I dedicated this song to my best friend who committed suicide in 2007. I miss him dearly. I also got the words "Paper Wings" tattoo'd on my ribs. This song has a lot of meaning to me. (Aside from whatever the band intended it to mean, when I hear it, I think of him.)
This song has so much meaning to me in so many different ways. The way I've been in and out of relationships and depression. I tend to listen to this song when I need a pick me up or a good reflection.
So i grew up with two older brothers wich introduced me in such a young age to this kind of music. With the years, i've tried to find my own music taste and doesn't had listening very often to this music anymore... To be brief, after this long time i ended up here again and now i cant stop listening to especially this song but also so many more, in memories of the past
How in the name of Cerberus the 3-headed dog that guards the gates of HELL does the drummer maintain that level of heel-toe in the intro and first and second chorus live? Genuine musical appreciation. Standing ovation merited. *Chef's kiss*
"Is this the life that you lead, or the life that led for you?" "Will you take the road, that's been laid out before you?" Those lines stood out to me when I first heard this song, and sometimes I have to repeat them to myself to keep going.
Oh man, this song gives me the most memories of my life and Burnout 3. I just remember causing destruction and wrecking my opponents while listening to this song. CrashFM, the classic. :) 😌
HonestGhost You should try flatout 2! It's awesome and has some great songs too! "Give It All" - Rise Against "Not Listening" - Papa Roach "Flat On The Floor" - Nickelback "7 Minutes In Heaven" - Fall Out Boy ...
this song brought tears to my eyes. it just has such pure and true emotions that it brings out emotions in everyone can relate to that listens to it. its just beautiful!
It does not matter who you are or where you are from, if you understand this song and have a life of value, this song will pull out nostalgia from a past you had let go. It fills me with sorrow to see how many people have no value to their life, and no perception of what gives it value.
i heard this song 4 years ago the first time...i started to cry and i still dont know why - this song just...got me - its just moving - now i'm 19 and i still love it and rise against
I just saw Rise Against 2 weeks for the 1st time in the 20 plus year career. They blew me away & now Im going thru their discography a lot of which I already knew except this one. This one kills it!!
+Federico Biassini you should check out the Braincoats. They have a song called 99 Fatalities that kicks so much ass. Not terribly into their other stuff but their heavily influenced by Bad Religion
"And I can't tell if you're laughing, between each smile there's a tear in your eye, there's a train leaving town in an hour, it's not waiting for you and neither am I." I swear to god....Tim's a genius. That's exactly how I feel about my friend right now....This song is so addictive! When I got it for the first time I think I listened to it like, three or more times over!
till my personal livesaver 2023. I believe, i heard it first 2009 with 15years, teenage hell. now i'm 28, married, three kids, got to the lowest point in my whole life due to depression and it dragged me Out of my hole. THANK YOU

This used to be just a song when i was younger but listening to it now i think it is describing the life of 2 people, one whose friend and made lots of money and ditched their friends along the way and the other didn't take the advice given to him and doesn't have the things they want. It's crazy how you don't realise things until you have lived a little.
every so often i lose myself in my problems I frankly burn out and dwell in my problems. But then i come to this song and i get a tear in my eye and i realize that the train waits for no one and i should move my ass to the beat of the music and it pumps me up !
True but it's good to know you have solidarity. If there is one thing worse than suffering it's suffering when you think it's only happening to you. We are all fucked, all scared all trying to do our best. Rejoice in that. All 7 billion of us are either scared or delusional. That makes me feel less shit
i remember when i knew very little english so i tried my best to get what the song was about and i dedicated this to you... so many years have passed since then and i just hope your are okay.. i hope you are leading your life the way you wanted, i hope you are no longer using paper wings but actual wings that take you to your dreams.. i hope will we cross paths somewhere else tonight?...
Who would have thought a simple game soundtrack so many years ago would turn me onto a band I really didn't understand but later in life changed my entire perspective on life.
The best are black masks and gasoline, blood red white and blue, and state of the Union/ give it all. Go search the first two songs if you don't know them and actually listen to rise against before they were very well know.
There is a lot more to making a life with someone else than finding each other attractive, liking the same music, having the same hobbies, even loving one another. Sometimes in life you have to make choices about the things you value most. And if this girl's religion and culture played a strong role in her life and her family's life, then obviously it would mean something to her. It's like that in a lot of non-Western cultures.

burnout 3 had one of the best racing game soundtracks ever :D
I have fond memories of dealing with the insane levels of pop-in to this song. Also, first girl I dated I met at a rise against gig
I heard them first time playin Tony Hawks UG 😀 Give it all
This is one of the most underrated Rise Against songs, maybe ever. This is a damn anthem, and it's ten years old!
Well said.
Yup, I totally agree

It was nice being 17 having that tingling hope around your heart and listening this with your friends
I miss this kind of music
It's not gone, just listen to it. Some of their new songs are similar to that style as well, like Lanterns for instance.
But are there any new bands with these lyrics and style?
I still think there good from beginning to end

If anything rise against is one of the very few bands that has actually stuck to there roots, all of their music is absolutely amazing.

when your only way of coping with the bullshit life throws at you is to listen to music that makes you dwell on it. Vicious cycle, really.
My favorite band almost only writes songs on depression and suicide so I know how that feels.

In my opinion The best 3: Savior, Satellite, Give It All
Adrian pawłowski I'd say Drones, Audience of One, Paper Wings
Cameron Worgan
I'd say Life less Frightening, Paper Wings, Hero of War
