Omg I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s played counterstrike with their teacher lmao He’d be like “guys I can’t make raunchy jokes I’ll get fired” even tho it was in our free time, I get it tho
My favourite map on 1.6 was de_westwood, had a great time playing that map back in the day, it was really popular on Romanian servers 10-13 years ago, oh and there was that map where it was a huge Kitchen and characters we're little like mouses, really fun to play.
Oil Rig was pretty popular at the internet-cafe, I was a frequent visitor of, in 2000-2001. The map is sure unbalanced but it's a huge fun to play in 15vs15 mode, especially when people know what to do. The whole place would blow up with screams, laughing and curses whenever CT-team was trying to make the last push for the evacuation point by shielding the VIP with their own bodies.
I knew it, that's why it looked familiar and the dramatic death animation looked familiar as well. I was a frequent visitor of internet cafes as well during my 7-9 years old days. I remember airconditioned internet cafes smelled like cigarettes. Weird but nostalgic lol.
I think I'm one of the few people that actually enjoyed playing the VIP in Oil Rig. I was pretty good at it, and it was extremely fun when you actually managed to escape
Dude this is awesome! As someone who was literally either not alive or too young to play these, I love that people like you are willing to share the knowledge of these places. Maybe next you could do a video on Valve maps that were made specifically for CS:GO like Overpass and Ancient, just to see all the changes they’ve had to go through :)
In Asian countries, most of us grew up with another version of CS - the Counter Strike Online (CSO) which was brought by a gaming company in South Korea called Nexon. It is essentially CS1.6 with lots of different playmodes (Zombies, deathmatch, Zombie Scenario... you name it.). The game just celebrated its 15th anniversary this year, most of the maps you mentioned in the video were still being played in CSO and I think all of them were wonderful maps (well, except for 747, that map is a huge pain in the ass like you mentioned.). I still remembered loggin on the CSO and playing deathmatch with my friends after school back in 2000s. Such a pleasant memory....
The map I miss the most is de_vegas. Vegas was a rather unique map, especially because of the ghost legend. It was so damn cool to finally figure out how to spawn the gman ghost with my friends. 747 is also a map I love, it is so atmospheric and exploring a huge plane is fun, it's a shame these technical issues messed it up.
The 1.5/1.6 days had some amazing maps that I'd love to see again. I've played so many that I'll probably never find again, and that's kind of a bummer. Original CS had thousands of maps kids. Many probably lost to history.
I miss Delta, Militia, Assault, Siege, Original Dust, Estate and Aztec. I don't understand why would they remove these iconic maps that everyone enjoyed since 1999-2000. Also Jeepathon. That was freakin fun.
I remember a lot of these maps. Oil rig was always my favorite map because the game type was fun. If you got a good CS team, everyone would move together as a unit - the true purpose of counter strike. Some honorable mentions I think should be survivor, and some super popular fan made maps like poolday, iceworld, scoutzknivez, awp_map. Oh many so many years of playing awp map
I didn't play a lot of the cz maps, but I remember the last two source maps very well, port and compound. Neither of those maps were very good. I do really miss de_dust and de_aztec in csgo. Sure, they were a bit unbalanced, but overall they were still a lot of fun.
First map I played was cs_desert 1.0 beta, I remember fondly only having left handed models and flashes did damage, I miss cs_siege and rushing with the apc
Great video. I remember Estate, it was a really fun and popular map because it was so straight to the point. I also remember cs_militia, also a fun map. I loved the hostages map because it was a thrilling sitting there waiting for the CT's to come, or being a CT and infiltrate. Not good maps for competitive gaming but fun LAN maps.
I ported compound to HL2 dm a while back and it worked really well in that game. Port was one of my favorite maps ever for some reason, mainly because of the visuals on it are great
First time watching your content and your rundown of all those maps was well done 'cause those maps may not be good but they were fun to play in local games
I have played on all of the maps except oil rig, compound and port , I rarely comment on a video but here I am. thank you Kotek for this amazing nostalgic trip,
Awesome video, glad you could bring some attention to these old maps, my buddy and I were probably the only people who played Miami on the Xbox version. Some guy made a pretty good remake in CS:GO on the workshop and we load it up every now and then for a throwback. Little disappointed you didn't mention de_foption, only official map with 3 bomb sites, it was pretty wild. ❤❤❤
Final Option was a cool idea, but seeing as it isn't available in 1.6 and hasn't been officially part of the game since 1.0 I didn't want to include it. I might do a video about all those older maps that were removed prior to 1.6 sometime in the future.
