Why does everyone forget that those LEDs still require an onboard chip to drive and control the LEDs patterns? Its going to be hotter because that's how thermal dynamics work.

The most of modern devices from Apple are trash in terms of engineering idea and overall components base as well as assembly quality.
You buy 1000$ - 2000$ hardware and it works only 1-2 year. Apple died as company after Steve died. Because there is no idea left behind their actions. Only money alone and more money again.

As long as they keep improving, I'm happy to skip this 16" and wait until there's something I need in a new one. My 120gb 2014 13" will just have to wait until they give me something I care about. The 2015 still seems like way better value than this one.

EDIT: People are misinterpreting the joke. I personally have no problem with really thin devices, I’m just pointing out that it’s funny how technology has advanced so much that some people can now reasonably argue that they’re too thin, when only 15 years ago just about everyone had CRT displays in their houses.

I use a 15" macbook and I've found a good way of getting around the thermal throttling issues. If you install Macs Fan Control you can setup your own curves. I haven't setup any curves yet, but when I'm video editing I pin the fans at 90% so I can keep the performance at max.
You just need to do that on bootcamp right?

I'm upgrading from my 2013 13" pro, to an almost fully upgraded 16", you could say I'm looking forward to it. almost every spec is multiplied 2-8 times the capacity.

Apple has depreciated OpenGL and OpenCL on macOS and they control the drivers. In other words - the is no open-standard-cross-platform graphics and compute API, that is supported on macOS any more. Cycles thus is unavailable on macOS for GPU rendering. See blenderartists.org/t/cycles-opencl-rendering-on-macos-is-no-longer-supported/1138381 and blenderartists.org/t/macos-is-deprecating-opengl/1113803. If you are using macOS for serious graphics work (be it "using graphics related apps" or one that involves graphics programming), then stop it. :) Switch to MSW for apps (and programming) and set up WSL for POSIX shell.

Apple is literally playing 12D chess. If they've had completely normal functional laptops all along, it would've been just another average laptop. But by sacrificing a few years to lower their reputation, even the tiniest improvements will make people go nuts. Just look at this: smaller bezel, ESC key and suddenly "WOW APPLE LISTENS TO US WE RECOMMEND THIS MACBOOK LET'S BUY IT". It's ridiculous how little does the sheep herd requires to keep them in line. Macbook is still lightyears behind other laptops, it's still a pile of steaming horseshit, they will still ask $2000 for a 30 seconds bent pin repair, but no one cares, because "HOLY SHIT ESC KEY".
@barcitaa Do you know why it was free? Because it was a manufacturer's defect and they were asking hundreds, if not thousands for repairs. It took the community quite a lot of work to finally make Apple make a move and offer free repairs for it. They're only offering it because the public turned against them and they couldn't not offer it. If it was up to them, they would've charged you hundreds EVEN WITH WARRANTY because they originally kept telling people that the problem is caused by improper use which is not covered by warranty. So maybe before you praise Apple, look into the details of things. You should thank the people, not Apple. And I want to throw the ball back to you: which other company would ask a thousand bucks for a manufacturer's defect while the warranty is still active, blaming the user? Which other company would ask the price of a new machine for the repair of a bent pin that Louis Rossmann has fixed on camera in 30 seconds by bending it back? Which other company would put placebo cooling fans into their laptops that has no contact whatsoever with the headsink and then when the computer gets a heat stroke it once again blames the user? Neither of them. Not a single one of them. Not HP, not Lenovo, not Dell, not Samsung, not anybody. Only Apple.

Am I the only one who actually likes the butterfly mechanism, typing-wise? I understand that it there are reliability concerns, but I do like typing on them compared to my older laptops and I haven't had any reliability issues with my keyboard so far.
VanMan 23 I’m with you on that. I love the feel of Butterfly, it really is better than both the 2015 models and the 16” models. My machine hasn’t had any issue yet either. I only criticize Butterfly because, let’s face it, it IS breaking for a lot of people.
Of course they don’t call the new cooler system “ProCooler”, they call it “iCooler Pro”.

