    I’m more of a car guy than a motorcycle guy, but so far this is my favorite motorcycle of them all as it combines an American cruiser with a sport bike

    I got one, and it’s awesome. To me - It’s a sport bike / Harley hybrid. Fast, agile and still a Harley-Davidson. Seating position is fine, once you get used to it. It is a fun bike to ride. The engineering team created something that impressed me, so I bought one. I recommend test riding one before you comment on anything other than how it looks to you. You won’t be disappointed, and your comments will have some credibility. Plus, you can have fun with nothing to lose.

      This is an exciting new offering from the motor company. Mix a breakout with a VRSC, add the 114, and the recipe renders a really interesting bike. I prefer this from the Original Real Deal to whatever anyone else is offering from Britain or Asia.

    I purchase a 2019 FXDR last week, my third Harley Davidson. I traded my 2015 VRod Muscle for it. I liked the VRod a lot, but IMHO this is the best bike I have ever ridden! Most of all the bad rap is just nitpicking. I am 6'0" and find the forward controls great! It handles beautifully, great lean angle. It's ergonomics are incredible. If Harley Davidson designed this bike for the younger generation, I don't understand what they were thinking! I hope HD all the success they deserve. The problem as I see it is that the younger generation can't pull themselves away from their gaming consoles or social media to enjoy riding an adrenaline pumping bike. I agree this is not your typical Harley, nor was the VRod, which is exactly why I bought it! Did I mention this is the best bike I've ever ridden?

      I used to have a 2008 Night Rod Special and ended up trading it back in 2013 due to life circumstances. It was heartbreaking for me as I loved it. I'm hoping to get on a bike again next year and I'd love to have this FXDR. My only hope now is to get a used one.

    Price will always be an issue with HD but they don't seem to care so its a moot point even debating it. Buy a Triumph Rocket 3, 2300cc and will crush anything in the HD lineup and is 3k cheaper than a Streetbob.

    • @Bredaxe
      @Bredaxe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I wish i could like this comment more than once. The Rocket 3 kills this bike and is about $6k less than this bike. Local dealer had one for $14,5k. Shows just how out of touch Harley is.

    • @Bredaxe
      @Bredaxe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@mattseaman5397 At this point, some parts are made in their Thailand factory and the rest made in the UK including assembly. Even with tariffs and employee benefits, they keep the prices down. I think the problems Harley is having right now are labour costs and a CFO who knows how to price their goods. He/she is not living in the same reality as the other manufacturers. There was a time when you would walk into a Harley dealer, get put on an waitlist for a bike that was marked up above MSRP. No haggling, too bad, pay it or get out because the two lawyers and the dentist standing behind you are willing to pay whatever. That's no longer the reality of the Harley market.

      @obfuscated3090 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use an inflation calculator and the prices for BASE models haven't changed much since I bought mine in 1988. I was pretty common then and now. A working man/woman who was serious could swing ~8500 then or ~15K for a Street Bob today. Ignore the high dollar luxo barges. today just like bikers ignored them before. Given the aftermarket support any big twin is a PRACTICAL lifetime motorcycle. I beat the shit out of mine for thirty years and it's as good as any of the riceburners I owned or worked on.

    • @Bredaxe
      @Bredaxe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@obfuscated3090 They want the younger crowd who don't really buy into the Harley image at present, and the guy that trades his bike in every couple years for the new model. HD would be out of business if the base purchased one every 30 years. Their prices may have adjusted for inflation, but people don't generally buy motorcycles and calculate for inflation nor do they expect to own them for long. They compare it to other bikes and as of now, Harley is priced above most manufacturers. So far their sales are down world wide and they are panicking because their traditional ownership base are leaving the market.