My favorite maps were fy_jeep2k, cs_italy, cs_militia, cs_siege, de_piranesi, de_museum and fy_poolday. I'm surprised I haven't even heard of a lot of the maps you mentioned since I played even back in Beta. I remember when you could download your own player model and weapon skins for free.
Back in 1.5, we used to practically live on Dust. I knew it better than my own apartment. Not saying it was a balanced map, far from it, but part of the problem with Dust in CS_GO is that the improved throwables make a B1 rush nearly impossible. At least that's how I experienced it. Also in casual, with 10 v 10, the map is a waste of time. Way too easy for the CTs. Mansion was another one we played to death right when I started playing. Probably pre-1.5, I cant remember.
I didn't include it in the video as it was in all Counter-Strike titles before Global Offensive. Honestly a real shame they didn't port it over for casual mode at the very least.
I remember playing compund back in when I was 10 or 11 (11-12 years go) and a lot of people were actually using smgs and ARs but ofc there were people with a scout or awp on the bridge or in the buildings. I was running around with a glock though, it was so much fun.
This is a great video but there are soooo many other official maps that can be covered. first of all, oilrig wasnt the only official as_ map there was tundra also! and some of the oldies that we all loved playing, de_prodigy, de_vegas, de_docks, de_rotterdam, cs_backalley, cs_docks, cs_havana (a cz/xbox map you didnt mention) and cs_siege and cs_thunder which technically came back as fan made maps but didn't get official valve remakes/ports. theres a handful of other early beta/cs1.0-1.5 maps but those ones were some of my personal favorites :)
Wow... I believe Estate was 1st map that me and my buddies played on and I remeber times when OilRig was 32/32 :D Good old times, so many of those maps were smasher!
i don't exactly recall which iteration of CS i played first (i just remember the guns had like no recoil so mp5 was the go-to), but i have such fond memories of so many maps that ultimately never even got out of the beta releases. while the VIP maps were generally quite bad, i still have a soft spot for as_highrise. in fact, all the "popdog" maps were excellent. i also really loved de_vegas, mostly because it just actually really does feel like a run down casino and there was something really endearing about that pseudo-realistic aesthetic that people would often go for with HL mods.
The _cz suffix is mainly there to let people know that the map was made for Condition Zero, that's why if you boot the game you'll not only see all of the CZ original maps with the CZ suffix, but also maps like cs_office_cz or de_dust2_cz. Not gonna lie, a Dust 2 Deleted Scenes mission would have been cool though. Thank you so much for watching :)
Nice video man, there were some cs 1.5 maps with vehicles that you can drive. The maps were so good , mostly jeep wylis, but there were some with sports car that were extremely fast. Unfortunately I don't remember the names
Miami on the xbox was the most popular map far more than Dust II far more than Office it was an incredible time to be alive. I still play counter strike to this day and nothing has come close by a long shot compared to playing Miami on the xbox.
TH-cam recommended this video to me. Considering the quality of the video, I thought the channel behind it would have at least a few thousand subs. I was surprised to only see 323. Consider me Subscriber 324.
I remember before getting my new computer, i played so much de_westwood in family's old ass computer. Really cool map and quite a few path choices for a map that "linear", i also played a bit on some versions of westwood 2 and 3 iirc but the 24/7 server was on the og westwood
I remember regulary playing 1.6 on some French Server which was able to host 32 players (16 vs 16) and was only running custom maps. There were many great maps like Museum, Star gate, etc (dont remember all the names). I had a great time back then
There was a ton of estate/mansion versions back in the day. Remember seeing maps with names like cs_mansion9 etc. playing cs back in early 2000s most popular ones where I lived were dust/dust 2 Aztec militia assault and italy. Then there was second tier like office siege train prodigy nuke cbble rats dacha arabstreets or tundra/oilrig played not so often but still popular. And sometimes people went for unconventional maps like jeepathon 35hp or awp or obscure maps that were for some reason included in updates. My favorite of those was cs_yemen, spent a lot of time playing it. Couldn’t even find more than a couple of screenshots online.
I forgot about most of these. It seems you forgot many more that aren't a part of this list. Here's a few that come to mind: de_cbble de_piranesi de_thunder de_aztec de_preditor I'm sure those were all official maps, and I know there are many more. I will have to explore some old hard drives to confirm. Also there was another VIP map called tundra.
Bro ty for bringing some of best memories of my childhood. I played so much cs 1.6 and i played a lot of this maps (first 5) and de_dust 2x2 and other.
It's always a little sad to see a map die. Especially given the love that must go into some of them. There are a few operation maps on CS:GO that my fiends and I fell in love with that will likely never been seen again.
