Yeah when she was mentioning that his voice sounds like its almost about to break, its because it was, no training and screaming like he was was unsustainable but produced such a raw emotionally driven sound that resonates in such an awesome way. the nowhere sessions of the classic songs show how big the change in his voice was after vocal training, the songs are completely different.

This song kinda triggered something in me many years ago. It wasn’t a new song to me, I had been listening to it since it came out and seen them live a couple times. It just didn’t really hit me until I was in a certain situation and happened to hear it. That day I made a choice to make a change and walk away from someone and something that I had put many years of my life into up to that point, trying desperately to make it work despite all the bullshit. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I realized that the mental toll it was taking on me wasn’t worth what I was getting in return, so I walked away. It’s weird how you can hear a song countless times and then when you hear it at the right time and place it can have a completely different and profound effect on you like that. Either way, I’ve never looked back since I made that choice, and the only thing I’d go back and change is that I wish I had done it sooner.
I'm sorry about the situation you went through for this song to click. So many songs I've listened to all my life have had multiple personal interpretations depending on my age, experiences I'm going through, or different moods while listening. It's what I love most about music and really highlights great and timeless song writing imo.
This song hits me hard too. Not 100% sure why. But it just resonates. Maybe it is the message of the song with the chaos of the music. Sometimes I swear my brain won't switch off and the noise is just all over the place.
Has CV ever broken down a Volbeat song?? Michael Paulsen has such a unique voice. And the music shreds. Also, one of the best live rock bands around. Check out "Lonesome Rider" live. The studio track is him trading choruses with Sarah Blackwood. When they perform it live he sings BOTH parts and even changes his voice to a higher/softer pitch to do her part. It's amazing.
I second that she should react to volbeat. Lonesome rider, Lola Montez, heaven nor hell, fallen, or cape of our hero would all be great choices, but that whole outlaw gentleman and shady ladies album is fantastic
yes!! I'd love to see this. I think something like the live version of For Evigt would also be an interesting watch for her with Olsen featuring, such different voices but both powerhouses!
@@AlarikMac21Those are all great choices. I could rattle off so many good choices. For Evigt, Still Counting, Sad Man's Tongue, Mirror and the Ripper, A Warrior's Call, Becoming, Leviathan, Heaven Nor Hell, etc...I could keep going...haha. I mentioned Lonesome Rider Live because his vocals are tremendous, especially live.
First time watching your videos. I was assuming it was another basic reaction channel, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Your attention to detail has been blowing my mind. I know this band from a Game OST on 2004 (NFSU2), after that it follow them and now are ones of my favorite bands, i had the fortune to see them on live, and was amazing!! definitely i will not miss this video, regards from Chile.
FINALLY!!! MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BAND!!! First CD I ever got at a kid was their first album! Watch Give It All for their original sound. And Help Is On The Way is a heartbreaking one reminding me of hurricane Katrina. But I literally have never heard a song from them I didn't like! Those are just a couple to mention. I've got a hell of a lot more to suggest for any purpose! That'd why I love them!
Loving this breakdown. If you find time, please do Re-Education through labor. Another good one and especially thought provoking. From what I know about this one, they highlight the Elephant and the polar bear, it could be interpreted as a political statement.
Honestly, every song from Sufferer and the Witness is a melter. Front to back, the album has stayed close to my heart since I discovered it in my teens as the introduction to this band. That being said, Injection will never, ever be skipped in my household.
Glad to see you take a look at one of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite bands. If you're going to check out more songs by them, I would heavily recommend Satellite
This is one of my all time favourite bands. I love Tim's voice, I love how they play with tempo shifts, I love their lyrics, their energy, all of it. But more than anything else, I love how every part of their music speaks to me from a place of deep, deep compassion and thoughtfulness. And I think no song encapsulates what I mean better than "Tragedy + Time" and I would love to see you react to it. The song, to me, is about the importance of acknowledging and accepting sadness and grief as a necessary part of life, in order to be able to overcome and grow out of it. It makes you feel seen, it gives you hope and perspective and it is one of those songs, that has probably saved thousands of lives already. And I think a lot more people out there could use a song like that, so I'd be very happy if it could find a platform on your channel. Lots of love to all of you. Keep up the good work @TheCharismaticVoice #betterhelp
I love the analysis E! Would love to see you dive more into Punk and Ska. The Offspring, Bad Religion, Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish are all great bands that would be fun to dive into!
