The line "if love is a labour I'll slave to the end" summed up my grandmother so much I borrowed it to use in her eulogy and I've included it in my tribute tattoo for her
I think its so sweet to put someone in a tattoo I only have one my grandmother was my favorite person I got her favorite flower tattooed on my thigh when im sad I can look at that and feel better
This song depressed me in the most delightful ways as a lad, and continue to do so today. I remember the first time I heard this song as a young feller', and the lyrics just...struck me. There was something there, something that made me want to take a deeper listen. The moment I got home, I hopped online, looked up the lyrics, and proceeded to listen to it again, and again, and again. I consumed it; consumed every single word, internalized his every point of emphasis and inflection. This song was life altering, and, even to my young mind, provided so much perspective as to what was the important in life. These simple, yet deep sentiments were ingrained in m fifteen year old mind from that moment forward. I'm thirty now, and to this very day, this song resonates me. Especially with the amount of loss in my life, now, more than ever, this song rings its truest to me. I can't thank this band enough for all the years of great music, and all the grueling times they've gotten me through. They'll always be one of my favorite bands. I don't normally go on these long rants in the comments, and if anyone's taken the time to read this, my sincerest apologies, and at the same time, my deepest thanks haha...I've had some rather unfortunate news today, so forgive my reflective, 2 AM rambling in the comments section. Hope the lot of you are having a much better year, and if you're not, just remember: You're not alone, and, eventually, things will get better, so just hang in there. Stay Nerdy, friends.
A dollar short and a day late; I'm saddened and disappointed by your loss. I hope he rests easy. I'll be keeping you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers this holiday season.

I miss my brother, whose favourite song was this. He took his own life 8years ago to another realm, but I feel him everyday. I miss you sweet angel, and I wish we met up for our final tea
Right here with ya, lost my brother in 2014. He was 16. I was 14 at the time. Took his life as well and he loved this song as well, told us he wanted us to play this song at his funeral. They are always there and watching over us ❤️.
As corny as it sounds, this band is honestly keeping me surviving right now, this song and couple others especially. I’m struggling so badly right now mentally, but every time I listen to them my mind feels relief for a bit. ❤️
@@cmrm11 a bit better actually. My boyfriend got me tickets for one of their concerts next month, and it’s giving me something to look forward to, and motivated me to get myself healthy again, so I’m finally feeling more like myself again.
I cannot understate how many times I have heard this song. For the time that I was with my daughter we incorporated this song EVERY night. She would sing it, I would sing it, we would listen to it and sometimes sing along. I’ve hardly seen her in four years and I still can hardly listen to my favorite song without breaking down crying. My wife knows Rise is my favorite band; she has treated me to each concert near us since we’ve been together, the best one was on (day of, not near or weekend of) my birthday in Chicago when they toured for Ghost Notes Symphonies. I just wish I could convey to Tim how much this single song after all these years has had such an impact on my life.
I was 14 in 2004 when this came out. It was the soundtrack to the biggest love and heartbreak i have ever experienced. It's almost 2022 and I'm still playing it weekly.
kevin wall my man I know it is. Lol I never forced it, I listened (softly) behind closed doors by myself. He just happened to hear and liked subjectively.
Such a classic. This song just has this chill bittersweet nostalgic vibe that just screams college to me. I miss it. I miss that time, those people, and that feeling of optimism while simultaneously becoming more world wearied through experience.
Got to dance with my wife to this at the concert the other night, you can’t replace the way we felt. Thanks for the fantastic music and awesome shows!!
Just saw the one In St. Louis two days ago. This song brings me the most beautiful of tears. It had been a few years since I had heard this song as siren song was an album that didn’t survive the move out from a house I lived in and I had Been listening to other music lately But when that. Song came on as the first part of the encore Oh man So many emotions flooded back I hadn’t felt in so long. Thank you Rise Against for being able to evoke such strong feelings.
I was 16 when this came out. Such a time to be alive. This song reminds me of my friend who committed suicide, rise against was his favorite band. Always the memory of of us cruising of from high school with the windows down jamming this whole album will always resonate a better time. Music was something different
This song goes deep into my heart. My friend here in my town, she was murded by her boyfriend, we used to laugh and shared taste in music, she loved this song, it’s been 15 years since she left us everytime i hear this, i miss her with sadness, but also joy cause she was an amazing young girl 21 when the Unforgivable happened.. i miss you Natty, we love you. (Sweden)
Will always be my favorite song. The perfect melancholic sound. Seeing it performed live is an experience like nothing else. I cried like a baby. Beautiful track.
Haven't heard this song in forever, a high school friend posted a photo that said "Swinging life away with you" and it brought me here. Great song, great memories of my senior year in '04. 😁
We used to sing this song at every house party in high school. 15 years later we our all married and this song played at every wedding with us singing along in the middle of everyone.
One my my really great friends would sing this every day befpre school. In the alley way. He ended up commiting suicide by a gun shot to the head. Every time I hear it, it brings back the memory of his voice and his aspirations in the world. He was gay.. And the people around him didn't accept him. Please be cautious with you judge they are someone's friend. I miss him all the time. Rest easy Tim Sinder.. Love you dude!!!!
im sorry to hear, what a horrible world we live in. Rest easy Tim Sinder. I know how it is to loose people to suicide, it never gets easier on the soul. Went from planning a wedding with this as our first dance, to having my life turned on its head, through all of it, as a midwesterner, this song has never failed to truly describe my life.
This is probably one of the only videos on youtube where a guy can show his emotions about "the one" and get supportive comments instead of hate and disrespect. Nicely done.
My boyfriend played this song for me last night. As the song went on I learnt the lyrics and we started singing it together. It grew a connection I didn't know we could have, this song is gorgeous because it feels personal
October, 2024. I first heard this sound from the MGK and Kellin Quinn cover. Today, after so long, this song played during a hard time for me. This song reminded me of so much. And I’m grateful.
I started listening to you guys before I started middle school. Now I'm graduating high school in five days. You've all been a part of my most crucial part of growing up and I wouldn't have chosen many other bands to help me along the way. The messages you spread have impacted my thought process greatly, in only positive ways. I love Rise Against, one of few bands I've been able to consistently listen to throughout my entire life. Don't stop kicking ass.
I'am from Portland,OR This song was played at the memorial of a very special young man named Cody Denney. He was beaten and eventually passed away from his injuries. I never heard of this song.....until I heard on the news that he had passed away. Godspeed for justice for Cody and his family💙
Who's still rockin wit Rise in 2022??? 🙋♀️ Rise Against was my hometown/high-school's FAVORITE band. I graduated in 2005 from Middletown, NJ and my class went to all their shows, jammed out to them at ALL of our parties and this song was collectively our UNOFFICIAL class graduation song. There are so many memories tied to this song that I will never, could never forget and that's exactly why music is so powerful, so profound and even one song by one band can change lives.
I've known this song for a long time now and always liked it but over this weekend something happened that made it have a deeper meaning to me now that ever before... Thank the universe for music that saves our lives...
Everything about this song I love. Between the simple harmonic progressions and the tone of his voice are just so nice. :) This song couldn't have been better written.
My husband wakes up to this and I love how much it explains the adventures we’re having and his selflessness. He is all in for whatever comes. Love that man.
I recently lost a very close friend, possible accidentally overdose suicide. But at his showing they had this song playing. I never really listened to it before. But recently it’s been stuck in my head and it touches me everytime I hear it. 😔❤️
I'm so sorry to hear that. I can unfortunately relate to that very same scenario, coming up on 2 years since he passed in about a week. 😔❤ take care guy
Listening on my pergola pad with my big house and beautiful family with a view of the mountains in 2024. First heard this song lonely, heartbroken and penniless in 2005 on my ex's MySpace profile
The line "if love is a labour I'll slave to the end" summed up my grandmother so much I borrowed it to use in her eulogy and I've included it in my tribute tattoo for her