I had a lot of fun playing some of the old hostage maps in Operation Payback like Motel and Downtown back in the day and I always hope that we can get some more of the older hostage maps back but deep down I know I will never experience that ever again.
0:16 I played little of Counter Strike Global Offensive (No offensive 9/10 game) and most of my time playing was in 3 maps (Dust 2,Italy and Office) and in the 2 Hostage maps mine favorite pass time was buy the Tacticool Shield and use as a Shield for my teammates this way they shot while I protect them It was fun
This is cool atmosphere, just like original Aztec. Aztec if they do it on CS2 should be just like this weather. We have Ancient which shows off sunny ruins
Militia, Vegas, 747 (I understand why it was removed), Mansion/Estate were some that I miss playing. I also didn't mind the Assassinate/VIP mode. It was fun if you had coordinated friends.
I still play CZ a lot with my homemade bots for training and I will never forget any of these maps at all. Mostly because when I was younger I played only against bots in CZ for like 4 years xxD
I can't remember if de_dust2002 was official, but I remember enjoying a lot on that map, for some reason, only after 12AM haha. Has anyone played (though its unofficial) cs_mice_final map? I enjoyed that one too.
Do you remember "siege"? You could Drive a Tank (BMP) over a Bridge in a Underground shelter or Something. I think it was in ca 1.0 maybe earlyer in the beta. I liked it very mutch.
What about Vegas, loved that map. Also the one that had an APC to drive on it. Finally when I first played there was a game mode when the terrorists had to pick up their guns after breaking out of jail - ah the good old days 😊
Vegas is in episode 2, more maps will probably be in future episodes as well. I can probably make an entire video about maps with func_vehicle to be honest.
Port and Compound seem more like maps meant for HL2 than CS. Seems like someone at Valve, or Turtle Rock, was fiddling around experimenting with the default assets. Port is a fun idea, but an awful experience. Oh, and the bomb can just be tossed off the edge. Best Part.
Hi man, great video! Thanks for reminding me my childhood cs maps :D by the way, do you have any polish roots? Kotek means kitty in Polish and looking at your avatar, this cant be a coincidence! Cheers mate!
I found a bug in Estate where you could hide in the hedge. You lost your sound but you could see through it and kill the Ts in the windows :) Remember my first time I tried it online, people shrouted: "CHEATER, CHEATER".
as a kid who grew up playing 1.6 at lan cafe's the maps that bring me back are de_snow , the original cs_italy with the music blasting over the entire map Militia because it had a poo in the toilet that if you shoot, it explodes
Yeah considering a lot of players only know the maps that were played on their servers and never really checked the files in the game, it doesn't surprise me people didn't notice.
I will say the cs 1.6 successor is actually Rainbow Six Siege the maps are not the same but I believe Rainbow Six developers got their map design inspiration from cs 1.6, For example, Cs 747 plane map and Rainbow Six Presidential plane map.
I miss Aztec. That map has so many amazing memories on it
so much ! Aztec has just been broke by pro-players at a time. maybe it could comeback now
@@AurelShenI don't think so :(

My best record is on Aztec. Good memories.
I recall playing 747 against my PE teacher back in primary school, naturally he soloed the three of us easily... good times
What a goddamn Legend!
I volunteer with a church youth group and started playing as a way to keep in touch with the kids during COVID lockdown.
Uff that map had a creepy vibe, I miss this creepiness in Counter Strike maps, oilrig is also creepy.
What! I have the exact same memory. Are you Turkish?
Omg I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s played counterstrike with their teacher lmao
He’d be like “guys I can’t make raunchy jokes I’ll get fired” even tho it was in our free time, I get it tho
Storm, Havana, Piranesi, Backalley, Prodigy, Militia, Siege, Torn....so many memories
Wow, nostalgic. Storm was awesome. Backalley as well.
Another fun one that I miss was cs_thunder. There was a surprisingly good port on csgo, but no one plays it.
de_prodigy ❤
One map i clearly recall from beta but forgot the name. It had a huge parking alley where most of the combat usually took place
We used to have tea parties in militia
Assault will remain as my favourite CS map. Sure its terrible for competitive but it has a nostalgia about it
Playing dust, assault and italy in the ciber.... Good old times.
I always had those two. Assault and Militia as my all time favorites. Now both are gone. FFS
I remember being able to boost up through the roof and wallbanging while viewing the cameras..damn I feel old
as_oilrig is the best map in CS
th-cam.com/video/ZmGteo3YGSA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6DJnqjlbnBP6Z2yO
CS_Assault? CS_Militia? Those are the maps we played for days on end, even if the maps were "unbalanced" we were having too much fun to care.