I looooooved this band in high school. Haven't listened to it in years but it still brings me back. They have a lot of really good songs I would just listen to on repeat for hours. Hope you do another video on them at some point. Saw them live back in 2010 and they were great. I never realized at the time how much symbolism they put into their music. I think they're the only band I've seen where the audience at one point sang an entire verse for them.
An overlooked Rise Against song lyrically I believe is Collapse Post Amerika. Its the first song on Appeal to Reason and it's an electric, really strong way to open an album.
I've always listened to this song as an un-love song. Like two people in a relationship that have just grown apart and don't know how to go about going their separate ways
This song always reminded me of a woman who I loved when I was younger but let go of my life. Two years ago we connected again thanks to this song and living together now!
I only recently started listening to Rise Against, but have grown to absolutely love them. So excited to see this deep dive since this song basically lives rent free in my head most of the time.
Look in her eyes as she enjoys the song. What a brilliant reaction to a brilliant song. You can see the excitement she has for this absolute banger. So enjoyable to watch.
Elizabeth, thanks for introducing me to another great artist. I suggest everyone check out your library of videos, as they will likely learn of a new favorite. My new favorites are The Warning, a power trio of 3 sisters from Mexico and Angelina Jordan, a self taught jazz singer who can sing just about anything. I have no doubt at all, both will be creating awesome music for decades to come.
@@bse523 Since all songs by The Warning are short, I vote for two songs from their August 29th 2022 concert at Teatro Metropolitan. Can pick any two as there isn't a bad one.
It's honestly a shame Tim completely broke his voice because of the early punk days, luckily he's getting back up to it again! Last album and tour he sounded so much better
Seen them for their Black Market tour some years ago now and I felt like he was struggling to sing it. I actually really respected that though, he had to of known he was struggling, yet he ploughed on anyway. Was still an awesome show.
Saw them at Louder Than Life a couple years ago and he sounded amazing, but some songs are difficult for singers to perform after so many years. David Draiman is a good example, he's an amazing vocalist but some songs he just doesn't have quite the same voice as he use to 20 years ago.
This the song that introduced me to Rise Against. I went right out and bought the CD and played it nonstop for a few months. It still comes into rotation from time to time.
Rise Against are one of the few survivors of the punk genre after pivoting to a more poppy sound. Which is to say, yes, their instruments tend to fall apart in their music videos.
The ballad of Hollis Brown.. is a masterpiece of Ups and downs in vocals to get ur nerd on. Please check it out even if u don't use it on ur channel it'll change ur life. Thank you Elizabeth your awesome
If you're dipping your toes into punk my I recommend a few songs from on of my favorite bands, Against Me!: Pints of Guinness Makes You Strong (I prefer the version from The Acoustic EP but its a fantastic early song of theirs), 8 Full Hours of Sleep (This is the song that made me fall in love with Laura Jane Grace's voice there's a comfort to in it), Black Me Out (More of what you would think a punk song to be) and I'll stop with the songs Thrash Unreal and Stop from the album New Wave (These are probably Against Me!'s most recognizable songs I know when i was going through their discography they stood out as songs I heard before knowing them)
I would also recommend Baby, I’m an Anarchist, and You Look Like I Need A Drink for early AM! stuff, and Norse Truth, and Paralytic States for later AM!
I have seen them live an handful of times and this one always has a magical effect on the crowd especially during that softer segment. They are truly exceptional performers.
I'd love to hear your analyses of Hero of War and Make it Stop (September's Children). They're extremely heart wrenching but so well written and so soulful.
How charismatic you gotta be to really dig into every single nuance not only on Tim's voice but also all the work involved in it's production. Bravo, this was a joy to watch!
I highly recommend listening to Tonight The World Dies by Avneged Sevenfold. It's a true underrated gem and really shows off what M. Shadows is capable of.
This is Rise Againsts most popular song for a reason, and inarguably their best, no matter what some OG fans might say. The production is a masterpiece, the lyrics relatable and angry, and Tim is at the peak of his voice. Can't wait for you to analyze more of this awesome band!
Suggestion time again! Red Handed Denial - “Father Said” (Lauren Babic live one take performance) Recentish version of Lauren who can sing beautifully and scream with the best of them.
One song that definitely deserves an analysis is "Ready To Fall" Its incredibly powerful and in my opinion, one of the best examples of Tim's scream singing
Savior was immensely popular, but there are great songs that flew under the radar. Drones, for one. Life Less Frightening. Ready To Fall. Survive. Paper Wings.
Rise Against is amazing. They are one of the few bands that I have seen multiple times. And I would keep seeing them no matter how many times I had seen them before. They sound so good live.
