Very tastefully done. HD should really come up with some reduced reach clip on bars in the same style for us guys who aren't 6'6". I find the Breakout far more comfortable at my height. Love that cowl over the headlight. That should really come on the Breakout as seeing the rat's nest behind it now is really not in keeping with HDs well hidden wiring paradigm. Pipe is fantastic. The fat tire fad needed to die 10 yrs ago. Make a decent subframe with enough ass to carry someone or some things along from time to time. Perhaps a quick release windscreen too. People who drop $20k+ on a bike may occasionally want to do more with it than sit it out front of a bar. That said, this one will likely get plenty of drool on it from the tire kickers.
I had no idea HD built this bike? Never seen it on YT till I found this channel, kinda a cross between the Breakout & VRod, I think this bike has a lot of custom potential. I’d sling a 21” out front & find a way to lower that rear fender closer to the tire eliminating that gap. I like those clip-on drag-style bars of course adjusted with less pull-back & more drag-style but very unique!
I think the price point is a little high. For not much more you can buy a street glide. If I was in the market for that kind of bike I'd buy the fatbob
If I didn’t carry a passenger most of the time. The FXDR would be my bike. I think Harley nailed it with this bike. The way this one is set up is the way I would set it up with the exception of a stage iv. I think the stage four with the power in the upper rev range fits this bike. 21k I believe is a fair price to ask for it.
I'll wait for the new 975cc Bareknuckle Streetfighter! It will be the best handling HD ever made and if it has at least 140 horsepower I'll be first in line to get one!!
I really love this bike but couldn't afford one in Vietnam because it's cost US$34,347 before 5% registration tax and properly another US$10,000 for upgrades.
Agree with many of the comments here. I think the proportions are odd, I'm surprised it made it through to production. It doesnt surprise me that sales are slow. They intoduced the fat bob as a performance cruiser, and what was the fxdr for? They couldnt even think of a name for it. I think the mistake is acknowledged with the (re) intro of the lowrider S.
@@raif725 a sport oriented bike would have mids so you can have better control of the bike and ride more aggressively. Also riding a bike with forwards and clip on bars puts you in a less than optimal position to ride aggressively and is uncomfortable AF.
love thie vid as always man, i gotta say i do love the FXDR and initially i feel like it got some hate at launch that honestly felt that it wasnt deserved. Now personally for the price and performance i think that the Fat Bob might be the better choice for some people which is unfortunate uz the FXDR i feel should have more attention than it is gettin . Either way great bike and great vid man.
Not a fan of the tiny rizoma parts, but nice bike and as always good content matt. See you at dealershow. FXDR not a big seller at our dealer either. Sell lots of Road Glide Specials, Limited, Fat Boy, CVO, Fat Bob
Kev H call it Harley’s shout out to Corvettes... I think it’s a sexy looking machine but I went FatBob because I live in a urban area and need to weave traffic as well as nice sweeping weekend rides from time to time... But in a more rural area why not cruise the FXRD like cruising a Vett along with the fact many Vetts get upgraded parts.
The dealership I go to has gotten 3 and sold 3. Most people do not like it though. Personally if it came to that bike or the Fat Bob, I would get the Fat Bob.
Good looking FXDR! I have test ridden an FXDR several times just have not pulled the trigger. It would be hard for me to get rid of my CVO Pro Street Breakout. Now if Harley would make a CVO FXDR I would be all over it, especially with a 117 which they should have done from the beginning! All in all a nice looking FXDR. Please do a video if possible on the FXDR with the stage 3 kit!
Too many newer Harleys have a huge gap between the rear fender and tire. I understand you need shock travel but there has to be a different way to close that gap. Looks good on a sport bike like my Busa but not so much for a Harley in my opinion.