Possibly included in a follow up coming soon
But there already in CSGO well known, not in cs2 but tons of maps that were in CSGO are not in cs2 and will probably come later on
@@KotekCS I really hope so. Assault and Militia should live on.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the trip down memory lane! It's a shame we can't go back in time to experience the old days.
A sufficiently obscure CS map is indistinguishable from a Siege map.
0:16 I played little of Counter Strike Global Offensive (No offensive 9/10 game) and most of my time playing was in 3 maps (Dust 2,Italy and Office) and in the 2 Hostage maps mine favorite pass time was buy the Tacticool Shield and use as a Shield for my teammates this way they shot while I protect them
It was fun
I recall one of the fun map. De_ratz or something, where all become miniature and shoot inside fridge and kitchen.
I do love me some ratz maps.
This is cool atmosphere, just like original Aztec. Aztec if they do it on CS2 should be just like this weather. We have Ancient which shows off sunny ruins
Sweet memories revisited 😢. Played all maps shown in the video atleast once.
Late night gaming sessions have always been when the best memories are made.
Do you remember "siege"? You could Drive a Tank (BMP) over a Bridge in a Underground shelter or Something. I think it was in ca 1.0 maybe earlyer in the beta. I liked it very mutch.
747 and survivor are great but aztec and dust are my 2 favorites from when I was a kid
I can probably make an entire video about maps with func_vehicle to be honest.
original cs_siege had that buggy APC that we all loved
Port and Compound seem more like maps meant for HL2 than CS. Seems like someone at Valve, or Turtle Rock, was fiddling around experimenting with the default assets. Port is a fun idea, but an awful experience. Oh, and the bomb can just be tossed off the edge. Best Part.
Who needs to plant anyway
Condition Zero, the forgotten counter strike 😅😅
I love it, still playing to this day
Honestly i have so many fun memories playing those 2 CSS maps and i personally like them
Is it crazy that I've played all of these maps at least 20 times each?
Hi man, great video! Thanks for reminding me my childhood cs maps :D by the way, do you have any polish roots? Kotek means kitty in Polish and looking at your avatar, this cant be a coincidence! Cheers mate!
I'm glad you liked the video. I'm actually half Polish which is why it doesn't seem like a coincidence 🤠
I found a bug in Estate where you could hide in the hedge. You lost your sound but you could see through it and kill the Ts in the windows :) Remember my first time I tried it online, people shrouted: "CHEATER, CHEATER".
after you said cs_747 and showed gameplay i flashbacked to all the lanpartys we had. Good time.
747 most likely refers to December 25th 1994 GIGN hostage rescue in a Air France plane
Crazy seeing your name show up in my homepage when I knew you years ago through chase
Hey man, it's a small, small world.
Like 3 of these maps launched with Rainbow 6 Siege, too, which is kinda funny. Estate is Bartlett, 747 is Plane and Miami is Bank.
If you're gonna copy something you better copy the best.
Another great video
Glad you enjoyed it, Akshat!
as a kid who grew up playing 1.6 at lan cafe's the maps that bring me back are de_snow , the original cs_italy with the music blasting over the entire map Militia because it had a poo in the toilet that if you shoot, it explodes
I think Penguin was inspired by your video lol. Nice job though, good vid.
Też brakuje mi starych map. Czasem jeszcze popykam w cs:czero :) Stare dobre czasy ;)
great production quality, keep it up!
Thank you, I will do my best.
Interesting. I never knew these maps were removed. Miss playing these old maps.
Yeah considering a lot of players only know the maps that were played on their servers and never really checked the files in the game, it doesn't surprise me people didn't notice.
I loved Oilrig, Highrise, Tundra, vegas, siege and 747.
If I remember correctly, there was a map called arabian streets and it was really cool! 🙂
For all the dudes here in their late 20's -mid 30s.
We probs played 1.5/1.6 together at Net Cafes's and we yelled at each other across the room xD
Dust was such a non serious map. I never could get a lobby of people trying to take it seriously
it was a go to map for beginners. Most serious map i have ever seen in cs was mirage
I will say the cs 1.6 successor is actually Rainbow Six Siege the maps are not the same but I believe Rainbow Six developers got their map design inspiration from cs 1.6, For example, Cs 747 plane map and Rainbow Six Presidential plane map.
I loved that Siege plane map. So satisfying to play when you had good team mates.
aztec, backalley, survivor, and 747 are the maps i miss the most. such amazing maps
The 1.6 silent m4 is just on another level
The modern M4A1-S just can't compete with the old silenced M4.
The only thing that made me mad in this video is the fact that it has 3k views instead of deserved 300k
Honestly I feel extremely blessed to have the 3k views so far. Thank you so much for watching :)