But tbh its not that great of a system. ROG Zephyrus have the best cooling system ive seen on a laptop. Its really thin and powerful, much more powerful than any mac laptop and keeps great temperatures. Doubt apple would come up with anything like that

@@aliefr2984 1st of all, ur english needs huge improvement, 2nd of all i wasnt talking about displays but about cooling which is keeping system cool while handling max load and displays color accuracy dont add anything to said load. Gaming laptops are the only ones with high refresh rate displays, ROG zephyrus have 144hz IPS display with 3ms response time and pretty good colors. Mac's also use IPS btw and while they are a bit more color accurate and have higher resolution they only have standard 60hz displays but then again i wasnt talking about damn displays, which make no difference in cooling. Gaming laptops are much more powerful and usually handling much more load for extended periods of time than something like Macbook pro, yet ROG zephyrus with its inovative cooling keep laptop relatevely cool, while Mackbooks heat to 90+ celsius which is way too much. And idk where do u get that there are almost no windows laptops with 2k or higher resolution, there PLENTY of windows laptops with 2k resolution, theres even some gaming laptops with 2k res. Pls dont respond if ure going to talk about displays again
@@erikasl.7050 Maybe you should learn 3 languages first before dissing someone else english. Most macbook PRO user are professional that need color accuracy like sRGB 100% AdobeRGB or DCI PE 99%. Macbook pro also have 10bit color while most gaming laptop use 6bit + frc which equate to fake 8 bits color. If you need power, built a pc instead buying gaming laptop that will break in 3 years. And you should learn the meaning of ' Almost NO'. Razer Blade and gigabyte aero is minority and they already stop shipped with 2k display

Uncool move by Apple to not announce the 16“ at their keynote in September. I bought the old model right afterwards, assuming there wouldn’t be an upgrade coming this year. I have a feeling they do it on purpose to boost sales shortly before the new version is introduced.

Apple has fixed a lot of major problems that plagued OSX over the years to the point where I would actually call it stable now. Eg the xps 15 is close in weight, size, performance and display quality, but as of the early 2019 model still had DPC latency issues that make it a poor choice for music production, and the latitude equivalent wouldn't be any better in that regard
The Thinkpad X1 extreme or workstation equivalent has poor battery life with the 4K model (and there's no 1440p, only all the way down to 1080p)
The Blade 15 is pretty good, but you're trading battery life in exchange for power so it's not apples to apples
Then you've got various gaming laptops say from MSI, but you'll typically again be trading battery life or weight for the extra power
I’ve used both an xps (with linux) and MacBooks. There are no machines that can compete with the reliability of a MacBook. It took me 4 months before the XPS was in the closet, gathering dust

What sucks about Razer's laptops is that they're just not reliable. Specs are cool, designs are cool but they're not gonna last and their support is trash and makes you jump through hoops until you threaten to sue them in a letter. Also Synapse 3 is literally the worst software I've had to use in my life and it's been in beta for 3 years even though it looks like they just started working on it last month.
Razer is just really not doing well with their stuff and I just hope it reflects on their sales so it forces them to get their shit together.

I just got a loaded 16" pro, one program that has done me wonders in the past when I was editing 6gb TIFF files on a MacBook air was "macs fan control" which let me manually crank up the fans and keep things at an acceptable temperature. It helps a lot and thanks to the decent engineering the fans can easily handle the extra load.

Bought one brand new in March of 2020 and it’s my fav laptop ever..sounds amazing and I never had a problem..do all my music production on it and I love it.it’s built like a tank and comfortable,I’m happy with intel and how powerful this MacBook is..I didn’t wanna wait till the M1 came out and I like the 16inch..I’m not malign a marvel movie lol,I don’t need that extra 5 seconds of power or whatver lol..trust me if your able to get one of these and if it’s in mint cond pick it up .. nice screen,fast computer and 2 graphic cards available inside.i don’t game on my max I use it for work and music..the keyboard is great and Touch Bar is neat..