@KIRBOSKI I didnt think of that. I love the look of bikes being lowered but i dislike sacrificing the comfort like my current Deuce. I lowered the rear 3.5" and the front 1" and it corners better but ill never lower the front again! Air ride seems like a good idea👍
@KIRBOSKI Thanks for the info. But im going to sell my 00' decked out and fast Deuce. I just put it on milwaukee's craigslist so we shall see. Ill never get the $ i put into it. But shes almost 20 yrs old now. Maybe ill get a high output 103, Not sure yet. Ill know when i see it. 👍😎👍
Hey Matt do you think HD will change the FXDR back end on upcoming 2020 models? That back end needs some serious changes. It's really bad that customers have to spend money to make a badass bike look the way it should have out-of-the-box.
No, I don't anticipate any changes. The tail end is that way for legal reasons. Its the same reason sport bikes all have to mount the license plate behind the rear wheel as well.
Thx Matt great vid. I love the Fxdr just out of my price range I have the Fxdf. I hate to think what he spent to up grade it. And the SE slip on is God awful it's huge in size and price but not in sound.
This is going to be another one Harley’s bikes that do better after Harley kills it. Kinda like the V-Rod. People hated it and now people love them. But that’s how people are they hate change until they give it a chance.
Matt I dont think it's the price as much as it is the looks. The bike looks good with the things he did to it. I agree about Harley people are more traditional than the other way. Stay safe.
@@sk8777kid1 its design was influenced by Harley's NHRA drag bike. I do think they're cool bikes, but almost a novelty for a few years more than a timeless design. In my opinion of course. Time will tell.
Its prime competitor, the Ducati xDiavel, offers 152 hp, liquid cooled engine, 8 degrees more lean angle, ride modes, cornering ABS, cruise control, and weighs 123 pounds less for $21k. It also has forward controls. For the pure performance customer segment, H-D needs to vastly improve the FXDR with a performance version of their new 1250cc water cooled engine.
Electronics have never been HDs weapon on choice. They look great on paper to some buyers but I ridden both bikes and they really can’t be compared. The Ducati is a bad ass bike but it is a sport bike that has a slightly different riders triangle. It doesn’t have the quality of parts, paint, fit, and finish that a Harley offers. It’s a completely different machine.
@@MattLaidlaw Actually, it was some VP in H-D marketing that said this was the target market for the FXDR in an interview with Bennetts UK. But, you're right, the XDiavel is what happens when a performance sports bike company tries to build a cruiser and you end up with a bad ass bike that fails on so many levels. Polarizing styling, jarring ride, and gearing that doesn't work in the city. On the other hand, when a cruiser company tries to build a performance bike you get the FXDR which hasn't created a fire storm in the market. If H-D wants to go this route, they need to define a new and unique performance cruiser segment that separates H-D in the over crowed motorcycle marketplace. FXDR is a follower bike and not the leader H-D needs.
The FXDR is probably my least favorite bike in the entire 2019 line up and I'm probably the kind of rider that it's aimed at. Coming over from sport bikes and supermoto I like turning more than anything so I'm more into the fat bob, sport glide and the street bob because of the handling and the looks. But I did test ride the fxdr with a open mind but I'm not used to the clam shell riding position and felt within minutes that I wanted to get my feets backwards and straighten my back out again. So with a price in line with the touring bikes I don't think this bike will surrvive so many years.
@@SethEques i have a victory octane, big bore kit, similar motor to the scout...my brothers dyno cant keep up....club out street bob does look good...would be my next Bike, but cant justify cost tag...lol
I didn't know they brought the MSRP down to $21,349, when it was released they said it was 24k. although that also assumes vivid black only and the 114 fatbob. 107 fatbob with color vs fxdr with color is $4300. I still would standby saying that the FXDR is not worth the $2500 more vs a 114 fatbob, the fatbob is priced a little high to begin with, IMO, and they rode exactly the same to me. I did like the fly screen and clip on bars though.
@@MattLaidlaw I watch a lot of your videos and you once said the 117ci Lowrider S was one of the fastest, if not the fastest, Harley you have ever ridden. Between the Lowrider S 117ci and the FXDR, which bike do you believe would be the fastest bike?