    Suzuki Boulevard M109R: 128 HP 764 Lbs
    Harley Davidson V-Rod:125 HP 650 lbs
    please stop saying that the FXDR competes with any of the bikes listed above.
    it doesn't.
    Harley basically took their soft tail frame and their same under powered garbage 114 motor and slapped some fairings and a sport looking exhaust on it.
    this is a phony baloney sporty pretender bike.
    It is the equivalent of a grandpa putting on young people clothes and then pretending he's hip.
    If they really wanted a modern bike with a modern motor that modern humans would like and buy, then they would just bring back the V-Rod and price it under all the bikes listed above that it is slower than.

I now have 22,000 miles on it. More than most on this model. It is a great bike. Any q’s let me know. Simply there isn’t anything I can say negative other than the cost to maintain and modify. The results are very good. Don’t be fooled. It’s fast. With potential of more power if your spend $. When stage 2 is completed I will be dragging it at an official drag strip. Just a dream to ride. Perfect for 150 miles or less. Not for cross country. Ride safe broskis

    Thank you Harley, you're finally becoming a modern motorcycle company. There's more to life than heavy cruisers. The majority of which make more noise than power. What's more American than freedom of choice. Obviously not everyone will like this and that's ok, most people hate change. It's a brave new motorcycling world. All company's at some point need to evolve and grow or they will cease to exist. This is Harleys time. You all know the definition of insanity, Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Looks like Harley just figured that out. Ride safe all.

  • @phineashenshaw
    @phineashenshaw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Other than the styling, I did not find the performance much different than the 2018 Fatbob 114 overall. But It is a noticeably lighter bike and because of the tire size combination, it drops into a turn pretty quick. The FXDR is a step in the right direction for sure.
    My problem is with the price. $22000 for a bike that has no accommodation for luggage or a back rest. This is kind of expense for a drag bike/bar hopper. Especially when you can buy even a Breakout 114, tune it up and have a bike that is kind of similar for a few thousand cheaper. Plus if I was to do a longer distance ride, the bike is setup to have touring accommodations.

Basically a Yamaha Chopper close but not as close as the Honda Fury in the chopper looks department but still looks close to a chopper. That has been since 2008! The problem is those that don't buy HDs when they're younger won't buy them when their older either. The average age of HD riders continues to increase and the younger generation isn't buying them, near what the previous generations did. It's only starting to hurt them a little now(13% decrease in sales) but in the long run, it could tank the company. So yes, they do care if one less customer does buy one, because that's one less lifetime customer. They wouldn't be releasing all these un-HD motorcycles if they didn't care.

    • @9999plato
      @9999plato 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, one less customer X millions IS HURTING HARLEY. They are hurting financially because their buisness is based upon selling shiny chromey bikes rather than transportation for the average man. The more expensive the better. If your bike isnt chromey or heavy enough they will sell you the chromey special parts you want, a few hundred dollars at a time of screaming chicken dodads made in China crap every month. Or if you are fool enough you can buy the super deluxe super size FXLLXDRVIIII Turdmore special for $40,000.00 and look like every other guy who bought the exact same bike off the showroom floor for your next poker run. Better yet you can tow it to Sturgis or Daytona rather than riding it. It might get dirty, or break down ya know. You dont see lots of people milling around Japanese showrooms because they are out riding theirs, not waiting for them to be repaired. I forgot, HD makes more from merchandising their name on diapers and bandanas than selling bikes. Thats why they are moving much of their production to Asia.

    I rode this bike and as a 5'7" rider I felt it to be very uncomfortable. I was knelt over way to far and after a a short period my arms/wrist were hurting. So, price... HD has always come at a premium, that is HD. The most similar bike is the breakout I think so ... the FXBRS (114 Breakout) goes for about 20K.
    For 21.4k you get progressive inverted front forks, front dual disk brakes, led lighting all the way around, improved fork geometry to reduce trail & improve handling and an aluminum swing arm. plus a 4.4 instead of 3.5 gallon tank. Worth it for $1400?