How have you not done an analysis on Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria? You need to do one for Blood Red Summer or A Favor House Atlantic. Claudio has the perfect voice for you to really dive deep and break down for us.
Coheed and Cambria is coming! They've been on my list for some time, and my patrons have finally gotten a song onto my list that I'm interested in analyzing!
@@TheCharismaticVoice I'm excited for that. In that case I'll give one more suggestion from a more personal place that I have wanted you to do since I discovered you years ago. Leon Russell is a local legend here in Tulsa. He greatly inspired a whole generation of artists in the 70s including Elton John and Eric Clapton. I don't feel he gets the recognition he deserves among the rock gods of the past. He has a song called "A Song For You" that he puts so much emotion into that it hurts. The song has been covered by artist ranging from Willie Nelson and Ray Charles to Whitney Houston, Michael Buble and Amy Winehouse. Unique and emotional voice.
I really enjoy your break down of some of my favorite songs. Feel like I hear them in a different way, through your expression and explanation throughout. Looking forward to more.
Completely agree with a lot of other commenters, you need to make a video of the song "Hero of War" - just speaking of anguish in Tim's voice and the emotions conveyed through the lyrics
I hadn't really thought about it before, but the way you highlight the production aspect of this song has helped me understand the role of a producer in making music. The musicians perform the song with their instruments and voices, the producer uses the band as an instrument. Definitely adds another element to the way I think about the music I constantly listen to.
Tim's powerful voice cuts through and really adds great melodic power to the song. Thanks for helping me understand all of this so much better Elizabeth! You should try Alexisonfire doing "This Could Be Anywhere In the World". They use three vocalists to get the clean and powerful effect in their songs instead.
I love this album. So much killer and completely relatable topics. Re-Education (through labor), and Audience of One are definitely stand outs from this same release.

This song hits me hard too. Not 100% sure why. But it just resonates. Maybe it is the message of the song with the chaos of the music. Sometimes I swear my brain won't switch off and the noise is just all over the place.
A friend of mine was going through a similar situation and had this exact response to "This Is Letting Go".
Id love to see your take on their acoustic album, rise against ghost note symphonies. They re-do a bunch of their songs with much more acoustic vibe.
I was about to say the same. It’s such a good album, just a different take on their songs and still as good
It's incredible how she reacts. I don't really speak english but i can understand her, she is so expresive. Nice video
I am so excited for this!!! Please do Swing Life Away or Make It Stop next
god this band is so underrated please do more rise against
Has CV ever broken down a Volbeat song?? Michael Paulsen has such a unique voice. And the music shreds. Also, one of the best live rock bands around. Check out "Lonesome Rider" live. The studio track is him trading choruses with Sarah Blackwood. When they perform it live he sings BOTH parts and even changes his voice to a higher/softer pitch to do her part. It's amazing.
I thought someone was suggesting the Mars Volta for a second. That would be great as well.
Michael has some of the best live vocal performances I've heard from a rock singer for sure
I'm moderately deaf, so it can be difficult to hear some of the songs' details, but your words help bring them to light. Thank you for doing what you do, and I hope to see your channel continue to grow because, let's be honest guys, 1.66M subs is far less than she deserves.
Again, I really appreciate what you do. And yes, I subscribed :)
I know this band from a Game OST on 2004 (NFSU2), after that it follow them and now are ones of my favorite bands, i had the fortune to see them on live, and was amazing!!
definitely i will not miss this video, regards from Chile.
Injection?
actually, the song was "Give it all". Fire song 🔥 Greetings from Chile mi pana!
Thats right, I was thinknin Tony Hawk Underground or whatever @@careccio905
Hell yeah! That was my introduction to Rise Against as well. 😁
The things I would do for a remaster of that game
Best video they have.
This band is great!
My favourite songs are:
"Worth Dying For", "Drones" and "Collapse (Post-Amerika)".
worth dying for is such a fun song, so punchy. always gets me amped
Drones is fantastic
Honestly, every song from Sufferer and the Witness is a melter. Front to back, the album has stayed close to my heart since I discovered it in my teens as the introduction to this band. That being said, Injection will never, ever be skipped in my household.
Oh snap! This is one of my all time favorite songs. One of these days I'll get to see them live.
Seen them a couple times, absolutely awesome live
One of my fav shows ever see them if you can!
Rise Against-Elective Amnesia is just so fricking amazing
Gotta recommend "People Live Here". Wholly different vibe, really evocative vocals, in my opinion.
Totally agree!
Satellite is that one song by them I never change when it comes on 🔥
Glad to see you take a look at one of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite bands.
