Yea I had to search for the real version, you're exactly right. I had this CD back in the mid 2000's and I can't just start from the real "start" of the song lol
"but how we survive is what makes us who we are" best line....for anyone going through a bad break up or something shitty in your life. just remember things will get better eventually....in the end you'll come out stronger. We just have to be strong and not do something stupid that we will regret later.
I have no idea who you are and what exactly is your taste in music, but I am hoping you likely to give it a shot! *watch?v=ywhvj7UaDHo* Superb indeed! TH-cam the video and experience a fun time!!
+Jebblez I know this is a late reply but i'm here to agree with you. I went to my first Rise Against concert in 2012; felt connected with the entire audience and the band as we sung along to acoustic versions of "Audience of One" and "Swing Life Away". It was an incredible concert with lots of passion coming from the band and the audience.
SmackDown! Vs. RAW 2007 pounded this song into my fucking head for most of my childhood. Its an amazing song and even though I've probably heard it 400+ times it still sounds great!
Big fan of Rise Against and knew most of their popular songs before I got into them when I heard this on SvR 2007...what an amazing intro and just an awesome message in the song
rise against has been around for about 17-18 years and they were only popular for about 5 of those Some people do not realize they were famous, some people do not realize how long they went without fame. the lead singer has been at it sense 1997 I believe, with "the killing tree" and then went on to make rise against. growing up he was a role model for me. Tim McIlrath
I was going through some bad times when I first heard this song, and it really helped get me through that shit. Listening to this didn't make all my problems at the time go away, but it did help in venting out some of that stress that I was feeling. Great song, awesome band.
I listen to this the 5th time in a row today, to gain the strenght to help my friend who has early stated cancer. But you don´t have to empathy about it. Because we ALL ´ve been sorry, we all ´ve been hurt ... just how we survive ...... it is what makes us who we are
Whenever i hear this song, out my conscience dipped in black, looms a road. And i'm always running... running, onto my future. That's what this song inspires for me, anyway. How about you all?
"An obvious disinterest, a barely managed smile A deep nod in agreement, a status quo exile I shirk my obligations, I miss all your deadlines I excel at quitting early, and fucking up my life" This part is my whole existence in a nutshell.
You're missing the point, hes trying to tell you that we've all been through relatively the same thing, all have had trials and tribulations but its how you get on with your life and move past it that makes you the kind of person you are.
I think the message is pretty clear... It's to all the people out there who feel so weak, and so tired from the constant barrage of suffering their lives have thrown them they just want to give up. This song is like a wake-up call.
This part I REALY Love 2:50 - 3:30 All smiles and sunshine, a perfect world on a perfect day Everything always works out, I have never felt so fucking great All smiles and sunshine, a perfect world on a perfect day Everything always works out, I have never felt so great It couldnt have been said better....Life isn't like this
I only realized that this was rise against years after coming back to SVR 2007, so having became a fan of them and then goin back to playin 07’ was like a full circle moment. One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands in one of my favorite games all time
Some of the best lyrics to a song, EVER. And I just love the fact I can't even see the red part of the dislike part of the bar. So many likes. Thats the way it needs to be.
In that short minute of intro music you can hear thousands of troubled life stories. Life has been less than kind for all of them. But how they survive is what makes them who they are.
One of the most underrated songs of all time, it's message is beautiful, because it's not what you do that makes you who you are, but how you survive. Everytime the chorus kicks in I can feel my back shivering with an incredible flow of wonderful feelings. (:
I actually forgot about this one playing SVR 2007. Tbh it wasnt a song i played enough of selecting the soundtrack but coming back to that. Nostalgia just hits!!
This song is incredible!!! I also love Prayer of the Refugee, Paper Wings and Give It All. Screw it. every Rise Against song is unique. I heard of Paper Wings in Burnout 3 Takedown and Give it All in NFS Underground 2 and heard Prayer of the Refugee of TH-cam.