Love the changes that he made to the bike!! Looks 100times better for sure! I think that the problem with the FXDR is that they went too modern looking and too far away from a classic muscle bike. THey would have been better served with the looks of the Breakout Pro Stock vice the route they took. When they went modern like this, they moved from the typical Harley buyer and more into the realm of people who dont mind buying Ducati...which I would take an XDiavel over this 8 out of 10 times. Reliability and ease of working on it being the ONLY reasons that I would take the Harley, as the looks are almost the same but the Duc makes probably 70 more HP, weighs 80 lbs less, and has an Ohlins suspension vice a Harley...just the lack of dealer support, parts, and reliability being the downfall of the Ducati. I think if the FXDR had straight bars that were jsut a tad bit higher, a bit longer tail end and got rid of the hideous signals/license plate mount and just did what Rizoma did, and pulled back the extended pegs just a bit that it would solve a LOT of its identity crisis...thats the big thing...Harley guys dont consider it a Harley, Non Harley guys like it but its just not enough bike to compete with the competition for a "Sport Cruiser" arena. That said, I do like the thing...but would need to add a LOT to it (Stage 3/4 to the motor, carbon wheels, lots of extra parts between signals/tail section/etc..) to get me to plunk down the cash.
Simple fix would be a more parts and accessories readily available. Seems more coming out recently but it was a slow start for the bike. Also price plus parts needed to make it look the way it should is way too expensive for potential buyers. This would be more of a dyna replacement and seating of one shot this potential sales in the foot as well.
The dealership I work for has only had 2 all year. One sold but it got sold to a customer who was wishy washy for pretty much a grand over cost. They other one has just sat and people point at it but that’s about it
while I understand the move of HD to venture in new markets (FXDR, LiveWire, PanAmerica,...) in order to tap into the "younger" generation, I really hope they do not forget their roots and heritage, what makes them special and sets them aside. While the FDXR looks good per se, it isn't a typical HD and thus cannot be seen in the same context as, say, a Road King or a Fat Boy.
I tried one last Fall. I acknowledge the performance is as advertised and the bike was a lot of fun to ride. With that said, the forward riding position and the low bars need mid foot controls. Feet forward on a performance bike feels weird, uncomfortable and you have less control. Otherwise, I don't care much for its styling and it's way overpriced. I would get a Breakout for its beautiful, classic looks and go forward with any mods from there.
Matt, thanks do you carry the Rizoma line of accessories? I got a 2019 FXDR and need the fender eliminator, my son oives in Calif he can ordrr for me and send it to the Philippines. Thanks much, take care Bro await your reply
Amazing looking bike, probably my favorite in the lineups, but at that price its unobtainium, might wait a few years and pick one up at half the original msrp
I bought one recently. It's the most beautiful & sexiest thing I've ever seen that doesn't have breasts. I watched videos about people saying the riding position was weird. I personally think it's fine. It's a bad ass bike. It's not built for cruising so much. You pull up on one of these & you have Arrived! Haha. I haven't stopped staring at mine. I'm going to change the exhaust, rear light nonsense & front indicators.
I am a fan of the bike, but just like the night rod, muscle and sport glide find the fitment of forward controls a bizarre decision and a deal breaker.
I didn’t care for the rear end treatment. Not sure what Harley was thinking? For that price, it’s stupid to have to fix the ugly! It would have been nice if you had actually shown the rear light kit working? Is that even a legal mod? Also, the clip ons need to be an inch higher. I was putting too much weight on the bars. For me, The 114 breakout is a better choice!
I wanted to love the FXDR, but it is not comfortable. I wanted to get off of it immediately after getting on it and the test ride felt like torture. I don't want to be contorted into a clam shell shape.
I watched this video last year and a couple of other videos of the fxdr.i was a little sceptical on the looks.i didn’t like it completely neither did i hate it.a couple of months have passed by since i saw videos of the fxdr.now with this quarantine thing going on i am watching a lot of videos both old and new.so when i am looking at the fxdr now,i feel like its grown on me.i feel like my taste has changed or maybe matures in a couple of months.i have a zx14r but now i want this one desperately.the fat rear just beckons me every time i watch videos of it.sadly this is bot available in India neither do i know if H-D INDIA has any plans of getting it.plus Harley’s are so damn expensive out here along with the normal servicing.
