this song is very touching to be honest. it is about Katrina and the death, destruction and despair it caused. it also talks about the horrible oil spills that devastated the gulf.
Mitch Rice Thank you! The first pre-chorus made me think of Katrina but I wasn’t sure if that was the inspiration behind those lyrics. And “five thousand feet below, / as black smoke engulfs the sky, / the ocean floor explodes, / eleven mothers cry” is obviously referring to a major oil spill. I swear to Christ I played this song in Watchdogs whenever I could, like 99% of the time while driving, freerunning etc. this was playing. The best part is it never got old for me. I finished the game and I'm still listening to this on a regular basis, for motivation, for whatever, I play this. Just a damn masterpiece and it fits so well with Watchdogs, Aiden and what happens in that game, at least for me, so yeah, an awesome piece of music.

If you really think about it enough, this song is about how when people cry out for help, whether it be a natural disaster or anything horrible, no one is really there to help. We scream and scream out for help, but when they finally show, its already too late. This song fits perfectly with Watch Dogs (which I will admit was the first time I heard this song from them), but since the people in the game look to advanced security systems to protect them and their information without having to worry and when something does happen, they go into shock and see that they weren't protected and Aiden Pierce aka The Fox or The Vigilante is the one who has to do the protecting. He knows what it felt like to lose someone near and dear to him and he couldn't rely on the authorities to help, so he turned to his skills to help him and anyone he sees might need help.
If I understood the song correctly, that is powerful. It sounds like a middle eastern country that asked someone more powerful to help them during a civil war, and think they will because of the "black gold", or oil found in their borders. They are constantly reassured that help is on the way, but in fact their cry for help is ignored while the superpowers of the world fight over such small things.
It's a nice personal understanding, but Tim himself said it's about the desolation by Hurricane Katrina and how the govermenment took long to send disaster relief, supplies, all that. Still, I think they dedicated it once to the people affected by the 2011 tsunami/earthquake in Japan, so the meaning more of less can be applied to any disaster and how it feels on a personal scale to be affected by them. That's what I like about RA and it's specially demonstrated in this song. Tim has such a awesome raspy voice that manages to convey perfectly the emotional attachment he has with his great lyrics and what it talks about, so it all feels very sincere, almost like he actually witnessed the things he narrates. It gives the listener - or at least it's what I do - room to "pretend" you are there, which helps you feel compassionate and understanding about the problems Rise Against sing about.
what's with people getting self righteous about how they came across a song? we all had to find it SOMEHOW, right? I found it on the radio 3 years ago. does anyone care? I hope not.
The issue I guess is that this song was about how the bush administration fucked over the victims of Hurricane Katrina and lots of people like the song cause it sounds cool not cause it's got meaning. I was listening to Savior, the only song I knew from this band as of a few days ago, which I heard on the radio. After, I clicked a link to this song because Savior's a great song and I wanted to hear more from this band. (Actually, I clicked on Satellite first, but that's not relevant to this story.) My point, I guess, is that everyone finds a song one way or another. Also, beautiful song. I love the variety of vocals and yet how it all conveys desperation--from melodic singing to outright screaming. :)

This song hits home. I'm from Louisiana. Its about the 2005 Katrina Hurricane and all its destruction. Its great that they put it in a game but a lot of people know it otherwise. FEMA was a joke and some were never rescued because they were overlooked or no one could get to them. God bless Texas and everyone affected. Help is on the way. Atleast from our state. :)
Samantha Arnold it's definitely nice to see someone who understands the meaning behind this song, aside from everyone else who state they enjoy playing a game while listening to this, whilst not even knowing what it means.
I've played the game while listening to this song and I never understood what it really meant, didn't oil fields explode during the hurricane because the song said in it, "5,000 feet below as black smoke engulfs the sky, the ocean floor explodes, 11 mothers cry" and "Choking on the black gold, upon which we rely."
This song is just awesomeness . This being in Watch Dogs is equally awesome , I like picturing myself saving the city with my hacking abilities with this song playing in background XD LOL
Choking on the black gold, Upon which we rely, We keep axes in the attics, To see cameras in the sky. No Shift 2 Unleashed
A video with 109 like and no dislikes? Congrats! ^_^
They said they said wash your hands for 20 seconds, coincidence it happened during elections.
A culture made from black gold, can never really shine. We keep androids in our pockets, still with cameras in the sky. Help is on the way.
BUT IT NEVER CAMEEEEEEE
one of my favorites
Imagine your home is caught in rage of war. And all you can do is believe help will come, help is on the way, that hope all you have. Then its broken
Nothing but driving in downtown Chicago and this song comes on, on the radio.. thanks Watch Dogs
i found this song in watch dogs its fucking awsome
Yeah, especially if it starts when you race to stop a crime!
northernwindfox Until the end when it says "But it never came" lmao
yea thats a fun killer
Kristian Kubar Doesn't help that it's about Hurricane Katrina and the lack of response. Kind of a fun killing song.
WatchDogs had an excellent playlist. Glad I got to first hear this song through that game.
People heard of this through a video game and I heard of it from WWE 😂😂😂
I don't like any other Rise Against songs but for some reason, this one kicks ass!
Savior is a really good song by Rise Against too, you should check it out.
People are dumb. You know, If you stayed out the comment section, you could do shit like enjoy the song. lol.
+Ge Be I come here to enjoy the comedy.
I dunno why, but it reminds me a little bit of Attack On Titan :D
I wouldn't doubt id someone has an Attack on Titan AMV with this song
This song is just awesomeness . This being in Watch Dogs is equally awesome , I like picturing myself saving the city with my hacking abilities with this song playing in background XD LOL
NFS SHIFT 2 SQUAD?
Choking on the black gold,
Upon which we rely,
We keep axes in the attics,
To see cameras in the sky.
Help is on the way
(They said, they said)
Help is on the way
(They said, they said)
We were told just to sit tight,
'Cause somebody will soon arrive.
Help is on the way.
But it never came!
It never came!
Help is on the way
(They said, they said)
Help is on the way
(They said, they said)
One by land, two by sea.
Right there in front of me.
Help is on the way.
On the way.
Watch dogs brought me here...i dont care if haters are here
same
zYEah, I don't care either, watch dogs is a great game.