My wedding dance song. Married 10 years now. Together 20.
"ive got some friends, some that I hardly know, but we've had some times I wouldn't trade for the world"

This line makes me think of all my brothers and sisters in the Army.
That line describes some of my friends past when I grew up on the South side and then again when I lived in the western burbs.
Am I still your charm or just baaad luck....... 😔

I've listened to this for 14-15 years and despite my musical tastes changing dramatically since then, it's still one of my favorite songs
Same i'm 41 year old and mostly stopped listening to the bands I used to love when I was young, but this band good forever
I would die to hear this song for the first time again
Struggle is real
My wife came down the aisle to this song. Its a wonderful thing to have connected to this.
Same except not with my ex this song brings back such bad memories because of them if I go to hell I’d like to see them there
I remember hearing it for the first time during their concert, long time ago. Loved it right away.
Check out MGK and Kellin Quinns cover/remix of this.
That song hits the same in 2023 ... it's a pure MASTERPIECE ❤️🔥
yes this will be one of my lifelong favourite songs ever. it's still as relatable at age 40+ as when I was in my 20's
Timeless!
"Swing Life Away"
Am I loud and clear, or am I breaking up?
Am I still your charm, or am I just bad luck?
Are we getting closer, or are we just getting more lost?
I'll show you mine if you show me yours first
Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse
Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words
We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand
I've been here so long, I think that it's time to move
The winter's so cold, summer's over too soon
Let's pack our bags and settle down where palm trees grow
I've got some friends, some that I hardly know
But we've had some times, I wouldn't trade for the world
We chase these days down with talks of the places that we will go
We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand....until you hold my hand
I'll show you mine if you show me yours first
Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse
Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words
We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,

I graduated in 2005 from Middletown, NJ and my class went to all their shows, jammed out to them at ALL of our parties and this song was collectively our UNOFFICIAL class graduation song. There are so many memories tied to this song that I will never, could never forget and that's exactly why music is so powerful, so profound and even one song by one band can change lives.
I've known this song for a long time now and always liked it but over this weekend something happened that made it have a deeper meaning to me now that ever before... Thank the universe for music that saves our lives...
This is one of the songs my parents would play in the car often when I was little. Probably my favorite song ever.
Like a fine wine this song only get better as time goes by. ❤😍
Everything about this song I love. Between the simple harmonic progressions and the tone of his voice are just so nice. :) This song couldn't have been better written.
Lost a buddy last year and here I am. Wishing you all well.
Ive cried to this song more times then i could ever count.
2022 and this song still kicks 🦋
Heard someone playing this at the airport today. I got hit with so many emotions. I hadn't heard it in over a decade.
My husband wakes up to this and I love how much it explains the adventures we’re having and his selflessness. He is all in for whatever comes. Love that man.
MUSiC iS THE CURE!
GOD iTS SO TRUE!
Rise Against I thank you for pausing the pain :)
This song brings back the best memories