More people will buy more Harleys if the prices come down alittle. It will make Harley be more competitive, and in a long run they'll make more $. This bike shouldn't cost over $15k.
I like the bike but way overpriced. I have an M109R that i bought new for $10k and i feel the bikes are comparable. There's just too much of a gap of comparable bikes in price.
Sorry Matt much respect for you and all your team is doing with bikes at your shop but you asked. First price is why most and me will not buy a FXDR, I couldn't watch the video because of the hideous bars. Maybe HD should throw some normal drag bars on and not these clip on....what is the handlebar style on the FXDR? I know they attach by clip ons right? But what is the style of the bar design? Thanks for the content Matt. Ride Safe.
Needs mid controls. The price is what keeps me away. I have a VRod. And the 240 mm tire makes it hard to turn in the twisties, and I don't think would be much better.
When you make a bike that supposed to be performance but its with wrong riding triangle, too much rack angle, too wide rear tire and priced too high you get bike that doesn't sell good.
The Harley Davidson fxdr is an amazing bike and I love it but it feels like they don't know there is competition in the market. The Harley has no electronics other than abs but it's still $850 costlier than the xDiavel which has all the electronics available in the motorcycle world. I don't want any electronics but don't charge for something you are not giving me.
I bought one. This bike has so much power is unbelievable! The modern style this bike brings clears the road way ahead. Definitely a buy! Don’t mind the price tag. You’ll be satisfied once you get on it.
Looks amazing with the fender gone/airbox gone/pipe replaced. That guy did a really good job. This bike has so much potential.
Typical H-D...get the bike & spend another 5K to correct the design and engineering flaws to make the bike right.

Yea, they only made it for two years.
I agree a full tail section with rear rack and bags would make this bike a great touring motorcycle! Also a windshield!!!
Nice looking bike, tastefully done.
Less rake , regular rear tire , and they honestly have a winner
Chris Garcia In addition, add some mid controls and drop the price and this would be my next bike.
I'll wait for the new 975cc Bareknuckle Streetfighter! It will be the best handling HD ever made and if it has at least 140 horsepower I'll be first in line to get one!!
I doubt it will be any where close to 140 HP....But will see!
I love the bike but I think the problem is 1) the 21 k price tag and 2) no mid controls.
why would a sport oriented bike have mid controls. I prefer the forwards on it. The mids would be too cramped up.
@@raif725 a sport oriented bike would have mids so you can have better control of the bike and ride more aggressively. Also riding a bike with forwards and clip on bars puts you in a less than optimal position to ride aggressively and is uncomfortable AF.
pauly680 do you y’all before you think? This bike would be so stupid with mid controls
Brandon green sure thing dipshit. Who would want controls that give you better handling on a sport oriented bike, right?
love thie vid as always man, i gotta say i do love the FXDR and initially i feel like it got some hate at launch that honestly felt that it wasnt deserved. Now personally for the price and performance i think that the Fat Bob might be the better choice for some people which is unfortunate uz the FXDR i feel should have more attention than it is gettin . Either way great bike and great vid man.
I love this bike!
Not a fan of the tiny rizoma parts, but nice bike and as always good content matt. See you at dealershow. FXDR not a big seller at our dealer either. Sell lots of Road Glide Specials, Limited, Fat Boy, CVO, Fat Bob
Thanks for the comment. Good to know. 👍🏻
@KIRBOSKI
I didnt think of that. I love the look of bikes being lowered but i dislike sacrificing the comfort like my current Deuce. I lowered the rear 3.5" and the front 1" and it corners better but ill never lower the front again! Air ride seems like a good idea👍
@KIRBOSKI
Thanks for the info.
I wanted this bike but my wife rides with me so went with the SGS
Thx Matt great vid. I love the Fxdr just out of my price range I have the Fxdf. I hate to think what he spent to up grade it. And the SE slip on is God awful it's huge in size and price but not in sound.
