The APC was probably just a placeholder and the actual vehicle was going to be an armored car, hence the heist. Armored car robberies are a pretty common heist trope, especially if you consider movies like HEAT (great film BTW) that opens with one and probably was the inspiration considering a bomb was used in the film to open the vehicle doors and incapacitate the crew inside.
HEAT is awful lol. Such a dumb movie that is only carried by the cast of actors.

I've played hl2 many times and not once have I seen this APC.
@@popcan01a Actually now that i recall it it was left unused in the files and it was only used in the HL2 beta.
The gamemode being called Heist and a moving APC just reminds me of Soldier Front 2(Special Force 2 for SEA people) and it's Gold Rush gamemode.

When you realize the 'Heist' game mode is just T's trying to parallel park an APC without crashing into anything.
This is just VIP mode from 1.6. If you don't remember, CT has 1 player who's VIP, he's only allowed to hold pistols, and is not allowed to buy anything else. CT's objective, is to deliver VIP player to the specified zone. Terrorists, who usually spawn on that specified zone, have to either kill the enemy team, or stop the VIP from reaching the zone in the specific time. This is literally the same but instead of the person, you've got armored car. I think 1.6 had this idea more polished out. Judging from the timing, this was probably the initial idea for the payload in Team Fortress 2. In my opinion, valve should try bringing this mode back straight to the competitive. Playing around a player who's not allowed to defend himself but has to be protected is a great idea, and much can be built upon it.
I think its could be both. I saw some maps in 1.6 that using driveable vehicles for VIP protection and T should stop it, while CT defending.
I'm not sure whether de_prodigy was available on release, but the apc model is also present in half life 2, which came out a few weeks after css

Great video and I agree too, the game mode is not fit for CSS, BUT, for historical purposes, It's a pity that the comunity is not working on fixing this game mode. And to play it too.
Also, for what I saw in other analysis, the bomb function was sopossed to be moving along side the APC and the terrorists plants the bomb on it (as explained in the wiki) but that function is not finished or even implemented.

This mode reminds me the "escort mode" in Alliance of Valiant Arms (AVA), from Ijji or Nexon.

I actually had an idea for a game mode similar to this, just with the teams swapped. T's commandeer/steal an APC to wreak havoc, and CT's must either eliminate all T players or prevent the APC from reaching the end until time runs out in order to make the hijacker surrender so CT's win. T's obviously win by reaching the end or by killing all CT's.
Possibly add the ability for a T player to get into the APC to use a mounted weapon against the CT's, but otherwise has limited ammo and health.

Yeah, early this year there were Valve leak files and some of them were cut maps from CS Source. I still trying to figure out to get those files as they aren't available to download anywhere.
Basically an “Escort” game mode for UT & Quake terms. Playload is usually known for TF2. :)
This reminds me of func_vehicle, a deprecated (for Counter-Strike, because Half-Life did have drivable vehicles) engine support for drivable vehicles.

Oh shjt, this game mode was already a thing for Counter Strike Online by Nexon, it call Battle Rush, where CT planting bomb and terrorist disarm bomb, both team has a boss NPC with grenade launcher, the terrorist leader was capture by CT and all the terrorist must disarm his hand cup before time run out or before the CT escort him to their HQ.
CT must plant bomb to destroy barricade made by terrorist.

There was a game mode called "rush battle" in cso/csnz if the game is still alive you can check this mode in there
Maybe the idea would be better if, first of, the vehicle would be changed to something other than APC, something more open, so that CTs can enter inside and use the turret (APC would only move if someone is inside) but can get easily killed since vehicle wouldn't provide enough cover. Then instead of Ts planting bomb on the vehicle it would just have standard HP system or something. This gamemode could even use some custom stuff like classes such as AT to destroy the vehicle more easily, engineer to repair it (vehicle wouldn't be able to move or shoot when he's doing that) or maybe some powerups or small side missions to help your team. For example a repair kit spawned somewhere on the map and CTs can get it in order to repair their vehicle or mines spawned somewhere and Ts can plant them or whatever. Just some thoughts.

The teams are swapped because in normal competitive the CTs couldn’t defend Cobble hence they need support by the APC to take it back. At least that would be my guess. And one would have some lore.

I feel like the intention here was that the Terrorists are supposed to be the ones in control of the APC, and the CTs are supposed to be the ones stopping them, but I suppose whoever set the map up got the two swapped around. That way the "Heist" name would make sense; the Terrorists are attacking a police compound in such a scenario, and that would be why the _Terrorists_ win when the vehicle reaches the end of the track, and not the CTs, despite them being the ones 'escorting' it.
The gamemode definitely could have been interesting if it was finalized, and if it worked in the one map they made for it...