Keep up the good work @TheCharismaticVoice
#betterhelp
I love the analysis E! Would love to see you dive more into Punk and Ska. The Offspring, Bad Religion, Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish are all great bands that would be fun to dive into!
Rin! You're here too!! 🤣
@@snomeD-83 Dats right! 🤣
Love this song and this band! Also a huge fan of the acoustic version off of their Ghost Note Symphonies album!
Ya I’ve always seen it that way as well.
This song always reminded me of a woman who I loved when I was younger but let go of my life. Two years ago we connected again thanks to this song and living together now!
More of my favourite band! I'm excited for this one
I love Tim's voice! Always have and their music is so nostalgic for me and my college days..
I suggest checking out their song Swing Life Away. Not a destructive video and calmer song. It's one of my favorites.
Please do Give it All Tim's voice is still coming into its own and the song is incredible.
Ok, lets savor Elizabeths Reaction when she savors "Savior" 🙂👍
Saw these guys live at Alexandria palace in London, was surprisingly brilliant
I only recently started listening to Rise Against, but have grown to absolutely love them. So excited to see this deep dive since this song basically lives rent free in my head most of the time.
If you get the chance, see them live. Awesome band 🙂
This is why I love this channel
I've been listening to this song for over a decade, and never noticed some of the sounds that were pointed out
"Time & Tragedy" is an exceptional good song from their more recent album.
I second The Warning! They are incredible. I'm thinking either Error just for the power in the chorus or Revenant just for the story behind the song.
@@bse523 Since all songs by The Warning are short, I vote for two songs from their August 29th 2022 concert at Teatro Metropolitan. Can pick any two as there isn't a bad one.
One of the most wonderful things about these analyses...is the comments section and the musical recommendations contained therein.
It's honestly a shame Tim completely broke his voice because of the early punk days, luckily he's getting back up to it again! Last album and tour he sounded so much better
Pretty much every song on "Siren Song of the Counter Culture". haha.. State of the Union in itself would have killed mine..
Seen them for their Black Market tour some years ago now and I felt like he was struggling to sing it. I actually really respected that though, he had to of known he was struggling, yet he ploughed on anyway. Was still an awesome show.
They were great when I saw them in Dallas earlier this year!
Even though they went more poppy, they still kept their punk edge at the same time.
I keep rise against and bad religion on my phone and always come back two those two in particular.
More Rise Against! Swing Life Away is a polar opposite from Savior, you’ll love it!
This throws me back into moddle school. I love this band. They were a huge part of my teen years!
I'd love to hear your analyses of Hero of War and Make it Stop (September's Children). They're extremely heart wrenching but so well written and so soulful.
"Individuality is all about the various scars that we have." - Elizabeth Zharoff
Do iced earth - A question of heaven. Matt Barlow is one of the greatest signer of all time. His range is great and way too underrated.
This was my number one song of the year on my Spotify wrapped. Glad to see you enjoy it as well. Will never skip this song.
These guys have so many great, meaningful songs.
I'm still listening to drones quite often, though i discovered it much later than the rest 😅
@@TheCharismaticVoiceI'm excited for the Coheed song!
Listen to Welcome Home!
A few years ago, I saw Deftones and Rise Against, in Toronto. Such a sick show.
Hero of war next plz
I really enjoy your break down of some of my favorite songs. Feel like I hear them in a different way, through your expression and explanation throughout. Looking forward to more.
Please check out Volbeat. You'll love Michael Paulsen's voice!
Completely agree with a lot of other commenters, you need to make a video of the song "Hero of War" - just speaking of anguish in Tim's voice and the emotions conveyed through the lyrics
Would love to hear you do a Jane’s Addiction song. Perry Farrell has such an unusual voice. A great band from the late 80s early 90s
Jane says / I'm done with Sergio...
I hadn't really thought about it before, but the way you highlight the production aspect of this song has helped me understand the role of a producer in making music. The musicians perform the song with their instruments and voices, the producer uses the band as an instrument. Definitely adds another element to the way I think about the music I constantly listen to.
Have you done rise against hero of war ?
This band helped me through so much shit back in the day. It makes me emotional to see someone enjoy their work with such enthusiasm and sincerity.
It's funny that you did this song so soon after Everlong. I saw Rise Against open for Foo Fighters in 2011 in Columbus, OH.
I thought the same! I saw them on that tour as well!
Absolutely one of my favourite songs of all-time.
Great reaction!!! "I Don't Wanna Be Here Anymore" is a great listen and watch!!!!!
I love this album. So much killer and completely relatable topics. Re-Education (through labor), and Audience of One are definitely stand outs from this same release.