This song is absolutely incredible. It has gotten me through so much shit in my life. My favourite song of all time, and Rise Against is one of my favourite bands.
i like the part after the line... But how we survive, (who are we) is what makes us who we are. the guitar riff or whatever it is... i love it XD it sounds awesome ... Rise Against, YOU RULE XD!!!!!
Man first here in this song in SVR 2007 I honestly thought it was just a guitar riff because the words were so fast but now that I understand the lyrics this song is deep
Rise Against define what is being yourself, Straight Edge, Vegetarian and against animal cruelty, they're not fitting a trend, they're not trying to look cool or be different, they're doing it because it suits them.
I'm 'Emo' and I have a life, I have friends, AMAZING friends whom I love and they love me too, I'm also an A/A* student at school. It just shows behind closed doors no one really knows what is happening, bad things can happen even to the best of us. But we should keep fighting, it becomes an addiction, people look at us as freaks as soon as they find out. I fight it off every day, and get tired of fighting to the point I just cry and give up and harm myself. But like you said keep going
All smiles and sunshine, a perfect world on a perfect day. Everything always works out, I have never felt so great. LIFE ISN'T LIKE THIS! I love this song
The shortened version came up on Pandora for me and I thought I was being gaslit when I didn't hear the intro, then didn't hear the intro for the official version on YT either. Glad I'm not crazy and the real version exists.
been getting lazier and lazier all day, but as soon as i put this on i feel like getting things done. Rise against geniunly makes me wanna improve myself puts a smile on my face!
@TheGoWLord Its the intro to the song, at the Rise Against concert I went to a few years back, Survive+Intro was their opening song. This is the full version of the song, and I don't know about you but to me music > singing, kind of like how the story/gameply > graphics with video games.
this & swing life away are my two favorite songs by rise against because one they are right when you think about life. two if you are a positive person you live by all this & feel that way which over time i've become that kind of person. and three those two songs make you want enjoy life more cause you think that way cause those songs help you realize how amazing life is how worth living is. and that is one another amazing thing about rise against that they help you think that way, & the world2
@HUA12312 I got the album aswell, and this intro is the outro for The Good Left Undone. I'm used to the intro being for this song, but I'm unsure now that the original cd got this intro as outro for The Good Left Undone.
This song is awesome but made me feel down about myself. It made me think about my life and how i never tried in life. Now that im about to become an adult, i have nothing to show for it. I just let time pass by me and now im just this person who doesn't give a crap about myself.
Agreed, in a less bogus way. To me the song is about finding the strength to move on when you feel like crap. Life is crap but you gotta roll with the punches and be happy that you're alive. "We've all been sorry, we've all been hurt, but how we survive, is what makes us who we are"
This song needs the epic intro, it's just not the same without it.
Absolutely right
I wonder why is it cut out on the single track
Yea I had to search for the real version, you're exactly right. I had this CD back in the mid 2000's and I can't just start from the real "start" of the song lol
This song has gotten me through many dark times, including the recent death of my dear husband, Jon. RIP sweetheart.
"but how we survive is what makes us who we are" best line....for anyone going through a bad break up or something shitty in your life. just remember things will get better eventually....in the end you'll come out stronger. We just have to be strong and not do something stupid that we will regret later.
The longer version is so much better
Ill take a longer version of a rise against song any day
Seriously! Bummer it didn't go on the album. Hell of an ender
it really is, brings me so much nostalgia
My first reaction to the longer version on the disk was priceless.

This songs lyrics are perfect. Rise Against is an A+ band that only gets B- recognition.
I have no idea who you are and what exactly is your taste in music, but I am hoping you likely to give it a shot!
*watch?v=ywhvj7UaDHo*
Superb indeed!
TH-cam the video and experience a fun time!!
B- band

ClassicRockMan95 wow you're missing out on a lot of good music then.
I just saw them live on Sunday and I can say without a doubt that you are missing the world.
+Jebblez I know this is a late reply but i'm here to agree with you. I was going through some bad times when I first heard this song, and it really helped get me through that shit. Listening to this didn't make all my problems at the time go away, but it did help in venting out some of that stress that I was feeling. Great song, awesome band.
