as some who's been console 4 lyfe till now at the age of 24 finally getting into pc gaming, this was a VERY helpful review. you walked the line perfectly between entry level and more informed jargon/terminology and made this easier to understand- and when i didn't, you had graphics to help me visualize the importance and relavance of what you were talking about. i also loved your light hearted jokes and realistic comments/consideration about the looks and feel of the laptop as an item to be used regularly and hopefully for a long time, not just as a piece of technology to get the job done for this year. i've never felt this.... positive after a tech review video, and its weird. thanks dude!

Oh and btw everyone there is two screen models for the legion 5 a 120hz panel shown in the video and also a 144hz panel that is brighter and more color accurate. Critique:Be more informative on all the models thought you may not have them all but you were very informative and provided solutions for higher FPS and made ppl aware of srgb so yea keep it up.

The strange hinge setup on the Legion 5 does allow the screen to open 180 degrees (if that matters to many users).

a couple things: The only cheaper laptop I can find with a Ryzen processor is the Nitro 5: amzn.to/3lfmE6q, which you can also find refurbished for around $600!!!. But that only comes with a 60hz panel. Also the battery life on the Legion gets around 5 hours, 200+ likes and I'll create a tutorial video on battery optimization for Ryzen laptops!
Update: a new Legion model hit the market for as low as $1000 with the Ryzen 7 4800H + 1660 ti. Similar to the Omen. The thermals are a bit hotter due to the GPU + CPU combo dissipating more heat. If you can wait for it to go on sale it would be well worth the extra cost: amzn.to/3b4gAJi (affiliate links)
I have the Asus Tuf A15 with similar specs (but a 60 Hz panel) - it’s more affordable than the Lenovo Legion 5, so why I didn’t choose the latter and invest in peripherals and a monitor because the budget laptops have crappy screens

@@bigman2469 If you are referring to the Nitro 5 linked above, then this better because it has the higher refresh rate panel. Intel computers usually average a few frames better when comparing the same GPU

This $800 version is definatly over priced. Get the $900 version with the ryzen7. The $800 version should be $600 with only 8gig ram and 4gigs vram.

You can get it with the 1650 (no Ti) for around 700 which is almost 100 cheaper, and the performance difference is like literally 2-3%.

Thermals did not exceed 83 degrees when rendering on Cinebench R20, gaming was even better, with 1600x900 on COD, I got 75c on the CPU 62c on the GPU!!!

I think the build quality of laptop is amazing compared to slim type which compromises the cooling system. I guess it's personal preference.. nice review btw.

I have a question please help me figure it out! I live in India and currently lenovo legion 5 is not yet release here (though the legion 5i, 7i and 5pi are). So I was thinking of purchasing it through amazon US and the get it delivered here. But there is a rumor going around that amazon is cheating with it's customers and giving them fake products. So my concern is that, can I trust amazon for thisglobal transection and shipment? Also will I get any return or replacement policy internationally in case I get a defective peice and will it's warranty be valid here? Please, help me with these questions I've!🙂

This is a great laptop. I can get 120 fps from the i7 version for warzone WHILE streaming on OBS live in 1080p. I feel the AMD version of this skipped out a lil on performance but I can edit 4k on this rig with great performance (YOU MUST have 16GB RAM minimum) and if you are using this to game a cooling pad is recommended especially for extended gaming hours. All in all I would say this is more of a mid tier laptop in terms of the performance I personally am getting but I do have that i7 chip instead of the AMD. all in all I paid 950 for this laptop and had to add 335 ram stick but its great. Really happy with it. Lenovo delivers!

@@BluueDream06 not at all. I do have it with a cooking pad and the cooling pad is much louder but I use headphones to game so any noise is a non issue for me.

You said 4 gigs of 2 sticks so is it upgradable upto 8 gigs of 2 sticks? Also along with HDD, can we just remove the default SSD with more storage space one like 1TB HDD + 1TB SSD?
seems like everyone is criticizing the screen for not being suitable for video editing, but think the majority of the editors will prefer a bigger / more professional external monitor anyway

@@ivinjoshi411 i disagree on that. Lenovo has 2 heatingpipes, 1 shared and 1 per fan. Hp has the same Plus 1 extra heatingpipe , so 1 fan has 3 and the other 2, where lenovo on both fans 2. You can check that out for your self, disassembly. Or check laptopmedia on youtube

Prices are going up rapidly, as far as the hp concerns, due to higher selling/buying rate. So check out the prices carefully, perhaps legion 5 is still cheaper now

Hello BronzTech! Question about SRGB...
I recently bought the Y540 (last year model) but now the 5 is on sale. I can still return my Y540.
BUT according to NotebookCheck my Y540 has 98% SRGB, which is a lot more than 56% in the 5! I do not edit video or photos or anything like that. I'm doing a lot of streaming though. Do you think I should care about the SRBG difference? The 5 series has several physical improvements that really makes me want to switch.

I wouldn't worry about it if you don't really edit photos/videos, although if you care about brightness then if you check out the 4800h/1660ti (link in the description) that one has around 99% sRGB + 300 nits. I'd recommend that if you have the $900-1000 US budget

Personally, I want F1-F12 keys to have their original function. (I wanna use the FN-button with them to adjust brightness etc. And not when I want to refresh, full screen etc.

Do you, by any chance, know if that "FN lock" key remembers your choice permanently? Like do you have to activate it after every reboot to set the F1-F12 keys to their good old function? Also, you got yourself another subscriber!
I’m not sure tbh :/ I got a review unit, but try and checking the bios or lenovo’s control center software to see if you can change those function keys

If buy the 144hz version it has almost 100% sRGB coverage, and it's brighter - 300 nits vs 250 nits in 120hz

Thanks! For this particular model, it’s fine to leave it closed with an external monitor. Certain models you need to leave the chassis open, just like the zephyrus G15

Only problem is you can't get it, they are sold out, the 4700H + 2060, witch is a bumer... Also no full keyboard, so if you have to crutch the numbers it gets handy.

Guys, I need help with the battery. I bought this laptop two weeks ago and the battery kept on changing its estimated battery hour remaining. Sometimes at 90% it estimates at around 4 hour left but sometimes 1 hour and 30mins left. And then when it reaches 80% it return back to 3 hour. Should I return it?

Would you recommend this for student programmers? I am computer science freshman.
It is great for computer science. 6 cores, 12 threads. Good for running VMs. The cooling is great, i never experience throttling like I did with the Macbook i used to own. The keyboard is the best i have ever used on a laptop. I recommend buying an extra 8GB stick of RAM for $30.
One thing to note, the battery life isn't great. Bring your charging cable with you if you have classes all day.

Could you compare laptops for music production ?
Any laptop with at least 6 cores/16gb ram is good for music production, it's not as CPU intensive as rendering
@@bronztech sure but I heard some laptop can have audio latency issues (latency mon measures). Plus optimisation between daw/cpu model can vary

You can add one easily, but I believe it's 2x4GB ram right now, so in order to get the best performance the two sticks need to be the same speed (mhz) and size. Swapping is better than swapping none, I guess

1:59 Oh bub you're so subjective on this one. The part that sticks out makes the screen closer to you, this is what I like the most. Far away screens like Asus zephyrus are a turn off for me.

ELUKTRONICS FTW!!! JK :) One big reason was because the Legion was heavier and couldn't fit my laptop backpack! My RP-15 fits easily because it's thinner and lighter