I can't afford it but I sure do like that machine,
This is going to be another one Harley’s bikes that do better after Harley kills it. Kinda like the V-Rod. People hated it and now people love them. But that’s how people are they hate change until they give it a chance.
So true.
Matt I dont think it's the price as much as it is the looks. The bike looks good with the things he did to it. I agree about Harley people are more traditional than the other way. Stay safe.
I think most people dont understand why this bike looks the way it looks. Probably why it will only last a few years also.
What do you mean? Just curious seeing if you could offer some speculation. Thinking it’s too expensive and will be removed from future lineups?
@@sk8777kid1 its design was influenced by Harley's NHRA drag bike. I do think they're cool bikes, but almost a novelty for a few years more than a timeless design. In my opinion of course. Time will tell.
3 Percent Mick agreed
Huge fan of the FXDR, but let's be honest....never had a chance at that ridiculous price point. Just jaw dropping at how much it costs.
I agree, you can get a indian scout, fix it up, engine too and still be lower cost point! It will smoke this bike.....LOL!
@@CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC707 Not a Indian. Still all Harley for me 😉 But a clubbed out fat bob would be nice and the fxdr can't keep up through the turns.
@@SethEques i have a victory octane, big bore kit, similar motor to the scout...my brothers dyno cant keep up....club out street bob does look good...would be my next
Bike, but cant justify cost tag...lol
it costs way too much... it performs just like a fatbob but they want like 6k more for the FXDR.
The FXDR is exactly $2,500 more than the Fat Bob
Sweet looking bike!
the license plate would have looked better under the rear fairing just above the rear tire and with a custom lite would look really great.
Would like to see a full rear fender on this bike or the tail section extended more rearward.
I believe you have changed the rear view mirrors right?
I’ve got a 2019, less than 200 miles. 16k and it’s yours!
Bring it in.
Live in Iowa....want a sgs
Matt, thanks do you carry the Rizoma line of accessories? I got a 2019 FXDR and need the fender eliminator, my son oives in Calif he can ordrr for me and send it to the Philippines. Thanks much, take care Bro await your reply
Just curious, how have they been selling. I have only seen one outside the dealership in person?
Amazing looking bike, probably my favorite in the lineups, but at that price its unobtainium, might wait a few years and pick one up at half the original msrp
Nice video! I own one and I want to do some modifications on it. Could you please send me the links for the rear lights and bracket? Thank you!!!
They are rizomo. Google it.
Matt Laidlaw I will. Thanks
Price tag is killing the sales for this model. Shame really as it is a great bike and bags of fun!
August 20th 9 or 10 AM Pacific time ?? or Central ??
10:00 Central time. Milwaukee time.
Hi )) I could find nothing in the comments but anyone knows what type of Rizoma turn signals are installed at the front? Corsa or Leggera? Thanks.
I wanted to love the FXDR, but it is not comfortable. I wanted to get off of it immediately after getting on it and the test ride felt like torture. I don't want to be contorted into a clam shell shape.
I'm in Australia and the asking price atm is $32850 aud, stock price, just insane, i want one but at that price its asking way too much 😭
Have these been selling well?
Ever ride one of these with stage 4?
Nice bike. But I feel the price is killing it for how much bike you get for the money.
Nice Yamaha you got there
I want one!
I feel like harley should focus on the beginner bikes and catch people who are entering the world of motorcycles, get them hooked from the get go.
Fancy Shit right there, beautiful build !
But it is, this bike handles amazingly! Nothing like a Vrod and much more powerful, the Vrod is really heavy and don’t launch compare to the FXDR
I love the bike. But I will say it's the price that turns people off. In my opinion.
I wish it had mid controls
When you make a bike that supposed to be performance but its with wrong riding triangle, too much rack angle, too wide rear tire and priced too high you get bike that doesn't sell good.
I know what you're feeling, but it's really a performance cruiser, not a Tuono and viewed in that light it's very cool, especially with these tweaks.