      These are nice comfortble bikes for long hauls. I've had seat time on late model cruisers. All bikes are cool. I don't go anywhere far. Most of my riding is within a 20 mile radius. So I really just go out for the adrenaline 2 hours and I'm back home watching motorcycle and gun videos on youtube. Some guys on the cruisers really hate you for being fast. You can see it in their faces. Other guys are cool and wave. I don't care what you're on. If you wave I wave back...

Most importantly they add great variety to the marketplace, give all riders more choice and options in the motorcycle world and add to market competition. That Bike sure has a lot of Power! I know its what the kids nowadays love to feel! At the same time, just by watching you ride it, it has enough weight to keep it glued to the road, and that by itself is big plus!! Most sport bikes have little weight and lots of power and that makes them dangerous. By that , I mean easy to spill or lose control of. It sure looks fun to ride right out of the box! Once you set the adjustments on the suspension on it to your liking, its get on it and go!! The weight combined with the power and how it was built keeps you safer, and focused on the fun factor!

      Sweet bikes. But only almost unbreakable. With the power they produced the ones I have come across all had second gear out. Probably from ham footed shifting but at least the torque makes 1st to 3rd shifting quite possible, with smokey results (may have been older rubber but impressive nonetheless). Harley is a modern classic. The FXDR is just a bike like the VROD only thing different is the motor. This bike is only going to attract the same people that bought the VROD but now they wont even get the great VROD engine. My thumbs down to this new style. If you want to attract new riders, make a good affordable bike. This bike is way too expensive. Harley needs to focus on making money through volume of sales and not trying to make all there money with just one bike. The age of people that Harley is trying to attract, can't afford this bike. How stupid are these people at Harley. I think that this bike is going to be the Edsel that ford flopped on.

    Harley Davidson (in Australia at least) use old technology on new models, and they are usually over priced. I would rather buy a different brand V-Twin cruiser for half the price, and get almost the same quality. Don't jump on me with the hate, it is just an opinion from an Australian, most of the Harleys that I see over here are Japanese made Harley's, not the real Made in the USA kinda Harleys.

    It's still too expensive, Harley is making all of the right decisions pertaining to making new models that attempt to usher in a new customer base. But when your current demographic loves the classic Harley design and nothing more, who is this bike appealing too? Harley's long time customer base is slowly fading away, the traditional Harley enthusiast isn't gonna be buying a performance cruiser anytime soon. They want a bike with peak comfort and nothing more. So who is this bike appealing too?? Millenials? Millenials aren't buying a twenty two thousand dollar motorcycle. For any step forward Harley Davidson has made with this bike, they've taken several steps back with the pricing. Unless their 2020 lineup does somwthing to shake up the foundation I don't see Harley Davidson lasting more than 5 years up to this point.

    I personally think that Harley saw what Keanu Reeves was doing with ARCH, and quickly jumped on the bandwagon. Plus, the FXDR is about half price of what a ARCH's starting price is (although Arch being built fully custom to the customer's specs and wants before it rolls out). To me it seems that the FXDR is in this weird area where those who can afford it as a second bike could possibly afford an ARCH (the better product) anyway, those who might want it (younger generations) can't afford it as a first or second bike so they're sticking with Sportsters or metrics, and the older generation Harley guys who might be able to afford it don't want it and aren't really supporting Harley anymore anyway because they bought their "last bike" 10 years ago. So in other words, the FXDR is a bike built for no one.

  • @BuffShamansplz
    @BuffShamansplz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    They really have to make it or break it with their new platform for people in my generation to consider picking up a HD. This means making their new bikes competitively priced.
    I'm considering trading up my NRS for a Super Duke 1290 (GT if I'm lucky enough to find a discounted one) and even though most people consider that pricey for a naked bike, I have little doubt that it's going to be cheaper than whatever HD is going to put out, and it's probably going to perform better because HD's aim is to selling staging kits. HD's brand power could overshadow any performance gaps (which realistically probably won't be that big), but they need to come down on price.
    Anyway I'd love to take this bike out for a test ride but no way I'm walking home with it, even if it's the best bike I've ever ridden, not at 21k (+ dealer fees).
