I'm not a hard-core HD rider/owner but just looking at the vids on YT on these bikes,I just find them really pleasing to the eye. Very much appreciate your honesty here, I like the bike but not the price & negatives are too many to list here, too many things to change $. Here in the states you can score a used V-Rod Stage 1 with low miles in mint condition for $6,000, there's a bunch of them in my area. I'm waiting for the Future Custom, hopefully they don't screw that up, for now still love my Sportser!

  • @Stevebarker66

    Great review - as ever - and WHAT a bike!
    Let's face it: Harley are gonna sell every FXD-R they can get into the UK so I guess the price IS justified. If you can afford one and you want one - you're gonna have one. That said, if I were to drop that sort of cash into a bike I think I'd go for a Fat Boy as it looks a bit more special to me.
    Your point about H-D's marketing message is sound: yes, this bike will appeal to the younger riders Harley needs, but the price does not address that market.
    Nor does the Fat Bob which is considerably cheaper and yet offers similar performance.
    So H-D still have a problem for the future looming.
    I ride an Indian Scout which - having ridden the Fat Bob - has very similar performance at far less money.
    Although the Scout Bobber is probably a more direct comparison to the FXD-R in terms of style and appeal, there are some quality and finish differences, but in my opinion these are not justified by the price difference.
    Hopefully, the new Sportster models will give Harley something to compete against the Scout - whose sales are seemingly only limited by availability here in the UK right now.
    So maybe we'll see a 'Baby FXD-R' based on a 1200cc engine in a lightweight chassis with good handling AND the competitive price to attract the younger riders H-D badly needs.
    THAT would be the bike for me.

  • @akaredcrossbow

    I love the V-Rod and the FXDR is a close clone. If I could purchase any HD money no object I would buy the FXDR. If I only had $30,000 then I would buy the new Sport Glide and spend the rest on upgrades. IMO the new Sport Glide is one of the best motorcycles that HD has come out with in a long time!
    👍🏻👍🏻

    Strangely enough, I rode the FXDR at the 2018 INTERMOT. I've never been a big fan of anything Harley (except for the Sportster), and to be quite it handled like a truck! Believe that it was that long wheelbase....but then again, it could also be from the other bikes that i rode (Ducati Supersport S, KTM 790 Duke, Triumph Street Triple, & the BMW S1000R), and I even got to go out on a 1 hour demo ride on the new Honda CB1000R. That being said, I enjoyed cranking it over to the side far enough to pull my foot off of the pedal. It was a little tight track, and I think that it might have been not the optimal setting for this bike. But I was impressed by the fact that it could really lean over (really expected to drag foot pegs). Granted, the price is pretty high, and if I was in the market, I'm sorry to say, there are allot better bikes to be had for this kind of money. Even the new and improved Honda Goldwing is only $2500 more! And it's got a load of features. So HD, nice bike, too bad that it doesn't come with a nice price. But for the record, I'd be looking more at either the Triumph America, Speedmaster, or the Rocket III, along with the Honda Goldwing. Most of them are cheaper and I think would be just as much fun.

      It baffles me how high the price is for the FXDR. You could buy a new Dyna Street Bob for €17K (yes I know Dynas are cheaper, but still) but the FXDR costs €32K in my country, so nearly double the price. That is fucking ridiculous. I've got a Street Bob with 103ci engine and stage 1 and I didn't feel a power difference big enough to justify the cost. HD should've at least made this bike genuinely powerful.

If they want to appeal to younger riders it's way too expensive and those older people with the disposable income to afford it will most likely go for a more traditional bike. But hey that's my opinion and I'm sure HD have a huge product marketing budget to ensure they get it right???

    I totally agree, HD has killed any chance of success in regards to the outrageous price tag for this new model! I really feel HD is financially positioning the company for a sale. An awful lot of focus coming from a country named INDIA!!!

    They introduced the XR1200 platform in 2009 (!), killed the V-Rod with a great engine and now come with a new (!) FXDR 114. Consider the developing costs of a new motorcycle which is actually nothing more than the axed V-Rod, a Harley with a water cooled V2! I don't get it and wonder how long people want to order the same steak over and over again? There are so many fine dishes out there and you only eat steak? Strange...

  • @Revvinthe417
    @Revvinthe417 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agreed! It looks great, but is about $10K too much and 200lbs too heavy. Most in the targeted age range wouldn't be able to afford it, and although I could, I never would buy it due to the lack of value, and weight.
    Edit: Rarely should bikes cost more than $12K unless they are offering something extraordinary.

    I like that H-D are innovating (for them at least) but this bike is just too heavy, and way too expensive for what it is and compared to similar bikes like the V-Max or Diavel its a lost cause. I really hope they don't under power and over price the streetfighter too because I am eager to own one but that FTR1200 is looking extremely good right now.

      I really like the new street fighter as well, at least from the few pictures that have been published and I have the same fear. I really, really hope that Harley puts at least 120-130hp on it and that it would cost less than the new softails, because if it doesn't it's not gonna sell. You can get a KTM 1290 SuperDuke cheaper than a Softail and the KTM is a beast full of technology.

      Captain BroadSword The V-Max is V-Fail for the same reason the V-Rod fails: The 5 speed transmission makes it useless for anything beyond the red light to red light boogie and posing in the bar parking lot.
      If that’s all you want from your bike, good on ya, but for riders that put down miles on roads that might have curves in them, a V-Whatever is the wrong knife to bring to the gun fight.

      Nobody buys a bike like this for other than a half day jaunt with the friends for a burger and fun. It's not a touring bike, a commuter, a track toy (the drag strip for giggles) or anything else. It's good for short rides and trying to look good stoplight to stoplight, sober barhopping.

    I think Harley are a little out of touch , I love the low rider s by the way . they had a chance with the new range to engage with the younger riders but have failed with this bike and the adventure they are pretty much fugly

    • @davemaxx200
      @davemaxx200 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I Think the *lowrider s* is better value and moor appealing. Should have kept with that format and done a model with the 120" R motor.
      Put the new soft tail street bob next to this " fxdr " and ask the question "" where's the extra 8,000 quid going? or Fat bob for that matter.
      They should have put all the money into building racing bikes and a racing team and competing in the world G P Racing, this is where the attention is drawn. unfortunatly any youngster will just walk away from the name or switch off in conversation because like you say HD are out of touch, like a grandad design team. Who in their right mind would buy a bike like that ((( baggers an exception))) were you spend 20k and the front end doesnt leave the tarmac towards the sky when you wind the throttle open.
      I dont wanna sound like i'm trolling Motnewb reviews, but there are very few unbiased realistic people devoting time to this.

    If someone dropped 20k on me and said I had to buy a motorcycle with it, I'd put it all down on a SGS. Otherwise I'd drop it on a Sport Glide and make up the difference with parts.

    I don’t like it, don’t like the air filter, it’s huge, don’t like the exhaust, not in keeping with traditional looks, you need to buy the pillion seat, it doesn’t come with the bike, it’s like Harley are going in a different direction with this bike. Clip ons?? Upside down forks?? No no no, I’ll keep my 2018 114 Fat Boy.

  • @justingillette8287
    @justingillette8287 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really like the FXDR, except it cost more than the Ford Fiesta ST I bought new. Sorry the price is just too high. For that money, I could buy a triumph Bonneville Bobber and a KTM 690enduro, I could have a Yamaha Raider and a MT-09, I could have a Ducati Diavel and have some money left over. For the price of a FXDR I could have an Indian FTR1200 and buy a Honda Grom and have money left over.. That FXDR needs to be $14,000. I just picked up a used 2016 Suzuki GSX-S1000 naked in matte silver with 2300mi for under $8000 after calculating financing and that bike has 140hp and top speed of 155mph, I saved $17000 over the FXDR.... Now I do think Harley has some magic and I want one imagine if they took a sportster frame and mounted this 114cuin power plant in it and found a way to make it $14,000usd now we are talking!!!

  • @michaelgurgone2825

    In reality this bike is over $24,000 out the door, not counting finance charges for most folks.. no way this stripper is worth what Harley-Davidson is asking. At higher revs it Sounds like a old CB350 Honda. I can’t see Harley-Davidson selling many of this model all things considered. You can have it, I’ll pass.

    I'll be honest. I'm no HD fan. I pushed WAY too many of them in my 20s (along with many a Triumph and BSA if that tells you anything). I thought this was ugly as sin viewing it on the screen. I happend to stop by a dealer and saw one in a deep coppery 2 tone paint job. It looked pretty good if you can get past the exhaust, fender, and airbox that everybody will hang on the garage wall. I would consider this before commiting to buy, but the Ducati Xdiavel still tops the list in this catergory for me. It's a good effort towards change.
